REVIEW: Elimination Chamber 2014: No He Can’t Just Yet

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Elimination Chamber 2014 Date: February 23, 2014 Location: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota Commentators: John Bradshaw Layfield, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole Tonight is the final big stop on the Road to Wrestlemania with six men possibly leaving with the WWE Championship. It’s actually a wide open field tonight with at least three people having a realistic shot at walking out with the belt. However there might be an even more interesting match on the card with the Wyatt Family vs. the Shield in a ..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Postpones Major Upcoming International Event

Unpack your bags? WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world. As a result, the company presents events around the world, with some of them taking place in areas where major wrestling shows rarely take place. This can make for some interesting moments, but now one of the shows is not going to happen as previously planned. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One More Ride? Update On The Shield Reuniting In WWE Anytime Soon A few weeks ago, a report surfaced that WWE was planning to run a live event in India on January 18, featuring stars from the SmackDown brand. However, according to a new report from WrestleVotes, the event will not be taking place and has been postponed. There is no word on why the event, which was never officially announced by WWE, will not be taking place as scheduled. I’m told the proposed WWE Live Event in India scheduled for 1/18 has been postponed for unspecified reasons. — WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) December 22, 2022 WWE has been to India b..

No More: AEW Tag Team Splits, New Stable Formed In Its Wake

It took long enough. Tag team wrestling has an interesting dynamic, as you can have two very talented wrestlers who have enough in common to make a great team. At the same time, there are often teams who are more different than similar, which can lead to issues. Those issues can even go so far as to having the team split up and that is what we saw this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One More Ride? Update On The Shield Reuniting In WWE Anytime Soon This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a face to face confrontation between Swerve In Our Glory members Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland, as moderated by hip hop mogul Rick Rock. The two had been having issues in recent weeks and hoped to work them out. During the showdown, Strickland came to the ring but told Lee to watch his back, with Parker Boudreaux attacking Lee from behind. An unnamed man (a former baseball player named Granden Goetzman, according to JJ Williams of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter) joined in to help attack Lee, w..

One More Ride? Update On The Shield Reuniting In WWE Anytime Soon

Don’t get your hopes up. There have been a lot of great stables throughout WWE’s history, with some of the better ones being around in recent years. It makes sense for a stable to be successful in modern wrestling, as there is a heck of a lot more television time for the teams to dominate. WWE name dropped a very successful stable recently, but a reunion does not seem likely. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Nikki Cross Teases Return Of Former Stable Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins and United States Champion Theory had a face to face confrontation. During their talk, Theory said that Rollins was the third most successful member of the Shield. This comes as WWE recently finished celebrating the ten year anniversary of the Shield’s WWE debut at Survivor Series 2012. This led to some speculation about a possible Shield reunion in WWE, but this is not likely at the time. Earlier this year, Jon Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose of the Shield) signed a new deal with AEW, which..

LOOK: Seth Rollins Switches Back To Classic Appearance On Monday Night Raw

Call it a flashback? There are several aspects that come together to make a wrestler into a star. While a good many of them come together when someone is in the ring or on the microphone, there are some aspects that you can see just by looking at a wrestler. The “look” is one of the most important qualities a wrestler can have and now one of the bigger stars in WWE has changed their look. This week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins defeated Austin Theory in a singles match. Rollins wrestled the match while sporting a different appearance than usual, as he had dyed part of his hair blond rather than the usual all black look. The changed look is more similar to Rollins’ original look when he was part of the Shield. There is no word on why Rollins made the change or if this is a permanent switch. It’s pretty notable. Check out an image from last week and this week: IMG Credit: WWE IMG Credit: WWE Opinion: I’m not sure what is going on with Rollins here but it wouldn’t surprise me if th..

LOOK: Seth Rollins’ Unlikely Shield Replacements

The new wave? Stables are a way for a wrestling promotion to put stars together in a group and see what they can do. It has long since been a way to make things less complicated and some of the more iconic moments in wrestling have something to do with a stable. This is still the case in modern times and we got a strange call back to one of them over the weekend at a WWE live event. Over the weekend, WWE ran a live event in Bismarck, North Dakota. The show’s main event saw the Miz, Seth Rollins and Austin Theory team up against Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Lashley. During the match, Lashley was knocked down, leaving Rollins to lead his partners in the Shield’s fist pose. Lashley and company would come back to win the match, which served as the show’s main event. But now it’s turned into a six team tag match between with @fightbobby teaming with @HEELZiggler and Kevin Owens against @_Theory1, @WWERollins and @mikethemiz #wwebismarck pic.twitter.com/QJyFuT4Ttg — The Willster (..

Seth Rollins Discusses Hearing Cody Rhodes’ Music At WrestleMania 38, more

WWE superstar Seth Rollins was recently interviewed by Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy, where he discussed several topics. Among them were facing Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania 38, when we can expect a reunion of The Shield and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On hearing Cody Rhodes’ music at Wrestlemania 38: “I just didn’t think it was ever going to happen, or maybe I didn’t think it was ever going to happen so soon. I suppose I always thought maybe Cody would come back, but I didn’t think it was going to be as quickly as it happened. “So to hear his music ‘Kingdom’ over the speakers and that entrance specifically, the presentation of the American Nightmare in a WWE setting, it was pretty surreal to be standing in the middle of the ring.” On Rhodes tearing his pectoral muscle: “It was pretty gnarly,” Rollins said. “I don’t think I expected it to look like that. I’ve had some torn muscles in my day, and I know that the blood seeps down, gravity just takes over, but..

WATCH: Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins From Money in the Bank 2016

Believe In The Shield. WWE has released a new video on YouTube, in which they show the full match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins from the 2016 Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Dean Ambrose, who won the “Money in the Bank” briefcase earlier in the evening, would strike while the iron was hot, and cash in his contract to become the new champion. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The Architect fought like a man looking to reclaim both his title and his pride, facing Reigns for the first time without The Authority or J&J Security ready to intervene on his behalf. Some early ring rust aside, Rollins quickly showed he still possessed the skills that took him to the top. But going toe-to-toe with “The Guy” proved to be a poor strategy when Reigns used his strength advantage to overpower his foe with clotheslines, headbutts and a tilt-a-whirl slam to the reeling Rollins. The Architect remained defiant, if not compet..

WATCH: The Shield vs. Evolution From WWE Extreme Rules 2014

When factions collide. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between The Shield and Evolution from WWE Extreme Rules 2014. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Evolution worked over their opposition methodically. “Bootista” chants rained down as The Animal worked over his prey, and Ambrose looked downright punch-drunk after an exchange with Triple H, which ended with a fierce spinebuster by the 13-time World Champion. The Hounds of Justice would not be denied, though. The trio’s Lunatic Fringe turned the tides with a DDT on Triple H, and once Reigns found his way into the contest, he turned into a one-man wrecking crew, taking out Orton, Batista, and Triple H in succession. The Shield looked to have the match locked up when they struck Batista with a Triple Powerbomb, yet savvy veterans Orton and Triple H prevented the pinfall. Reigns subsequently ate a Pedigree and an R..

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 2022: Oh Yeah, I Went There!

Royal Rumble 2022 Date: January 29, 2022 Location: The Dome At America’s Center, St. Louis, Missouri Attendance: 44,390 Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Michael Cole, Pat McAfee We are officially kicking off the Road to WrestleMania XXXVIII and that means things should be starting big here. First up we have the Royal Rumbles themselves, plus what should be a pair of awesome World Title matches as Brock Lesnar defends against Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins challenges Roman Reigns. Let’s get to it. Note that I was in the stadium for this, sitting in the upper deck with the Titantron on my right. No Kickoff Show matches this year, which was a bit weird. The opening video looks at the start of the Road To Wrestlemania, with a look at just about everything on tonight’s card. Cool, even if it isn’t breaking new ground. Smackdown World Title: Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins Rollins is challenging and comes out to the Shield theme, including in the Shield gear. He eve..

Seth Rollins Makes Rare Direct Reference To AEW Star On WWE SmackDown

Who was that again? As is the case in almost any other job, wrestlers often move from one employer to another. In this case, wrestlers jump from promotion to promotion, which can make for some interesting moves. Some of these are a lot more interesting than others, but it can be fascinating to see where someone winds up. It can be an even bigger deal to hear them referenced again, and that was the case this week. This week’s edition of WWE SmackDown featured a confrontation between Seth Rollins and the Bloodline. During the segment, Rollins and Roman Reigns argued back and forth, with Rollins referencing the pair’s time in the Shield. Rollins said that the Usos were holding Reigns up, “just like Mox and I held you up during the Shield.” This was a rare reference to Dean Ambrose under his AEW name of Jon Moxley. In a related note, Moxley returned to the ring for the first time since October this week on AEW Rampage. Opinion: That is one of those situations that doesn’t mean very much ..

VIDEO: Roman Reigns And Seth Rollins Face Off After Monday Night Raw

That’s a big deal. There are certain groups of wrestlers who are going to get some extra notice no matter what they do. At the same time, there are some things that they can do which extend even beyond their normal actions. You don’t get to see these happen very often, but one of them took place after the cameras stopped rolling following this week’s Monday Night Raw. According to PWInsider.com, the dark match after this week’s Monday Night Raw featured a six man tag with Drew McIntyre and the New Day defeating the Bloodline. During the Bloodline’s entrance, Roman Reigns and his former Shield teammate Seth Rollins, who had wrestled in the show’s main event, had a staredown on the stage and exchanged a few words. Rollins walked to the back with nothing physical taking place. Rollins and Reigns have not teamed together outside of a live event since the Shield’s Final Chapter on April 21, 2019. It was a cool moment. Checkout what happened, plus the Shield in action: [This post contains..

KB’s Review: The NXT Dilemma

I have loved NXT for a very long time now, and that is not likely to change at any time in the future. For years now, it has felt like my wrestling show, as it has been the show I have looked forward to seeing more than any other in a given week. That is still true from time to time, but it is clear that the show is going to be shaken up in a pretty big way in the near future. The more I think about that, the more of a good idea it seems, though only if certain issues are addressed. NXT became special to me on January 2, 2013. In that particular show’s main event, NXT Champion Seth Rollins was defending the title against Corey Graves (dang that makes it seem even longer) when the rest of the newly formed Shield ran in for the DQ. A huge beatdown followed and General Manager Dusty Rhodes sent out the rest of the locker room to deal with the Shield. That didn’t work either, and all hope seemed to be lost. As I was watching at home, I said out loud “in a good promotion, this is where th..

Roman Reigns Reveals Two Things He Wanted Before WWE Return

He had conditions. Roman Reigns has been on another level since his return to WWE television last year. After missing several months due to Coronavirus concerns, Reigns won the Universal Title at Payback in August 2020 and has not looked back since. Reigns is the top star in WWE and has been for a long time now, but there was something that made him come back to the company. Reigns was recently a guest on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast where he discussed the process that brought him back to WWE. Before he returned to WWE television, Reigns told WWE that he wanted to work with both Michael Hayes and Paul Heyman. Reigns cited the two of them as critical in his development in WWE, with Hayes having helped Reigns in his time with the Shield and even before he came to the company. While Reigns felt that he could do what he is doing now without Heyman, he still wanted Heyman there. It has worked out pretty well. Check out Reigns and Heyman’s time together in WWE: [This post contains..

Huge SmackDown Feud Being Planned For The Fall

That would be next. Roman Reigns is coming up on a year as Universal Champion and it has been a heck of a run getting there. Reigns has dominated SmackDown like no other and it is almost hard to fathom someone actually giving him a real run for his money. At some point he needs a fresh challenger and that is what we might be seeing, even if it is someone familiar to him. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Reigns may move into a feud with Seth Rollins starting in September. This would come after Summerslam in August, where Rollins is rumored to be facing Edge, who will challenge Reigns at Money in the Bank in July. Rollins teased the feud this week on SmackDown, suggesting that he be the one to answer Reigns’ State Of The Universal Title Address. Reigns and Rollins have a long history together, as they both began their careers on the main roster as part of the Shield. The team would stay together for over a year and a half before splitting up in 2014. Both would go on to have succ..

Main Event Results – March 14, 2019

Main Event Date: March 14, 2019 Location: PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Commentators: Renee Young, Percy Watson, Byron Saxton It’s recap week during one of the most important times of the year. I wouldn’t mind if they just dropped the original stuff during this season as it’s just taking up time when they could talk about more important things. Then again Main Event has never made the most sense in the first place. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. EC3 vs. Tyler Breeze EC3 elbows him in the face to start and drops the EC3 elbow as Watson talks about how awesome he is. Another EC3 elbow is countered by a superkick for two but a hard clothesline gets the same. A powerbomb is countered into an enziguri but it’s a TKO to drop Breeze again. Not that it matters as Breeze grabs a hurricanrana for the pin at 4:09. Result: Tyler Breeze b. EC3 – Hurricanrana (4:09) From Raw. Here’s the Shield for their big farewell speech. Roman Reigns talks about how he’s learned you’re not ..

WWE Has Plans To Continue The Shield Without Dean Ambrose

So that’s how they’re keeping it going. This past Sunday at Fastlane, the main event was centered around the Shield having one last ride together. With Dean Ambrose not re-signing with WWE after next month, it was time to wrap things up for the team once and for all. However, with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins sticking around, something could still be done. According to Ringsidenews.com, local advertisements for the upcoming European tour, which is scheduled to take place after Ambrose is set to leave the company, feature Rollins and Reigns teaming up with Braun Strowman as an honorary member of the Shield. The team will face off with Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin in six man tags. This isn’t the first time such a thing has happened, as Triple H served as an honorary member in 2017. He really did it. Check out Triple H as part of the team: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This makes as much sense as anything else as you can’t blame WWE for trying t..

Roman Reigns Discusses His Reaction to Dean Ambrose & The Usos Possibly Leaving WWE

Following the WrestleMania 36 press conference yesterday, former WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns had the chance to speak with TalkSPORT about The Usos and Dean Ambrose potentially leaving WWE. As we know, Reigns recently returned to the squared circle after his battle with leukemia. His in-ring return will officially take place this Sunday as he teams with Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose in a reformation of The Shield against Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin. [This post contains video, click to play] To begin with, Reigns noted that he actually found out about Ambrose leaving through an article online.
