The rules are the rules. The NBA held its annual celebrity basketball game this weekend, which was part of its All-Star festivities. One of the celebrities who participated was The Miz, who had a fantastic moment that suddenly turned into a disaster. The Miz, who was on Team [Dwayne] Wade, hit a half-court shot to potentially tie the game and send it to overtime, only to have it waived off because he released the ball after time expired. You can see the shot and the aftermath below: [This post contains video, click to play] From NBA.com: The second-most star-studded game of All-Star weekend wasn’t short on bling, fame, drama, or last-minute excitement Friday as the basketball weekend kicked off in style. It was the 2023 Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and it was decided at the final buzzer — or not. WWE Superstar The Miz sank a half-court heave that was waved off, much to the relief of Team Dwyane Wade, which survived and beat Team Ryan Smith 81-78. The MVP of the game was ..
Monday Night Raw Date: February 6, 2023 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We are less than two weeks away from Elimination Chamber and that means it is time to start getting more qualifying matches out of the way. In addition to that though, we have a cage match between Bayley and Becky Lynch which should be a heck of a showdown. That should be enough but Cody Rhodes will be somewhere as well. Let’s get to it. Here are Edge and Beth Phoenix for a chat, but first we see a clip of Edge quitting at Extreme Rules to save Beth from a Conchairto, which happened anyway. Then they returned at Elimination Chamber, where they took out Judgment Day again. In the arena, Edge talks about how he wanted Judgment Day to be about finding new talent. We hear about the members of the team but then everything fell apart. The team attacked Edge so here is their golf clap. Fans: “YOU STILL GOT IT!” Edge: “I never lost it!” Beth wants to get the fight on bu..

Jay Briscoe: A Celebration Of Life Date: January 26, 2023 Location: Save Mart Center, Fresno, California Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Carpice Coleman As you might have guessed, this is a special show honoring the life of Jay Briscoe, who passed away last week. The show was filmed after last week’s AEW taping and features special matches, plus presumably tributes and maybe classic matches from Briscoe’s career. That should be more than enough so let’s get to it. We get the tribute video from this week’s Dynamite. Ring Of Honor Pure Rules Title: Hagane Shinno vs. Wheeler Yuta Yuta is defending under Pure Rules and Shinno is from Big Japan. They go with the grappling to start with Yuta working on a head/wristlock. Shinno shrugs that off and strikes away but gets caught with an Angle Slam for two. Yuta starts in on the leg and the cranking sends Shinno to the ropes for the first break. That’s fine with Yuta, who grabs a Gory Stretch to work on the back. Something like the Octopus sends..
The trip continues. Back at Extreme Rules 2022, Bray Wyatt made his return to WWE, revealing himself to be the White Rabbit after weeks of speculation. Once Wyatt was back though, the question became what is he supposed to do now. That is the tricky part, as Wyatt is one of the most complicated stars in all of WWE. A few months have passed and we might have a better idea, but now things have taken another twist. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Glow On? People are excited. WWE issued a press release today, stating that they have broken the company’s all-time gate record for any WrestleMania, despite having yet to announce a single match. The previous record announced was $17.3 million in 2016 at WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. From the press release: The record gate comes on the heels of unprecedented ticket sales demand for WWE in 2022, in which it produced the highest-grossing gates of all-time for Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Extreme Rules. Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, which marked WWE’s first major stadium show in the U.K. in 30 years, was the highest-grossing U.K. event in company history. Additionally, WWE set in-market gate records for SmackDown and Raw events in more than 20 markets for the year, including the December 30 SmackDown, which took place in Tampa, Fla. and heralded the return of WWE Superstar John Cena. Limited single and two-day combo tickets for WrestleMania Goes Hollywood ..

That’s a nasty one. There are all kinds of injuries a wrestler can suffer, with some of them being more serious than others. While there are certain injuries that are going to leave a wrestler out of action for a very long time, others can seem rather small but wind up being more nagging than anything else. That might have taken place again to a big WWE name at a recent live event. He’s back. There have been a lot of returns over the course of the year, with some huge names returning to WWE after lengthy absences. The new rules. There are all kinds of rules to a wrestling match and all of them come together to make sure everything stays fair. Those rules are pretty easy to figure out and understand and it is notable when one of them is changed. Other parts of wrestling have rules of their own and now one of the more important seems to have been changed as well in a big way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Back Later: More On Postponed WWE Live Event In India According to Dave Meltzer on The Board at F4WOnline.com, WWE has changed its Wellness Policy by dropping the rule that a wrestler is automatically fired for a third violation. This comes as multiple key stars have two strikes and the company has AEW to deal with these days. In addition, there was a chance that a star with two strikes could intentionally get a third to get out of their contract. There have been some big stars fired in WWE. That’s a big one. We are coming up on the Royal Rumble and that means there are going to be several stars busy. With sixty wrestlers being used in the show’s namesake matches, there is not much room for anything else on the show. That means WWE is going to need to have something big to make up for it, and they might have one of the biggest matches available. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bro? That would be a fight. Wrestling is a unique sport as while it is presented as a legitimate fight, the finishes are pre-determined and the wrestlers are tasked with working together to make the match work as well as possible. However, there are also questions about who would win should these matches be legitimate contests. Now one legend is chiming in on who he thinks could beat a top WWE star. Barbarian said that he felt if the fight was structured with rules, Lesnar would win, but if it was a bar fight with no rules and both in their primes, Haku would be able to take Lesnar. Haku is often cited as the toughest wrestler in history, while Lesnar is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling Champion. These are some tal..
The news dropped on Monday that Triple H and WWE officials were interested in having Stone Cold Steve Austin do more with the company following his long awaited return to in-ring competition at WrestleMania 38 against Kevin Owens. Since then, the internet continues to speculate on who the best opponent would be for The Texas Rattlesnake with WrestleMania 39 returning to Hollywood. Naturally, there are a handful of dream matches that would help sell out SoFi Stadium this April. The few names that have emerged from the rumor mill thus far include John Cena, The Rock and CM Punk. While they each have their own unique intrigue for the grandest stage of them all, The Nature Boy is ruling out a few of these big names himself. Related: How A Possible CM Punk WWE Return Is Being Received Backstage During his latest To Be The Man podcast on Wednesday, Ric Flair was asked about Austin’s next opponent and immediately didn’t see a potential WWE return and match with Stone Cold as a valid option ..
Let the games begin. Tonight on Smackdown, a Six-Pack Challenge match was held to determine who the no. 1 contender for the Smackdown Women’s Championship would be. But who was the winner? Shotzi defeated Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Sonya Deville, Lacey Evans, and Xia Li in the match and, as a result, will challenge Ronda Rousey for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Survivor Series 2022. From WWE.com: Rousey has been dominant since capturing the title from Morgan at WWE Extreme Rules and has added extra security in the form of Shayna Baszler, making her even more dangerous. Can Shotzi dethrone Rousey, or will The Baddest Woman on the Planet once again live up to her moniker? Editor’s Opinion: I am so happy that Shotzi is finally getting to show the world what she can do. She thrived in NXT and I feel was never utilized properly on the main roster while Vince McMahon was in charge. However, Triple H sees something in her, and I’m glad she’s getting the chance to step up again..
It was nice while it lasted. There have been a lot of titles over the years in Wwe and that is still the case to this day. The company has quite a few championships between its three main brands, some of which have some unique rules behind them. In a rare move though, WWE has gotten rid of one of the championships after it had not been used very often in recent months. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross defeated Dana Brooke to become the new 24/7 Title, only to throw the title away later in the night. Now the WWE Superstars page is saying that the title’s history runs from 2019 – 2022 rather than “present”. While not confirmed, this would suggest that the title has been retired and will not be returning for the time being. Opinion: I don’t think this is the biggest surprise as the title was literally thrown away (or at least close to it, as Cross missed the trash can) a few days ago. The title has not exactly been active in recent months and it makes sense to just drop the th..
There are catches. WWE is the biggest wrestling company in the world but they are not the only option out there. In addition to WWE, there are all kinds of wrestling promotions around the world that have quite the followings of their own. Those companies are able to offer major matches, but in this case WWE is working with one of the other promotions. There just happen to be some special rules to follow. It was recently announced that WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura would be facing Great Muta at the January 1, 2023 Pro Wrestling Noah event as part of Nakamura’s retirement tour. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the match is being allowed to take place, but with certain restrictions. While Pro Wrestling Noah is allowed to create the hype video and match graphics, but they are not allowed to mention WWE anywhere outside of Japan or in anything written in English. There is no word on if WWE will promote the match. Opinion: This is one of those things that probably has some busines..
He’s a big deal. There are certain wrestlers who make their returns and have an immediate impact. You can tell when you are seeing someone special and they change the way a promotion works. That can make for some very interesting moments and you can feel the change taking place. It is currently taking place in WWE and now we have some numbers to back it up. Bray Wyatt made his return to WWE at Extreme Rules in October, revealing himself to be the White Rabbit that had been teased for weeks leading up to the show. During WWE’s Q3 Earnings call, Triple H revealed that the White Rabbit story was credited with causing Extreme Rules’ viewership to rise 30%. In addition, the September 23 SmackDown saw a 20% viewership increase in the second hour on the thought the White Rabbit would be revealed. Wyatt has since been regularly appearing on SmackDown. Opinion: That is the kind of thing you do not get to see very often but it is cool to see one name getting credited with this kind of success...
They have a plan. Back at WWE Extreme Rules, Bray Wyatt made his return to the company after a year plus absence. Wyatt’s return has led to a question about what is next for him in WWE, as he has been presented as one of the top stars in the company. Now WWE needs to figure out what he is going to do next and they might have an idea for a major feud. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE may be considering a feud between Wyatt and Roman Reigns at some point in the future. It is not clear when this feud will be taking place or if WWE has officially decided to have the two feud. Reigns defeated Wyatt and Braun Strowman to win the WWE Universal Title at Payback 2020 and he has held the title ever since. Opinion: This is an idea that will have to happen at some point though I’m worried about what happens if Wyatt loses to Reigns. The best way to kill off the momentum of someone like Wyatt is to have them lose and making him Reigns’ latest victim is a rather dangerous idea. ..
