REVIEW: WrestleMania 7: Stars And Stripes And More Stars

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestlemania VII Date: March 24, 1991 Location: Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 16,158 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan It’s the Gulf War show, as Hulk Hogan is fighting to get the WWF Title back from former American hero turned Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter. If that sounds like one of the worst ideas for a Wrestlemania main event ever, you have quite the memory for these things. Other than that we have Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior in a match that actually belongs i..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Firefly Funhouse May Have Teased Former Champion’s Return

That’s a way back in. There have been almost countless wrestlers on the WWE roster over the years and some of them have been able to make a bigger impact than others. At some point, those wrestlers are going to have to leave for one reason or another. Occasionally they make a return though, and that might be the case with a former champion returning in a different role. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: Ronda Rousey Blasts Women’s Division, Calls For More Title Defenses This week on SmackDown, a new edition of the Firefly Funhouse aired, featuring a series of clips presented like a local television station. There was a voiceover announcing what was taking place, and according to Wrestlingnews.co, the voiceover sounded like Eric Young. This comes after rumors that Young was to be returning to WWE, though this is only speculation at this point, with nothing being confirmed. Young, 43, wrestled in WWE from 2016-2020. The voiceover guy sounds like Eric Young. pic.twitter.com/lvpS4bf71e — Wr..

Elimination Chamber 2023 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

It’s the last big stop on the Road To Wrestlemania and for a five match card, four of them are big and the fifth includes some Hall of Famers. This show is pretty much stacked with either big matches or the awesome sounding main event. While the show is called Elimination Chamber, the whole thing is about Roman Reigns defending the World Title against hometown boy Sami Zayn. Let’s get to it. Edge/Beth Phoenix vs. Finn Balor/Rhea Ripley Somehow this is the least important match on the show as Edge’s war against the Judgment Day continues. In this case, he is bringing in the wife to go after Ripley, who is on her way to WrestleMania. This should be a good, long tag match as all four can do well in a spot like this one. That being said, it doesn’t help that this feels like it is only there to set up something at Wrestlemania. I’ll take Judgment Day here, as Ripley pinning Phoenix would make her look like a bigger deal on what could be her path to the main event of the first night of Wre..

Monday Night Raw Results – February 13, 2023

Monday Night Raw Date: February 13, 2023 Location: Barclays Center, New York City, New York Commentators: Corey Graves, Kevin Patrick It is the go home show for the Elimination Chamber and that means we need to finalize everything for the red half of the event. We should be in for some hard pushes, including the contract signing between Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar. There is also the Lita return last week to deal with so let’s get to it. Here is Becky Lynch, with Adam Pearce, for a chat. Becky is happy to be here and says she even dressed spiffy for us. She thanks Lita for her help last week but realizes that she needs a path to Wrestlemania. That sounds like something to do with a title to her, so she wants in the Elimination Chamber. Cue Bayley, who says she should be in the Chamber, because Lita CHEATED last week. That match should be stricken from the record book, which sends Bayley and Becky into an argument over Wrestlemania credentials. Bayley says Becky lost in her Wrestle..

Talk To Me: WWE Introduces New Broadcaster With Independent Wrestling Background

He’s in. The broadcast team is one of the most important parts of any wrestling company. The people calling the show are tasked with guiding the fans on the path that the company wants them to take, which can be rather complicated at times. WWE has quite the cast of commentators but every now and then they shake it up a bit. That is the situation again as a new voice is around. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s Back: Former Champion Makes Surprise Return On SmackDown According to Fightful Select, WWE has hired Blake Chadwick to become part of its commentary team. Chadwick will join the NXT LVL Up broadcast team, where he will be paired with Byron Saxton under the name Blake Howard. Chadwick has done commentary on the wrestling independent scene, including with WrestleCade, Camp Leapfrog, VCW and the West Coast Wrestling Connection. He sounds different. Ouch: NXT Star Suffers Detached Retina During Attack Earlier This Week

That’s a nasty one. There are all kinds of injuries in the wrestling world and you never want to see any of them happen to someone at any time. They can keep someone out of action for any span of time and unfortunately there is no way to guarantee that they don’t happen. Now another one has happened to a prominent star, but thankfully it might sound worse than it really is. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: From The Man: Undertaker Reveals What He Said To Bray Wyatt At Raw XXX This week on NXT, Ilja Dragunov made a surprise return after missing several weeks of action. Dragunov chased off JD McDonagh, who put him on the shelf in the first place. McDonagh has since posted a photo of his face to Twitter, revealing that he suffered a detached retina in his right eye, which he blames on Dragunov. As a result, he will be missing live events and estimates a 10-14 day recovery time, though he is waiting on a treatment plan. .@WWENXT fans attending Live Events in Tampa/Citrus Springs this weekend – Un..

You’re Up: Royal Rumble Described As “All Hands On Deck”, What That Means

It’s that big of a deal. WWE runs several annual events, but some of them are among their most important of the year. These shows are known among fans as some of the most prominent names on the wrestling calendar and it means a lot to appear on one of them. Another one is coming up and this year it sounds like it is going to be even bigger than usual. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Two Times: Injured WWE Star Forced To Undergo Second Surgery During Recovery On January 28, WWE will be presenting the 2023 Royal Rumble. According to PWInsider.com, the show is being described as “all hands on deck”. This means all wrestlers and talents will be brought in, even if they are not working at the Royal Rumble. They could be taking part in media appearances or working on something for Peacock. This could include NIL talents who have not made televised appearances as of yet. The Royal Rumble has some surprising moments. Check out some shocks from the show: [This post contains video, click to play] [..

Farewell? Wrestling Legend: “I’m Getting Too Old For This S***”

You have to hang it up sometime. Wrestling is a unique sport in that the wrestlers can have trouble getting out of the industry. Since they are always able to wrestle one more time, it can be easy to stick around that much longer. For other people involved in the industry, getting away is a bit easier, and now a wrestling legend sounds like he is considering wrapping up his career. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s A Hot One: How A Former WWE Star (Literally) Set Backstage On Fire During a recent edition of his What Happened When podcast, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone talked about how Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the days he travels for AEW, “kind of wear” him out. Schiavone, 65 years old, said that he feels he is “getting too old for this s***” and said that his future is in podcasting and maybe playing video games. At no point did Schiavone say that he was retiring or considering retiring. Schiavone debuted with AEW at its launch and has provided commentary since. Schiavone is a legend. ..

A Tribute To Insult? Grayson Waller Takes Surprising Shot At Shawn Michaels After NXT

I guess he isn’t a fan. WWE has been undergoing a variety of changes in recent months and there is nothing to suggest that those changes are going to be ending anytime soon. While several of these changes have been taking place on the main roster, there have also been multiple changes in NXT. One of them does not seem to have set well with a top NXT star though and he let fans know about it this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Not Interested: Fans Sound Off On Speculation Of Eva Marie WWE Return (And They Aren’t Happy) The ending segment of this week’s NXT saw Grayson Waller call out NXT Champion Bron Breakker for a fight. Breakker appeared and speared Waller, only to knock himself unconscious as Waller revealed that he was wearing a bullet proof vest. Following the show, Waller tweeted a photo of the ending, plus a photo of Bret Hart doing the same thing to Goldberg in 1999. Waller said “That was for all the flops backstage at NXT that kiss Shawn Michaels ass every single day”. Michael..

Not Interested: Fans Sound Off On Speculation Of Eva Marie WWE Return (And They Aren’t Happy)

That sounds negative. There have been a lot of WWE returns in recent months and there is nothing to suggest that they are slowing down. There are some stars who have garnered quite the positive reaction, but not everyone has been that well received. Now another name is being rumored for a return and the response on social media has been quite negative to say the least. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Homecoming: More Details On Surprise WWE Return Earlier this week, a rumor started to circulate that Eva Marie may be on her way back to WWE. While this is still seen as purely speculative and based off of Marie liking a tweet about WWE returns, social media has reacted anyway. Several reactions have been negative, with fans voicing their opinions about they do not want Marie back in the company. Here are some of the reactions: pic.twitter.com/4lSp0J8NRg — Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) December 20, 2022 pic.twitter.com/dGxMCw85Zs — NickMan ????? Clay-More: Update On Drew McIntyre’s Injury Status

That doesn’t sound so bad. There are all kinds of injuries a wrestler can deal with and once one takes place, the question instantly becomes how bad things are. An injury can keep someone on the shelf for the short term or a lot longer and that can create some issues. Now we know something else about an injury to a top WWE star and things could be a bit better than they seemed. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMOR: WWE Interested In Signing Second Generation Star This week on Monday Night Raw, an announcement was made that Drew McIntyre was medically disqualified from his upcoming Tag Team Title match with Sheamus against the Usos this week on SmackDown. According to Fightful Select, McIntyre’s injury is said to be minor and he is expected to return to the ring soon. There is still no word on what is wrong with him. McIntyre will be replaced by Butch in the title match. McIntyre is pretty good when he is healthy. Check out what he can do when he is in the ring: [This post contain..

I’d Watch: The Rock Makes Surprise Choice For His Dream Opponent

That could have been great. One thing that almost every wrestling fan has done over the years is talk about what kind of dream matches they would love to see. Fans can come up with some of the most out there concepts for a match that still sound fun to hear. Occasionally you will see wrestlers doing the same thing and now one of the all time greats has revealed his dream match. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Two Monday Night Raw Stars Make Surprise NXT Appearances In a new post on his Instagram page, Dwayne Johnson is shown wearing Macho Man Randy Savage sunglasses. The post features Johnson saying that Savage was always his dream match as it would have been an honor to share the ring with him. The two were never in the same promotion at the same time, as Savage was in WCW in 1996 when Johnson signed with WWE. Johnson has been rumored to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood in April 2023. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dwayne Johnson (@therock) They both h..

WATCH: Ronda Rousey On Feeling Disrespected By Fellow SmackDown Wrestler

She doesn’t sound pleased. Wrestling is a lot of things, but at the end of the day, it is not a secret that the match results are planned in advance. The wrestlers are real athletes and are putting in the effort whenever they are in the ring. There are a handful of stars who can legitimately take down just about anyone they care to, and now one of them does not seem happy with a fellow star. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Could Happen: WWE Ready To Name WrestleMania 43 Venue If Major Condition Is Met Last week on SmackDown, Raquel Rodriguez interrupted the Shayna Baszler vs. Shotzi match, resulting in Baszler getting distracted and rolled up for the pin. This came after Baszler’s friend, Ronda Rousey, interfered in the match multiple times. Rousey and Baszler were interviewed later in the night on SmackDown LowDown, with Rousey saying that Rodriguez disrespected herself and Baszler. Rousey went on to say that for interfering in their business, she would have to pay. Rousey is currently sc..

Injury Update On R-Truth (And It Might Be Very Bad)

That doesn’t sound good. Injuries are one of the few universal problems for wrestlers and there is almost no way around them. No matter how much experience or training a wrestler may have, there is always the chance that someone is going to get hurt. That seems to be the case again with a veteran, who could have suffered quite a significant injury earlier this week. This week on NXT, R-Truth faced Grayson Waller in a match that stopped when R-Truth suffered a leg injury when attempting a running dive over the top rope. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, R-Truth may have torn his quadricep, but that has yet to be confirmed. There is no word on how long R-Truth, 50 years old, would be out of action if that is the case. Opinion: Anything involving something possibly being torn is never good to see and this could be quite the serious injury. R-Truth is one of the longest standing stars in WWE and it would be a shame to see him missing what would probably be several months wi..

WATCH: Rhea Ripley Messes With A Fan At WWE Live Event

That’s a different one. Fans are among the most important parts of any wrestling show as you need someone watching to make something matter. They can be at home or in the arena, but the latter gets a more special situation. Sometimes that is not as good as it might sound though, and that was the case for a fan at a recent live event, thanks to a certain WWE star. During a recent Sunday Night Stunner live event in Mexico City, Rhea Ripley was knocked to the floor and landed near the barricade. Before getting up, Ripley reached into the crowd and untied a fan’s shoelaces. Other fans can be heard laughing at what Ripley did as she rolled away from the barricade. Ripley was in Damian Priest’s corner this week on Monday Night Raw. This was pretty great. Check out what Ripley did to a fan: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: What you have here is a prime example of what makes live events special. It is something that you probably couldn’t get away with during a televised s..

Backstage News On AEW’s Trick To Save Money

That sounds like a plan. There are a lot of things that go down throughout a wrestling show, including things that do not take place in front of the audience. That is the kind of thing that you see take place on any given show, but at the same time, it does not mean that you are seeing something take place as it seems. Now we know a bit more about how a major promotion makes this work. Fightful Select has some details on AEW’s backstage production setup. AEW reportedly films several of their backstage segments in advance rather than live in an effort to reduce travel costs. If a wrestler is only going to be at an event for a short backstage segment, it will be filmed in advance rather than bringing someone in for a full day. For example, Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland’s backstage segment in Cincinnati was filmed in Toronto the previous week to avoid bringing in Lee and Strickland for a brief moment of filming. Opinion: This is one of those totally logical concepts and I have no idea..

Former WWE Star: “I’m Responsible For AEW”

Call it an assist? The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world in a huge way. Rather than being dominated by WWE, the industry now has another style in AEW, which presents wrestling in a bit of a different way. That way was developed by a few different names coming together, but now another wrestling star is laying claim to coming up with the story that AEW is known for using. During an interview with Not Sam Wrestling, former WWE and AEW star Matt Cardona (better known as Zack Ryder) said that his previous efforts led to the rise of AEW and Being The Elite. Cardona said that his Z! True Long Island Story show caused the creation of Being The Elite, which led to the formation of AEW. Z! True Long Island Story debuted in February 2011 and ended in January 2013 after 100 episodes. Cardona wrestled a pair of matches with AEW in 2020. Opinion: It might sound like a big exaggeration but at the end of the day, Cardona did something that led to a major development in wrestling. ..

WATCH: Stone Cold Steve Austin Animated Series Reportedly Held Up By WWE

That sounds awesome. There are all kinds of ways to present wrestling stars and some of them have nothing to do with wrestling. Over the years, wrestlers have gotten into different forms of media as a way to present themselves to fans outside of their main industry. A legend is trying to do it again, but there might be a few problems preventing it from happening. Comedian Dan Soder appeared on Barstool’s KFC Radio and talked about having developed an animated series along with fellow comedian Dan St. Germain and Steve Austin. The series was sold to Peacock, but WWE and Peacock are now holding up the series in some unspecified way. The three developed the series during the Coronavirus pandemic but it has sat on the shelf for seventeen months due to the issues. There is no word on if the series will ever air, though Soder did say Austin himself was onboard. He can explain it better. Check out Soder’s comments: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure what is go..
