It’s part of his thing. There are certain wrestlers who become popular with the fans for one reason or another, but in some cases their popularity rises after they hang up their boots. It can be rather interesting to see what a wrestler comes up once their career is over. This is certainly true with a former WWE star, who now thinks that his gimmick has been stolen by someone who came along later. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: BREAKING: WWE Possibly NXT Women’s Title, New Champion To Be Crowned Former WWE star Virgil has taken to Instagram, announcing that he has been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. He thanked his favorite opponents in the business, including names such as Andre the Giant, Randy Savage and Bret Hart, along with the “million dollar dandy El Dandy”. Finally, Virgil thanked Damage CTRL for allowing him to be their hero and accused the Miz of stealing his gimmick. There is nothing to suggest that WWE has inducted Virgil into the Hall Of Fame. So I guess he’s done? With so many wrestlers on the AEW roster, it can be difficult to figure out a way to stand out. The wrestlers are talented and there are all kinds of people who can do a variety of things, but only a few are able to connect with the audience in a special way. One of the more popular wrestlers with that ability might not be around the company for a little while. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a Face Of The Revolution ladder match with eight stars. Early in the match, Eddie Kingston and Ortiz brawled off with commentary saying they had to be separated. Following the show, AEW aired a video, showing Kingston being interviewed. Kingston’s entire statement was “I quit AEW. Peace.” There is no word on where this is going. That was abrupt. They had a plan for that. We are less than forty days away from WrestleMania 39 and WWE has set up the main event. Cody Rhodes is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, but there is a bit of a wild card in the whole situation. That would be Sami Zayn, who has become one of the most popular stars in WWE. It seems that the company had a way to deal with the situation though and it was on display this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Bringing Back Classic Event This Year This week on Monday Night Raw, Rhodes came to the ring to discuss his match with Reigns but was almost immediately interrupted by Paul Heyman. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this was done to prevent the fans from being able to chant for Zayn. WWE felt that if Zayn’s name dominated the segment, it would diminish Rhodes’ momentum. Reigns defeated Zayn in a title defense at Elimination Chamber. It was a smart moment. Check out the promo, plus Zayn and Rhodes in acti..
Make sure you read the fine print. There are certain segments that you will see used over and over again to build up matches. These things have been used for years to set up matches, some of which are used a lot more often than others. Several of them are used by WWE to this day and now we know a lot more about the very specific details about a popular one. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: DIG IT! Randy Savage’s Rap Album (Yes That One) Is Coming Back In A Special Way This week’s Monday Night Raw saw a contract signing between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley for their Elimination Chamber match. Lesnar had already signed the contract coming in and, after a brawl between the two, Lashley signed the contract as well. The contract could be seen on the show and, according to Fightful Select, this is what the contract said: February 13th, 2023 To whom it may concern, This document shall serve as a legal and binding agreement amongst all parties scheduled for the Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley Match..
It might be a bit. Villains have a tricky job in wrestling, as they have to find a way to make the fans dislike them without being too good at what they do. One of the easiest ways is to take away something that the fans want, which could come in many forms. Occasionally it means having a wrestler not be around for one reason or another, which is what we are seeing again now. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Farewell? New Japan’s Jay White Signals He Is Ready For A New Era, Possible Move Last week on AEW Dynamite, Hook attacked Stokely Hathaway, allegedly injuring his arm in the process. As a result, Hathaway has been wearing a brace on his arm since the attack. This week, Hathaway was talking about wanting justice for the attack when he was told that Hook had been suspended, pending an investigation. There is no word on how long Hook will be missing from AEW TV. Hook is something different. Check out what he has done in AEW: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vi..
That would have been different. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works, as the company allows wrestlers to have a new place to go. After so many years of WWE dominating the landscape, it is a change of pace to have another large scale company around. It has given several wrestlers another place to go and that might have kept a popular wrestler’s career going. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: A Good Sign: How Cody Rhodes Has Been An “Outstanding” Success Since WWE Return Samoa Joe appeared on a recent episode of the Sessions and revealed that he was considering retirement from wrestling after his second release from WWE. Joe had suffered two concussions in short order and was dealing with health issues related to them. He then spent a year and a half doing commentary for WWE, allowing him to heal up and recover before being released for the second time. Joe also praised Michael Cole for the work that he does under such pressure. Joe wrestled for WWE from May 2015 until Ap..
He got it back. Titles are one of the most important things in the wrestling world. A championship is the way that fans figure out who the top stars in the company are supposed to be. In addition, they are often the focal point of major storylines as wrestlers try to win any championships they can. A title change can mean something and now that has taken place again. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: Popular AEW Star Backstage At WWE Royal Rumble The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite saw Samoa Joe defeat Darby Allin in an anything goes match to become the new TNT Champion. The win makes Joe a two time champion and ends Allin’s reign at 28 days, the second shortest in the title’s history. Allin had defeated Joe to win the title on January 4 and had defended the title four times over the course of his reign. It was made clear that there would be no rematches. It was a busy night. Stick to the plan. We are coming up on WrestleMania 39 and the show’s main event has already been set. After winning the men’s Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes became the new #1 contender to Roman Reigns. Their title match has officially been set up, but there is a detail involving someone else on the roster. One other wrestler is rather popular at the moment, but WWE has made up its mind. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: What? Steve Austin Set To Host New Weekly Television Series The angle at the end of the Royal Rumble saw Sami Zayn turn on the Bloodline by attacking Reigns with a chair. The Bloodline then attacked Zayn to end the show. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan is for Zayn to challenge Reigns at Elimination Chamber, which has “been the plan all along”. WWE reportedly does not see Zayn as the face of the company, while Rhodes is seen as someone who could potentially headline WrestleMania. There is nothing to suggest that any changes will be made to the shows’ main events. Thi..
That’s some secret keeping. Wrestling receives a lot of criticism for being planned in advance. There is some truth to that, but at the same time, there is a lot of work and effort that goes into making fans believe that what they are seeing is at least somewhat realistic. Every so often you see a genuine response in wrestling though and that was double the case this weekend. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: Popular AEW Star Backstage At WWE Royal Rumble Last Saturday, WWE presented its annual Royal Rumble event. The show opened with the surprise return of Pat McAfee to the commentary team, ending a four month hiatus. According to PWInsider.com, WWE made McAfee’s return as much of a surprise as possible, with co-commentators Michael Cole and Corey Graves having no idea he would be back. There was also a “quick scramble” to get McAfee a chair and headset. It is currently unknown if McAfee’s return is full time or just for the Royal Rumble. It was a big night. Check out some of the show’s..
He seems to be a fan. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works and it has made all kinds of differences in the industry. For the first time in years, there is another top level wrestling promotion in the United States, allowing more wrestlers to work on a large stage. There is also a bit of a rivalry between WWE and AEW, but now there is at least one AEW star who is a WWE fan. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Last Second Change: Here Is Why Rey Mysterio Missed The Royal Rumble, What Is Next WWE held its annual Royal Rumble event over the weekend, with Cody Rhodes winning the Men’s Royal Rumble match. Since then, a photo has made its way online, showing Rhodes backstage with AEW star Ricky Starks behind him. There is nothing to suggest that Starks was there as anything more than a visitor. Starks has since commented on the photo, saying “they brought back GTV”, referencing a hidden camera storyline from the late 1990s in the WWF. Damn they brought back GTV ? — Ricky Stark..
Welcome back! Commentary is one of the most important parts of any wrestling show as they are there to guide you through the show. The team, or occasionally solo broadcaster, will explain what you are seeing and what you should be noticing. Having the right commentary team is a tricky ordeal to pull off but now WWE has one of its more popular commentators back behind the mic. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Not For Her: Update On Why Ronda Rousey Is Not Working The WWE Royal Rumble Pat McAfee made his surprise return to the WWE commentary team this weekend at the Royal Rumble. Ouch. There are all kinds of injuries in wrestling and you never know when you are going to see someone put on the shelf. These things can come out of nowhere and leave someone out of the ring, which can shake up a lot of plans. It doesn’t matter how big of a star someone is, and that is the case again as a popular AEW star has been injured and a plan has had to be changed as a result. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Almost Over: AEW Star’s Contract Reportedly Expires Very Soon AEW has announced that Britt Baker has suffered an undisclosed injury and is out of action for the time being. They aren’t happy. This week’s WWE Monday Night Raw was a special edition focusing on thirty years of the show. That is the kind of milestone that no wrestling show reaches, especially not as one of the biggest wrestling shows in the world throughout its run. It meant something to be associated with the show and now two legends are taking issue with something that wasn’t involved. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Dem Boy? Update On Mark Briscoe Possibly Appearing On AEW TV The Bella Twins had been previously advertised for Raw XXX but were later removed and ultimately did not appear on the show. The Twins recorded a live Instagram stream after the show was over, talking about how there was little mention of the Women’s Revolution and saying WWE could not mention Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) because she is too popular. There is no word on why the two were pulled from the show. They might have a point. Check out what the Twins said, plus their time on Monday Night Raw: [This post contains video..
That’s an idea. We are rapidly approaching WrestleMania 39 and that means it is time fpr WWE to start getting ready for their biggest event of the year. They need to figure out what all of their top names are going to be doing, which is easier said than done in some cases. Now WWE is having a bit of an issue figuring out what to do with one of its stars, as there might be a bit of a problem. That’s a lot going on. Wrestlers have a lot of difficulties throughout their careers and many of them can be rather complicated to deal with on a regular basis. In some cases that is even more difficult than others, as you will occasionally find a wrestler who has more issues than their colleagues. One suck wrestler is having that kind of a problem and has a good deal to say about it. Let the bidding begin. According to a report from CNBC, WWE has hired JPMorgan to begin the process of selling the company. This is being reported following the news that Vince McMahon returned to the company yesterday. The report states that if a deal occurs, it would likely occur in the next three to six months. In addition, WWE plans to talk to potential buyers before it makes a decision on TV rights renewal agreements. McMahon had the following to stay in a statement: “My return will allow WWE, as well as any transaction counterparties, to engage in these processes knowing they will have the support of the controlling shareholder.” His return doesn’t affect current leadership as Stephanie, and former CAA agent Nick Khan are co-CEOs. However, it remains unclear what type of role, if any, Vince would want at WWE if he sold the company. WWE has told investors that his role is essential in “our ability to create popular characters and creative storylines.” Currently, Vince doesn’t h..
It doesn’t seem to be popular. The biggest wrestling story of the week so far has been Vince McMahon announcing that he is attempting to return to WWE after five months away. McMahon is planning to try to return to the Board of Directors and is threatening to block any media rights deal or sale of the company if he is not allowed. This is going to cause some backlash and it seems to have already begun.
