Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? No Way Out 2006 Date: February 19, 2006 Location: 1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Attendance: 11,000 Commentators: Michael Cole, Tazz For the first time in a long time, we have a pay per view that has my interest. Smackdown has gotten a lot better in a hurry, but they need the big spectacular to make it work. With Wrestlemania coming up, this could be a great way to get the momentum going, and hopefully that’s what happens here. I’m sure Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton and Booker T. vs...
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Best in the World 2018 Date: June 29, 2018 Location: UMBC Event Center, Cantonsville, Maryland Commentators: Colt Cabana, Ian Riccaboni It’s pay per view time and even though I’ve already seen the next TV show, none of that matters as we have a few weeks to spare because of Ring of Honor’s wacky TV schedule. The main event here is a triple threat between World Champion Dalton Castle, Cody and Marty Scurll but the real highlight should be the Young Bucks challenging the Briscoes for the Tag Team Titles..
Dynamite Date: November 2, 2022 Location: Chesapeake Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We are less than three weeks away from Full Gear and just over a month away from Ring Of Honor Final Battle so we are going to be in for some pretty important moments over the next few weeks. The big story coming into this week continues to be MJF, who seems to be teasing one heck of a face turn. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Darby Allin vs. Jay Lethal They start fast on the floor with Allin mounting him and hammering away despite his taped up ribs. The bell rings and they get inside, with Allin hitting a running crossbody out to the floor. Cue Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh with the latter deterring Allin from a dive, allowing Lethal to monkey flip Allin ribs first into the steps. Lethal puts him under the barricade and puts on the Figure Four before kicking at the leg on the apron. A German suplex on the apron rocks Allin and we take a break. Back with L..

King of the Ring 1994 Date: June 19, 1994 Location: Baltimore Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Attendance: 12,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Randy Savage, Art Donovan It’s tournament time and that means it’s not likely to be the most interesting show in the world. On top of that, this is one of the weaker fields they’ve ever had, which makes for a rather dull few hours. Finally, this show is infamous for the commentary, which really was a disaster and a horrible idea. Let’s get to it. Earlier today, Jeff Jarrett ca..

Smackdown Date: May 18, 2007 Location: 1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield It’s the go home show for Judgment Day and I’m not sure what that is going to entail. Everything was shaken up last week when Edge won the World Title from Undertaker, who seems to be going on the shelf. Edge is going to be defending against Batista on Sunday, meaning it’s time for the rapid fire build. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of last week’s cage match, Mark Henry’s return..
I guess he isn’t a fan. There are all kinds of wrestling legends in the world but only a few of them are among the all time names. It is very rare to get to see someone still active into a sixth decade, but we might be seeing that later this year if a rumored match takes place. However, a former wrestling personality is not too thrilled at the idea of a legend getting back in the ring. Earlier this week, news broken that WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, 73 years old, was considering a return to the ring to wrestle a match later this year. Since the announcement, former WCW broadcaster Chris Cruise has contacted the Maryland State Athletic Commission, saying that due to his age and health issues, Flair should not be allowed to return to the ring. There is no word on a response from the Commission. Here are Cruise’s comments, from his Facebook: “Hey you rubes, I screw around here a lot, but this is serious: Ric Flair should not be allowed to wrestle. Some reports indicate he has been worki..
Rampage Date: May 6, 2022 Location: Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Chris Jericho, Excalibur, Ricky Starks, Taz We are on the way to Double Or Nothing and that means it is time to start hammering things down. Therefore, it means we are still wrapping up the qualifying matches for the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments, as they have now entered their third month. Maybe this show can be better than Dynamite though so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Britt Baker/Jamie Hayter vs. Toni Storm/Ruby Soho Rebel is here too. Storm runs Hayter over to start and drives her into the corner to take over. Baker comes in and gets taken down by Soho, who ducks a superkick and rolls her up for two. The villains take over though and we take an early break. Back with Storm fighting her way out of the corner and the double tag brings in Ruby to elbow Baker down. Everything breaks down and Baker’s Pittsburgh Sunrise is broken up but Baker counters Storm Zero into ..
Dynamite Date: May 4, 2022 Location: Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone I’m not sure how but we’re less than a month away from Double Or Nothing. Last week’s show saw the announcement that CM Punk would be challenging Hangman Page for the World Title at the pay per view so at least they have the top match set up pretty far in advance. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Owen Hart Foundation Qualifying Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Fish Adam Cole is on commentary and Matt Hardy and Kyle O’Reilly are at ringside. Fish takes him into the corner to start and kicks away at the leg, setting up a dragon screw legwhip onto the other leg. They head outside with another dragon screw legwhip sending Hardy into the barricade and we take a break. Back with Hardy making a comeback and dropping Fish to go up top. The Swanton is broken up though and it’s the super Falcon Arrow to put Hardy down for two. Fish grabs the kneebar bu..

Best In The World 2019 Date: June 29, 2019 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman, Colt Cabana It’s another pay per view and in this case, the show isn’t looking half bad. They’ve managed to build things up better than usual with television and I’ll take that over what they tend to put together. The main event is Matt Taven defending the World Title against Jeff Cobb because for some reason we deserve Taven as champion around here. Let’s get to it. Kickoff S..
Ring of Honor Date: December 29, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We have finally arrived at what seems to be the last original content episode of the show. That causes some mixed feelings, as it is sad to see the show go but it also finally puts it out of its misery. That should not be the case with any wrestling show, but it has been around here for a long time. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dalton Castle promises a Christmas surprise. Quinn McKay gives us the opening welcome and rundown. Josh Woods gets to draw his names for the Christmas Surprise twelve man tag team main event and seems rather pleased. Brian Johnson draws his names and is less impressed, as is his custom. Women’s Title: Holidead vs.Rok-C Holidead is challenging and says it is time for the dark reign to begin. Rok-C is ready for whatever Holidead brings at her because Holidead doesn’t have heart or the title. She still isn’t great at this ..
Ring of Honor Date: December 22, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We continue the final shows of the original era of the promotion and that means we are in for a bunch of one off matches. Thankfully that is what Ring of Honor has a tendency to do time after time so it isn’t like this is going to be much different. I’m not sure what to expect here as usual and again, that’s kind of a nice feeling. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay gives us the welcome and opening rundown. This week even has a theme, in the form of the Top Prospect Special. Eric Martin vs. Adrian Soriano vs. Rayo vs. Joe Keys One fall to a finish, Martin has Will Ferrara with him and Soriano has the rest of Primal Fear with him. Keys gets kicked outside to start and it’s Soriano getting to clean house early on. Martin is sent outside as well but Keys is back in for some rolling German suplexes on Soriano. That’s broken up by Martin, who ch..

Ring Of Honor Date: December 15, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We’re around Final Battle, with this show officially debuting before the show took place. At this point though, it isn’t like the date matters since there are only a few shows left in the first place. I’m not sure what to expect here, but odds are we’ll get some good wrestling to go with the rather limited storylines. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Quinn McKay gives us the welcome and rundown. Sledge vs. PCO Holidead is on commentary and it’s Falls Count Anywhere/no DQ. Before the match, Sledge teases attacking Brian Zane over (jokingly) calling him Steve. Business will be taken care of instead. PCO on the other hand shouts IT’S ALIVE. They slug it out with Sledge hitting a jumping back elbow to the face to take him down. It’s already time to put a trashcan on PCO’s head for a charge in the corner. The fight heads to the floor for the chop off until ..
Final Battle 2021 Date: December 11, 2021 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman It’s the end of an era and quite possibly the end of a company, or at least the end of the company as we know it to be. Ring of Honor is going into hiatus after this show for about four months, leaving a pretty big cloud over their future. I’m not sure what that is going to mean, but hopefully they can have a great show on their way out. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Six Man Tag Team Titles: Righteous vs. Shane Taylor Promotions Promotions (Moses/Kaun/O’Shay Edwar.ds, with Ron Hunt) are defending, with Dutch and Moses fighting over wrist control to start. Moses gets flipped into the corner, so he knocks Dutch outside in a hurry. Everything breaks down in a hurry and the three way brawl is on until it’s Vincent suplexing Kaun. That doesn’t work for Kaun, who is back up with a running elbow to the face. Moses comes back in and gets caught with a Side Ef..
That’s a worthy cause. With wrestling being so prevalent today, you can always find something to watch. It makes for some great viewing, but it also lets wrestling companies get a message out there rather easily. That can also be the case with individual wrestlers, and now one of them is doing something special as a wrestler is using his platform to help other people. SmackDown’s Top Dolla has sent out a tweet, announcing that he is holding his fifth annual canned food drive for Sarah’s House children’s homeless shelter. The drive is being held in Fort Meade, Maryland on November 19-21. Top Dolla’s tweet asked for dirt sheet sites that report on everything he said and try to make money off of his name with clickbait articles every week. Asking all Dirt Sheet websites that report on everything I say every week & try to make clickbait headlines to get publicity off my name to report that I’ll be having my 5th Annual Canned Food Drive for Sarah’s House children’s homeless shelter in For..

Tuesday Night Titans Date: November 13, 1984 Location: Video One Studios, Owings Mills, Maryland Hosts: Vince McMahon, Lord Alfred Hayes Another request here, partially so I can say I’ve done an episode of this show. This is a bit of a different show as it’s mainly a talk show with wrestling guests. There would be matches included, though this isn’t exactly the best time period from a quality standpoint. I’m not entirely sure what to expect here but that’s the kind of show Tuesday Night Titans was. Let’s get to it..
Ring of Honor Date: September 29, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Last week was a rather unique show as everything was focused on the Pure Rules division. That worked for a one off, but I could go for something else this week. Hopefully that is the case, as it should be time for the fallout from Death Before Dishonor. You never know what you’re getting around here though so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay gives us the welcome and the rundown. Brian Johnson is ready to take over the Pure Rules division. PJ Black comes up and says if he wins, Johnson has to shake his hands. Deal. PJ Black vs. Brian Johnson Pure Rules and Johnson says Black is the only non-bozo on the roster. He even handles his own entrance to save Bobby Cruise some time. Black, Johnson’s former mentor, says he didn’t teach Johnson everything. They go to the mat to start with Black working on the arm, setting up a front facelock. A hea..
Smackdown Date: October 1, 2021 Location: Royal Farms Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole It’s a big night as we are starting this year’s Draft. That means we are going to be seeing a bunch of names moved from show to show, though it is not clear if NXT will be included as well. That could make for some interesting changes, but they might not all be for the best. Let’s get to it. Commentary welcomes us to the show and sets up a few rules: half of the roster will be eligible for drafting tonight and half on Raw, but the rosters will not officially change until October 22, the night after Crown Jewel. We waste no time as Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce are here to announce the first round picks: Round 1 Smackdown: Roman Reigns Raw: Big E. Smackdown: Charlotte Raw: Bianca Belair Here are Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman for a chat, but first we look at a package on Reigns vs. Finn Balor from Extreme Rules. Reigns’ shirt now says We The Ones and he demands to b..
