AEW Files New Trademark; New Television Show Coming?

What are they up to? AEW has filed a new trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, looking for “AEW Collision” to be found under entertainment services. This filing seems to suggest that the company is adding another television show to its lineup, as the trademark is listed as a show. AEW already airs Dynamite on TBS and Rampage on TNT while their streaming shows, AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation, air on YouTube. AEW’s PPV events air on Bleacher Report. The trademark reads as follows: “Mark For: AEW COLLISON™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of educational and entertainment services, namely, a continuing program about wrestling accessible by radio, television, satellite, audio, video and computer networks; Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and events; Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing multimedia program featuring wrestling..

He’s Next: Former WWE Star Believes Goldberg “Has A Thumb On” Him

He said no? There have been all kinds of stars throughout WWE’s history, some of which have become iconic names in the sport. It means a lot for a lower level star to work with them, but at the same time, there are instances of one of the bigger names slowing things down for a smaller name. Now one of the real parody stars is claiming that the real version did just that. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Dominik Mysterio Gets Arrested At Rey Mysterio’s Home In an interview with Cheap Heat Productions, former WWE star Gillberg claimed that people have told him that WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg “has a thumb” on him. As a result, Gillberg cannot have an action figure or a shirt or be included in a video game. Gillberg did make it clear that he was NOT 100% sure this was the case, but the people who had spoken to him believed it to be. Gillberg parodied Goldberg on and off in WWE for years before retiring in 2022. He had his moments. Check out Gillberg’s time in WWE: [This post contains vide..

WATCH: AEW Dynamite Set For Major Change Going Forward

You have to keep things fresh. Television is the focal point of most wrestling promotions as it is the easiest way to get the fans to see what the company is doing. At the same time, the television show itself has to look good and catch the fans’ attention. That means some changes occasionally need to be made and now one of the bigger wrestling shows going today will be doing just that. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Another Run? Former WWE Star Lana Thinks Miro Will Return To WWE This week on AEW Rampage, a vignette aired advertising a new look for AEW Dynamite starting with the January 4 edition. Later that night, Vice President of Post-Production Kevin Sullivan posted about the vignette on Twitter, calling it a “bold, new vision” and the result of nine months of work. Sullivan also credited Tony Khan, saying his “vision is boundless”. There is no word on if Rampage will be changed as well. This is a different way to go. Check out the new look, plus some great moments from Dynamite past: ..

Christmas Gift: Backstage Reason For WWE Running Best Of Monday Night Raw Next Week

How nice of them. We are coming up on the end of the year and that means WWE is doing some things a little differently than usual. In this case, that means running a pair of live events on the Monday after Christmas, with Monday Night Raw being different as well. That changes more than a few things, but it seems that it is for the benefit of a certain group of people. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Postpones Major Upcoming International Event This Monday, WWE announced that the December 26 edition of Monday Night Raw would be a special Best Of show rather than a regular episode. According to Fightful Select, the change was made in part to give some of the production staff time off. While there will be two teams working at live events, there would be more workers needed for a television taping. Next week’s NXT and SmackDown have already been taped in advance. WWE has some success at live events. Check out some of their better ones: [This post contains video, click to p..

It Would Be A Record: WWE Hall Of Famer Wants To Return After 21 Years For Royal Rumble

One more on the list? We are about a month away from the 2023 Royal Rumble and that means it is time to start getting ready for one of the more complicated nights of the year. The Royal Rumble event will be featured around two of the show’s namesake matches, meaning sixty wrestlers will be needed. Some of them will be brought in from outside of WWE and one is willing to throw his hat in the ring. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE’s Plans For Toxic Attraction Before Mandy Rose’s Release During a recent interview with the Cheap Heat Productions podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Bushwhacker Luke was asked about returning to WWE for the 2023 Royal Rumble. Luke said he would absolutely be in the match if he was asked, despite turning 76 years old in January. Luke still wrestles regularly on the independent circuit and last wrestled for WWE at WrestleMania X7 in 2001. It’s been a bit. Backstage News On AEW’s Trick To Save Money

That sounds like a plan. There are a lot of things that go down throughout a wrestling show, including things that do not take place in front of the audience. That is the kind of thing that you see take place on any given show, but at the same time, it does not mean that you are seeing something take place as it seems. Now we know a bit more about how a major promotion makes this work. Fightful Select has some details on AEW’s backstage production setup. AEW reportedly films several of their backstage segments in advance rather than live in an effort to reduce travel costs. If a wrestler is only going to be at an event for a short backstage segment, it will be filmed in advance rather than bringing someone in for a full day. For example, Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland’s backstage segment in Cincinnati was filmed in Toronto the previous week to avoid bringing in Lee and Strickland for a brief moment of filming. Opinion: This is one of those totally logical concepts and I have no idea..

Here Is One Longstanding Practice WWE Will Not Be Changing Anytime Soon

He might not be on the list. There have been a lot of changes to WWE in recent months, with some various people being moved in, out of and around company. This includes some of the biggest names the company has every known and some of its mainstays. It has become a question of who will stick around, and now we know that one name, or at least his legacy, will likely be around for the time being. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE’s camera work and production style would not change even if longtime producer left the company immediately. While there is nothing to suggest that Dunn will be leaving anytime soon, there are said to be several people in the production department who like his style of zooming in and out or having the camera shake. There is no word on who would replace Dunn if he left. Opinion: There are a lot of things throughout WWE’s history that make little sense and keeping this style of directing is one of them. I’m not sure why that is seen as a positive as the ..

WATCH: The Rock Producing New Wrestling Documentary Series (TRAILER)

That’s a new twist. Wrestling media has been changing a lot in recent years as more and more stories have been presented in one way or another. This has come in the form of books, films and television series, many of which are telling stories that have not been heard in a long time. Now we are in for another one which certainly sounds like it has some promise. According to Variety, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions will be producing a new wrestling documentary series called Tales From The Territories. The series will be from the same team that made Dark Side Of The Ring and will focus on stories from the territory days of wrestling. There is no word on what any episodes will cover. The series will debut on October 4 at 10PM EST on VICE TV. This has potential. Check out the trailer for the series: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is something that has some serious potential as Dark Side Of The Ring was a great series. I’m cur..

In this role, he will coordinate communication of AEW storylines, liaise ..

Hit The Gas: More On The Brock Lesnar Tractor Spot At Summerslam

That’s a big tractor. Summerslam has come and gone and the show certainly saw some changes for WWE. It was the first major show without Vince McMahon in charge of the company and that meant WWE needed to make some kind of an impact. A lot of that came in the main event which featured one of the stranger things that WWE has done in a rather long time. Now we know a bit more about what happened. The main event of Summerslam was a Last Man Standing match with Roman Reigns defending the WWE Universal Title against Brock Lesnar. During the match, Lesnar drove a tractor to the ring and lifted it up off the ground. According to PWInsider.com, the spot was “rougher and harder” than originally planned. There was a rehearsal for the spot earlier in the night, with a production worker driving the tractor. From another angle. Check out a different look at the tractor moving the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That is certainly something you do not see every day and it..

Backstage Details On Vince McMahon Being Edited During Production Meetings

Get the mute button ready. Last week, Vince McMahon officially retired from WWE after the better part of forty years running the company. That is the kind of thing that is going to change the wrestling industry for a very long time to come and now we get to see where things are going. We also know where they were, and some of those things were a bit less than optimal. According to Fightful Select, McMahon would regularly have to be “filtered” during creative meetings. This included editing the statements that McMahon would make in the meetings’ minutes, including inappropriate or offensive terms, calling wrestlers by the wrong name, or using terms that would not be allowed to air on television. In addition, McMahon would insist on running stories and matches that had already been done as he would forget about them, even if he was told about them. Opinion: I’ve long since been a fan of McMahon, but my goodness it can be difficult to defend some of the things he was saying or doing dur..

Vince McMahon Has Already Lost Something Due To Recent Allegations Against Him

So much for that. There are a lot of powerful and influential people in the wrestling world and then there is Vince McMahon. No one in the history of wrestling has come close to his level of authority and it is likely no one will ever get close again. That is the kind of status that can change the industry and now something McMahon has been accused of doing is changing something in another company. According to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, the McMahon Netflix documentary series has been pulled and will not be airing. The documentary was in post production with interviews filmed several months ago and millions of dollars spent. This comes after new allegations of hush payments made by McMahon to various female WWE employees over affairs with McMahon over the years. Sources tell me that the Vince McMahon Netflix documentary has been pulled & is off the programming spreadsheet at Netflix. A source at Netflix confirmed it no longer being listed on their spreadsheet, another source..

Things Were “A Little More Chaotic” Than Usual Backstage At WWE Money In The Bank

It was one of those days. WWE has a lot of pieces that come together to make any show work and some of them can go a bit better than others. At the same time, there are some events that come together better than others for one reason or another. It can be difficult to figure out what is going wrong, but in this case we might know what happened backstage at a major WWE event. According to PWInsider.com, things were “a little more chaotic” backstage at this weekend’s WWE Money In The Bank event. This included a lack of a production meeting the morning of the show and matches being worked out later than usual. There is no word on what might have caused the issue or if it caused any significant changes to how the show was presented. Opinion: At this point, is it any surprise when something is going wrong backstage at a WWE event? It seems that there is always something off or something messed up in one way or another. Maybe this was a bit worse than usual, but the problem seems to be som..

WWE Hall Of Famer Returning To Company In Executive Role

Welcome back. There are a lot of people needed to make WWE work. The company is huge and has so many different moving parts that it is difficult to keep everything moving well. It takes the right people working behind the scenes and some experience can do a lot of good for everyone involved. That is the case again as WWE is bringing back an experienced veteran to take on a big role. According to PWInsider.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett will be returning to WWE in an executive role and taking over the production of live events. He is expected to begin his new job next week. Jarrett has worked for WWE before in an executive capacity before leaving the company during the Coronavirus pandemic. During his time away, he has worked for various companies such as AAA and GCW. Opinion: This is the kind of move that makes sense for WWE as Jarrett’s main work backstage was running Impact Wrestling, but that is a kind of experience that very few have. Jarrett is a lifer in wrestling and some..

Welcome Home? WWE Considering A Big Move For NXT

That would be a different kind of reunion. WWE has a lot of resources available to it but one of the most important is NXT. The company’s own in-house developmental territory allows it to build up stars as it sees fit, which makes things a lot less complicated. Now though, WWE might be making a change to how the developmental territory is set up, or at least where it is set up. According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE is considering bringing back NXT to Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. According to Wrestlinginc.com, one of the reasons for the move was due to the Coronavirus pandemic leaving no students on campus to help put together the production. NXT was produced from the school from 2012-2020, when it was moved to the Capitol Wrestling Center. The two sides split amicably, with a future relationship always a possibility. Opinion: This is certainly something that could work, as Full Sail is a bigger venue and something that can offer a better atmosphere than the Capito..

Here Is WWE’s New Way Of Promoting WrestleMania 38 Main Event

They have a point to make. We are less than five weeks away from WrestleMania 38, which will be one of the biggest events in wrestling history. The show will take place over the course of two days in the 100,000+ seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. That is going to make it difficult to sell the place out so WWE is going to be having to work extra hard. They seem to have a plan in mind. Earlier this week, WWE announced that the main event of WrestleMania 38 will see Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in a title unification match. According to Fightful Select, WWE production and commentary “hammered home” the idea of the match being the biggest in the history of WrestleMania this week on SmackDown, with the term being used multiple times during the show. Opinion: This is one of those things where your viewing habits will determine how this goes. If you are a regular watcher of WWE television, you are going to get a bit sick of the term. That being said, if..

A Closer Look: WWE Tried Something Brand New This Week On Television

They tried something new. WWE has been around for a very long time and that they are going to have more than a few different ways to present their product. One of the most important ideas is how well the matches are shot. Some of these methods are going to be a bit more notable than others and sometimes WWE will mix things up a little bit. That is what they tried again this week. According to PWInsider.com, WWE used a different production technique during this week’s edition of NXT. This week’s show featured a camera operator in the ring with the wrestlers, who had to move around the camera operator instead. The new technique was used during the Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Creed Brothers match among others. There is no word on if this is something that will be done on a regular basis going forward. Opinion: I don’t know if this is going to make that much of a difference in the broadcast, but it is a nice idea to see WWE trying something, even anything, new. The shows feel like they h..

Yes Him: WWE Thought About Making James Ellsworth WWE Champion

That would have been something. There are a lot of titles in the wrestling world and some of them are rather prestigious. Some of those titles have been around for a very long time, with some of the better known championships being sanctioned by WWE. Winning a championship in WWE means something in the wrestling world, and it seems that a surprising name almost won the company’s signature title. During a recent interview on the Cheap Heat Productions podcast, former WWE star James Ellsworth said that there had been discussions of him winning the WWE Championship in 2016. Ellsworth did feud with WWE Champion AJ Styles during 2016, including defeating him twice with the help of Dean Ambrose. The feud saw Ellsworth receive two shots at the title, one of which resulted in a disqualification victory over Styles. Ellsworth did make it clear that he did not believe the plans were legitimate and that he should not have been champion. Opinion: I don’t think there was any serious consideration..

WWE Signing A New Full Time Producer

Welcome to the team. There has been a lot of upheaval in WWE as of late, with the roster being shifted in a variety of ways. This has included the wrestlers on both the main roster and down in NXT, but that has not been the entirety of the changes. The coaching and production staff has also been turned upside down, but now we know another name who will be joining the ranks. According to Fightful Select, former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion Petey Williams has joined WWE as a full time producer. Williams has been working for the company on a trial basis for several months. It is not clear when he will begin to work full time or which show he will be working on. Williams has wrestled for Impact Wrestling on and off since 2004, winning the X-Division Title twice. Williams was a pretty big deal in Impact Wrestling. Check out his time there: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: W..

Monday Night Raw Date: December 27, 2021 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s the final show of the year and that means it’s also the go home show for Day One. There are a few big stories this week, including the renewal of Miz and Maryse’s wedding vows, but we also get to find out how the Coronavirus outbreak has impacted the roster. Let’s get to it. Here is RKBro for a chat. Riddle, in a party hat, talks about how the team had a good year but Randy Orton won’t read a Christmas card. Orton wants to beat Otis right now to make sure he has a good new year, but Riddle wants to look forward to the future. Next year could see them patent Brogurt! Last week Riddle was thinking about the future and thought he turned into a viper but Orton doesn’t want to hear about it. Instead he asks to see a clip from last week, which has Riddle wondering what Orton means by “production truck”. Anyway, Otis might be non-RKOable, so ..
