One more time? Retirement is a difficult concept for a lot of wrestlers as they can have trouble walking away for good. While several wrestlers will says they are done for good, they often have the chance to come back for one more match. That can make for some interesting circumstances as you get to see someone make a surprise return. Now a WWE legend is teasing the possibility. You’re up next. A long title reign can be one of the most interesting things in all of wrestling, as it opens up the question of who might be the person to take them down. Having a huge title defense can be a lot of fun as you can feel the possibility of a title change. We almost had that again, but things have gotten a little more complicated after a controversial finish. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In: Active WWE Star Announced For Hall Of Fame Class Of 2023 This week on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus won a fatal five way match for the #1 contendership to the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania. Sheamus and McIntyre scored a double pin on Xavier Woods and LA Knight (with Karrion Kross also involved in the match) but no #1 contender was announced. The two argued in the back and later in the show, a match between the two was set for next week with the winner getting the title shot at WrestleMania. This could be big for WrestleMania. That does make sense. Titles are some of the most important parts of any wrestling promotion. They can drive any storyline and identify the wrestlers that the promotion wants to present. A title changing hands can make a huge difference for both a wrestler and the company as a whole, but it can mean even more when one of them goes away. One of the top WWE stars is now explaining why that is a bad thing. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Naomi And Mercedes Mone Appear Together In New Advertisement SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte was interviewed by the Daytona Beach News-Journal and talked about the possibility of unifying the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles. Charlotte said that she was not in favor of unifying the titles, as while it can be special for one woman to have both titles at once, it takes away opportunities for the women. Charlotte is currently scheduled to defend her title against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39. There have been some big title unifications. Check out som..
That could be different. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestler and changing an appearance or character can be a big deal. Occasionally you will see someone get a complete character change, some of which can be quite the boost for a wrestler’s career. WWE is now teasing the possibility of a change, if a new storyline happens to go in the right way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s A Big One: WWE’s Backstage Reaction To Royal Rumble This week on Monday Night Raw, the Alpha Academy was shown walking in front of the Maximum Male Models backstage. After the Academy was out of sight, Maxine Dupree was seen looking at Otis and saying he was “perfect”. While not confirmed, this may suggest that the two teams will be feuding, or that Otis could be undergoing a gimmick makeover. Otis did not acknowledge or seem to hear what Dupree said. This could be interesting. Check out what happened, plus the two teams in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vide..
That would be a return. There have been all kinds of roster changes in WWE in recent months and there is nothing to suggest that they are finishing up. This very well may include the Royal Rumble, where several surprise names are known to show up again after lengthy absences. Now there is a rumor that a former WWE Women’s Champion may be making an appearance. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In For Now: Former WWE Star Set For AEW Debut According to PWInsider Elite, Nia Jax has been rumored for a possible Royal Rumble return. This has NOT been confirmed and is currently seen as just a possibility being discussed. Jax, a former Raw Women’s Champion, was released from the company on November 4, 2021. She has not wrestled since, though she was announced for an independent event in the United Kingdom which never took place. In case you forgot. What also could have been. We are less than two and a half months away from WrestleMania 39 and that means the card is about to start coming together. There are all kinds of things that need to be done, with one of the most important being the matches at the top of the card. A few of them have been rumored, but now we know of another one that would be among the biggest. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Crossover: Former WWE Star Trying His Hand(s) At Boxing Earlier this week, a story broke that WWE had pitched Roman Reigns vs. Steve Austin for WrestleMania. However, according to Wrestling Observer Radio, the match pitched was actually Austin vs. Brock Lesnar. The match has not been made and there is no word on if it will be, though it is still a possibility. Lesnar returned to WWE TV this week on Monday Night Raw, attacking Bobby Lashley. However, there is no guarantee that a match between them will take place at WrestleMania, though it is still a possibility. WOR: Dave Meltzer discusses the ..
Still no. Last week, the wrestling world was rocked by the death of Jay Briscoe in a car accident in Delaware. Briscoe was a reigning Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champion at the time with his brother Mark as part of the Briscoes. The team is one of the most successful of their generation, but they have not been allowed to work for major promotions due to some past comments. Now those comments are causing more issues. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: And The Award Goes To: AEW President Tony Khan Names His MVP Of 2022 On Wrestling Observer Radio, a fan asked about the possibility of Mark appearing on AEW TV following Jay’s death. Dave Meltzer said that the answer is no, though he did say that the answer could change in the future. This continues Warner Brothers Discovery’s edict that the Briscoes not be allowed to appear on AEW TV due to homophobic comments made by Jay on Twitter in June 2011. The Briscoes were a great team. That would be a step. We are in the middle of a series of changes in WWE as it is not clear where things are going. The biggest change seems to be focused around the idea of the company being sold to new owners, which opens a whole new world for the company. There are going to be a variety of changes should that take place, and now we have an idea of a possible huge change. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: A Long Run: WWE Name Departs Company After 25 Years When speaking about the possible sale on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated that WWE premium live events could return to being pay per views. Meltzer pointed to Endeavor (UFC’s parent company) having a series of regular events and then charging for major events. However, this would entirely depend on the Peacock contract, as Peacock pays WWE more than they would be able to make via pay per view. While Meltzer does not think such a change would happen, it would be something that Endeavor, or perhaps another new owner, would co..
Stick around for a bit. AEW has come a long way in a not very long amount of time. The company has not even been around four years yet and already has a history of its own. A lot of this has been built around its inner core of wrestlers, which has remained mostly unchanged since the company started. It is time for one major contract to come up though and now we know a bit more about the situation. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In: AEW Contract Status Of Former WWE Star According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Kenny Omega’s AEW original four year contract was expected to expire at the end of January 2023. However, he is currently advertised for the March 14 Dynamite in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. There is a possibility that Omega has signed a new deal, or that his contract was extended due to Omega missing several months due to injury. Omega is a star in AEW. He has a future? There have been a lot of major stars in wrestling over the years but very few have reached the status of Goldberg. With a mixture of charisma and raw natural strength, Goldberg became one of the biggest stars of the 1990s and has appeared on and off over the last several years. Despite being in his 50s, Goldberg still makes an impact and now we know something about his future plans. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bring Her Over: AEW Stars Thrilled Over Possibility Of Sasha Banks Joining Company Goldberg’s most recent match took place on February 19 at WWE Crown Jewel, where he was choked out by Roman Reigns. During an appearance on ESPN Radio with Max Kellerman, Goldberg said that he wanted to wrestle again, saying that he did not want to go out losing to Reigns. There was no mention of when or where a potential match could take place, or who Goldberg might be facing. Goldberg just told Max Kellerman that he will wrestle again at some point. She would be a big deal. The rise of AEW has led to a variety of stars getting a fresh chance on a new show. It can make a lot of difference to those stars as they might not have had the chance to shine before. That is not always the case though, as some big stars have moved from one promotion to another. Now some people are excited about another possible jump. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Gillberg Talks Possible Match With Goldberg: “I’ll Bust Him Up” Earlier this week, news broke that Mercedes Kaestner-Varnado, better known as Sasha Banks, would be appearing at New Japan Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4. According to Fightful Select, some AEW stars believe that this could lead to her signing with AEW. One AEW source said they believed Kaestner-Varnado could be an “anchor” for the women’s division and a likely viewership draw. There is currently nothing to suggest that Kaestner-Varnado will be signing with AEW, leaving this as speculation at the moment. The star power is there. Check out ..
It’s a different way to go. There have been a lot of changes in WWE this year and some of them have been shifts that can move the company into a different direction. Some of these changes have involved a new path for some of the biggest events in the company, with several matches being changed into something new. Now we know a few more details about where things are going. One of the changes that has been mentioned in recent weeks has been a move away from themed premium live events. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the only thing confirmed is that there will be fewer of the events, with no word on what could happen to which events. One likely possibility is that events such as Hell In A Cell will no longer take place, though the match itself probably will somewhere. This is part of Triple H’s attempt to move WWE into a direction different than the one Vince McMahon followed. Opinion: This is more or less what was expected but it is nice to have things a bit more clari..
That would explain some things. You never know when you are going to see a wrestler get injured and be forced to miss a bunch of time from the ring. Unfortunately the question in such a situation is how long someone is going to be out of action, and sometimes there is no answer in sight. This time though, there is a possibility that one injury is keeping two people out of action. Earlier this month, Asuka was injured at the hands of Damage Ctrl, putting her on the shelf. At the same time, Asuka’s partner, Alexa Bliss, has not been wrestling on television but has been wrestling at live events. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a chance that Asuka is dealing with a legitimate injury, which could be keeping her out of the ring. As a result, Bliss is not wrestling on television until Asuka returns. This is not yet confirmed and is still considered speculation. Opinion: That might be a bit of a stretch to figure out why Bliss is gone and I would hope that it isn’t t..
They’re the big ones. WWE runs a lot of events every single year, some of which are bigger than others. Almost every month, WWE runs a premium live event, with a good many of them having long and detailed histories. It can mean a lot when WWE shakes up its special events calendar, but now we might be in for some pretty big changes, including an old classic making its return. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is considering major changes to its premium live events schedule. This would include an annual United Kingdom event, plus a possible return of the King of the Ring. Vince McMahon dropped King of the Ring as a regular show as it did not produce strong pay per view buys. However, thanks to guaranteed money from Peacock and other sources, the results are not as important and the show is a possibility again. King of the Ring did return in 2021, but not as its own event. Opinion: This is one of the perks of having so much income, as it allows WWE to do some fun thing..
It’s a special day. Some of the most important moments in the history of wrestling have taken place on television. Most modern wrestling promotions are built around television, allowing millions of fans to see what has been going on. Watching those shows has become a weekly tradition for years and now the biggest wrestling show in history is setting up for a major milestone. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE has set plans in motion for the 30th anniversary of Monday Night Raw in January, though there is no word on what those plans might be. When Vince McMahon was still in charge of WWE, there was a possibility of the show taking place at the Manhattan Center in New York City but it is not clear if that plan is still an option. Monday Night Raw debuted on January 11, 1993. I’m told plans are in motion for the 30th Anniversary of RAW show coming up in January. Prior to the new leadership taking over, having the show from The Manhattan Center again in NYC was on the tab..
There might be a future in it. Women’s wrestling has come a long way in the last few years, to the point there there is little left that women have not done in WWE. From headlining WrestleMania to having their own Royal Rumble, women have done quite a few things in the company, but now they might be able to do something that they have only done once before a few years back. According to Xero News, WWE has discussed the possibility of holding another Evolution event. The original event took place in 2018 and featured a card comprised solely of women’s matches. However, the show is not considered “priority” and would only be held in summer to late 2023. There is no word on when or where the card could take place or what could be included. Evolution 2 has been spoke about but right now is not considered "priority". If it goes ahead will be summer or late 2023 — Xero News (@NewsXero) October 12, 2022 Opinion: This is something that could work well if WWE goes in that direction, but it..
That would be a change. There are different ways to freshen up a star in wrestling and some of them are rather simple concepts. One of the best ways is to turn someone from bad to good or vice versa, as such a change can freshen someone up almost immediately. It changes everything around and can give a wrestler a different attitude. Now a top WWE star is interested in making such a switch. Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre appeared on NBC Boston’s The Ten Count podcast and discussed the possibility of a heel turn. McIntyre said that if he were to ever turn heel again, he would not want to be the angry big man again. Instead, McIntyre wants to educate himself on who he is and be more interested the second time around. McIntyre was speaking hypothetically and there is nothing to indicate that McIntyre will be turning anytime soon. Opinion: This is something that does seem to be a possibility down the line and it is something that could go well if that is what WWE decides to do. McIntyr..
That would be a different world. There are two major wrestling promotions in the United States with WWE and AEW. The two companies dominate the professional wrestling scene and there is nothing to suggest that will not be the case in the future. Both are extremely well funded and have lucrative television deals. However, a potential change could be on the horizon that could shake everything up. According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC Universal may be considering an attempt to buy Warner Brothers Discovery within the next year and a half. Due to Warner Brothers and Discovery merging earlier this year, no negotiations can officially begin until 2024. Should NBC Universal buy the company, Monday Night Raw (NBC Universal) and AEW (Warner Brothers Discovery) would be under the same umbrella. This is still far away from happening and is still only seen as a possibility. Opinion: Were still far enough away from this that it almost isn’t worth talking about yet, but my goodness this could b..
