Former NXT Superstar Retires from In-Ring Competition

Changing roles can be good sometimes. NXT Trainer and Coach Matt Bloom recently appeared on the ‘Real Monster Radio’ show, where he discussed a number of topics. One of them was the status of a former NXT superstar, now turned coach. Bloom had the following to say about Oney Lorcan: “My position now as a head coach, I oversee my coaches,” Bloom said. “I have an amazing staff. So, I gotta give props to those guys. Terry Taylor, Fit Finlay, Robbie Brookside, Norman Smiley, Steve Corino, Alexander Winkler, ‘Oney Lorcan’ Chris Girard, who just recently retired from being in the ring, Johnny Moss, and we have a few UK coaches that are on the cusp of being full-time coaches as well.” You can see the full interview below: [This post contains video, click to play] Lorcan was released from WWE in November 2021 but returned in October 2022 as a coach at the Performance Center. Editor’s Opinion: I always felt bad for Lorcan and his longtime partner, Danny Burch, because I feel like they n..

Former NXT Star Returns To Company In New Role

Back in the fold. There have been a lot of returns to WWE in recent months and those do not seem to be coming to an end. Following Triple H’s return to power in recent months, several former WWE and NXT stars have returned to the company in one form or another. That can make for some very nice moments and now we might be seeing it happen again, at least in the short form. According to PWInsider.com, former NXT Tag Team Champion Biff Busick, formerly known as Oney Lorcan, was back at the WWE Performance Center as a guest coach. The stint is only in a guest role and there is no word on if Busick will be back with the company full time. Busick was released from WWE in November 2021 along with several other wrestlers as part of WWE’s string of releases. Opinion: I’m not sure if Busick is going to be brought back to WWE full time but he is someone with more than enough talent to have some kind of a place in the company. It makes sense to have someone like him back as a coach, even for a s..

Pat McAfee To Wrestle At WrestleMania 38

Now that’s a SHAHT AHT! During his first live interview in 15 years on today’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Vince McMahon invited the host to compete at WrestleMania 38. The invitation was extended due to the former NFL player and Smackdown commentator’s tremendous connection to the WWE Universe. You can see the announcement below: [This post contains video, click to play] McAfee last competed in a WWE ring at NXT Takeover: WarGames 2020. McAfee, along with Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan, and Danny Burch defeated The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish). It is unknown at this time who his opponent will be. Editor’s Opinion: YES! This is awesome! I remember thinking all during the pandemic how absolutely terrific he has been at everything that he has done in WWE. Not only has become the best commentator in the company on Smackdown, but his in-ring work was fantastic and he has earned the right to compete at the Showcase of the Immortals. I have..

You Might Be Seeing Some Released WWE Names Again Soon

See you soon. Over the last year and a half, WWE has released a ton of wrestlers from the company. That is the kind of change that you do not see happen very often in wrestling and unfortunately it cost a lot of people their jobs. While it certainly changes how WWE works, it also changes how other promotions work as well. Now, some of those promotions are able to pick up more than a few new wrestlers as a result. On November 2, 2021, WWE released several wrestlers from their contracts. These wrestlers were on 90 day no compete clauses, which have now expired as of February 2. Therefore, the following names are now free agents and can sign wherever they like, appearing immediately: Keith Lee Karrion Kross Mia Yim Ember Moon Davey Boy Smith Jr. Oney Lorcan Gran Metalik Lince Dorado Eva Marie Nia Jax There is no word on where these wrestlers will appear. Several NXT wrestlers were released on the same day, but their 30 day no compete clauses expired in December. Opinion: This is the k..

205 Live Results – September 24, 2021

205 Live Date: September 24, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph The new (again) 205 Live continues as they have been running three matches a week, plus often dropping the weight limit. Throw in some women’s matches and this show is actually looking like something different for a change. I’m not saying that is going to lead to a good show, but at least it isn’t all the same. Let’s get to it. Xyon Quin vs. Oney Lorcan Lorcan takes him into the corner to start as the fans seem to be behind Quin. Some chops and a ram into the corner don’t do much to Quin, who is right back with a spinning elbow. Lorcan kicks the leg out though and starts hammering away and another shot to the knee gets two. The chinlock doesn’t last long as Quin powers up and strikes Lorcan into the corner, setting up a running shoulder to the ribs. A ripcord forearm knocks Lorcan silly for the pin at 3:17. Result: Xyon Quin b. Oney Lorcan – Ripcord forea..

VIDEO: Stable Splits Up During This Week’s NXT

It was nice while it lasted. Factions and groups have been a part of wrestling for years and that has certainly been the case in WWE as well. The company has come up with all kinds of alliances over its history with some of them being more memorable than others. Almost all of them have to come to an end at some point though and that was the case again this week. The main event of this week’s edition of NXT saw MSK successfully defend their Tag Team Titles against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Following the loss, Lorcan and Burch’s friends Ridge Holland and Pete Dunne came to the ring and attacked the two of them to end the show. This came after Dunne had told Lorcan and Burch to win the titles and take out MSK for good. The four have teamed together on and off for about a year, though Burch missed several months due to an injury. That was a nasty moment. Check out the match and brawl, thoughts from Holland and Dunne and what the team looked like before: [This post contains video, cli..

The Shape Of The NXT Roster Was Shaken Up This Week

There are a few of them. One of the more interesting wrestling stories of the last few weeks has been the changes in and around NXT. Vince McMahon has not seemed happy with what has been going on in his developmental program and some adjustments have been made. There are even more of them to come, and some of the bigger ones might have taken place this week. Multiple members of the NXT roster had some sort of change during this week’s show. First of all, Danny Burch returned to television after injuring his shoulder in March. Burch returned to help Oney Lorcan attack Timothy Thatcher during Thatcher’s match against Ridge Holland, Burch and Lorcan’s former associate. It is not clear when Burch will return to the ring. Next, Carmelo Hayes defeated Odyssey Jones to win the second NXT Breakout Tournament. The win grants Hayes a future title shot against any champion, though he did not make his decision on which champion to challenge. Later in the show, Electra Lopez returned to NXT and a..

Ouch: NXT Star Out Of Action Indefinitely

It could be awhile. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the NXT roster and most of them are incredibly talented. It isn’t easy to make it onto NXT television and it means a lot to get a spot on the show. Therefore, it is kind of sad to see someone losing their spot, but in this case someone is leaving because they seem primed to come back in a big way, at least in theory. This week’s edition of NXT featured a match between Ridge Holland and Timothy Thatcher. Holland won the match, with a brawl breaking out after, involving Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch on Holland’s side and Tommaso Ciampa helping Thatcher. The numbers game got the better of Thatcher and Ciampa, with Holland hitting Thatcher in the arm with his baton. Holland also hit Thatcher in the throat, which left Thatcher down. NXT has since sent out a tweet saying that Thatcher will be out indefinitely due to the attack. There is no word on when Thatcher will return to NXT TV. MEDICAL UPDATE: Timothy Thatcher is out i..

VIDEO: Long Awaited Surprise Return Takes Place On NXT

Welcome back. Every now and then you see someone put on the shelf for one reason or another. Wrestlers are going to have issues at some point in their career and it is going to cause them to need some time away from the ring. One of the most common is a wrestler getting injured, as it could happen to any wrestler at any time. Thankfully that is often followed by a return, which took place this week. Ridge Holland returned to NXT television this week, marking his first appearance since October 2020. Holland interrupted the opening tag team match between Oney Lorcan/Pete Dunne vs. Timothy Thatcher/Tommaso Ciampa, helping Lorcan and Dunne win. Following the match, Holland joined Dunne and Lorcan in attacking Ciampa and Thatcher. Holland had been on the shelf for nine months due to a leg injury suffered when Lorcan dove on him during a brawl. Holland is going to be a player. Check out his return plus what he did before the injury: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post c..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – July 27, 2021

NXT Date: July 27, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph Things got serious around here last week as NXT Champion Karrion Kross attacked William Regal to close the show. Samoa Joe is ready to destroy him as a result and that is all this needs to be. We are less than a month away from Takeover and that means it is time to start getting the card ready. Let’s get to it. The opening video recaps the end of last week’s show, as Karrion Kross left William Regal laying. Tommaso Ciampa/Timothy Thatcher vs. Pete Dunne/Oney Lorcan Thatcher and Dunne get things going with neither being able to get very far on the mat. Ciampa and Lorcan come in with Ciampa grinding on a headlock. A shot to the face knocks Lorcan outside and it’s more beating back inside. Ciampa wants Dunne, who comes in and blasts him with a clothesline. Everything breaks down for a second with Ciampa and Thatcher pounding away with forearms to the chest. ..

Good News On Injured NXT Star’s Recovery

Road to recovery. One of the few constants in all of wrestling is being vulnerable to an injury. No matter how good or trained someone might be, there is always the chance that they could get hurt. It might even be due to a fluke accident, which can make things all the more dangerous. Some injuries can be a bit more devastating than others, but now a wrestler is on his way back from a long time on the shelf. According to PWInsider.com, NXT’s Ridge Holland has been working especially hard at the Performance Center to return from his injury as soon as possible. He has received praise for his attitude and work ethic to recover from his injury. Holland suffered a left ankle dislocation, a right knee dislocation and a patella tendon rupture in a fight with Oney Lorcan last October. There is no word on when he will be back in the ring. Holland is a British wrestler and a former rugby league player who signed with WWE in 2018. He began his career in NXT UK before moving to NXT in 2020. Holl..

VIDEO: Surprise Return Takes Place During NXT

Welcome home! NXT has come a long way in a very short amount of time. Over the hast few years, the promotion has gone from little more than filler programming on WWE.com to one of the biggest wrestling shows of the week. The show airs in prime time on the same network as Monday Night Raw, so a big moment on the show means a lot to the fans. That is the case again this week. Bobby Fish made his return to NXT television this week, saving Kyle O’Reilly from a double team attack by Pete Dunne and Oney Lorcan. After O’Reilly and Fish cleared the ring, the two agreed to go their own ways as they both had their own scores to settle. The two were on good terms though and showed respect to each other. This was Fish’s first appearance since TakeOver: WarGames in November. Fish and O’Reilly were part of the Undisputed Era from 2017-2021 and won the NXT Tag Team Titles multiple times as part of the team. During his absence, the Undisputed Era split up, with Fish not being present for the split. ..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – December 23, 2020

NXT Date: December 23, 2020 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Winter Park, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph It’s the Christmas show as we have A Very Gargano Christmas. That’s special enough, but this show is also not up against Dynamite due to an NBA game so it should be interesting to see what they have on their own. We do have a title match tonight as the Tag Team Titles are on the line in a street fight. Let’s get to it. Tag Team Titles: Killian Dain/Drake Maverick vs. Oney Lorcan/Danny Burch Lorcan and Burch are defending in a street fight but Dain and Maverick jump them from behind. The champs are in some early trouble but Maverick gets taken down so Dain can be double teamed. We settle down to Dain in trouble in the corner but managing to backdrop Burch onto a pair of chairs. Maverick comes in without a tag to trip Lorcan down and Dain slams him onto Lorcan for a bonus. Dain hits a running boot in the corner to Lorcan and takes him to the floor, ..

NXT Date: August 5, 2020 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, Beth Phoenix, Tom Phillips We’re coming up on Takeover and that means it is time to continue with the series of triple threat matches on the way to the North American Title match. Tonight it’s Ridge Holland vs. Damian Priest and Oney Lorcan. We probably need to set up some more stuff for the card and we might get there tonight. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Opening sequence. Dakota Kai vs. Rhea Ripley The winner gets Io Shirai for the Women’s Title at Takeover. Ripley starts fast with a dropkick into the corner and the big shoulders to the ribs. A wheelbarrow faceplant puts Kai down again and Ripley pounds her down in the corner again. Ripley grabs a bodyscissors for a bit before blasting her with a clothesline for two. They head outside with Ripley electric chair dropping Kai face first onto the apron. We take a break and come back with Kai hitting a pump kick to the face f..

205 Live Results – May 22, 2020

205 Live Date: May 22, 2020 Location: WWE Performance Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Byron Saxton, Corey Graves We’re back with another edition of the show that continues to exist. The Cruiserweight Title tournament is starting to come to a close and that means absolutely nothing around here, as tends to be the case. Hopefully we can get some good action around here, because it’s not like anything matters when it comes to stories. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Oney Lorcan/Danny Burch vs. Ever Rise Burch and Martel lock up to start but a cheap shot from the apron lets Parker come in to hammer him down. A leg trip lets Burch take Parker over to the corner so Lorcan can get the tag. The rapid fire uppercuts set up the half crab that gave them the win on Wednesday but Martel sends Burch into them for the save this time. Lorcan gets taken into the corner for the alternating beatdown, setting up the snapmare into the chinlock. That’s broken up and a running Blockbuster allow..

The Small Ones. New Title Match Set For Clash Of Champions.

From the purple crew. Clash Of Champions is coming up pretty soon and that means that WWE needs to get some more of the card together pretty fast. This week has already seen a few matches announced for the show, but with so many titles floating around WWE, there is almost always one more thing that needs to be set up. One of those was taken care of on Tuesday night. On this week’s 205 Live, Humberto Carrillo defeated Oney Lorcan to become the new #1 contender to Drew Gulak’s Cruiserweight Championship. Lorcan has spent several weeks chasing the title but lost in his title shot against Gulak at Summerslam. Carrillo has also been positioned to get a shot at Gulak, though this will be his first title shot of any kind in WWE. They beat each other up pretty well. Check out the match: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: There were only two options to challenge Gulak and Carrillo was one of them. WWE has made him feel like a bigger deal over the last few weeks and as he an..

205 Live Results – March 12, 2019

205 Live Date: March 12, 2019 Location: Nutter Center, Dayton, Ohio Commentators: Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness, Aiden English The tournament season continues around here with the final four of the Cruiserweight Title #1 Contender tournament. In this case, there aren’t exactly a ton of great options but that’s the case with a lot of the title scene at the moment. Cedric Alexander is probably the favorite to win the whole thing, as tends to be the case, but bigger surprises have happened before. Let’s get to it. We open with Drew Gulak for a change. He loves tournament semifinals because it’s where you separate the men from the boys. In other words, it’s the round where Tony Nese collapses under the pressure. Drew owns him and tonight will be no different. Nese knows that Gulak is different than anyone else on the roster because Gulak will dissect every mistake that Nese makes. His focus is his best asset and Gulak knows nothing about him. Oney Lorcan says this is all business and he..

205 Live Results – March 5, 2019

This is the kind of show that is far better when they go with straight wrestling and minimal storytelling, which is what you get in a tournament setting. Tonight we get the second half of the first round, meaning we’ll be down to four by the end of the night. Let’s get to it. Drake Maverick does his usual recap/preview. Opening sequence. Video on Oney Lorcan, a surprise entrant in the tournament. He’s been on 205 Live before, albeit in a one off appearance the night after Wrestlemania 33.
