It Grows: Two Big Matches Added To AEW Revolution

They needed to do that. We are less than two weeks away from AEW Revolution and that is going to be a big night. AEW only runs four regular pay per view events in any given year so they have to make the most they can out of every show. The company knows how to stack their cards with a bunch of big matches and they moved closer to doing that this week, with more matches being added. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Did It: Jon Moxley Is First To Reach Major AEW Milestone Two more matches were added to the Revolution card during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. First, Ricky Starks issued an open contract for a match at Revolution and talked Chris Jericho into facing him in a rematch. Jericho also agreed that the Jericho Appreciation Society will be banned from ringside. Second, AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter agreed to defend her title in a three way match against Saraya and Ruby Soho, both of whom have wanted title shots. There is no word on how many more matches will be added to the s..

AEW Dynamite Results – January 18, 2023

Dynamite Date: January 18, 2023 Location: Save Mart Center, Fresno, California Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We’re about six weeks away from Revolution and that means Bryan Danielson is still on the road to getting his Iron Man match with MJF for the World Title. Other than that, Orange Cassidy is defending the All-Atlantic Title against Jay Lethal and Ricky Starks continues his issues with the Jericho Appreciation Society. Let’s get to it. In Memory Of Jay Briscoe. All-Atlantic Title: Jay Lethal vs. Orange Cassidy Cassidy is defending and there are no seconds, though here are Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt through the crowd to take fans’ seats. They start fast with Cassidy grabbing a small package and backslide for two each before Lethal knocks him outside. Cue Danhausen, who is now an usher, demanding to see Jarrett and company’s tickets. Because reasons, they hand them over, and Danhausen waves over the Best Friends (with concessions) to sit behind them..

AEW Dynamite Review – December 21, 2022

Dynamite Date: December 21, 2022 Location: Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas Commentators: Taz, Excalibur, Ricky Starks It’s the Holiday Bash and that means we are about to wrap up the year in a big way. That should make for a good week, but you never know what you are going to see around here. Last week saw Bryan Danielson seemingly line himself up as the next challenger to MJF so let’s get to it. We open with a recap of MJF cheating to retain the World Title over Ricky Starks. Here is Ricky Starks to get things going. He makes one thing clear: he was ready for MJF last week and it took some cheating to beat him, but Starks is going to be even more ready next time. Now bring him whoever he needs to beat to get another title shot, but here is the Jericho Appreciation Society to interrupt. Jericho praises Starks and says he’ll be a World Champion one day. It just won’t be anytime soon, but maybe Starks just needs some extra guidance from Jericho. Starks says Jericho looks like a ..

MJF Says That His Character is Who He is in Real Life

AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF was recently interviewed by TODAY and discussed a number of topics. Among them was the character that he plays on television, being a Jewish athlete, his future in pro wrestling, and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On the character that MJF plays compared to real life: “This is me 100% of the time, 365 days a year. It doesn’t change. You can ask people in my industry — and people have — and then fans are like, ‘Oh, these other people are just keeping up the ruse.’ This is me,” he says. On being a Jewish athlete: “How much of that is deep-rooted in antisemitism and how much of that is deep-rooted in jealousy and wishing that these people were in the position I’m in? I don’t know. But what I do know is it doesn’t make it OK,” he says. “It’s just very funny to me that now all of a sudden the conversations being started because Kanye West decided to speak out on the underbelly of society — antisemitism has always been there, alwa..

Ring Of Honor Final Battle 2022 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

It’s time to wrap up the Ring Of Honor year with its third event, as Final Battle closes us out. As you might expect, this is mainly going to be about AEW stars as Ring Of Honor is less a promotion than a really big and loosely connected angle on AEW TV at the moment. We have a double main event of FTR defending the Tag Team Titles against the Briscoes in a double dog collar match, plus Claudio Castagnoli challenging Chris Jericho for the Ring Of honor World Title. Yeah that should work. Let’s get to it. Zero Hour: Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Shinobi Shadow Squad This is one of the several added matches to flesh out the card, or in this case the card that happens before the card. The Squad is one of those teams who pops up all the time in Ring Of Honor but rarely gets to do anything important. In other words, they are perfect to face a pair of goofs like Menard and Parker in a match with absolutely nothing at stake in a spot like this. In what is probably going to be a trend, I’..

AEW Dynamite Results – October 26, 2022

Dynamite Date: October 26, 2022 Location: Chartway Arena, Norfolk, Virginia Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone We’re well on our way to Full Gear and now it seems that we have a World Title main event. Last week saw MJF announce that he will be cashing in his chip at Full Gear, though the question is who he will be challenging. This week, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley will be defending against Penta El Cero Miedo. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Chris Jericho/Daniel Garcia vs. Wheeler Yuta/Claudio Castagnoli The rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society is here too. Castagnoli takes Jericho down to start before handing it off to Yuta to armbar Garcia. Everything breaks down for a bit and it’s Garcia being sent into the post on the floor. A Hager distraction lets Jericho get in a cheap shot to Castagnoli though and we take a break. Back with Castagnoli fighting out of a chinlock but Jericho knocks Yuta off the apron. Castagnoli knocks Jericho away and brings in Yuta as e..

Dynamite Results – September 28, 2022

Dynamite Date: September 28, 2022 Location: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We continue the road to Full Gear and that means we need to start laying the groundwork. Before we get there though, World Champion Jon Moxley has a title match coming up in about three weeks against Hangman Page. That should make for some good weeks of build so let’s get to it. Here is the Jericho Appreciation Society (all in purple), plus Luigi Primo, who has made some NEW YORK PIZZA for….well no one here because this place is full of losers. Anna Jay says no one gets pizza and it’s all about Jericho. She threatens to choke everyone out but seems to get a bit shaken by the WE WANT PIZZA chants. Jericho gets the mic and says he is now the most watched and viewed Ring Of Honor World Champion of all time. Tonight he is ready to take out Bandido, who no one saw as Ring Of Honor Champion because no one knows what Ring Of Honor is. Jericho even has a pres..

Switchover: AEW Star Turns Heel In Surprising Moment On Dynamite

There’s your switch. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestler and some of them involve switching things up a bit. At some point a wrestler needs to be freshened up a bit, which can also shake up a story going forward. Occasionally it can involved a wrestler turning from either good to evil or vice versa. That was the case again this week in a major spot, and it seems to be setting up something down the road. The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite was a barbed wire match between Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho, with the Jericho Appreciation Society suspended in a shark cage above the ring. Ruby Soho was in charge of the cage but Tay Conti attacked her during the match. Anna Jay ran in to save Soho before turning on her and siding with Conti, turning heel in the process. Jay and Conti are former partners and friends who split earlier in the year. Opinion: AEW certainly likes to turn wrestlers to the dark side and that is going to become a problem one day. At some point, the c..

AEW Dynamite Results – July 20, 2022

Dynamite Date: July 20, 2022 Location: Gas South Arena, Duluth, Georgia Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz It’s time for the Shark Week show, because corporate synergy is a thing. That means a barbed wire match between Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho, with the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society in shark cages. That’s quite the way to go but I’m sure we’ll get something else big tonight. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Brodie King vs. Darby Allin Sting is here with Allin. They start fast with Allin knocking him to the floor for a suicide dive. Back in and King gets staggered again but is fine enough to shrug off a high crossbody attempt. King swings him around by the pants and Allin is sent outside, followed by some stomping back inside. We take a break and come back with Allin hitting a suicide flip dive but a charge in the corner is countered into a sleeper. Allin tries to climb the rope but gets caught in the Tree of Woe for his efforts. The Cannonball only hi..

It’s A Different One: Update On Ruby Soho’s Injury Status

That could be worse. Injuries are one of the few universal issues in wrestling, as anyone can go out of action at any time. It can be quite the ordeal waiting on them to recover, as any storyline could be stopped out of nowhere. That can hurt all kinds of things in a wrestling promotion, but sometimes the injury is part of the storyline. Thankfully that is the case again. Last week on AEW Dynamite, the Jericho Appreciation Society slammed Ruby Soho’s hand in a car door, seemingly breaking it. Soho appeared on this week’s show but did not wrestle, with Eddie Kingston swearing revenge against Chris Jericho for causing Soho’s injury. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Soho’s injury is not legitimate and is only a way to extend the Kingston vs. Jericho feud. Soho wrestled a match for Wrestling Revolver over the weekend with no issues. Opinion: That is a relief after AEW has suffered so many injuries in recent months. Thankfully Soho should be back in the ring in no time, as the injur..

That’s A Crossover: AEW Is Teaming Up With Shark Week For A Very Special Match

That’s a way to go. There are a lot of wrestling shows that take place on any given week. That means there are all kinds of ways to build them up, meaning the different promotions need to come up with something fresh. Sometimes these ideas are not ones that a wrestling company comes up with on their own, and that seems to be the case again this coming week. AEW has announced that Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho will face off this week on Dynamite. The match will be a barbed wire death match with the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society suspended above the ring in shark cages. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is the result, of Discovery wanting to tie the show in to their Shark Week. This is what AEW came up with to satisfy their request. Opinion: That’s certainly unique, but really what else was there for AEW to do? Shark Week and professional wrestling don’t have many things in common so this was about as good as they could have done. If nothing else, maybe the match..

AEW Dynamite Results – June 15, 2022

Dynamite Date: June 15, 2022 Location: Chaifetz Arena, St. Louis, Missouri Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone The road to Forbidden Door continues and as has been the case with AEW in recent weeks, things have gotten a little bit screwy. This time around it is Jeff Hardy getting arrested for driving under the influence, meaning that he will not be around for this week’s Tag Team Title match. Hopefully this doesn’t throw the show into chaos so let’s get to it. Chris Jericho vs. Ortiz Hair vs. hair, the Jericho Appreciation Society and Eddie Kingston are here, and William Regal is on commentary. Ortiz charges in and knocks Jericho to the floor for some biting of the face. Jericho takes over outside and hammers away inside, only to have Ortiz get in some shots of his own. The suicide dive is broken up though and Jericho hits a suplex off the apron to the floor as we take a break. Back with Ortiz clotheslining his way out of trouble and hitting a quick cutter. Jericho rol..

Keep It Coming: AEW Announces Two Big Matches For Double Or Nothing

The card keeps getting bigger. AEW has a pay per view schedule that is very different than what WWE does. The company presents a pay per view about every three months, which makes their events feel that much more important. They know how to put together a show that feels like a big deal and that is what they are doing again with Double Or Nothing. Now we know more of what they have planned. AEW announced two more matches for the Double Or Nothing card this week on Dynamite. First, Tag Team Champions Jurassic Express issued a challenge to Team Taz and Swerve Strickland/Keith Lee for a triple threat match. Later in the show, the Jericho Appreciation Society and the team of Jon Moxley/Bryan Danielson/Santana/Ortiz/Eddie Kingston agreed to meet in a Gang Warfare match, which will mean no rules and anything goes. Double Or Nothing is scheduled to take place on May 29. Opinion: I’m starting to get hyped up for Double Or Nothing as the show has mostly taken shape. One of the best things abo..

Put It Together: AEW Considering Major, Violent Match Soon

They have a plan. There are all kinds of different matches you might see on a wrestling show, though most of the time the bigger ones are saved for some of the more important shows. That can make for some interesting moments, as a major match under the right setup can be quite the attraction for the promotion presenting it. Now we might be seeing another huge one soon. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW is planning on presenting a Blood And Guts match in the near future, though the specific date is not known. The match will possibly feature the Jericho Appreciation Society against Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson of the Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz. AEW has run one Blood And Guts match in history, when the Pinnacle defeated the Inner Circle on May 5, 2021. Opinion: I like the idea of an annual match like this one, but it is a bit strange to see an all star team against the Jericho Appreciation Society. The team doesn’t have the lineup to hang in ther..

Two AEW Stars Undergo Name Changes

That’s what they’ll be called. A wrestler’s name is one of the most important parts of their entire presentation. If a wrestler has the wrong name, it could leave them fairly low on the ladder, as no one will be taking them seriously. Sometimes you will see a wrestler change their name for one reason or another, and that was the case again this week with a pair of names. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured the first interview with the newly formed Jericho Appreciation Society. During the interview, Chris Jericho said that 2.0 was a bad name from “bad creative” and announced that they would not be going by their previous names of Matt Lee and Jeff Parker. Instead, they would not be known as “Daddy Magic” Matt Minard and “Cool Hand Ang” Angelo Parker. Opinion: I’m not sure how much of a difference the changes are going to make, but at least they have done something interesting with them for a change. 2.0 have been fairly successful during their time in AEW but they haven’t exa..

Longtime AEW Stable Breaks Up, New One Takes Its Place

It can’t last forever. There are a lot of stables in wrestling history and several of them have been nothing short of great. It can be an easy way to get multiple people onto a shot at once and offer a big story at the same time. Sometimes you get something very special, but there is almost always a split for the group as well. That was the case this week, with the biggest stable AEW has ever seen. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a segment between Chris Jericho and Eddie Kingston which saw the two of them shaking hands. After the two shook hands, Daniel Garcia and 2.0 came to the ring to attack Kingston. Jericho’s Inner Circle teammates Santana and Ortiz came to the ring but were attacked by Jericho, who turned on the two of them to split up the team. Jake Hager joined Jericho, Garcia and 2.0, with Jericho dubbing the new team the Jericho Appreciation Society. The Inner Circle originally debuted on October 9, 2019, the second week of Dynamite. Opinion: This is a surprise,..

Matt Sydal Says Lucha Underground Is Modern Wrestling Society X

WWE, ROH, and NJPW veteran, and Impact Wrestling star Matt Sydal recently spoke to Wrestling Epicenter's Interactive Wrestling Radio. You can see highlights below, and the full interview at this link. Being X Division Champion: "I can tell you this about this belt. I'm attached to it. It's attached to me." Every wrestler now working what was considered the "X Division" Style in 2002: "Well, I think that if everybody is doing that style then there are a few people who truly embody it and everybody else is just an immitator. What you have is a bunch of people who will forever be my challengers and somebody like me who truly embodies the OG, the original stylings of the X Division. That's me. I am that man! Of course the X Division title found me. Yeah, the belt has been through a lot of incarnations. But, what it has is a lineage that you can stand behind. A lineage that you can believe in. A lineage that is what wrestling is today. I am NOT like any other wrestler...

The Ross Report Recap w/ Bruce Mitchell – Battleground Analysis, Fatal 4-Way Sure to Deliver, Are There Too Many PPVs? More!

<p>Ross says that while this past Sunday’s Battleground PPV has been widely criticized by fans and critics alike, he doesn’t believe any of that should be placed at the feet of the talent who he thought worked very hard on Sunday night. He believes we’re living in a society where the glass is always half empty, when in reality it could be half full as well.</p><p>He says that sometimes WWE has the tendency to book themselves into a corner, and that might have been the case this past Sunday. With a Flag Match and a Punjabi Prison match, WWE removed the drama of false finishes and this might have been a negative to the show’s overall presentation.</p><p></p><p>He thought <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/Kevin-Owens" title="Kevin Owens">Kevin Owens</a></strong> and A.J. Styles had a very good match, but there was an intangible missing and that prevented it from being great. He says that if he was booking a territory today two of the first individuals he’d want to sign are Owens and Styles. Ross also thought Cena & <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/rusev" title="Rusev">Rusev</a></strong> worked hard in their match despite the live crowd being somewhat uninterested.</p><p>Ross thought all the women worked hard in their match as well and while <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/natalya" title="Natalya">Natalya</a></strong> winning was a surprise, Ross thinks this was a great booking decision by WWE. Charlotte is obviously the alpha female in WWE right now but she needs opponents, so Ross thinks it’s only a matter of time before this Natalya win results in a positive situation for Charlotte.</p>

Former WWE Diva Coming Out of Retirement for Mae Young Classic?

<p>It <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/looks/" title="looks">looks</a></strong> like a former WWE Diva may be coming out of retirement for the upcoming Mae Young Women’s tournament.</p><p><a href="http://www.prowrestlingsheet.com/mae-young-classic-former-wwe-talks/#.WUQ2dZDys2w" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pro Wrestling Sheet</a> reports that the company has been in talks with Serena Deeb about being part of the upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament. For those that don’t remember, Deeb was part of CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society group in 2009-2010. She retired from the ring back in 2015.</p>

Marty Scurll Wants Match Against Former WWE Superstar CM Punk

<p>Marty Scurll appeared on the <a href="http://podbay.fm/show/934576040/e/1496286608?autostart=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast</strong></a> for a new interview. Here are some highlights:</p><p><strong>Switching from his Party Marty to Villain gimmick:</strong> “What I’d like to suggest now is my previous character, a fun-loving, good guy, ‘Party’ Marty, was actually the whole plan all along because all good villains start off as a nice person, something happens, and they turn into that evil villain, so I’m actually a genius. My character is like a long thing, like 12 years. I tried to be a good guy. I tried to be the one everyone loved. They turned their backs on me. Society turned on me. And then, I turned out to be an absolute asshole. Are you surprised? These people made this happen.”</p><p><strong>When he thought about changing his look:</strong> “There was a very famous quote, well, I’m not sure how famous it is, but a quote either way from Matt Groening who wrote The Simpsons. And he said that all great characters can be recognized from their silhouette. And I thought, ‘Well, that’s an interesting point.’ And I thought, ‘Well, okay, I need to get something to mix this up.’ So yeah, it was a gradual thing. It wasn’t like, ‘This is my character!’ It’s an evolving thing. It still is, even to this day.”</p><p><strong>The importance of having a developed character:</strong> “I think originally I just assumed I’d be a really good wrestler and then someone would give me a character and I’d be good enough to play it off. Right, right, they’d be like, ‘You’re going to be Mantaur 2,’ and I’m like, ‘Yes, I love it!’ I could do that. No. But I think you quickly realize to get by and be successful in wrestling purely based on your in-ring ability is…you have to be really remarkable. Guys like ‘Dynamite Kid’ could do it, but I feel like to be a main event player and a character some people can get invested in, that’s the most thing, I think.”</p><p><strong>Guys who are great in-ring talents needing good characters:</strong> “If you look at the guys who have broke out from Europe, you have Zack [<strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/sabre/" title="Sabre">Sabre</a></strong>, Jr.] and you have [Will] Ospreay, who are really, really exceptional in their fields. Zack is the best technical wrestler and Ospreay is the best high flyer, so they don’t have to rely as much on characters, but they will because they are the best in their field, but there will come a point when they’ll have to excel in that character. Wrestling on TV and wrestling on the indies are two different things, so they’ll have to.”</p><p><strong>Heel/babyface dynamics:</strong> “What the hell is a heel? Who said I was a heel? I’m ‘The Villain’, I didn’t say I was [a heel]. I don’t play by these pro wrestling rules of faces and heels. I just don’t. I don’t care about that. You can live by those wrestling rules. I think outside the box. I’m a villain. I’m an antagonist. I do nasty things. If the people want to cheer or boo it, that’s down to them. It’s says more about them than it does about me.”</p><p><strong>Wanting to face CM Punk:</strong> “CM Punk, I’d like to <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/bring/" title="bring">bring</a></strong> CM Punk out of retirement and wrestle him for sure. I don’t know if CM Punk listens to this show, but if he [does]…” Scurll added, “but CM Punk, if you’re watching, come out of retirement. We can cause <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/quite/" title="quite">quite</a></strong> a bother of a wrestling match. What do you say? And that’d be fun, right? Yeah, that’s one for the headlines!”</p>
