Let’s Get Rowdy: Update On Ronda Rousey’s WrestleMania 39 Status

It could be worse? We are getting closer and closer to WrestleMania and a lot of the card has already been set up. With so little time left though, there are only so many more changes that can be made. Occasionally something happens that necessitates a change though and while we have not reached that point just yet, one WWE star will not be going into WrestleMania as planned. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s Over: Six Month Old Streak Snapped On Monday Night Raw Last week on SmackDown, Ronda Rousey accompanied Shayna Baszler to the ring with her arm in a sling. This was later revealed to be due to Rousey re-aggravating a previous injury. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Rousey and Baszler are still expected to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania, but Rousey is not likely to be at 100% for the match. Ouch? With less than a month to go before WrestleMania 39, almost anything that happens on a WWE show is going to have some kind of ramifications on the upcoming big nights. Most of the stories have already been started but there is plenty of time for more things to happen on the way there. They have a plan. We are a week away from the Royal Rumble and WWE is going to need to do something special for the show. The Royal Rumble is a show with a lot of built in advantages as the show’s namesake matches allow for multiple surprises. Planning those out can be difficult but WWE has already started, albeit in a way that you might not be expecting. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Not So Rowdy? Update On Ronda Rousey’s WWE Status According to Fightful Select, while WWE is planning surprises for the Royal Rumble, the company is leaning towards “non-traditional surprises”. It is not entirely clear what that means, but WWE has been going against the idea of having veterans come in for a spot in the Royal Rumble matches. Not that one. The Royal Rumble is a complicated show as there are so many people taken up by the show’s namesake matches. That does not leave much room for wrestlers to not be around, though it can made a bit easier if the roster is deep enough coming into the show. It seems to be the case this year, as one prominent WWE star is no longer expected to appear at the event. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: REVIEW: Raw 25: The Previous Biggest Reunion Ever According to Fightful Select, Ronda Rousey is no longer expected to appear at the Royal Rumble. Rousey was originally scheduled to have a singles match on the show but the plans have since changed. There is no word on any reason for the change, though Rousey was also scheduled to appear at Raw 30 before the plans were changed as well. “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff Passes Away At Age 71

We have some sad news to report today, as WWE Hall of Famer “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff has passed away at the age of 71. From WWE.com: Orndorff was a standout running back at the University of Tampa and joined Mid-Southern Wrestling after a brief stint in the World Football League. Early rivalries with Jerry Lawler, Ted Dibiase and Jake “The Snake” Roberts gave way to NWA North American Heavyweight and National Heavyweight Championship reigns. Orndorff joined WWE in 1983 and was tabbed with the “Mr. Wonderful” nickname by his then-manager “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. With his awe-insipring in-ring style and umatched swagger, “Mr. Wonderful” turned his talent into a prototype for the modern-day Superstar. He made a memorable debut on January 23, 1984, with a win over Salvatore Bellomo at Madison Square Garden and launched right into the main event picture with matches against World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan.
