So maybe not? One of the biggest wrestling stories over the last year has been the return of several former WWE stars. After multiple years of mass releases, a bunch of the former WWE wrestlers have been brought back into the company. These returning stars have had varying levels of success but now we know a little more about their internal reception with possibly the most important person around. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Interested In Bringing In Two Former World Champions Back in December, a rumor speculated that WWE COO Triple H was unhappy with some of the stars who had been brought back into the company. However, in an update from Fightful Select, if there is any truth to this, WWE officials are downplaying the idea. It is said that even if Triple H were disappointed, he would never make this known, either publicly or privately. The wrestlers were said to be brought back to add depth to the roster, though some, such as Bronson Reed and Johnny Gargano, will be..
Impact Wrestling Date: February 9, 2023 Location: Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee, Florida Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt No Surrender is coming up and most of the card has been set up so far. That includes the World Title match, which has not exactly gotten a ton of hype. Maybe it is because it seems we have another challenger on the horizon, but Rich Swann challenging Josh Alexander isn’t exactly feeling huge. Hopefully they can get some more of it covered this week so let’s get to it. Opening recap. Matt Cardona arrives and says he’s in the main event tonight. He is shown to his private dressing room with champagne and shrimp cocktails, but it turns out this is Joe Hendry’s room. Cardona is shown to a closet instead. No Surrender #1 Contenders Qualifying Match: Brian Myers vs. Dirty Dango They run the ropes to start until Dango armdrags him into an armbar. Myers’ sunset flip is blocked and Dango drops a leg before they head outside. A posting cuts Dango off and of..
NXT Date: February 7, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. We’re done with Vengeance Day and just shy of two months away from Stand & Deliver. It looks like we have a title match set up, as Carmelo Hayes stared down Bron Breakker, who retained the NXT Title in the main event. That should give us a clear path to Los Angeles so let’s get to it. We open with the recap of Vengeance Day. Here are Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes to open things up. Williams talks about how Hayes turned seer Apollo Crews into Stevie Wonder before Hayes brags about his win too. Hayes knows his destiny and there is one man waiting for him. Cue JD McDonagh to cut him off and say Hayes is entitled. While Hayes wants a private room at the club, McDonagh sends people to the emergency room. The match is made for later. Fallon Henley isn’t happy that Kiana James cheated to tin the titles and insists on a rematch. James isn’t sure, so Henley says they’ll tal..
This past week on Raw, WWE presented its 3oth Anniversary show, also known as ‘Raw XXX’. It featured the return of many legends, including Ric Flair, who not only introduced his daughter, Charlotte, but also took time to try to mend some fences backstage. On the latest “To Be The Man” podcast, Flair talked about his experiences at ‘Raw XXX’: On being back at a WWE show: “It was phenomenal. I gotta tell you, I learned more about myself and more about what I’ve missed in the business and what I hadn’t missed in one day because I haven’t been here for a long time. I felt like I was respected. I felt like I was wanted. I felt like I was part of it again. I walked away a better man with a better understanding of who I am as a person and what the business is about.” On apologizing to Becky Lynch: “It started out with me and Hunter talking for about an hour, which is a private discussion, but resolving a lot of issues that have been lingering for a couple years, and then I apologized to ..
So maybe not? We are in a very strange time for WWE as things are moving so fast that it is hard to keep track of everything. The difference this time is that it is at the very top of the promotion, with the future ownership being questioned. That has opened up a variety of options, but now it seems that one of the leading candidates may not be as close to control as expected. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: When Vince McMahon Could Appear On WWE TV Again Earlier this week, a rumor circulated that WWE had been sold to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which planned to take the company private again. However, new reports from Ariel Helwani of BT Sports, Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and Jon Alba of Fite TV say that they have heard nothing of such a sale. At the moment, WWE has yet to comment on the story, though the company has been rumored to look at a sale in recent days. Contrary to reports stating otherwise last night, there is no deal in place at this precise moment for ..
That would be a huge one. There have been all kinds of changes to WWE in recent months and now things are ramping up to a degree that would never have seemed possible. The idea of the company being sold seems a lot more likely than ever before and now there is a rumor circulating that not only has the sale been decided, but it would be one of the most unique situations in wrestling history. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s All Gone Now: More Details On Stephanie McMahon Leaving WWE (Again) To clarify: the following has NOT been verified by WWE or any mainstream news source and is considered a RUMOR at this point: On Tuesday night, Cassidy Hayes of Bodyslam.net posted a report saying that WWE had been sold to the Saudi Investment Fund and would be going private again (meaning there would be no stock holders) under the new ownership. The same was also reported by Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN. However, Sean Ross Sapp said that his WWE contacts “claimed to not know” anything about such a sale...
On the shelf. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know how long they are going to be out of action. An injury can take place at almost any time and put someone on the shelf out of nowhere. That seems to have taken place again, as an AEW is injured and out of action, leaving someone else to take his place in the ring. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: On The Market: Former Multiple Time World Champion Officially A Free Agent AEW’s Matt Hardy has announced that Marq Quen is injured. As a result, Hardy will be teaming with Quen’s Private Party partner Isaiah Kassidy for the time being. Quen responded to the announcement, saying that he will be back in the ring quickly. There is no word on when Quen was hurt or how long he will be out of action. Quen’s most recent match took place on November 30. Since @Marq_Quen is gonna be out of action for a bit, myself & @IsiahKassidy are marching forward. Tonight we team up on #AEWDarkElevation & plan on stealing t..
There’s a big free agent. The wrestling world has expanded in a huge way as there are so many promotions with so many talented wrestlers around the world. That means there are all kinds of stars available for fans to see, which opens up a lot of different options. Now one of those stars is ready to move on elsewhere, meaning there will be quite the resume on the open market. According to PWInsider.com, former NWA World Champion Nick Aldis has announced that he will be leaving the NWA, via a private Instagram video. Aldis said that he has given his notice to the NWA, where he is not happy with the company’s creative direction. He is currently scheduled to face Odinson at Hard Times 3 on November 12, with his NWA contract running through January 2023. There was no word on where Aldis might sign next. Opinion: This is going to make things interesting for a lot of promotions, as Aldis will certainly attract a lot of suitors. He is a talented star who has been a big deal in multiple promo..
Rampage Date: October 7, 2022 Location: Entertainment And Sports Arena, Washington DC Commentators: It’s the first half of a live double shot with a special Rampage. That should make the show a bit more interesting, which is a boost that is rather necessary around here. We have a Trios Titles match tonight, as the previously announced mask vs. career match has been canceled due to reasons of Andrade El Idolo. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Blackpool Combat Club vs. Rush/Private Party Regal calls Excalibur a caramel cheesecake that he would let melt in his mouth. Regal to Jericho: “I’d rather rip off my own eyelids and dip my head in hot soapy water than sit next to you.” The Firm is watching at ringside as Castagnoli takes Kassidy down with almost no effort to start. Yuta comes in as Jericho and Regal argue over how filthy and horrible Blackpool, England is. Kassidy gets sent down again so it’s off to Rush, who spits at Moxley and shakes his hair, which is enough to bring Moxle..
Rampage Date: September 30, 2022 Location: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone Rampage is back to normal this week and that should make for a decent enough show. You never know what you’re going to get around here, though odds are you’ll get at least one important thing. Other than that though, there is a good chance you’ll be seeing some names who aren’t around on Dynamite very often. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Tag Team Titles: Acclaimed vs. Butcher and the Blade vs. Private Party Acclaimed, with Billy Gunn, is defending. Bowens and Kassidy start things off as Matt Hardy is watching in the back. They trade quick one counts as the fans sing in praise of the Acclaimed. A standoff gives us a handshake before Bowens drives Kassidy into the corner for the tag off to Castor. With Kassidy down, Castor stops for some scissoring with Gunn before Bowens comes in for a neckbreaker onto Castor’s knees. Quen comes in and gets a..
There’s a good reason. Wrestling has changed a lot over the years, especially in the last few years. One of the biggest ways has been the rise of social media, as wrestlers are now able to communicate with their fans like never before. This is a great way to interact with the people but not everything works out for the best. That was the situation this weekend when things got a bit weird. Over the weekend, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long went on a blocking spree on Twitter, cutting off a large portion of wrestlers who followed him on the platform. Several wrestlers seemed surprised by the situation and Long changed his account to private. Long later released a video, announcing that his Twitter had indeed been hacked and that he didn’t want anyone to be mad at him. He also promised to explain more about the situation later. Now hold on a minute, playa! pic.twitter.com/Ni6gxWRojn — Samuel Guevara (@sammyguevara) September 25, 2022 I am!! Haha what is this teddy purge about? https://t.c..
He has spoken. Malakai Black took to social media recently and issued a statement regarding his status with AEW, mental health issues, and more. This comes after reports surfaced that he requested and was granted his release from the company. The statement reads as follows: All. Firstly thank you all for your messages, know they are being read and appreciated. With all the turmoil going on in the landscape of Professional Wrestling I took the time to think of my words but also needed to wait until conversations between mine and AEW’s camp had come to a conclusion. Firstly, I dislike reading parts of my private conversations between myself and AEW in regards to my mental well being on the internet. These conversations were private and not meant to be shared with the public. As by now most people realize I am a very private person and do not feel the need to have stuff like this out on the internet. If you’ve been following me longer than a cup of coffee you’re aware I’ve spoken abou..
Yes again, but not too bad. AEW has a very talented roster but the company has been going through a nasty run of injuries in recent months. The company has had one wrestler injured after another and some of the wrestlers have been out of action over and over. That is the kind of thing that can take time to get over but thankfully the most recent injury might not be so bad. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW’s Rey Fenix was injured during the Lucha Bros vs. Private Party match on Rampage. Fenix was injured taking an atomic drop, hurting his ankle in the process. However, Fenix is said to be ok and has since wrestled another match in Mexico since the injury. It is not expected that he will be missing any time from AEW as a result. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that keeps happening in some way in AEW and there comes a point where it isn’t a run of bad luck or coincidences. I don’t know if AEW wrestlers are trying to go too fast or if they need more time in the ring or what,..
Another one down. AEW is in a weird place as the company has been dealing with an incredible series of injuries. That is the kind of thing that can slow anyone down and you never want to see it happen to anyone, but AEW has had one issue after another. Now they have another one on the injured list, though in this case it might not be as bad as some of the others. AEW President Tony Khan has announced that Andrade El Idolo was injured in a match against Rey Fenix three weeks ago. El Idolo has still been able to make appearances, including being ringside this week on Rampage, but has not bee able to wrestle. Following the announcement, El Idolo sent out a tweet saying that he will be back in a week or two and said the injury is nothing serious. There is no word on what kind of an injury El Idolo suffered. He’ll be ringside for Private Party vs Lucha Bros on #AEWRampage on @TNTdrama tonight, he’s been hurt since the classic vs @ReyFenixMx 3 weeks ago. He got @IsiahKassidy & @Marq_Quen t..
Wedding Bells are ringing! According to People magazine, Alexa Bliss married her long-time sweetheart, musician Ryan Cabrera, over the weekend. Their wedding was “very non-traditional,” “rockstar” and self-described as “the s–tshow.” The couple was interviewed two weeks prior to their wedding; below are some highlights: On their wedding venue: “We were like, ‘Oh my God,’ it’s absolutely perfect,” Cabrera said. “It’s absolutely gorgeous and nestled within the mountains. At the bottom, there are vineyards, and behind the house there’s a beautiful lake. It’s just far enough outside of Los Angeles, too.” On coming down the aisle to Cabrera’s song “Worth It:” “I’m just trying to figure out how I’m going to get through this because it’s such an emotional song,” Cabrera said. “I don’t think she understands, because we were talking about doing our vows, and I was like, ‘Maybe we should do it in private.’ I cry a lot! I can’t help it. I’m that guy. It is what it is. I’m emotional, so it’s ..
AEW President Tony Khan was recently interviewed on an episode of Barstool Rasslin’, where he discussed a number of topics. Among them was Cody Rhodes’ departure from the company, signing Samoa Joe, and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On Cody Rhodes leaving AEW for WWE: “Yeah, I think it’s just one of those things where, you know, we couldn’t reach an agreement on going forward. I think he has found a situation that’s good for him, and we’re in a great position right now. There’s no ill will either way,” Khan said. “We’re still friends, and I wish him the best. I think he wished us the best publicly and privately. So it’s all good.” “Any buzz for professional wrestling is great for professional wrestling as long as it’s positive stuff, positive stories. I hope [Rhodes] keeps doing positive stuff and wish him the best,” said Khan. On signing Samoa Joe, others: “Just in recent weeks, Samoa Joe, Toni Storm, Jeff Hardy, Swerve Strickland have all come in, Keith L..
There he is. Wrestlers jump from promotion to promotion fairly frequently these days, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. It can be a lot of fun to see someone show up in a different company, as you never know what they might be doing. Sometimes it is nearly impossible to hide who is going to be showing up though and that was the case again with the latest debut. Jeff Hardy made his AEW debut this week on Dynamite, saving his brother Matt, Sting and Darby Allin from an attack at the hands of Andrade El Idolo, Private Party and the Butcher and the Blade. This came three months after Jeff was released from WWE after walking out on a match at a live event. There is no word on what Jeff will be doing now that he is a part of AEW. Opinion: This isn’t exactly a surprise and that is not a bad thing. Your mileage on the Hardys getting back together again might vary but at least we have gotten to the point and can see their latest reunion. I don’t blame AEW for trying something like t..
Dynamite Date: February 23, 2022 Location: Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, Connecticut Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We are two and a half weeks away from Revolution and that means it is time to start hammering down the card. That could go in a few different ways, which makes this show all the more interesting. One of the spots in the Tag Team Title match will be determined tonight in a tag team battle royal, as opposed to next week when one of the spots in the Tag Team Title match will be determined by a tag team battle royal. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Tag Team Battle Royal Dark Order, Young Bucks, Butcher and the Blade, Best Friends, Private Party, Gunn Club, Santana/Ortiz, FTR, 2.0, ReDDragon There are ten teams in all and both members have to be eliminated. It’s a huge brawl to start, with no entrances, and people fighting in and out of the ring. Blade knocks Alex Reynolds of the Dark Order out but spends too much time posing, allowing John Silver t..
That doesn’t seem to be the best idea. Wrestling is as unique of a form of entertainment as you can get, as the wrestlers are required to make everything look as real as possible while being as safe as possible. That is a heck of a trick, but there are some wrestlers who can cause some very real damage if they need to. It would not be logical to go after them, but that is what took place recently. Brock Lesnar appeared on the Pat McAfee Show this week and told a story of how Johnny Knoxville broke down Lesnar’s hotel room door. Lesnar was in St. Louis for the Royal Rumble and had a private room at his hotel. He was told that Knoxville and the cast of Jackass was there as well, so Lesnar sent over a bottle of wine. Soon thereafter, Knoxville broke down Lesnar’s door so Lesnar came outside and put Jackass member Wee Man through a table. According to Lesnar, none of this was planned in advance. There is a lot here. Check out the full interview: [This post contains video, click to play]..
