WWE Star Held Off TV Due To Coronavirus Protocols, Title Match Postponed

There’s your absence. The Coronavirus pandemic changed the way the wrestling world works and while things are mostly back to normal, there are still a few issues that are still hanging around. This includes wrestlers occasionally being held off of shows due to health worries, and that seems to be the case again, though this time it shook up some special plans for a show. A WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match did not take place as scheduled this week on Monday Night Raw as Rhea Ripley was placed in Coronavirus protocols. The scheduled match would have seen Ripley and Liv Morgan challenging Sasha Banks and Naomi for the titles, though the match will now take place next week. There is nothing to suggest that Ripley has contracted the virus. Opinion: This almost feels like a complete blast from the past and that is a great thing to see. Update On Postponed AEW Dynamite Match

It’s going to happen at some point. With as much wrestling as you can find anywhere today, there are going to be some instances of things not going as planned. Sometimes a match might be announced in advance but for one reason or another, a change has to be made. That seems to be the case again this week and now we know a bit more about what happened. Last week on AEW Dynamite, FTR interrupted a Lee Johnson/k Anderson interview to set up a match on this week’s show. However, the match did not take place and there was little mention of the match whatsoever. According to PWInsider.com, the match was postponed due to medical protocols, though it is not clear which of the four were involved. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there is no word on if this is a Coronavirus incident. Bring on the Beast. Tonight on Raw, the original Fatal 4-way match from Day 1 took place, in order to determine who the new No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship would be. The winner of that match would earn the right to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at the 2022 Royal Rumble. It is always a risk. The Coronavirus pandemic has wrecked havoc on the wrestling world over the last year and a half, but things are starting to get back to normal. That being said, there is still the chance that something could go wrong and cause a wrestler to be infected no matter what. Unfortunately that seems to be the case again and it is happening at the very last minute. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has announced that he has tested positive for the Coronavirus, meaning that he is off this weekend’s WWE Day One pay per view. Reigns was scheduled to headline the event against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title. WWE has announced that Lesnar has been added to the WWE Title match, making it a fatal five way. After a national steady decrease in new cases, White House executive and other COVID-19 commitee members have now presented a phasal plan to reopen the country for gatherings and life the current restrictions. According to a document from NPR, the guideline for all phases is to continue to practice good hygiene, and for all employers to remain stern in the temperature checks, testing, isolating, and contact tracing, sanitation, use of disinfection of common and high-traffic areas, and business travel. As presented by Dr. Deborah Birx, Phase One includes all vulnerable individuals continuing to shelter in place, as well as continuing to practice social distancing from others.
