AEW Rampage Results – January 6, 2023

Rampage Date: January 6, 2023 Location: Portland Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Portland, Oregon Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho We are in for the first of two hours of AEW TV this week. That could mean quite a few things, but we do have a TNT Title match as new champion Darby Allin defends against Matt Taven. It’s a little weird to have a title match on the show right before a title made of nothing but title matches, but it should be good. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Top Flight vs. Jon Moxley/Bryan Danielson The Club gets jumped from behind to start and it’s Darius dropkicking Moxley for a quick one. A standing moonsault gives Dante two but it’s off to Danielson to fire off the kicks in the corner. Moxley comes back in to hammer away before it’s a four way standoff. The double fights go to the floor, with Moxley and Danielson hitting running kicks against the barricade. Back in and Danielson puts Dante in a surfboard, allowing him to rip at the..

AEW TNT Champion Wardlow: “I Have Girls Chained Up In My Bedroom”

Well that’s….unique. Wrestlers are best known for what they do in the ring but there is a completely different side to what they do. While the in-ring work is important, the ability to talk people into watching the show might be the most important thing of all. As a result, wrestlers are going to do a lot of talking a lot of the time and now a prominent star said something rather eye catching. AEW TNT Champion Wardlow appeared on Busted Open Radio this week and discussed how wrestlers are similar to horror movie and television series characters, in that they have characters, gimmicks and a theme song. In particular, Wardlow spoke about the Joe Goldberg character from the “You” TV series, saying he did not know why you would chain people up in your basement. Wardlow then said “I have girls chained up in my bedroom, but no one in my basement”. Wardlow successfully defended the TNT Title against Matt Taven this week on AEW Rampage. Opinion: Well that’s certainly a statement that is goin..

AEW Signs Three New Stars To Full Time Deals

They have a new home. Signing new stars is one of the most important things a promotion has to do. At some point, a company needs to have someone new brought in to freshen things up a bit. It means a lot to bring in someone new that the fans can connect with and respond to, which is what has taken place again. This time though, three new names are officially onboard. Earlier this month, the Kingdom (Mike Bennett, Matt Taven, Maria Kanellis-Bennett) made their AEW debut and challenged FTR. According to Fightful Select, the team has officially signed with AEW but were not under deals when they appeared on Rampage. According to PWInsider.com, the three were officially signed to AEW deals rather than appearing for Ring Of Honor, where they all worked before. Opinion: These are the kinds of signing that make all the sense in the world, as AEW is signing stars who are known around the industry but also fresh in AEW. The team can do some good things for the company and I’m curious to see wh..

Two Title Changes Take Place During The Same Show

There go two of them. Titles are the most important things in wrestling as they identify the biggest stars in any given promotion. Any fan understands the idea of a wrestler holding a shiny gold belt and holding it can mean a lot. It can also mean quite a bit when a title changes hands, which was the case this week, albeit in two rather different fashions entirely. Two titles changed hands this week on Impact Wrestling. First, Frankie Kazarian vacated the X-Division Title he won at Bound For Glory via Option C, earning himself a World Title shot against Josh Alexander. Later in the show, Honor No More’s Matt Taven and Mike Bennett lost the Tag Team Titles to Heath and Rhino. This comes after Taven and Bennett made their AEW debuts last week on Rampage. Opinion: That is quite the eventful night and you do not see something like this happen very often. Kazarian had announced that he was going to be vacating the title last week so there was only so much surprise. It was similarly true o..

Three New Stars Make AEW Debuts On Rampage (Contains Mild Spoilers)

They’re up next. AEW has built up a rather diverse and talented roster in its time. The company features a mixture of young, up and coming stars, current names and veterans, who have come together to create a mixture of matches and wrestlers. New names still need to be added though and that was the case again this week as three more names made their AEW debuts. The main event of this week’s AEW Rampage saw FTR and Shawn Spears defeat the Embassy in a six man tag match. Following the match, the Kingdom, comprised of Mike Bennett and Matt Taven with Maria Kanellis, interrupted in their AEW debuts. The Kingdom and the Embassy then joined forces to attack FTR until Samoa Joe and Wardlow made the save. This comes less than a week after the Kingdom reportedly finished up with Impact Wrestling. Opinion: You can’t say that Tony Khan isn’t committed to the Ring Of Honor stuff as the brand seems to have landed even more stars. I’m not sure what that is going to mean but at least they have some..

WWE Interested In Former World Champion, Ring Of Honor Stars Backstage (Contains Mild SPOILERS)

They caught some attention. There are a lot of talented wrestling stars in the world today and several of them don’t work for WWE or AEW. A lot of those stars are free agents who can be signed to any company. It can be a game changer to bring them in and that might be what WWE is getting ready to do, as they have interest in at least one freshly free agent star. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is interested in bringing in former Ring Of Honor World Champion Matt Taven, who has reportedly finished up with Impact Wrestling. In addition, former Impact Wrestling and Ring Of Honor stars Vincent and Dutch were reportedly backstage this week at Monday Night Raw. There is nothing to suggest that WWE has signed any of them or officially offered them a deal. Opinion: That is quite the turn of events and I could go for seeing it happen. Taven is someone who seems to have all of the talent he could hope for and having him in WWE would be great to see. Dutch and Vincent could be great ..

Four Wrestling Stars Are Once Again Free Agents (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Fare thee well. One of the most interesting things in wrestling is when a wrestler leaves a promotion. It opens up several doors as fans are left wondering who is going where and what they might do when they get to their next destination. That is one of the most exciting things in wrestling and now there will be some new free agents on the market all at once. According to PWInsider.com, four Impact Wrestling stars are done with the company as of this weekend’s television tapings. Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis and Vincent have all finished up with the company as their contracts have expired. The four had all been part of the Honor No More stable. There is no word on where any of the four will be going next. Opinion: That is one of those changes that can make for some very interesting next steps. There is some star power in this group and now the question becomes where they go next. With so may places to go, we get to find out who is interested in some talented stars. Severa..

There Might Be Some New Free Agent Wrestlers On The Market Soon

That could make things interesting. One of the most interesting things to see in wrestling is a free agent hitting the market. There is so much talent out there and it can be fascinating to see where someone might wind up going. It is something that you get to see every now and then, but now we might be seeing a good number of wrestlers hitting the markets unless something changes. Earlier this year, several former Ring Of Honor wrestlers debuted in Impact Wrestling under the name Honor No More and have stayed with the company since. According to Fightful Select, as of April 1, multiple members of the stable have not been signed to Impact Wrestling. There is no word on which members have been signed or not. The team includes Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis, Matt Taven, Vincent, Kenny King and PCO. Eddie Edwards is part of the team but was signed to Impact Wrestling before the rest of the group debuted. Opinion: I’m not sure who is going to wind up sticking with Impact Wrestling and who ..

REVIEW: Ring Of Honor Best In The World 2019: This Was The Best?

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Best In The World 2019 Date: June 29, 2019 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman, Colt Cabana It’s another pay per view and in this case, the show isn’t looking half bad. They’ve managed to build things up better than usual with television and I’ll take that over what they tend to put together. The main event is Matt Taven defending the World Title against Jeff Cobb because for some reason we deserve Taven as champion around here. Let’s get to it. Kickoff S..

Impact Wrestling Results – March 17, 2022

Impact Wrestling Date: March 17, 2022 Location: Paristown Hall, Louisville, Kentucky Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan We’re still on the road to Rebellion and this week features the in-ring return of Josh Alexander against Matt Taven. Alexander is back in the company after a few weeks off due to visa issues and now he is probably going to need a small bit of build on the way to his World Title shot against Moose. Let’s get to it. In Memory of Scott Hall. The opening recap looks at Josh Alexander’s return and his match with Matt Taven being set up. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Chris Bey/Jay White White and Shelley start things off with White still not giving him a handshake. Sabin comes in and a double dropkick puts White on the floor rather quickly. It’s off to Bey, who gets headlocked takeovered by Sabin, with Shelley tagging himself in for a kick to the ribs. The Guns start taking turns on Bey’s arm, setting up a couple of kicks to the chest for two. White’s save attem..

More On Ring Of Honor’s Impact Wrestling Invasion

This could be the start of something big. The wrestling world has been changing in a lot of different ways over the last several months, with one of the biggest changes being the end of the original Ring of Honor. The promotion let all of its contracted workers go, meaning they are now available to work elsewhere. A large group of them might have found a new home, and now we might know something more about them. This weekend, Impact Wrestling’s Hard To Kill pay per view included an invasion by a group of former Ring of Honor wrestlers. Matt Taven, Vincent, PCO, Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis all appeared, with all but Kanellis attacking Eddie Edwards, Rhino, Heath, Rich Swann and Willie Mack. According to PWInsider.com, neither Taven, Vincent, PCO nor Bennett are currently under contract to Ring of Honor. Kanellis’ contract status is unclear but she will be part of the group in Impact Wrestling. It was a big moment. Check out who is coming to Impact Wrestling: [This post contains v..

Ring Of Honor Invades Impact Wrestling Hard To Kill

Nice to meet you? There have been a lot of changes in the wrestling world over the last year and some of those changes have been rather important to say the least. One of the biggest has been the end of the original era for Ring of Honor, as the company is going into hiatus. Those wrestlers are going to have to go somewhere though, and now we know where some of them seem to have landed. This weekend, Impact Wrestling presented their annual Hard To Kill event. Following the Hardcore War between Violent By Design and Eddie Edwards/Rich Swann/Willie Mack/Heath/Rhino, a group of Ring of Honor wrestlers appeared and attacked Edwards and company. This included PCO, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett and Vincent, accompanied by Maria Kanellis. There is no word on if more Ring of Honor wrestlers will be joining them in the future, though the show did feature a match for the Ring of Honor World Title, with Jonathan Gresham retaining against Chris Sabin. We sense there is a little invasion going on here..

Two Soon To Be Free Agents Backstage At AEW Dynamite

Maybe they’re next? The wrestling world really has changed in the last few years and those changes continued this year with what seems to be the demise of at least the current version of Ring of Honor. You don’t see that kind of change very often in wrestling, and in this case it opened up the question of what would happen to the Ring of Honor roster. Now we might have a better idea. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ring of Honor’s Matt Taven and Jonathan Gresham were both backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite taping. Taven and Gresham’s Ring of Honor contracts both expire later this year, with their last appearances scheduled for Final Battle on December 11. There is no word on if either or both have come to any agreement with AEW. You might need to get to know them. Check out both Gresham and Taven in Ring of Honor: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains ..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – June 30, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: June 30, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We are rapidly approaching Best In The World and a lot of the card has either already been made or is pretty obvious. That is not a bad thing either, but we also have to set up the rest of the Survival of the Fittest tournament. In other words, you can feel things getting interesting around here again and that is a very nice thing. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay welcomes us to the show and runs down the card, which will be headlined by the Survival of the Fittest finals. Here’s how all six of the finalists qualified. But first, this. Matt Taven vs. Dutch Dutch has Vita Von Starr and Bateman with him. Taven goes straight at the monster to start and gets shoved down without much effort. Some heavy forearms to the chest have Taven in trouble but Dutch’s powerslam is broken up. A dropkick has no effect on Dutch, who runs Taven over to send us..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – May 26, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: May 26, 2021 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Last week’s show felt a bit more unique with a nice mixture of stuff so hopefully they can keep it up here. I’m never sure what to expect from this show, but they have been surprising me enough lately. The match quality has been better as well so maybe they can keep that up too. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay is back, thanking everyone for her support and promising to have another match. We get the card run down as well and we’re ready to go. Matt Taven has been attacked and his ankle is hurt again. The Tag Team Title match tonight might be a little bit in trouble. Fred Yehi vs. Rocky Romero Pure Rules and the World Famous CB is on commentary. During the entrances, Yehi wonders if he is pure or anti-pure, while Rocky is ready for Yehi. They go slow to start with some grappling on their feet, followed by a bit more on the mat. Yehi takes hi..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – April 22, 2020

Ring of Honor Date: April 22, 2020 It’s Matt Taven’s week and that could mean a few things. Taven is someone who has done some good things in his time, but as long as we don’t hear him talk, everything should be fine. He has some solid matches on his resume and we might be seeing some of those here. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Taven talks about rehabbing from a knee injury in 2016 and knowing he had some goals. He knew he would have to beat Adam Cole because they started at the same time but Cole was already the World Champion. Then he beat Dalton Castle, allowing him to bring in the REAL World Title. The match that gives him the most pride is going an hour with Jay Lethal, even though he didn’t win the World Title. Then he won the World Title in Madison Square Garden, which was all he ever wanted. From War of the Worlds 2019: Grand Rapids. Ring of Honor World Title: Matt Taven vs. Mark Haskins Taven is defending and tries to hit him with the belt before the bell. That earn..

Back in and a double suplex gets two on Marty as we take a b..

Ring of Honor Date: December 19, 2018 Location: Stage AE, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana, Caprice Coleman So Final Battle has come and gone but around here….actually you know what I’m going to say here so I’m not even going to bother. It’s going to be a stand alone match tonight, but there’s a chance that we’re going to be seeing something Christmas related. That kind of show has been hit or miss in wrestling history but hopefully it works well here. Let’s get to it. Tonight, Jay Lethal and Matt Taven will be captains in the Christmas Surprise ten man tag. They’ll both be opening presents to find out who their partners will be. Lethal is happy but Taven only wants the rest of the Kingdom on his team because he hates surprises. Opening sequence. He’s the only man who can call himself the..

Matt Taven Explains The "Kingdom Conspiracy"

Matt Taven wonders why he has not been given more chances at the ROH World Championship. In an interview with Sporting News, Matt Taven explained how the "Kingdom Conspiracy" is based in reality. The members of the Kingdom have been complaining about how they are treated by Ring of Honor and Taven said he has not been given the opportunities he has earned. “I have a serious question of 'why?' I've been in Ring of Honor for five years. I've won every title that they have to offer besides one and I've only had two opportunities at that title. Both matches had interference in them but nothing was ever done about it. I was never given an honest chance, an honest shake with a rematch and even opportunity. I feel like I deserve it. The only thing I'm asking Ring of Honor is what I deserve,” said Taven. Also during the interview, Taven discussed how he and the rest of The Kingdom created a spectacle outside of Supercard of Honor XII to express their discont..
