REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – March 17, 1997: The NWO Does St. Patrick’s Day

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Nitro #79 Date: March 17, 1997 Location: Savannah Civic Center, Savannah, Georgia Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Larry Zbyszko, Bobby Heenan It’s the night after Uncensored and the big story is that Sting has declared his loyalty for WCW by attacking the NWO to close the show last night. At the same time though it’s not all good for the purple and gold (WCW for you young people out there) as the NWO won the main event last night, basically giving them unlimited power in the company. There are ele..

Monday Nitro #180 Date: February 22, 1999 Location: Arco Arena, Sacramento, California Attendance: 13,921 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We’re FINALLY past SuperBrawl and things couldn’t be much lower for WCW if they handed all the wrestlers shovels and told them to dig their own graves. Hogan is still World Champion, Windham and Hennig are Tag Team Champions, Scott Hall is US Champion, Scott Steiner is TV Champion, and Rey Mysterio doesn’t have a mask. We’ve got three weeks ..

Several Important Names In Attendance At Last Week’s WWE SmackDown

Location, location, location. WWE SmackDown has been on the air for well over twenty two years now and the show has built up one heck of a reputation for itself. According to Deadline.com, several entertainment executives and stars were in attendance for last week’s SmackDown in Los Angeles, California. Here is a list of the executives and television/film personalities who were at the show last week: • Kelly Kahl (President of CBS Entertainment) • Matt Cherniss (Head of Development and Programming at Apple) • Noah Harpster (Actor and Producer) • Barry Poznick, (President of MGM Studios) • Larry Jones (Executive Vice President of Fox Sports) • Vanessa Hudgens (Actor) • Jemele Hill (Sports Journalist) • Reggie Bush (Analyst for Fox..

“The Assassin” Joey Hamilton Passes Away At Age 82

We have some sad news to report today as “The Assassin” Joey Hamilton has passed away at the age of 82. From WWE.com: Following in the footsteps of his brother Larry “The Missouri Mauler,” Hamilton transitioned from amateur boxing and broke into the world of wrestling in the 1950s. By 1958, The Hamilton Brothers had risen up the ranks of the New York based Capitol Wrestling and battled Antonino Rocca and Miguel Pérez in the main event at Madison Square Garden. Just 19 years old at the time, Jody became the youngest grappler to ever co-main event at The World’s Most Famous Arena. Hamilton would go on to team with Tom Renesto to form the masked duo The Assassins and drew sellout crowds throughout the southeastern United States. The tandem became a force in Georgia Championship Wrestling and held the NWA Georgia Tag Team Titles a record-breaking 12 times. After Renesto’s retirement, Hamilton would carry on the torch of The Assassins with Ernie Ladd and then “Hercules” Hernandez and cl..

WATCH: Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton From Money in the Bank 2017

The Maharaja defends his title. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at the 2017 Money in the Bank pay-per-view. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The Modern-Day Maharaja didn’t just defeat The Apex Predator to retain the WWE Championship he won in shocking fashion last month at WWE Backlash, he did it in front of Orton’s hometown crowd and a cadre of “St. Louis Legends” at ringside that included Greg Gagne, Larry “The Axe” Hennig, Baron Von Raschke, Sgt. Slaughter, Ric Flair and The Viper’s father, “Cowboy” Bob Orton. With that kind of support, Orton was feeling it from the second he walked through the curtain, and the crowd’s chants of “RKO” very nearly willed The Viper to hit his fearsome finishing move just seconds into the match. But thanks to an assist from The Singh Brothers, Orton found himself flip..

Monday Nitro #182 Date: March 8, 1999 Location: Centrum, Worcester, Massachusetts Attendance: 10,856 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schaivone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We had to get to this one eventually. I’ve heard warnings about this show for a long time now and even though I’ve seen it more than once before, the idea that this was allowed to make air still baffles me. It’s the go home Nitro before Uncensored, meaning this is the big show to get people to buy the pay per view. Let’s get to it. Video on the cag..

Possible Reason Why Alexa Bliss Did Not Appear On Monday Night Raw

It’s a serious problem. There are a lot of stories on any given edition of Monday Night Raw but sometimes there is a reason that a story does not get any attention. It might be due to some creative issues or it might be due to someone involved with the show. The latter might have been the case this week, as a prominent name on Monday Night Raw was not around, and we might know why. According to PWInsider.com, Alexa Bliss was backstage at this week’s Monday Night Raw, though she did not appear on the show. Earlier in the day, Bliss sent out a message on Instagram asking if anyone knew of a local veterinarian who treated pigs, as her pet pig Larry Steve is unable to move or walk and is in pain. It is NOT confirmed that this is the reason Bliss was not on the show, though it was implied that she interfered in the main event, as fire shot up to blind Reginald, as was the case in the previous week’s match.
