She’s In: Former WWE And Impact Wrestling Star Makes Surprise AEW Debut

She’s in. There are a lot of talented wrestlers in the world today and several of them are able to be seen on national television on a regular basis. It can mean a lot for someone to get their chance on a bigger stage and occasionally that is exactly what you get to see. It was the case again this week, as a former WWE star made their official AEW debut with a target already in sight. Cargill retained her title over Nicole Matthews in less than a minute, but after the match Taya Valkyrie debuted and attacked Cargill’s associate Leila Grey. Valkyrie is a former NXT star, where she wrestled under the name Frankie Monet, as well as a former Knockouts Champion. Dodge City Center, Pembroke Pines, Florida Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan It’s the go home show for Hard To Kill and since Impact does their pay per views on Fridays, the show is tomorrow night. AEW President Tony Khan Issues New Rule Regarding Releases

That is pretty cut and dry. Over the last three plus years, AEW has gone from an idea to the second biggest wrestling company in the world. As a result, there are now several more spots available for wrestlers to show what they can do on a bigger stage. This certainly has its advantages, but it does not mean that everyone on the roster is pleased. Now management is taking some steps to keep people around. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW President Tony Khan has issued a new edict saying “nobody’s getting released”. This comes amid rumors of WWE contacting several AEW wrestlers with the hopes of them requesting their releases and coming back to WWE. Rumored names include Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews, though Black has denied the rumors. Opinion: This is a tricky one as while the wrestlers do want out of AEW, they also signed contracts saying that they would be around. That only leaves so much room for negotiations or an attempt to get out and I’m not sure how well that is..

Another Star Possibly Gone From AEW

Catch you later? There are a lot of talented wrestlers on the AEW roster but there is only so much television time to go around. As a result, it can be rather difficult to find a way to keep everyone on television on a regular basis. That will continue to be a problem until there are fewer wrestlers or more television time and now we might be seeing one of the problems lighten up a bit. According to Fightful Select, Buddy Matthews may be either out of AEW or going away for the time being. His pinfall loss to Sting on Rampage is reported to be the way AEW will write him off of television. This comes after Matthews was said to have been upset over how he was used in AEW for the last several months. Injury Update After Scary Crash On AEW Rampage

That could have been worse. Injuries are one of the worst things that you can see in wrestling and unfortunately you never know when someone is going to get hurt. Something can just happen out of nowhere and result in someone being put on the shelf. At the same time though, sometimes something looks a lot worse than it is, which thankfully is what happened here. This week on AEW Rampage, the Great Muta made a surprise appearance and saved Sting from the House Of Black. Muta sprayed mist into Buddy Matthews’ eyes, sending him into Julia Hart, who was knocked off the apron and through a table. Hart mostly missed the table, which did not fall down and only had a small piece knocked out. Both Hart and her stablemate Brody King announced on Twitter that Hart (and her hat) are fine. Rampage Date: September 24, 2022 Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York City, New York Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho It’s the biggest Rampage of the year as we are in New York City for a stacked two house show. The card is headlined by a battle royal (shocking I know) for the #1 contendership as we have a title shot to get through before Full Gear. Other than that, there are a bunch of grudge matches so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. House Of Black vs. Sting/Darby Allin No DQ and Sting/Allin pop up behind the House (Brody King/Buddy Matthews with Julia Hart) during their entrances to start the fight on the stage. The bell rings and they fight to the ring with the House taking over without much trouble. Sting gets surrounded but manages to fight them both off, only to be driven hard into the corner. WATCH: Great Muta Makes Surprise AEW Appearance, Helps Sting

Now that’s a cameo. There are certain pairings in wrestling history that work so well that people will talk about them years if not decades later. That is the kind of thing that can make for a very fun moment when it is referenced years later, especially if it is done well. Another such moment took place this week, as a pair of rivals from decades ago had a stunning reunion. This week’s AEW Rampage featured a No DQ match between Sting and Darby Allin against the House of Black. During the match, Sting was in trouble when the Great Muta appeared to save him from Buddy Matthews. Muta took Mathews down with a dragon screw legwhip and sprayed him with mist, allowing Sting to get the win. Later in the night, Pro Wrestling NOAH announced that Sting will be part of Muta’s final match on January 22. This was awesome. It Keeps Going: Even More AEW Stars Out Of Action With Injuries

Add them to the list. There have been a variety of injuries throughout wrestling in recent weeks and some of them have been a lot more serious than others. AEW has been hit rather hard by the injury bug and unfortunately it seems that things are going to be worse. There are multiple new names on the injured list, plus one more wrestler who is working through an injury. This week on AEW Dynamite, Stokely Hathaway announced that Red Velvet has suffered an undisclosed injury and will be out of action. In addition, the Bunny has announced that she is also dealing with an undisclosed injury and has not wrestled since April 20. AEW Announces The Introduction Of A Brand New Title

Put something on the line. There are all kinds of titles in wrestling and some of them are rather prestigious. Fans have seen and heard of these titles for decades and some of them have been held by some of the biggest names in wrestling history. Every title has to come from somewhere though, and now another one is coming into existence, with a bit of a unique twist. The All Atlantic Title was announced this week on AEW Dynamite. The title represents the countries where AEW television airs, with a tournament to crown the inaugural champion consisting of international stars being announced. The first champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door in a four way match. Rampage Date: May 20, 2022 Location: Fertitta Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Taz, Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Ricky Starks We are less than two weeks away from Double Or Nothing and now it is time for the card to really get hammered home. This time around, that only includes one Owen Hart Tournament match, which seems like a drop compared to recent weeks. The Blackpool Combat Club is here though so let’s get to it. House Of Black vs. Dark Order/Fuego del Sol Black has no time for Evil Uno to start so it’s off to Fuego, who gets taken down into a kneebar. Matthews comes in and stomps away but Fuego gets over to Uno to pick up the pace. Black tags himself back in though and the House cleans itself as we take a break. Back with 10 cleaning house but he can’t get the full nelson. WATCH: WrestleMania 38 Rematch Takes Place After Monday Night Raw

There is more to it than that. WWE presents a lot of wrestling content every week, including three hours every Monday night with Monday Night Raw. That means you are going to see a lot of wrestlers on any given show, with some of them often appearing more than once. This was the case this week, as two stars got to do even more after the show was over. The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw was a Champions Contenders match between Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Asuka. Belair won when Becky Lynch interfered, followed by Lynch attacking Asuka to end the show. The post show dark match saw Belair defeat Lynch to retain her title with the KOD. Belair defeated Lynch to win the title in the same way at WrestleMania 38. Rhea Ripley Reveals Possible Relationship With AEW Star

That’s a heck of a trick. There are a lot of perks that come with being a professional wrestler, but having a lot of free time is not one of them. Wrestlers are not able to spend a lot of time doing things that are unrelated to wrestling and that makes a professional life more complicated. This is especially true when it comes to relationships with someone outside of the business. A WWE star has found a way around that, but it is still not the easiest concept. A fan recently asked Rhea Ripley what AEW’s Buddy Matthews had that she didn’t have. Ripley responded by saying “me”, suggesting that Matthews and Ripley are in a relationship. So far, Matthews has not made any comment on his possible relationship with Ripley. Matthews was released by WWE on June 2, 2021 and he made his AEW debut on February 23, 2022. He’s a new one. The rise of AEW has allowed for a lot of new things, but one of the most important is a new high level platform for wrestlers to work on. After about twenty years of WWE being the only place to go, AEW has allowed for things to be shaken up. Several wrestlers get a new place to go and that was the case again last week. Now we know a little more about him. Last week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw the debut of Buddy Matthews, formerly known as Buddy Murphy in WWE, who joined the House of Black. According to Fightful Select, AEW began talks with Matthews back in the fall, though it is not clear when the two sides came to an agreement. Impact Wrestling also made a play for Matthews but were unable to land him. You Might Not Be Seeing A Special Grudge Match At AEW Revolution

We might have to wait on that one. AEW has not been around for very long but they have managed to put together one of the best pay per view track records in wrestling history. It is rare for the company to have a major show that is less than great and that makes the announcement of a new one all the more special. AEW will be back on pay per view next month but one match might be missing from the card. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured the debut of Buddy Matthews as the newest member of the House of Black. Matthews helped attack Pac and Penta Obscura of the Death Triangle, including stomping Obsccura’s face into a chair. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is not expected to result in a six man tag between Death Triangle and the House of Black as Rey Fenix will not be medically cleared from his elbow injury in January. Fenix is expected to be out of action for three more weeks, though there is a possibility that he will return to action by Revolution on March 6. Opi..

He’s new. There have been a lot of movements around the wrestling world, with several prominent wrestlers jumping from one promotion to another. That can make for some very interesting moments as you don’t know when someone is going to show up. It is especially fun when you might get to see someone reach a new level of potential, which might be the case again this week. This week on AEW Dynamite, Buddy Matthews made his debut in an attack on Pac and Penta Obscura. Matthews helped the Kings of the Black throne attack Pac and Obscura, seemingly joining the House of Black in the process. Matthews is formerly known as Buddy Murphy in WWE, where he is a former Cruiserweight Champion. Black and Murphy feuded during their time together in WWE, which was referenced last week during a House of Black vignette. Welcome to the fold? There are certain things in wrestling that get your attention in a hurry and one of the best things is seeing someone come over from another promotion. This can make for some great moments as someone can make an impact straight out of the box after not being given such a chance elsewhere. That has been the case with several former WWE stars coming to WWE, and now we might be seeing it in three more cases. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, three former WWE stars are likely to come to AEW soon, while a third is a possibility. The two who are expected to be debuting soon are Jeff hardy and Shane Strickland (formerly known as Isaiah Swerve Scott in WWE).
