AEW Honors Jay Briscoe In Dynamite’s Main Event
They will always be Dem Boys. Tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite featured a tribute to Jay Briscoe, as his brother Mark, made his AEW debut against their longtime friend and rival, Jay Lethal. This tribute match came just over a week after Jay Briscoe passed away in a car accident at the age of 38. Ironically, the show also happened to be taking place on what would have been Jay’s 39th birthday. The finish of the match came when Mark Briscoe connected with The Froggy Bow through the timekeeper’s table. He then rolled Lethal into the ring, and after a series of maneuvers, Briscoe planted Lethal with The Jay Driller to pick up the victory. Following the match, the entire AEW locker room came on stage and gave a round of applause to both competitors. Several of them also hugged Lethal as he came up to the top of the entrance ramp. Not that one. The Royal Rumble is a complicated show as there are so many people taken up by the show’s namesake matches. That does not leave much room for wrestlers to not be around, though it can made a bit easier if the roster is deep enough coming into the show. It seems to be the case this year, as one prominent WWE star is no longer expected to appear at the event. Rousey was originally scheduled to have a singles match on the show but the plans have since changed. Frankie Kazarian Leaves AEW; Joins Impact Wrestling
Sometimes you need a new job. At tonight’s Impact Wrestling Hard to Kill pay-per-view event, Frankie Kazarian announced that he had signed a new, long-term contract with the promotion. Kazarian cut a promo during the show, stating that after wrestling from Impact, he had to decide whether to remain complacent and be with “people he thought were his friends” or push himself and he chose to push himself. According to a report from PWInsider, after his 40-minute match with Josh Alexander, Kazarian asked AEW to be released and it was granted. It was said to be a completely amicable situation based on Kazarian wanting to push himself harder as he’s getting closer to the latter point of his career. In Impact, he’d had a chance to be more in the mix than he’d likely be able to get the opportunity to do in AEW, given how massive that company’s roster is.
