The more we know. Tuesday night, Ring Of Honor Hall Of Famer and reigning Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe was killed in a car crash in his home state of Delaware. The crash rocked the wrestling world and now all that can be done is grieve and hope that everyone else involved pulls through. Now we know a little bit more about what happened and it is not good. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: NXT Superstar Amari Miller Reveals She Attempted To End Her Life Last Week The Delaware State Police have issued a statement on the incident, including several new details. Briscoe’s death was caused by a car crash when a truck went into the wrong land and hit Briscoe’s truck head on. The other driver, Lillyanne Ternahan, 27, was killed as well. Briscoe was not wearing a seat belt while Ternahan was. Briscoe’s daughters were in the truck with him and were wearing seat belts. There is no word on any possible alcohol involvement in the crash. You can see the full statement below: State Police Investigating Two..
That’s a lot more serious. Wrestlers are larger than life characters but they are very real life people when the camera is turned off. You are going to hear about wrestlers doing run of the mill things, which is not exactly something that draws the most interest. Every now and then though, you hear about something that is a lot more serious, which is the case in another situation. According to the Detroit News, former WWE developmental wrestler Kyle Garrett Rasmussen (known as Conrad Tanner in FCW) was arrested on charges of attempting to strangle a man last month. Rasmussen allegedly attempted to choke the driver of a moving car but the driver was able to stop the car and escape. Rasmussen’s girlfriend fled as well but was struck by another car and killed. As a result, Rasmussen is facing a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Rasmussen wrestled for WWE from 2009-2010, when he was released. Opinion: That’s about as serious as it gets and that’s nev..
Welcome back. There is something special about a wrestler making their return to the ring. You might know that someone is on their way back at some point in the future but the actual moment that they get back is a big deal. Sometimes they take you by surprise and now we have two new returns from the same night, albeit in completely different methods of coming back. Two returns took place this week on NXT. First up, Elektra Lopez made her return, attacking both Indi Hartwell and Sol Ruca after Hartwell defeated Ruca in a match. Lopez has not been seen since the August 23 episode of NXT. Later, Edris Enofe and Malik Blade were leaving the arena and ran into Odyssey Jones driving a truck full of women. Blade and Enofe left with Jones and the women following their loss to Pretty Deadly. Jones has been out of action since January with a knee injury. Opinion: That is the kind of night that you do not get to see very often and it was cool for two returns to take place in a two hour span. Lo..
That’s a serious fall. There have been a lot of major spots throughout the history of wrestling and some of them are rather memorable for a variety of reasons. Sometimes you see something take place that you did not might think possible but it leaves quite the impact. That was the case with one famous spot and now the relatives of the person involved are telling their version of the story. During a new interview with SportsKeeda, Solo Sikoa spoke about his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, falling off the top of Hell in a Cell at Armageddon 2000. Rikishi was shoved off the cell and into the back of a truck by the Undertaker during the way way main event. According to Sikoa, his brothers, the Usos, were consoling their mother, who may have started crying. Sikoa couldn’t believe that Rikishi took such a fall. Rikishi would not miss any significant time due to the crash. Opinion: I remember seeing the crash and being amazed that Rikishi actually agreed to do such a thing. It is a huge ..
Smackdown Date: October 14, 2022 Location: Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, Louisiana Commentators: Wade Barrett, Michael Cole We’re on the road to Crown Jewel but this is going to be the Bray Wyatt Show. After not appearing on Monday Night Raw Wyatt is advertised for this week’s show, meaning we might get an idea of what the new version will be like. Other than that, we find out the new #1 contender to the Intercontinental Title so let’s get to it. We open with Scarlett and Karrion Kross having been in a car wreck outside the arena and barely able to walk. Drew McIntyre runs up and jumps Kross, ramming him into the side of a truck over and over, with the trunk being dented. The door is slammed on Kross and referees break it up, with McIntyre shouting that this is just the beginning. Opening sequence. Kofi Kingston vs. Sami Zayn Before the match, New Day talks about the Usos challenging their Tag Team Title reign. We cut to the back where Jey Uso isn’t happy with Sami Zayn. The p..
Welcome back. There are a lot of wrestlers today and not all of them are in WWE or AEW. It can be interesting to see where those wrestlers wind up, as some of them will either debut or return to one of the bigger promotions. That can make for some very interesting moments, especially if the return is a surprise. That was the case this week as a familiar face came back to WWE. There was a story taking place in the background this week on Monday Night Raw involving a car. During the show, wrestlers were seen looking at a wrecked car in the parking lot. Later, the car was put on a tow truck, with police offers running from the scene of the crash into the arena. At the end of the show, the police arrested a man in the crowd, who was identified as former NXT star Dexter Lumis. This would be Lumis’ first appearance since April when he was released from his WWE contract. Opinion: For the first time in a good while, I’m curious about where a story is going. Lumis was around NXT for a long ti..
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan was recently interviewed by Bleacher Report where she discussed a number of topics. Among them were winning the championship, the turning point in her career, and her future goals, including being in the main event of WrestleMania. Below are some highlights from the interview: On winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship: “That whole day was make or break for me,” she said. “I felt professionally in that moment that if I don’t do this for my fans, I dropped the ball. That’s how I was feeling, so I took it very seriously and felt I had no choice but to win. Heading into the match, I was thinking, ‘OK,’ but as soon as I walked through and heard the crowd, it struck a chord with me for some reason and thought, ‘They want me to win this so bad.’ “It made me emotional. In that moment, I said, ‘I’m doing it. There’s no way I’m leaving this match without that briefcase in my hands.’ It was a very overwhelming feeling where I was trying to compose..
That could have been worse. There are a lot of wrestlers in the world today and a lot of them wrestle on shows of different levels. You are only going to have heard of so many wrestlers out there, but a good many of them might have made an impact wrestling elsewhere at one point or another. One such former WWE star had some bad news recently, but it could have been much worse. Former WWE Universal Champion Adam Scherr, better known as Braun Strowman, revealed that he was involved in a car accident earlier this week. The accident resulted in a boat and truck being badly damaged, though Scherr said that everyone walked away from it safe. It is not clear what caused the accident, which incidentally took place on the corner of a road called McMahon Road. Always count your blessings. Trucks and boats can be replaced. Everyone walked away from this ok. Thankful the lord was watching over us. #Blessed pic.twitter.com/s09EgFbrEv — Adam Scherr (@Adamscherr99) July 21, 2022 Opinion: That cou..
I think he struck a nerve. Talking is one of most important abilities a wrestler can have, if not the very most important. Wrestlers can get in the ring and have a good match, but it takes something special to get fans invested in what is going on. That is where a great promo can come in, which was the case last week. It just might have been a little bit too great for some people. Last week on AEW Dynamite, Maxwell Jacob Friedman gave an interview where he erupted on AEW as well as AEW President Tony Khan. Friedman talked about not being happy with his spot in the company or how he was being treated and at one point was censored. According to PWInsider.com, an edict has been issued at Warner Brothers Discovery ordering that Friedman be removed from all material promoting AEW, with different clips being used in their place. There is no word on how long Friedman could be removed from the footage or when he might appear on AEW TV again. Opinion: I’m not entirely sure what is going on he..
A virtual hell. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton from WWE Hell in a Cell 2020. This match was contested inside of the cell and was for the WWE Championship. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Orton controlled the battlefield with his signature deliberate pace, carefully calculating every move. McIntyre found a way to rally with a series of belly-to-belly throws, including a third that sent Orton crashing into a table. But The Viper’s plotting didn’t relent, and he used bolt cutters to escape the cell and began scaling it moments later, challenging McIntyre to pursue him. That appeared to be Orton’s plan all along, as he retrieved a lead pipe atop the cage, though McIntyre ducked his wild swing to thwart this particular scheme. While climbing down, both men struck each other repeatedly while clinging to the cell. Unable to hold..
When factions collide. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between The Shield and Evolution from WWE Extreme Rules 2014. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Evolution worked over their opposition methodically. “Bootista” chants rained down as The Animal worked over his prey, and Ambrose looked downright punch-drunk after an exchange with Triple H, which ended with a fierce spinebuster by the 13-time World Champion. The Hounds of Justice would not be denied, though. The trio’s Lunatic Fringe turned the tides with a DDT on Triple H, and once Reigns found his way into the contest, he turned into a one-man wrecking crew, taking out Orton, Batista, and Triple H in succession. The Shield looked to have the match locked up when they struck Batista with a Triple Powerbomb, yet savvy veterans Orton and Triple H prevented the pinfall. Reigns subsequently ate a Pedigree and an R..
That’s why they’re gone. The WWE releases struck again this week, as several more wrestlers and employees were let go from the company. This batch focused on NXT, as several coaches and scouts were released. Some of those coaches were active wrestlers until the relaunch of NXT, and now we know why a pair of them were let go from their contracts. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Timothy Thatcher and Danny Burch were let go from WWE because the company did not see any kind of a future for them. WWE has changed NXT to a place for developmental wrestlers they feel can make the main roster one day. Wrestlers such as Burch and Thatcher were seen as talented but not people who would make it on the main roster. There is no word on where either of them will wrestle next. These two have some talent. Check out what the two of them did in NXT: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinio..
Another new career? WWE’s releases have struck again, with several more names being released from the company this week. This time was a bit different though, as several trainers and coaches were let go from NXT. Several of the coaches had been regulars wrestlers before the NXT relaunch late last year, and one of them already has plans for his future. According to Fightful Select, following his release from WWE earlier this week, Samoa Joe is expected to return to the ring, either on the independent circuit or in another major promotion. There is no word on when his no complete clause will end, but four longtime independent promoters are said to be interested in bringing him in. Joe last wrestled on August 22, defeating Karrion Kross to become a three time NXT Champion. Joe was a force in NXT. Check out his time both there and on the main roster: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinio..
I’ve been watching wrestling for over thirty years now and over the course of time, I have seen a lot of people come and go. There are some that have made a bigger impact than others, but when you look back, there are a few names who just stick in your mind more than other people. Sometimes it is for a more positive reason than others, but those people and memories stick out rather hard. This week we are going to look at one of them, for no reason other than something struck me about her. Earlier this week, Dolph Ziggler challenged Damian Priest for the United States Title on Monday Night Raw in a losing effort. I got to thinking about how nutty it was that Ziggler made his main roster debut as part of the Spirit Squad just about sixteen years ago (January 23, 2006 to be exact) and has been around ever since (save for a few hiatuses here and there). Over his career, Ziggler has won just about every title there is to win and has had some pretty big moments. I’m sure you remember him w..
Monday Night Raw Date: December 27, 2021 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s the final show of the year and that means it’s also the go home show for Day One. There are a few big stories this week, including the renewal of Miz and Maryse’s wedding vows, but we also get to find out how the Coronavirus outbreak has impacted the roster. Let’s get to it. Here is RKBro for a chat. Riddle, in a party hat, talks about how the team had a good year but Randy Orton won’t read a Christmas card. Orton wants to beat Otis right now to make sure he has a good new year, but Riddle wants to look forward to the future. Next year could see them patent Brogurt! Last week Riddle was thinking about the future and thought he turned into a viper but Orton doesn’t want to hear about it. Instead he asks to see a clip from last week, which has Riddle wondering what Orton means by “production truck”. Anyway, Otis might be non-RKOable, so ..
Get the trucks ready. The Coronavirus had a huge impact on the wrestling world and a lot of those changes are still being felt to this day. While things are not completely fixed and there are a lot of areas that need to be improved, you can see that we are getting better. That is the case again with one of the bigger promotions as it has some good news for itself and its fans. Impact Wrestling has announced that they are returning to the road for regular television tapings starting in 2022. This will include their regular Impact Plus specials and pay per views as well as Impact tapings. This marks the first time that the company has regularly toured in several years, following extended stints in both Nashville, Tennessee and Las Vegas, Nevada. I think that warrants a thank you. One of the coolest things to see in wrestling is a star giving something back to the fans. You don’t get to see it very often, but it is certainly something that takes place, even if that might be behind the scenes. Now it has happened again, but in this case it is something rather personal due to being inspired by a personal story. The Rock has posted a new video to his Instagram showing him giving his own truck to a fan. Rock’s original plan had been to give the fan the same version of the Porsche Taycan that he drives in his new movie Red Notice. When Porsche said no, Rock decided to give him his own truck as a gift. The video includes the fan’s reaction, as well as Rock meeting a group of fans at a showing of Red Notice. This is pretty awesome. It’s another skill. WWE has been shaking things up as of late and NXT has felt the changes more than anyone else. The show has gone from something close to the third brand of WWE television all the way back to developmental, which has made for quite the change of pace. There are several new wrestlers on the roster and it seems that WWE is giving some of them a bit of an unusual bonus. While talking with Fightful Select, NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose revealed that WWE has been teaching NXT wrestlers about the production aspect of the television show. This includes bringing them into the production truck and explaining various concepts. In addition, the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown production teams have been teaching the NXT production team. Previous NXT wrestlers, such as Bayley, were also taught the production side of the show. There is talent in NXT. Check out some of the better things going on there recently: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vide..
The viper strikes again. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship from Hell in a Cell 2020.
