Monday Night Raw Date: March 13, 2023 Location: Amica Mutual Pavilion, Providence, Rhode Island Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We have six major TV shows left before Wrestlemania and there is still some work to do. Most of the matches and stories are already set but there are a least a few things that need to be finalized. There is a good chance that some of those will be covered, or at least addressed, tonight so let’s get to it. Here is Edge to get things going. He loves that kind of reaction from the crowd but wants to get straight to the point. Edge calls out Finn Balor so here is the full Judgment Day. Edge says that Balor’s request for a Wrestlemania match is on, which Balor appreciates. With that out of the way, Edge recaps the feud and says he doesn’t have time to deal with all of these people anymore. That’s why at Wrestlemania, he wants Hell in a Cell. Balor says Hell couldn’t handle his demons so they’re on for Wrestlemania. Judgment Day storms the ring and the..
And NEW! Title changes can mean the world for a championship as it can breathe new life into the title’s status. Occasionally something just needs to be changed and that can make for a big moment. It can be even more impressive when someone special is involved in the titles changing hands. Both things were true this week, as a legend was involved in helping make another legend a champion. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE “Loves” This Superstar Backstage, Possible Future World Champion The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Lita and Becky Lynch defeat Damage Ctrl to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Late in the match, Bayley interfered on Damage Ctrl’s behalf, prompting WWE Hall Of Famer Trish Stratus to run to the ring and help take Bayley out. The win makes the first Women’s Tag Team Title reign for either Lita or Lynch. It was a cool moment. Check out the title change, plus more from each of the new champs: [This post contains video, click to play] [T..
He has fans. With so many talented wrestlers on the WWE roster, it can be difficult for a wrestler to find a way to stand out. Being able to have good matches on a regular basis helps, but there has to be something more to really push someone to the next level. It seems that a current star in WWE has done just that, and is receiving praise backstage as a result. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One More: Sami Zayn Getting Another Title Shot Against Roman Reigns According to WrestleVotes in an interview with GiveMeSport, several people backstage in WWE, including COO Triple H “love” Gunther, to the point where he may be a future World Champion. Other than Triple H, names such as Road Dogg and Jason Jordan are said to be fans. Gunther is the reigning Intercontinental Champion and has held the title since June 10, 2022. This gives him the longest reign since The Rock in 1997-98. They’re onto something. Check out what Gunther has been doing in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [Th..
They’re planting seeds. We are less than two months away from WrestleMania 39 and WWE has already started announcing the card. There have been multiple title matches set for the show, but several matches still need to be made official for Los Angeles. Since it is WrestleMania, a lot of these matches have to be planned far in advance. We may be seeing some of that work being done now. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Checking In: The Miz Set To Represent WWE In Rather Cool Event Seth Rollins appeared on the Pat McAfee Show this week (with his appearance beginning at around 1:39:00) and talked about Logan Paul. Rollins talked about how he does not believe Paul truly loves wrestling and claimed that Paul was only coming into Rollins’ sport to make money. He also suggested that Paul would not say anything to his face and does his bragging on social media. Paul eliminated Rollins from the Royal Rumble, which led to speculation of a WrestleMania match between the two, but nothing has been made offic..
It’s something different. Wrestlers have a bad tendency to not have a way out of the ring once their careers are winding down. In too many cases, wrestlers do not have a way out of the industry and nothing to fall back on. It can be quite the problem, but there are instances where a wrestler has something else planned for when their in-ring career is over. Now a top WWE star is dabbling in a completely different industry. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Here’s Why Aliyah Has Been Off WWE TV, When She Could Return WWE star Bobby Lashley recently spoke with Sidewalks Entertainment and revealed that he is filming a reality show involving him flipping houses. Lashley said it is something that he loves to do, in addition to working in real estate. The show deals with Lashley working with his team as they flip houses and explains a bit of how to get into real estate. There is no word on where or when the show will air. Lashley can do a lot of things in the ring as well. Check out..
Not going to happen. All of the recent changes in WWE have shaken up the company in all kinds of ways. Some of these changes have been very notable while others have been a bit more subtle. That is a good balance to have, but there have also been some things that have not changed, and now we know one of the bigger long absent idea that will not be returning in the future. During a new interview with the Ringer, WWE Executive Triple H made it clear that blood would not be returning to WWE television. Triple H said the world has evolved and that blood is unnecessary as what they do is already dangerous enough. Now bloody wrestlers are expected to roll to the floor to be checked if they are injured with referees putting on gloves. There is nothing to suggest that there will be exceptions to the rule. Opinion: This is the kind of decision that I like to see as there is no need to have wrestlers bleed during a match. It was a nice thing to see back in the day but getting rid of it is a sm..
Rampage Date: August 5, 2022 Location: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross We’re a day away from Battle Of The Belts and that is probably not going to mean very much. Other than that, we have a street fight this week between Keith Lee/Swerve Strickland and Josh Woods/Tony Nese, after Woods attacked Lee last week. In addition, Madison Rayne will be making her AEW debut which could be interesting. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Mance Warner Non-title and William Regal is on commentary. Before the match, we get a video from Warner, who is quite the Tennessee style talker. He promises to fight Moxley (rather than dance with him) because he has heard Moxley talk about how much he loves to bleed. Now Ole Mancer is here to become the man. It’s a brawl in the aisle to start with Warner sending him into the steps before biting Moxley’s head. They get inside for the bell and are back on the floor literally two seconds l..
Welcome aboard. Wrestling is a weird universe when it comes to mainstream recognition as it exists in its own very firm bubble. You are either in the wrestling world or not and it is an industry that is often looked down upon as a result. It can be fun to see someone well known for something outside of wrestling get involved and that might have been the case again this weekend. WWE held its annual Summerslam event over the weekend and as usual it was one of their biggest shows of the year. Actress Kat Dennings, best known for her roles in the Thor movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Two Broke Girls tweeted about the show, saying that it was her first Summerslam and made her feel unwell. She followed that with a tweet saying that she thinks she loves WWE. Just watched my first #SummerSlam and I am unwell — Kat Dennings (@OfficialKat) July 31, 2022 Oh no I think I love @WWE — Kat Dennings (@OfficialKat) July 31, 2022 Opinion: This is one of those things that WWE can brag ab..
Monday Night Raw Date: July 18, 2022 Location: Amalie Arena, Tampa, Florida Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton We have two shows left before Summerslam and that means it is time to start hammering home the rest of the details. A good deal of the card has already been set and now it is time to wrap things up, including things other than Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar. Maybe we can get some more of that this week so let’s get to it. Here is Titus O’Neil for a chat. Titus talks about how many charitable things WWE gets to do and he loves to talk about it as his Global Ambassador. That’s why you’ll never hear us talk about politics, religion or anything else controversial. This is a place that should be a safe haven for everyone so with that in mind, WELCOME TO MONDAY NIGHT RAW! We recap Becky Lynch costing Bianca Belair a match against Carmella last week. Here is Becky talking about the Little Engine That Could. There are people who try with everything they can but s..
Join the club. We are in an interesting year when it comes to wrestling milestones. The year 2022 marks 20 years since the WWE debuts of people like John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, Batista and more. That alone is enough to make the year historic, but at the same time are some other milestones that go back even further in history. WWE might be looking to celebrate something else. According to PWInsider.com, the September 23 SmackDown will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. This will be one day after twenty five years to the day of Goldberg’s WCW debut on September 22, 1997, also in Salt Lake City. It is currently not clear if WWE is planning to do something to commemorate the event. Goldberg has not wrestle for WWE since February of this year. Opinion: I can see this one going either way, as WWE certainly loves presenting Goldberg as a major star, but at the same time, it would come a bit out of nowhere. Unless WWE is wanting to do something to set up another Goldber..
Smackdown Date: July 15, 2022 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee We have about two weeks to go before Summerslam and the question for tonight is “does anything besides Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns matter”. WWE has turned Summerslam into a one match show and that doesn’t leave much for this week. We are getting a Street Profit vs. an Uso though, just in case you wanted some variety. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Michael Cole is in the ring to open things up and introduces Pat McAfee, who has signed a multi year extension to remain in WWE. McAfee talks about how special it is to be here for him because he loves this so much. After a rather pro-Pat chant, McAfee thanks the fans for putting up with Corey Graves for two weeks while he was gone. That included BUM A** CORBIN being an idiot last week, complete with video. McAfee talks about how he and Corbin knew each other before they even came to WWE. They were roommates together as rook..
He might not be around as often. There are a lot of wrestlers in the world today but they all have one thing in common: at some point they have to step out of the ring. That can be harder for some than others and it can make for some interesting exits. Some people do it in a different way, and a current WWE star might have a bit of a unique plan for how to wind things down. During an interview on The Five Count, WWE’s Sheamus said that he would like to change his schedule to acting for a few months and then wrestling for a few months. The idea behind the switch would be to keep things fresh, though Sheamus says he still loves being in front of the camera in one way or another. Sheamus, 44, has been wrestling on the WWE main roster since 2009 and has dabbled in acting since 2008. Opinion: This is one of those things that could work, but it does seem that Sheamus is starting to think about life after wrestling. You wouldn’t know that he was in his mid 40s, but it is nice to see that he..
They really need that? WWE has been around for a very long time now and has put on more events and shows than anyone could reasonably count over the years. That means there have been all kinds of moments throughout the years, some of which are all time classics. WWE loves to look back on its own history, and that is what they are doing again, but with a not that normal twist. According to Wrestlingnews.co, WWE is using old footage for their modern video packages. This includes using footage from John Cena returning as the Dr. of Thuganomics in 2012 as part of a package on Madcap Moss vs. Happy Corbin from WrestleMania Backlash, and footage from the Eddie Guerrero tribute show as part of a Stephanie McMahon segment on WWE Evil. There is no word on how many more times WWE has done something like this. During the Madcap Moss/Corbin video recap, WWE used crowd shots from 2012 from John Cena’s return as the Dr. of Thuganomics. They have been doing more of this lately. pic.twitter.com/Vg2v..
Who are you again? WWE has an odd history of changing wrestlers’ names out of nowhere. Sometimes it means that a wrestler is going to another roster, but other times it means that WWE has just changed their minds about something. Neither of them are exactly great reasons, but WWE loves to make the moves. That is what they have done again with a bit of a surprising name. According to his WWE.com profile, Raul Menoza’s name is now Cruz del Toro. The name was used this week on NXT during del Toro’s appearance in a tag match, though there was no formal announcement was made. There is no word on why the name change was made and nothing to suggest that del Toro is on his way to the main roster. His Legado del Fantasma’s teammates names have not been changed. Opinion: I’m not sure why WWE made this change and I would actually be surprised if they had a concrete reason either. The name changes have been coming rather quickly as of late and I don’t know how much good they are going to do for ..
That’s a different take. Most of the last twenty years of professional wrestling have been dominated by WWE. The company has been so far and away ahead of any other promotion that it has lapped the field. Then in 2019, AEW made its debut and instantly became one of the biggest promotions in the world. The two companies have competed since then and taken some shots at each other, but now one prominent AEW wrestler has some nice things to say about WWE. During an interview with Ariel Helwani, AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman praised WWE programming and its wrestlers, talking about how he much he enjoyed seeing WWE’s stars develop. He praised Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman, Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard for the work they have been doing, while saying that the only think the company was missing was himself. Friedman had a lot to say. Check out the full interview: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: While you never can tell exactly how serious or sincere Friedman is, he does s..
Putting her money where your mouth is. There is a lot of wrestling in the world today and it is almost impossible to keep track of everything that is going on. While the bigger promotions are going to get the most attention, there is so much more content out there, which you might not get to see every time. One wrestler seems to be trying to do something about that. Impact Wrestling’s Jordynne Grace has sent out a tweet, offering to help fans get in to any show that she is on but that they cannot afford to attend. Grace said that she wants to facilitate more people watch wrestling and loves to help doing so. In addition to working for Impact Wrestling, Grace also works for a variety of other promotions, including Beyond Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling, Terminus and more. Fans: If there’s a show I’m on that you want to attend, but you can’t afford the ticket, contact me and I’ll do my best to get you in. If I can facilitate more people enjoying wrestling, I’d love to do that. — J..
He found something. Over the last year and a half, WWE has released more than 200 people from the company, with the majority of them being active wrestlers. This has shaken up the company in a huge way, but it has also been a huge hit to the wrestlers themselves. That is a lot of people who suddenly have no job and the question is where they are going to land. Another one is already back in the fold. According to PWInsider.com, Drake Maverick, who was released from WWE in 2021, has returned to the company as part of the Monday Night Raw creative team. Maverick reportedly started in the role about three or four weeks ago. Following his release from the company, Maverick has not wrestled another match anywhere and it is not clear if he plans to do so again in the future. Opinion: I love seeing something like this, as Maverick gets to continue doing what he loves, even if it is from a different side. The fact that WWE has hired him back again shows that they see something in him and if ..
He might stick around. AEW has not been around that long but we are now reaching an interesting time in the company’s history. Some of the company’s original contracts are starting to expire and that means some of the people involved might be seeing what else is out there. There will certainly be some names who want to stick around though, and now we know where one of the bigger AEW names stand. AEW broadcaster Jim Ross recently appeared on the J-Mart and Ramon podcast where he discussed his contract status with the company. Ross revealed that his current contract expires in April, when it will be up for renewal. While Ross does want to stay with the company, he also said that at 70 years old, he has to start being realistic. Ross said that he still loves what he is doing and still has fun. There is nothing to suggest that AEW will not renew Ross’ contract. Opinion: This is about as realistic of a take as Ross could have. Yes he is a legend and yes he is still one of the biggest name..
Call it a fresh start. With so many wrestlers on its roster, WWE has to have quite a bit of television time at its disposal. The company needs a good number of shows to get that many people a chance to showcase themselves to the audience. As a result, WWE puts quite a bit of effort into making its shows look good, but now they are trying things with a bit of a twist. This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw began as usual, with its traditional montage of clips from throughout the company’s history. At the end though, a voice over said the words “THEN, NOW, FOREVER”. After the montage ended, the WWE logo came up, again as usual, but this time the same voice said “TOGETHER”, which appears underneath the logo. WWE has also referenced the change on its Twitter account. THEN NOW FOREVER TOGETHER#WWERaw — WWE (@WWE) February 15, 2022 Opinion: I’m not sure how much of a difference this is going to make but this feels like a very WWE thing to do. The company loves to tout itself and everyth..
