Championship Dropped In The Trash On Monday Night Raw, Possibly Finished

That’s it? There are a lot of titles under the WWE umbrella and some of them are among the most well known championships in all of wrestling. It means a lot for a wrestler to win one of them but it can also mean a lot for someone to lose it as well. This time though, someone seemed to have lost a title, though not in the traditional way. She might even be happy about it. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross defeated Dana Brooke to become the new 24/7 Champion. Later in the night, Cross was seen walking backstage where she threw the title in the trash without saying anything. While not confirmed, this could suggest that the title is being dropped, possibly as a call back to the WWF Women’s Title being dropped in the trash on Monday Nitro in 1995. The title had been active since May 2019. Opinion: At the end of the day, the 24/7 Title has been around for about three and a half years but it has lost a lot of steam in recent months. The title is almost never seen on WWE TV and is r..

Update On Debuting AEW Star’s Status

Maybe later? There are a lot of wrestlers who move in and out of the AEW locker room. The company has brought together all kinds of stars from present and past days, making quite the mixture of available names. Sometimes they need to bring in some fresh stars, but that is not going to be the case at the moment, as it seems a recent appearance was a one off. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Johnny Elite (Morrison/Nitro) appear as the Joker in the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. Elite lost to Samoa Joe in the first round in his AEW debut. According to PWInsider.com, Elite has not signed a deal with the company, meaning that at the moment, this seems to be a one off appearance. However, the two sides may be open to another appearance in the future. Opinion: This is the way I like to see things, as Elite was a nice surprise but not exactly a game changer. He came in, had a good enough match with Joe, and then left without really disturbing anything. That is how something li..

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – May 18, 2022

Dynamite Date: May 18, 2022 Location: Fertitta Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone It’s Wild Card Wednesday, meaning we find out the two Joker entrants in the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments. Other than that, we have two Dynamites left before Double Or Nothing and that means it is time to start hammering out a few more matches on the card. Most of the show is already set though and that can make things all the more interesting. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Owen Hart Foundation Tournament First Round: Samoa Joe vs. ??? Non-title and the joker is….Johnny Elite (Nitro/Morrison). Feeling out process to start as Joe doesn’t seem overly impressed. Joe knocks him into the corner for some shots to the ribs, followed by an elbow to the face. Some shots to the face have Joe in a bit of trouble though and Elite knocks him to the floor, setting up the big twisting cannonball to take Joe down again. We take a break and come back with Joe hitting a big..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – March 17, 1997: The NWO Does St. Patrick’s Day

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Nitro #79 Date: March 17, 1997 Location: Savannah Civic Center, Savannah, Georgia Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Larry Zbyszko, Bobby Heenan It’s the night after Uncensored and the big story is that Sting has declared his loyalty for WCW by attacking the NWO to close the show last night. At the same time though it’s not all good for the purple and gold (WCW for you young people out there) as the NWO won the main event last night, basically giving them unlimited power in the company. There are ele..

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Monday Nitro #180 Date: February 22, 1999 Location: Arco Arena, Sacramento, California Attendance: 13,921 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We’re FINALLY past SuperBrawl and things couldn’t be much lower for WCW if they handed all the wrestlers shovels and told them to dig their own graves. Hogan is still World Champion, Windham and Hennig are Tag Team Champions, Scott Hall is US Champion, Scott Steiner is TV Champion, and Rey Mysterio doesn’t have a mask. We’ve got three weeks ..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – February 26, 2001: They’re Getting Close

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Monday Nitro #284 Date: February 26, 2001 Location: Lakefront Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson We had a pretty good show on Wednesday so maybe we’re in for something a bit better than usual this week. The big story is Diamond Dallas Page as the latest great hope against the Magnificent Seven and at least the big match should be better than the mess of Steiner vs. Nash. Let’s get to it. We open with Kronik having been laid out in the back and Doug Dillinger accusing Totally ..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – December 4, 2000: The Legs Are Going

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Monday Nitro #272 Date: December 4, 2000 Location: Pershing Auditorium, Lincoln, Nebraska Attendance: 3,433 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Scott Hudson Starrcade is rapidly approaching and WCW is clearly on its (final) last legs. We’re building towards a double main event of Goldberg vs. Lex Luger II and Scott Steiner vs. Sid for the World Title. If you need a better reason than that to explain why WCW is in the shape it’s in, you haven’t been paying close enough attention. Let’s get to it. We open wi..

KB’s Review: Friday Night Highlights

This week is a mixture of two fairly opposite things. First of all, I was out for my walk tonight with my music on and the theme from Friday Night Lights came on (excellent show if you’ve never seen it). That got me thinking about last Friday, when AEW and WWE went head to head (or at least close enough to it), giving us a bit of the old Monday Night Wars (on Friday, minus the war) vibe. At the same time, my wife’s *CENSORED*th birthday is this coming Saturday, which had me thinking about the things that have happened over the course of her life. Since I can’t go that long without thinking about wrestling, I started to combine the two ideas and started wondering something: how many fans have never seen WWE with anything close to wrestling competition before? I’m thirty three years old and the Monday Night Wars began when I was seven. Now given that I have yet to miss an episode of Monday Night Raw and never missed an episode of Monday Nitro, I remember the Monday Night Wars fairly we..

WATCH: Very Special Guest Announced For Halloween Havoc

It’s been done. Wrestling is a unique form of entertainment, as it exists in its own bubble, with a unique presentation that makes it feel different than anything else. It is rare to see wrestling cross over with over forms of entertainment, but it certainly can make for some unique situations. That is what we are going to be seeing again next week in a bit of corporate synergy. The USA Network has announced that Chucky, the doll from the Child’s Play franchise, will be guest starring on the October 26 Halloween Havoc special edition of NXT. There is no word on what Chucky will be doing on the show. This will be the second time that Chucky has appeared on a wrestling show, as he appeared on WCW Monday Nitro on October 12, 1999. This is something different. Check out the announcement, Chucky’s time on Monday Nitro and what to expect from Halloween Havoc: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

REVIEW: Monday Nitro – September 4, 2000: The Horror

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Nitro #259 Date: September 4, 2000 Location: Reunion Arena, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Jeremy Borash, Mark Madden This is a special (kind of) show for me as I remembered hearing about WarGames 2000 on Thunder and wanting to see it. Being a moron of twelve at the time, I stayed home to watch that while Monday Night Raw was taking place ten minutes from my house and a buddy of mine had an extra ticket. To this day I can’t explain what I was thinking. Let’s get to it. On a side note: this is ..

REVIEW: Monday Nitro – September 27,1999: The Mediocre Old Days

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Nitro #210 Date: September 27, 1999 Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia Attendance: 11,919 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan It’s time to continue into this downward spiral that Nitro has become. Tonight they have a major six man tag with Hogan/Hart/Flair teaming up to face Luger/Sting/Page. Keep that in mind. This is one of the few times that the show has set up a major match a week in advance and actually hyped it up. I’ll come back to that later. Let’s get to it. We open with Hogan arriv..

REVIEW: Monday Nitro – May 29, 2000: Ric Flair Turns 16

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Monday Nitro #245 Date: May 29, 2000 Location: E Center, Salt Lake City, Utah Commentators: Scott Hudson, Mark Madden, Tony Schiavone So Kevin Nash is World Champion again after winning a triple threat match over Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner last week on Thunder. Jarrett had been awarded/won the title (it’s still not clear) two days before after Ric Flair had it vacated earlier tonight after winning it the week before. That’s about a fourth of the title changes this year and that’s all you need to know about WCW..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – March 8, 1999: An All Time Mess

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Monday Nitro #182 Date: March 8, 1999 Location: Centrum, Worcester, Massachusetts Attendance: 10,856 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schaivone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We had to get to this one eventually. I’ve heard warnings about this show for a long time now and even though I’ve seen it more than once before, the idea that this was allowed to make air still baffles me. It’s the go home Nitro before Uncensored, meaning this is the big show to get people to buy the pay per view. Let’s get to it. Video on the cag..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro Extra: It’s Free!

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Monday Nitro Extra Date: November 24, 1998 Location: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Larry Zbyszko, Bobby Heenan This is a special one hour episode on a Tuesday. I guess three hours a week isn’t enough for all of the AWESOME action that you get on a Nitro so we get a bonus tonight. Hot dog indeed. Anyway there aren’t any announced matches and Tony just casually mentioned this so I can’t imagine it’s going to be much to see. Let’s get to it. Nitro Girls. Scott Norton..

Interesting New Poll Explores Why Wrestling Fans Quit Watching

That explains things. The Wednesday Night Wars have been an interesting study to follow as NXT and AEW Dynamite have been going head to head once a week. Fans have been curious to see which show draws the higher audience and ratings. That was the case during the original Monday Night Wars from 1995 until 2001, when Monday Night Raw defeated Monday Nitro. That was a long time ago, and things have changed a good bit. Now we may know why. There is no secret to the fact that the television audience for wrestling has gone consistently down over the years. The Monday Night Wars saw millions of fans watching the shows at once, while now it is rare to see anything other than Monday Night Raw or SmackDown regularly draw over a million fans. There is something to be learned there, and someone has tried to find out why. YouGov has released a poll, courtesy of the Variety Intelligence Platform, which looked at why wrestling fans have stopped watching. The poll was conducted with 471 people over ..

WATCH: John Cena’s nWo Entrance Video

He really is 4 life. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show what the entrance video would be if John Cena was in the nWo. This is in response to a portion of the Firefly Funhouse match between him and Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36. You can see the video in its entirety below: From WWE.com: Yet, When Cena swung the chair, Bray vanished, reappearing moments later on the set of WCW Nitro. Now portraying Eric Bischoff, Wyatt introduced “the coolest guy who ever walked the earth,” and Cena entered the scene in a New World Order black-and-white T-shirt, strumming a spray-painted WCW Title like Hollywood Hogan in the late 1990s. Editor’s Opinion: This match was absolutely brilliant. As I mentioned before, this type of match as changed the history of what professional wrestling could be, bending reality and creating fantasy scenarios for the hardcore wrestling fans. Could you imagine John Cena in the nWo in the 1990s? Holy cow, that would have been a game-c..

There Is A Chance. This Dream Match Could Still Take Place.

So you’re saying there’s a chance. The Monday Night Wars were one of the most exciting times in the history of professional wrestling. The battle between Monday Night Raw and Monday Nitro became a war among the fans over which company was better. That often meant a comparison of the rosters, with various dream matches being discussed. One of them never came to fruition, but it might not be dead just yet. Sting was a guest at the Liverpool Comic-Con earlier this month and was asked if he would ever come out of retirement. Sting said that he would, though the only possible way would be for a match against the Undertaker. He said that he was hoping for the match to happen during his run with the company in 2015 but the schedules just didn’t click. At the same time though, Sting says that he does not regret the match never happening. Sting officially retired in 2016 after wrestling a handful of matches for WWE. There is no word on if WWE or Undertaker has any interest in the match taking ..

Watch: Sting’s WCW World Championship Victories

The Icon has that name for a reason. WWE has posted a new video to their YouTube channel in which they show all of the televised WCW World Heavyweight Championship victories by Hall of Famer, Sting. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] The world title victories are as follows: Ric Flair, Great American Bash, 1990 Lex Luger, Superbrawl II, 1992 Ravishing Rick Rude, Spring Stampede, 1994 Vader, Slamboree, 1994 Hollywood Hogan, Starrcade 1997 Hollywood Hogan, Superbrawl VIII, 1998 Diamond Dallas Page, Monday Nitro, 1999 Hulk Hogan, Fall Brawl, 1999 Editor’s Opinion: Watching this video brought back a lot of memories. I remember hearing Jim Ross call matches for WCW back when I was growing up, and understanding what I do now about professional wrestling, it still brings back a great deal of nostalgia. Sting was always one of my favorite WCW superstars, and it’s cool to see WWE acknowledging his accomplishments and I hope that they do ..

Jarek 1:20: The Power of Magic Is Alive and Thriving in Michigan Native

Never did you expect to see the finesse of magic combined with wrestling in magic to thrive as it does in Michigan native Evan Cloyd, known to wrestling fans as Jarek 1:20. We had the opportunity to interview Jarek and being fans of his work over the independent circuit, we knew we had to secure an interview with him after he participated in a recent WWE tryout, even going so far as to make it to the official WWE YouTube channel on a video where he was showcasing his magic skills. Here is the interview: Hey Jarek, we are glad to have you with us today. How old were you when you first started watching wrestling? What were a couple of your favorite memories or moments? I was 8 years old when I was playing soccer in my neighbor’s backyard on a chilly Michigan day. Our other friend was wearing a bright orange ski mask, when my buddy, Corey said, “Oh you look like Rey Mysterio!” I asked who that was, they told me about wrestling – and that night Nitro and RAW were on, I turned on WCW an..
