REVIEW: Starrcade 1998: It All Comes Crashing Down

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Starrcade 1998 Date: December 27, 1998 Location: MCI Center, Washington, D.C. Attendance: 16,066 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan It’s the biggest show of the year and I don’t know how many people know about it. I don’t remember the same show feeling so different just a year later. Last year Starrcade felt like an event rather than just a wrestling show. This year it feels like it could be a Clash of the Champions TV special instead of the biggest show of the year. I have a very ..

REVIEW: Halloween Havoc 1998: Time’s Up

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Halloween Havoc 1998 Date: October 25, 1998 Location: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada Attendance: 10,663 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan We’re FINALLY here after six weeks of buildup. It’s a double main event with Warrior and Hogan in the battle for Hollywood’s sanity and ego as well as Diamond Dallas Page challenging Goldberg for the World Title. However the show is remembered far more for something that had nothing to do with the wrestling. Let’s get to it. The open..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – March 17, 1997: The NWO Does St. Patrick’s Day

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Nitro #79 Date: March 17, 1997 Location: Savannah Civic Center, Savannah, Georgia Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Larry Zbyszko, Bobby Heenan It’s the night after Uncensored and the big story is that Sting has declared his loyalty for WCW by attacking the NWO to close the show last night. At the same time though it’s not all good for the purple and gold (WCW for you young people out there) as the NWO won the main event last night, basically giving them unlimited power in the company. There are ele..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – February 22, 1999: Are They Serious?

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Monday Nitro #180 Date: February 22, 1999 Location: Arco Arena, Sacramento, California Attendance: 13,921 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We’re FINALLY past SuperBrawl and things couldn’t be much lower for WCW if they handed all the wrestlers shovels and told them to dig their own graves. Hogan is still World Champion, Windham and Hennig are Tag Team Champions, Scott Hall is US Champion, Scott Steiner is TV Champion, and Rey Mysterio doesn’t have a mask. We’ve got three weeks ..

REVIEW: Thunder – March 21, 2001: When Wrestling Left TBA

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Thunder Date: March 21, 2001 Location: O’Connell Center, Gainesville, Florida Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay We’ve arrived at the final shows. We’ll start off the final episode of the corporate mandate that was Thunder, which has somehow gotten even less important over the years. The big story coming out of Monday is Ric Flair’s face being pressed onto the back of a donkey and the upcoming Night of Champions on Monday. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Monday and most of the major stories. I’m st..

REVIEW: Starrcade 1997: The Night WCW Fell

Starrcade 1997 Date: December 28, 1997 Location: MCI Center, Washington, D.C. Attendance: 17,500 Commentators: Eric Bischoff, Dusty Rhodes, Mike Tenay Tonight is WCW’s night. After a year and a half of being dominated by the NWO, tonight is the night that WCW stands up and says this is our company and you’re not taking us over. WCW has its warrior in Sting and there is no way that Hogan can stop him. Hogan has been running scared of Sting for months and tonight he’s out of places to hide. This is WCW’s night. Let’..

Great American Bash 1998 Date: June 14, 1998 Location: Baltimore Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Attendance: 12,810 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan We’re at the big summer PPV which originally gave us everything between the first War Games and the worst major PPV of all time, so it’s hard to say what to expect here. There’s a double main event with Sting vs. Giant for control of both tag titles and an actual tag match of Hart/Hogan vs. Piper/Savage with Piper and Savage agreeing to fight each oth..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – March 8, 1999: An All Time Mess

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Monday Nitro #182 Date: March 8, 1999 Location: Centrum, Worcester, Massachusetts Attendance: 10,856 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schaivone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We had to get to this one eventually. I’ve heard warnings about this show for a long time now and even though I’ve seen it more than once before, the idea that this was allowed to make air still baffles me. It’s the go home Nitro before Uncensored, meaning this is the big show to get people to buy the pay per view. Let’s get to it. Video on the cag..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro Extra: It’s Free!

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Monday Nitro Extra Date: November 24, 1998 Location: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Larry Zbyszko, Bobby Heenan This is a special one hour episode on a Tuesday. I guess three hours a week isn’t enough for all of the AWESOME action that you get on a Nitro so we get a bonus tonight. Hot dog indeed. Anyway there aren’t any announced matches and Tony just casually mentioned this so I can’t imagine it’s going to be much to see. Let’s get to it. Nitro Girls. Scott Norton..

REVIEW: Superbrawl 2000: When It Isn’t Needed Anymore

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. SuperBrawl 2000 Date: February 20, 2000 Location: Cow Palace, San Francisco, California Attendance: 8,569 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Mike Tenay Well the TV shows have been some of the least interesting things I’ve ever had to sit through, so maybe the pay per view will be the complete opposite and be entertaining. I mean, stranger things have happened right? The main events tonight are Sid Vicious defending the World Title against Jeff Jarrett and Scott Hall in a three way, plus Hogan vs. Luger and Fu..

REVIEW: Souled Out 2000: Everything Changed

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Souled Out 2000 Date: January 16, 2000 Location: Firstar Center, Cincinnati, Ohio Attendance: 14,132 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan And then everything changed. The big matches for this show were scheduled to be Chris Benoit vs. Jeff Jarrett in a 2/3 falls match for the US Title and Bret Hart defending his WCW World Title against Goldberg. Then Goldberg, Hart and Jarrett all got hurt so we’re going to get Sid Vicious vs. Benoit for the World Title, which is being announced the night of the sh..

REVIEW: Bash At The Beach 1998: Summertime Not So Blues

Bash at the Beach 1998 Date: July 12, 1998 Location: Cox Arena, San Diego, California Attendance: 10,095 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan Tonight is all about the celebrities as the main event is DDP/Karl Malone vs. Hollywood Hogan/Dennis Rodman. We’ve also got football player Kevin Greene vs. the Giant in what was supposed to be a tag match. Their original partners are in a world title match as new champion Goldberg defends against Curt Hennig. The midcard matches should be solid, meaning this has potential to be something good. Let’s get to it. The opening video focuses on the three major matches tonight with some shots of the beach cut in as well. The set is the usual intricate beach setting with sand, lifeguard towers and beach balls. The announcers wearing hula shirts is a nice touch as well. We get an intro from the announcers, bragging about all the media attention the show has been getting. Nothing wrong with that. Gene, in a white tuxedo, hypes up t..

Fall Brawl 1999 Date: September 12, 1998 Location: Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Winston-Salem, North Carolina Attendance: 7,491 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan Well we had to get here eventually, even though I don’t think people wanted to. The main event here is Sting vs. Hogan for the title and Goldberg vs. Page because those are fresh matches. We also get to see the Revolution rising up the card in a big No DQ tag match and Benoit defending the US Title against on..
