Monday Night Raw Results – August 8, 2022

Monday Night Raw Date: August 8, 2022 Location: Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, Cleveland, Ohio Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton This could be a very interesting show, as we are coming off last week’s pretty awesome episode, but now the question is how they follow it up. They certainly don’t need to have some big moment or debut/return, but keep up the energy and put on a good show and they should be fine. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Bayley/Iyo Shirai/Dakota Kai coming together at Summerslam and running some roughshod last week. We get the brackets for the Women’s Tag Team Title tournament: Tamina/Dana Brooke Iyo Sky/Dakota Kai Alexa Bliss/Asuka Nikki Ash/Doudrop Raquel Rodriguez/Aliyah Xia Li/Shotzi Nikkita Lyons/Zoey Stark Natalya/Sonya Deville Here are Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai for a chat. Bayley: “DING DONG!” Bayley can’t believe that she’s getting this kind of a reception when the fans need her. They are here to save this women’s division..

WWE Reveals Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament Field, NXT Stars Included

You have to start somewhere. There are a lot of titles in WWE and holding a championship still means quite a bit. Winning a title can be a game changer for a wrestler and often serves as the start of someone’s move up to the next level. There are a few ways to become a champion and now we have a better idea of how two people will be winning a title at once. WWE has released the brackets for the tournament to crown new Women’s Tag Team Champions with the first round beginning this week on Monday Night Raw: Tamina/Dana Brooke Iyo Sky/Dakota Kai Alexa Bliss/Asuka Nikki Ash/Doudrop Raquel Rodriguez/Aliyah Xia Li/Shotzi Nikkita Lyons/Zoey Stark Natalya/Sonya Deville The tournament is being held after Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out on WWE in May, vacating the titles in the process. It is not clear when the finals will be taking place or if Lyons and Stark have been called up from NXT permanently. Opinion: That is a pretty nice field for the tournament and I’m curious to see how well..

They’ll Make It Work: Injury To WWE Star Forces Change To SmackDown Plans

Try again later. Injuries are one of the few things that can impact any wrestler at any time and hurt them all in the same way. You never know when someone is going to get hurt and be taken out of the ring and that is never a good thing to see. Such an injury can change how a story or match is going and that seems to be the case again, as a change had to be made this week. This week’s edition of SmackDown featured a Money in the Bank qualifying match between Tamina and Shotzi, with the latter advancing. The original plan for the match called for Aliyah to face Shotzi but the change was made before the show. Pat McAfee explained the change on commentary, announcing that Aliyah was injured, though he did not say how long she would be out of action. Opinion: This isn’t something that makes the most difference, but it is a change that WWE had to make. Aliyah being out of action further thins an already weak women’s division and her being gone long term could cause issues for others. I do..

Here Is How WWE Internally Ranks Some Of Its Wrestlers

They have rankings. The WWE roster has changed quite a bit over the last few months and it has left things looking more than a little different. That is not a bad thing and the changes are often needed to keep things fresh. At the same time though, it can be a bit difficult to figure out how the new roster is ranked. Now we know at least about at least a specific division. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has updated the internal roster of the Monday Night Raw women’s division. This includes the rankings of the wrestlers and whether they are considered to be either a babyface or a heel. This comes after the returns of Asuka and Alexa Bliss, plus Lacey Evans being moved from Monday Night Raw from SmackDown. Here is the list: Babyfaces Bianca Belair Alexa Bliss Liv Morgan Asuka Dana Brooke Heels Becky Lynch Rhea Ripley Lacey Evans Carmella Zelina Vega Doudrop Nikki Ash Tamina Opinion: There are a few surprises on this list, with Evans being third on the villains’ side and Asuka being ..

Yes And Yes: Two WWE Couples Are Getting Married

It’s a storytelling device. There are a lot of different ways to present an angle in professional wrestling. With so many things having been done over the years, it is rare to see something brand new being done, but there is the chance of seeing something done with a new twist. That was the case again this week, as a classic story was combined with itself. Two marriage proposals took place this week on Monday Night Raw. 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke and Reggie were backstage when Reggie said he wanted to take things to a new level. This led him to propose, with Brooke accepting. Tamina then came in to attack Brooke, with Reggie making the save. Akira Tozawa then came in to propose to Tamina, who accepted as well. There is no word on when the weddings will take place. Opinion: Marriages have been a thing in wrestling for a long time now but I don’t remember the potential of a double wedding. I’m not sure how well the idea is going to go, but I’ll take it over them running around and doing..

19 Women Announced For Royal Rumble, Including Impact Wrestling Knockout

There is most of the field. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble and that means it is time to start getting the fields put together. There are sixty slots to be filled and only a handful of names have already been announced. That can make for some interesting announcements and we got a ton of them all in a row, including more than one Hall of Famer, and a big surprise. This week on SmackDown, Charlotte announced nineteen entrants for the women’s Royal Rumble match: Rhea Ripley Nikki Ash Nikki Bella Brie Bella Shotzi Natalya Michelle McCool Dana Brooke Carmella Queen Zelina Mickie James Tamina Kelly Kelly Aliyah Summer Rae Naomi Shayna Baszler Lita Charlotte The Bella Twins and Lita are all retired and have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. James is currently the reigning Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion, which was acknowledged by commentary. Charlotte will be the first reigning champion to enter the Women’s Royal Rumble. There is no word on if any other entr..

How WWE Has Changed Monday Night Raw Plans After A Surprise Release

There’s your replacement. WWE has had all kinds of changes taking place over the last few months, mainly in the form of wrestlers being released from the company. That can make for some major shifts in storylines, as the angles still have to continue. It seems that in one case, one wrestler was literally swapped out for another, but now we know how the original plans would have gone. This week on Monday Night Raw, Bianca Belair defeated Tamina. Following the match, Doudrop attacked Belair, who had referenced Doudrop before the match. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Doudrop is taking the place of Nia Jax, who was released earlier this year, in the storyline. This is also the explanation for Doudrop suddenly turning heel earlier this month. It was a busy night. Check out what happened, plus what else Doudrop can do: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: The more I think about ..

Monday Night Raw Might Be Getting Two New NXT Callups

That’s kind of the point. NXT is one of the most unique wrestling shows in the world, as it is not only its own show but also the official developmental territory for WWE. There are only so many things that a wrestler can do there without being ready to be called up to the main roster. That can make for some interesting moments, as a promotion can make for a rather special moment. Now we might be seeing some new promotions. Two NXT names seem to have been called up to the main roster. Referee Aja Smith has appeared on Monday Night Raw in recent weeks, including refereeing this week’s match between Bianca Belair and Tamina. In addition, backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell has posted a photo to Twitter, showing her backstage at Monday Night Raw. There is no word on if these callups are permanent or just tryouts. Must be Monday #WWERaw pic.twitter.com/qPhyqzuWDP — McKenzie Mitchell (@mckenzienmitch) November 16, 2021 A main roster debut can be quite the moment. Check out some of t..

WATCH: WWE Teases Two Heel Turns At Live Event

Call it a tryout. There is more wrestling content available today than there ever has been before and that can create some problems for the wrestlers. There comes a point where the fans have seen almost everything a wrestler is going to do and that means it is time to shake things up a bit. That seems to be the case for a pair of WWE wrestlers, who tried something new over the weekend. Sunday night, WWE presented a live event in El Paso, Texas which included a tag team match between Shotzi/Nox vs. Natalya/Tamina, with Shotzi and Nox wrestling as heels. The team, which had been split up in the WWE Draft, wrestled together as babyfaces during their time on SmackDown. There is no word on if either of the two will be teaming together going forward or if either of them will be turning heel. This could be an interesting way to go. Check out the experiment, plus what the two of them can do together and on their own: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, clic..

More WWE Draft Picks From Raw Talk, Plus Remaining Free Agents

We aren’t done yet. The WWE Draft has come and gone for the year and it was certainly an eventful pair of nights. There were dozens of moves made with wrestlers jumping from show to show. At the same time though, there were some wrestlers who stayed on the shows they have been on for months now. It turns out that Monday Night Raw and SmackDown was not everything though, as we have some more picks. This week’s edition of Raw Talk included several more picks in the 2021 Draft. Both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown received additional picks, which were announced in a group rather than show by show. There were teams split up while one team did stay together as they moved. None of these picks had been made before the show aired. Here are the Raw Talk picks in no particular order: Monday Night Raw Dana Brooke Robert Roode Dolph Ziggler Jaxson Ryker Veer Liv Morgan Nox Tamina Mia Yim Shelton Benjamin Cedric Alexander Miz Smackdown Shotzi Natalya Jinder Mahal Shanky These names are in additi..

Title Change Takes Place On Monday Night Raw

That’s one of the important parts. Titles are one of the most important parts of a wrestling show as they are about as easy of a concept as you can have for any fan. The best wrestlers around have a shiny belt and other wrestlers want to take them away. That is something you are going to see in wrestling on a pretty regular basis and it was the case again this week. During this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, the team of Rhea Ripley and Nikki Ash won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles from Natalya and Tamina. This marks the first title reign for Ripley and the third for Ash, whose previous two title reigns both came with Alexa Bliss. Prior to the match, Ripley and Ash dedicated the match to children suffering from pancreatic cancer. History has been made. Check out the title change and how the new champs work together: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This was a title change ..

Here’s Why A Monday Night Raw Match Did Not End As Planned

What might have been. There are all kinds of wrestling shows every single week and some of the more important ones take place on television. That can make for some interesting moments, though the interest might not always be positive. Sometimes bad things are going to happen and there is no way around it, which was the case this week on Monday Night Raw. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikka Ash defeated Tamina, after which Tamina’s music played and she was announced as the winner. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the issue came from the fact that Tamina was supposed to win the match. Tamina kicked out at two but the referee did not see it, putting the blame on the referee. Following the match, the referee was said to be apologetic, though there is no word on any punishment for him. That is the kind of thing you don’t see very often. Check out the match plus some other referee issues: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This ..

Update On Natalya’s Injury Status After Monday Night Raw

Hopefully it isn’t too bad. An injury is one of the worst things to see in wrestling as it can take anyone down in the blink of an eye. What makes matters worse is it can take some time to find out how bad things are, which can span quite the range. Unfortunately that was the case this week and now we have to wait on the details of just how bad things are. We do know a bit more though. This week on Monday Night Raw, Natalya suffered some sort of a leg injury, which caused the Natalya/Tamina vs. Eva Marie/Doudrop match to be ended early. Natalya was helped to the back after the match ended. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Natalya suffered an ankle injury rather than a knee injury. There is still no word on how bad the injury is or if Natalya will miss any ring time. This is a messy situation. Check out the match with the injury and some healthy Natalya: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to p..

Natalya Potentially Suffers Injury On Raw

That didn’t look good. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Natalya appeared to have suffered a leg injury during tonight’s episode of Raw, during a match with Eva Marie and Doudrop. She and her partner, Tamina, were in the match, when Natalya appeared to suffer a right leg injury on either a roll-over or a foot stomp from Doudrop. Natalya tagged out and immediately had trouble putting weight on her right leg. The referee then apparently called an audible as Tamina took over, and after a distraction by Lilly on the big screen, hit a superkick on Eva for the pin to win. After the match, a ringside medic immediately helped Natalya to the back. Tamina joined the medic in helping Natalya, who was still unable to put weight on her right leg. You can see a clip of the potential injury below: @RajGiri_303 It appears here is where she injured her ankle or leg. @WrestlingInc pic.twitter.com/jOrMKv38il — Ethan Cramer (@EthanCramer) July 27, 2021 Here’s another clip from the match: [This post con..

WATCH: Team Split Leads To Surprise Title Change On Monday Night Raw

Not the intended result. With so many wrestlers and characters on WWE television, it can make sense to put them together and see what they can do as a combined force. Some of these instances work a lot better than others and that has been the case as of late on Monday Night Raw. That being said, one such group seems to be no more, but the split resulted in a surprise ending. This week on Monday Night Raw, Reginald accidentally cost Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler a tag team match against Natalya and Tamina. Reginald’s distraction allowed Tamina to superkick Baszler and score the pin. After the match was over, Jax headbutted Reginald and left with Baszler, seemingly ending Reginald’s association with the team. Reginald’s night was not done yet though. After Jax and Baszler left, 24/7 Champion Akira Tozawa ran to the ring, with the regular group of challengers chasing after him. Reginald attacked Tozawa and gave him a running flipping seated senton to win the title for the first time. Follo..

Final Entrant Confirmed For WWE Money In The Bank Ladder Match

Come on in. We are less than a week away from WWE’s annual Money In The Bank show and that means that most of the card has already been set. WWE does have a tendency to take their time getting everything finalized though and that was the case again this year. There was one final spot in one of the show’s namesake ladder matches but now that has been filled as well. WWE has announced that Tamina will be the eighth and final entrant in the Women’s Money In The Bank ladder match. This will be Tamina’s third time participating in the match, following an appearance in both of the 2017 editions. Tamina joins Zelina Vega, Natalya, Liv Morgan, Asuka, Naomi, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Ash in the match. There were no qualifying matches for the SmackDown entrants. The field for the #MITB Ladder Match is now set! WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion @TaminaSnuka will take part in the action this Sunday! ? https://t.co/2c4ZQANWpm pic.twitter.com/xsaV4BmUri — WWE (@WWE) July 15, 2021 Tamina could be a forc..

Update On Two New SmackDown Stars

Update your programs. WWE is in a state of change at the moment as there are all kinds of switches and updates taking place. This has involved a lot of the wrestlers being moved around in a bunch of different directions, some of which are a little more well received than others. Every now and then you will see WWE make a move that might leave you a bit confused, and that might be the case again. According to PWInsider.com, Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart are both permanent members of the SmackDown roster. However, Blackheart will officially be known as just Shotzi. Nox will be using her full name, but there is a chance that it could be shortened in the future. The two made their surprise debuts last week on NXT, defeating Natalya and Tamina in a non-title match. This could be a big one. Check out what SmackDown is getting: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I hope that Nox keeps..

Two NXT Superstars Appear Debut On SmackDown

Make room on the roster. WWE is in the middle of a huge roster shakeup at the moment as there have been all kinds of changes taking place in recent months. In addition to the dozens of wrestlers being released from the company, there are also stories of names coming up from NXT to take some main roster spots. Now two of those seem to have become a reality. This week on SmackDown, NXT’s Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart made a surprise appearance, defending WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina in a non-title match. Both women have recently wrestled dark matches prior to WWE television tapings, though there is no word on if these are permanent callups or just one off appearances. Both have wrestled on SmackDown before, appearing in a battle royal on the August 14, 2020 SmackDown. These two could do something. Check out their time in NXT both on their own and together: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains..
