That wouldn’t have worked. The wrestling world was rocked this week by the shocking death of Jay Briscoe at age 38 in a car accident. The news broke on Tuesday and since then, all kinds of tributes and memories have been posted online by wrestlers and wrestling fans. Thankfully something like this does not happen often, but it turns out that it caused a big change to a wrestling show as well. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Switch: Two AEW Stars Turn Heel On Dynamite According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, Briscoe’s death caused a planned segment on this week’s NXT to be changed. The original plans called for Pretty Deadly to hold a funeral for New Day, but the news of Briscoe’s passing caused New Day and WWE executive Shawn Michaels to scrap the idea. In addition, Michaels made the call for commentator Vic Joseph to mention Briscoe during the broadcast. There was a planned NXT segment tonight where New Day would hold a "funeral" for Pretty Deadly's title shot. When word of Jay Bri..

Homecoming: More Details On Surprise WWE Return

December 21, 2022

It’s all about the details. There have been several surprise returns to WWE this year, some of which have been almost shocking. It means a lot when a former star makes a return to WWE, and another one happened this week. Another former NXT champion made a surprise return, albeit this time on the main roster, and now we know a bit more about how everything went down. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Former WWE Star Teases Third Run With Company This week on Monday Night Raw, Bronson Reed made a surprise return to Wwe, helping Miz defeat Dexter Lumis in a ladder match. According to Fightful Select, Reed was a “priority hire” for WWE under the Triple H regime, with Reed leaving New Japan, where he had been working as Jonah, to return. While Reed has not wrestled since October, he has been talking about New Japan’s January 4 Wrestle Kingdom event to hide a potential WWE return. Reed is a former NXT North American Champion but was released from WWE in August 2021. Reed is a force..

WATCH: Shocking Betrayal Takes Place On AEW Dynamite

December 1, 2022

That’s a twist. There are several different ways to present a wrestling storyline, with some of them being fairly obvious. You can see where things are going from the start and then the story does not veer too far one way or another. That is not always how things go though, as occasionally there will be a major twist. We saw another one this week, even if it was the most logical surprise you could have. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They’re Back: Two Surprise Returns Take Place On AEW Dynamite This week’s AEW Dynamite featured the first comments from Maxwell Jacob Friedman since he wont he World Title at Full Gear with the help of William Regal. During Friedman’s comments, he spoke about how great Regal was before using Regal’s brass knuckles to attack Regal from behind. Friedman then spoke to the unconscious Regal, using the same terms that Regal used in an email to Friedman in the past, telling him that he wasn’t good enough for WWE. Regal was then taken out on a stretcher. This was a bi..

Next Time: WWE Cancels Upcoming Event

September 27, 2022

One less on the calendar. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that gives them a lot of advantages over other companies. One of their major strengths is the name recognition that comes with running regular events around the country. It means something to get to see the action live, but that will not be the case for some fans. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has canceled its upcoming Sunday Stunner event on October 16 in Prescott Valley, Arizona. There was no reason given for the cancellation of the show, which would have been the first WWE event in the venue, and no makeup date announced. The event was to be a SmackDown show, featuring matches such as the New Day vs. the Usos and Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross. Opinion: This one comes a bit out of nowhere and I’m curious to know why the show was canceled. There is always the chance that it was due to low ticket sales, which would not be the most shocking in a new venue. WWE is on a bit of a roll ..

AEW Rampage Results – September 23, 2022 (Grand Slam)

September 24, 2022

Rampage Date: September 24, 2022 Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York City, New York Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho It’s the biggest Rampage of the year as we are in New York City for a stacked two house show. The card is headlined by a battle royal (shocking I know) for the #1 contendership as we have a title shot to get through before Full Gear. Other than that, there are a bunch of grudge matches so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. House Of Black vs. Sting/Darby Allin No DQ and Sting/Allin pop up behind the House (Brody King/Buddy Matthews with Julia Hart) during their entrances to start the fight on the stage. The bell rings and they fight to the ring with the House taking over without much trouble. Sting gets surrounded but manages to fight them both off, only to be driven hard into the corner. A super Code Red gives Allin two on King but a suicide dive is cut off by a raised knee. Sting goes up but gets shoved through a table, with his h..

BREAKING: Roman Reigns Set To Defend Against Shocking Challenger At WWE Crown Jewel

September 16, 2022

It’s a way to go. We are firmly in the Roman Reigns era as Reigns is now over two years into his run as Universal Champion. This is in addition to the WWE Title that he won back at WrestleMania 38, making him the undisputed World Champion of the company. That much time as champion means that he is going to run out of challengers, but now WWE has a fresh opponent in mind. Earlier this week, Reigns and Logan Paul went at it on Twitter, with Reigns assigning Paul Heyman to deal with the situation. Heyman said that he would take care of it and Triple H invited Paul to SmackDown to do so. According to F4WOnline.com, Paul vs. Reigns is expected to headline Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 5, with a press conference planned for Saturday. The match is likely to be announced on SmackDown. Opinion: This is the kind of match that comes out of nowhere and I’m curious to see how Paul can do in that kind of a setting. He did very well at Summerslam which is a big enough deal, but this is an..

REVIEW: New York Wrestling Connection Psycho Circus 17: What A Concept

July 19, 2022

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Psycho Circus 17 Date: February 23, 2019 Location: NYWC Sportatorium, Deer Park, New York Commentators: Christopher Andrews, Matt Striker This is from the New York Wrestling Connection, a promotion out of New York (shocking I know) that has been around for almost twenty years. As is usually the case, I know nothing about the show coming in and that can make things fun. Granted I’m not sure how much fun a show called Psycho Circus is going to be but let’s get to it. Keep in mind that I know nothing about this plac..
