The show is built around its namesake matches, which combine to have sixty wrestlers entering a pair of battle royals. That is the kind of thing that is going to need a lot of effort as the matches can need several wrestlers to be brought in to fill out the lineups. That was the case again this year. The show opened with the Men’s Royal Rumble match, which saw Gunther enter at #1 and set a new longevity record for the match. Gunther lasted 1:11:25, breaking Rey Mysterio’s record of 62:12 set in 2006. Commentary did make it clear that Gunther’s record was in traditional Royal Rumble matches, as Daniel Bryan lasted 74:12 in the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018, though that match had 50 entrants compared to the traditional 30. Wrestlers have a weird relationship with acting, as they are seen as actors in the ring, but are rarely able to land traditional acting roles as anything beyond a wrestler or some kind of a fighter. You do see someone break through occasionally though and that can make for some interesting moments. Now another WWE star seems to have landed a big acting role, but it isn’t something we can see. According to Fightful Select, WWE’s Becky Lynch filmed a post credits scene for the Marvel movie “The Eternals”, but her scene did not make it into the finished film. There is no word on what the scene would have been, but it was described as being “too depressing”. McMahon leaving the company is the kind of game changer that you do not see take place in wrestling and now there is a new regime in charge. She might even be happy about it. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross defeated Dana Brooke to become the new 24/7 Champion. Later in the night, Cross was seen walking backstage where she threw the title in the trash without saying anything. While not confirmed, this could suggest that the title is being dropped, possibly as a call back to the WWF Women’s Title being dropped in the trash on Monday Nitro in 1995. That would be a first. WWE has been around for a rather long time now and they have some traditional shows and events that take place every year. Some of these have long term implications for the top storylines in the company and it can mean a lot for someone to be part of one of them. That was the case earlier this year, and it might still be the case for a large part of next year. Back on July 2, Austin Theory won the men’s Money in the Bank contract, guaranteeing him a World Title shot at any point he chose over the next calendar year. Theory has still yet to cash in, though he has teased doing so on several occasions. According to WrestleVotes via GiveMeSport, WWE is considering having Theory wait one year to cash in. They have a type. There are all kinds of wrestlers under the WWE banner and most of them come from a few select backgrounds. You can probably figure out some of the most common, with amateur wrestling, football and mixed martial arts being very prominent. That leaves off some of the most obvious, but WWE does still have their eyes pointed elsewhere. Shawn Michaels was recently interviewed by My San Antonio and revealed that NXT was still looking for both independent and Japanese wrestlers. Michaels said that nothing is off the table when it comes to finding new talent, which will continue to be the case in the future. This comes after reports that NXT was no longer looking for independent wrestlers but rather focusing on athletes that could be turned into wrestlers. It’s a different way to go. There are a lot of ways to present wrestling and some of them are not quite as traditional as others. While the most common way is to have wrestlers either in a ring or with a microphone, times have changed a bit and there are other places to see what they can do. That is the case again with a new game show, and now we have a bit of a sneak peak. Earlier this year, G4 announced that they were collaborating with WWE on a new monthly game show called The Arena. The series will be hosted by WWE’s Xavier Woods and G4’s Gina Darling and will feature WWE stars, professional athletes, games, streamers and more competing in challenges and pranks. Welcome back. There are several wrestling promotions in the world but not many of them have been around for very long. Several of these promotions do not last very long for one reason or another so it means a lot to see one of them being around for a very long time. That is the case with Ring Of Honor, and now we know when the promotion will be coming back for more. AEW held its traditional media scrum after this weekend’s Forbidden Door event with AEW President and Ring Of Honor Honor Tony Khan answering questions. During the event, Khan revealed that Ring Of Honor would be holding Death Before Dishonor on July 23 from the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. This will be the first Ring Of Honor event since Supercard of Honor on April 1. Opinion: They had to do this at some point, as Ring Of Honor has only been existing as a plot device on AEW TV for months now.
