That’s never good to see. With so many wrestlers on the AEW roster, it can be difficult to keep track of what everyone is doing. There have been several names who have not been around for quite a while, which can raise the question of whether they will ever be back. One such star who has been gone for a very long time may not be around anytime soon due to an injury. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Could Be Awhile: Missing AEW Star Addresses Absence From Company AEW star Paige Van Zant has released a video on Instagram where she says her doctors believe she has broken three bones in her foot rather than the previously thought one. Van Zant is currently signed to AEW but has only wrestled once, winning in a six person match at Double Or Nothing in May and not appearing since. There is no word on when or if she will return to AEW TV. That’s not good. Check out the video, plus VanZant in AEW: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post conta..
It was a special moment. There are a lot of reasons for a wrestler to have to leave the ring earlier than expected, with injuries or medical issues often being near the top of the list. It can be devastating to see someone have to retire early but every now and then, you see someone get to come back to the ring after retirement. Now we are seeing it again and the wrestling world is reacting. This week on AEW Dynamite, Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE, announced that she was cleared to return to the ring and would be facing Britt Baker at Full Gear on November 19. Saraya was forced to retire from the ring in 2018 following a spinal injury, leaving it doubtful that she would ever wrestle again. As a result, several wrestlers and wrestling personalities have thoughts on Saraya’s return to the ring. Maybe later? Wrestling has a long history of athletes from other sports coming in and trying their hands at something else. It has been hit and miss throughout history, with certain sports doing it better than others. Mixed martial arts has some of the better success, but now one of the more prominent fighters turned wrestlers seems to have have dropped wrestling, at least for the time being. Former UFC fighter Paige VanZant has appeared multiple times for AEW over the years, including wrestling a match at Double Or Nothing 2022. However, during an interview with K & S Wrestlefest, VanZant’s trainer Gangrel said that VanZant has stopped communicating with her. Gangrel says that VanZant wrote him and asked for some critiquing of her match but the stopped contacting him. He also said that while she was talented, she did not train as often as he would have liked. There is no word on if VanZant is training elsewhere or has stopped training for the time being. She has not appeared on AEW T..
So she’s in. There have been some great debuts in AEW’s history and some of them have been names that fans have been seeing for years. That can make for some awesome moments, but it also leaves fans wondering what they are going to be seeing in the future. Now we know what the future seems to hold for a recently debuted star and it is a bit of a surprise. Last month at AEW Grand Slam, Saraya, better known as Paige during her time in WWE, made her debut for the company. This led to a question of whether or not she would be able to get physical, as she was forced to retire from the ring in 2018 due to a neck injury. This week on AEW Dynamite, Page got into a fight with Britt Baker before laying out Rebel with a superkick. While not confirmed, this would suggest that Saraya has been medically cleared. Opinion: That is something great to see as you do not want to see anyone forced out of the ring. Saraya is someone who felt like she could be one of the biggest stars in wrestling but had ..
There’s a big one. There are multiple ways to change things up in wrestling and one of the best ways is to have someone make a surprise debut. Having someone show up out of nowhere can make for a great moment. It can be difficult to figure out a way to bring in someone for such a moment but AEW has managed to pull it off with a former major WWE star. Saraya, formerly known as Paige, made her AEW debut this week at AEW Grand Slam. Following Toni Storm retaining her Interim AEW Women’s Title, Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Serena Deeb attacked her. Saraya made the save and invited all of them for a fight but no one accepted. Saraya did not get physical and it is not clear if she will have a match, as she was forced to retire from the ring due to neck injuries. Opinion: That’s a major surprise and it worked as the kind of moment AEW was hoping to have. Saraya is a name that had been rumored for AEW for a long time but it was hard to imagine it actually happening. I’d like to believe she ..
They were talking. WWE has long since been the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that is not likely to change anytime soon. However, for the first time in decades, a well funded promotion has risen up to be the second biggest company and shares some of that big stage. AEW has taken the secondary spot along with some former WWE stars. It seems that they had even tried to pick up another. According to Fightful Select, AEW and former WWE star Paige had some conversations about potentially working together in some capacity. There is nothing to suggest that they reached an agreement, though it is possible that something could change in the future. Paige has retired from the ring due to a series of neck injuries, though she has said that she could wrestle again in a special moment. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that gets a few eyebrows going up but I would be surprised to see Paige getting back in the ring. Paige is a very talented star and was a big bridg..
There’s your reason. Several wrestlers have left WWE over the last few years and it can cause quite the set of issues in the company. Losing that much on-screen talent in so little time can be a big loss, but there are several other names leaving the company without being on screen in a long time. That was the case with a rather prominent name and now we know more about what happened. Earlier this week, Paige announced that she is leaving WWE after a ten plus year run with the company. During a recent Twitch stream, Paige opened up on her departure from the company, saying that WWE decided not to renew her contract rather than her choosing to leave. Paige also said that WWE was respectful and that Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis said they would keep the doors open, though Paige said “that’s usually what companies say.” As a result of her contract not being renewed, Paige does not have a no compete clause, allowing her to debut anywhere she likes when her contract expires on July 7...
It had to happen eventually. Wrestlers have a fairly unique career path, as they rarely have a long time on top. At some point they have to find something else to do and it can often be harder than it seems. If a wrestler gets injured and can no longer get in the ring, their options are even more limited. That seems to be the case again and a longtime WWE star is making her exit. WWE’s Paige has announced that she will be leaving the company on July 7, ending her run that started in 2011. Paige was forced to retire from in-ring competition in 2018 after suffering a second major neck injury, which took place less than a month after her return from over a year away from the ring. Following her injury, Paige served as SmackDown General Manager in 2018. While she has not wrestled in nearly five years, Paige said that she will almost certainly return to the ring, though it is not clear when or where she will do so. The card still has room. AEW does not run pay per view events very often so when they do go on the big stage, it means a lot more than usual. That is the kind of show that everyone wants to be on, meaning the shows are often packed. The same is true with this weekend’s Double Or Nothing, though now AEW has made the show even bigger by adding some more matches to the card. There were two new matches added to the Double Or Nothing card during this week’s edition of Rampage. First up, Darby Allin challenged Kyle O’Reilly to a grudge match after O’Reilly attacked Sting last week. The match was made official later in the show. Second, the Men of the Year and Paige VanZant agreed to face Sammy Guevara/Tay Conti/Frankie Kazarian in a six person tag. If Guevara and company loses, Guevara and Kazarian can never challenge for the TNT Title again. Opinion: I think that’s enough, as we are now all the way to thirteen matches taking place on Sunday night. That is more than enough in the first pla..
There is room for one more. We are less than a week away from AEW’s Double Or Nothing and the card is already stacked. The show has several title and grudge matches already set and there is not much left to do. AEW has set up a lot for the show but there is still room for a little bit more. As luck would have it, AEW has set up another match that would fit on the card and it seems that is what they are going to do. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is planning on running a mixed tag match for Double Or Nothing. The match will feature Tay Conti/Sammy Guevara vs. Paige VanZant and either Scorpio Sky or Ethan Page. Guevara had agreed to the match weeks ago, though the participants were never specifically announced. It is not clear if the match will take place on the Buy In show or the regular show. Opinion: This is a match that would make sends based on what was set up on television, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be on the pay per view. I’m sure the match will work..
Well that was quick. A wrestler making their debut can be a very important moment, but they also have to follow up on it. Just appearing and then doing nothing after it does not work out that well and it can render a good debut useless. There are multiple ways to slow down a new wrestler’s momentum and that might be the case again with one of the newest AEW signings. Earlier this month, Paige VanZant officially signed her AEW contract to become a wrestler. However, she will also be able to continue participating in outside sports, including bare knuckle boxing. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, VanZant has signed for a bare knuckle boxing fight in London on July 9 against an opponent to be determined. This means that VanZant may be taking time away from AEW to train, though it is not known when she might begin her hiatus. Opinion: That is quite the fast move for someone who has only officially been around AEW for a few weeks now. VanZant might not be ready for her first..
What could have been. AEW has brought in several wrestlers throughout its brief history, with several of them coming from different backgrounds. Some of them have not even come from wrestling, which makes can make for some interesting situations. That was the case earlier this month when a mixed martial artist was brought into the fold, but she could have had a very different story. Earlier this month, Paige VanZant officially signed with AEW, following multiple appearances with the company. VanZant appeared on Throwing Down With Renee and Meisha and explained that she had a meeting at WWE headquarters last year about the possibility of signing with them instead. However, WWE had a “different plan” for her, though she did not explain what it was. VanZant said that she was happy that AEW would let her continue with MMA and are knuckle boxing while also wrestling for them. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise for me but it’s probably for the best. At the end of the day, WWE has a h..
History has been made. Titles have been one of the most important parts of the wrestling world for a long time now and that continues to be the case to this day. A wrestler winning a championship is something anyone can understand with ease and it often makes for a rather exciting moment on any given show. That was the case in the main event of one of this week’s shows. The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Scorpio Sky defeat Sammy Guevara to become the new TNT Champion. Sky won the match with his TKO when Guevara was distracted by Paige Van Zant attacking his girlfriend Tay Conti at ringside. The win marks Sky’s first singles title reign in AEW and second championship overall, as he was part of the original Tag Team Champions. Opinion: This is the kind of title change that needed to take place as Sky seems ready to lose the title to Wardlow next week. That is not a bad thing either, as Sky got his win and his title, which are the important things for him in the s..
That could be a success. There is a long history of mainstream athletes crossing over into wrestling. Some of them have made full on careers out of the move while others only pop in for a little while. Mixed martial artists have had a nice bit of success in wrestling, with names like Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey at the top of the list. Now we might be seeing another one trying her hand at wrestling. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured an argument between Dam Lambert and Brandi Rhodes. Lambert said that he would not lay a hand on Rhodes, but he knew someone who would. This brought out Paige VanZant, who got in a pull apart brawl with Rhodes. VanZant had made some appearances with Lambert as part of his American Top Team mixed martial artists. There is no word on when or if VanZant will be wrestling a match. It was a busy night. Check out how the return and brawl went down: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is something that could be interesting, as Va..
There’s a guest star. There are a lot of people working for WWE and not all of them are active wrestlers. Some of them are not around very often but still have a place in the company whenever they are needed. However, sometimes you see a WWE star pop up elsewhere, which was the case this weekend in a situation you might not have expected them to be. This weekend, Zicky Dice’s Outlandish Paradise took place in Canton, Georgia, with Dice vs. Evil Uno serving as the main event. According to Wrestlinginc.com, the show featured a segment between Dice and WWE Hall of Famer Madusa. Dice insulted Madusa, resulting in Madusa bringing up a Twitch video feed of WWE’s Paige. This led to Paige cutting a promo on Uno and telling fans to vote on what kind of match Dice and Uno should have. Uno went on to defeat Dice in a Barely Legal Circus of Evil match. Paige is still under contract to WWE but rarely makes appearances. She was forced to retire from the ring due to a series of neck injuries and ha..
Call it a few reasons? WWE has been shaken up a lot in recent months and that seems like it could continue being the case for a very long time to come. With so many names moving around and being released on a nearly regular basis, it can be easy to forget where some of the wrestlers are. That seems to be the case again, and now we might know why one WWE name is still around. After being forced to retire due to neck injuries back in 2018, Paige has appeared in a variety of roles for WWE. This has included time as an analyst and as the General Manager of SmackDown, but she has not been seen in several months. According to Wrestling Observer Live, Paige is still with WWE but only makes appearances when the company has something for her to do. There is a chance that Paige is still with the company due to WWE wanting to capitalize on her name value or do not want to let her go after her career was ended while wrestling for them. Paige has had a heck of a run with WWE. Check out some of he..
Not done yet? Injuries can take place at any time in wrestling and some of them are a lot worse than others. While there are some which are going to require some ice and maybe a few days off, there are some injuries which can end a career in an instant. Every now and then you see someone make a shocking comeback, and now someone is teasing adding their name to that list. WWE’s Paige has posted an image to Twitter showing her ring boots and the Divas Championship, among other mementos from her career, with a thinking emoji. While not confirmed, this would suggest that Paige is considering a return to the ring. Paige has not wrestled since December 2017 due to a neck injury, which took place less than a month after Paige missed over a year due to other neck issues. There is no word on if WWE would allow her to wrestle again. ? pic.twitter.com/3jbGWn27yP — SARAYA (@RealPaigeWWE) October 11, 2021 It would be amazing to see. They’re doing ok. There have been a lot of changes in WWE as of late and some of them have gone a bit forgotten. Last year, WWE issued a new policy saying that their wrestlers would no longer be allowed to operate third party platforms, including Twitch streams. Instead, WWE would take the accounts over and the wrestlers would receive a portion of the revenue. Several wrestlers were unhappy with this and now we might know why. According to the BBC, Twitch suffered a data breech this week, revealing tons of information about the platform. This includes a list of the income made by several wrestlers, as well as Impact Wrestling’s Twitch channel. The revenue listed covers a period from September 2019 – September 2021 and does not include any sponsorships or donations the streamers might gain as well. Here are some of the amounts, courtesy of Wrestlinginc.com: Paige: $478,224 Zelina Vega: $341,748 Adam Cole: $318,080 Impact Wrestling: $69,140 Tyler Breeze: $43,755 Evil Uno: $35,742 Colt ..
Not so fast? Injuries can be one of the most devastating things in all of wrestling as they can take someone out of action all of a sudden. Some are far worse than others and the very worst can put someone on the shelf for the rest of their lives. However, one interesting trend as of late has been wrestlers returning from career ending injuries. Another wrestler seems to be teasing joining the club. Back in 2018, Paige was forced to retire from in-ring competition due to a series of neck injuries. As a result, her wrestling career was over but she has since returned to various other on-air roles. However, over the weekend, Paige sent out a tweet saying that she was “not done yet”. According to Instinct Culture’s Denise Salcedo, Paige said that she was training for an in-ring wrestling return, but would not be telling anyone when the return would happen so that it could serve as a surprise. Paige has not wrestled since December 2017. I’m not done yet. ?? — SARAYA (@RealPaigeWWE) Augu..
