REVIEW: WWF Invasion 1992: Just Go Back Home

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Invasion 92 Hosts: Sean Mooney, Lord Alfred Hayes Commentators: Sean Mooney, Lord Alfred Hayes Now this is more my speed. I’ve been doing a lot more indy level stuff lately so let’s take a major step away and go with something I grew up on with a Coliseum Video. This sounds like a bunch of international matches and I’m not sure what to expect from that. These tapes can be from one extreme to the other so it could a lot of ways. Let’s get to it. Sean Mooney, dressed up like a Star Trek officer (in theory at least ..

REVIEW: Summerslam 2001: Summerslam Gets All Alliancey

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Summerslam 2001 Date: August 19, 2001 Location: Compaq Center, San Jose, California Attendance: 15,293 Commentators: Jim Ross, Paul Heyman I’m not sure how it happened but this show was twenty years ago. We’re in the middle of the Invasion so this is going to be a rather Alliance heavy show. That may or may not be a good thing, but the double main event of Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle and Rock vs. Booker T. would likely fall on the good side. Let’s get to it. The opening video is a naration-less highlight package ..

NXT UK Results – June 30, 2022

NXT UK Date: June 30, 2022 Location: BT Sports Studios, London, England Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Andy Shepherd We’re back in England and the big story this week is the explanation from Trent Seven, even if it might seem pretty obvious why he turned on Tyler Bate. Other than that, we have Fallon Henley vs. Emilia McKenzie, as the NXT invasion continues. I’m sure this won’t be anything that annoys long term NXT UK viewers so let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter vacating the NXT UK Tag Team Titles last week, with Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen winning them in the show’s main event. Opening sequence. Blair Davenport vs. Angel Hayze This is Davenport’s first match since injuring her ankle in November. Davenport throws her down to start but Hayze grabs a front facelock. That doesn’t last long as Davenport hits a basement dropkick and we hit the chinlock. Some running knees give Davenport two as Nigel gets in a Chamber of Secrets reference. Hayze c..

Here’s Why WWE Chose Sonya Deville As Bianca Belair’s First Challenger

At least there’s a reason. WWE has come a long way with its women’s division and things have gotten back to a pretty high level again. Bianca Belair took the Raw Women’s Title from Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 38 and seems primed to be the next big thing in the division. She is going to need some challengers, and WWE has gone with a somewhat surprising choice for her first one. Now we might know more about why. Earlier this month on Monday Night Raw, WWE official Sonya Deville attacked Belair and announced that she would be the next challenger to the title at WrestleMania Backlash. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Deville was chosen as the next challenger as WWE did not want to present Belair vs. Lynch again so soon after WrestleMania. Deville has wrestled only a handful of matches since the fall of 2020 as she had to deal with the fallout of a home invasion before moving into a non-wrestling on screen role. There is no word on if she will be returning to the ring full time at th..

WWE Terminates Working Relationship With Russia

According to its corporate website, WWE has terminated its partnership with Russian broadcaster Match and shut down the WWE Network in Russia effective immediately. The report further states that the move eliminates access in Russia to any WWE programming, including the company’s weekly Raw, SmackDown and NXT shows, its on-demand library, and all of its premium live events, including WrestleMania 38. This is the latest in a series of economic decisions made in an attempt to punish the Russian Government and Vladimir Putin for its invasion of Ukraine. Several companies, including Apple, have stopped doing business with Russia, which is hurting their economy. In addition, the United States has placed several sanctions on Russia over the past weeks, with more to come in the future. Editor’s Opinion: This doesn’t surprise me, as we are starting to see a pattern of major industries from the west doing what they can to stand up to the Russian Government. Many people view Russia’s invasio..

Impact Wrestling Results – January 20, 2022

Impact Wrestling Date: January 20, 2022 Location: Bomb Factory, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Tom Hannifan The march to No Surrender is on and that means it is time to start setting up a card. Impact continues to be doing fairly well, and the question now is what is next for Moose and the World Title. By that, I mean getting to defend against W. Morrissey. For once I’m actually curious to see how things are going here and that is nice to be able to say, at least partially because of the Ring of Honor invasion. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Opening sequence. Tasha Steelz vs. Chelsea Green Mickie James is on commentary and Savannah Evans is here with Steelz. Green sends her into the corner to start but gets run over, allowing Steelz to hammer away. Some shouting at Mickie doesn’t seem to cause Steelz too many problems but Green blocks the crucifix bomb. A jumping cutter drops Green for two but she’s right back up with a lifting Downward Spiral for her own near fall. Back up and Steel..

Impact Wrestling Results – January 13, 2022

Impact Wrestling Date: January 13, 2022 Location: Bomb Factory, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Tom Hannifan, D’Lo Brown We are fresh off the outstanding Hard To Kill, which was one of the best shows that Impact has ever done. In addition to some great matches, a group of former Ring of Honor wrestlers invaded the show, which feels like it could be the start of something very good. Let’s get to it. The opening recap looks at all of the matches from Hard To Kill, plus the invasion, albeit not in order. A furious W. Morrissey arrives and wants Moose. Morrissey comes into the arena and calls Moose out. He had Moose beaten for a ten count at Hard To Kill, even though Moose practically stole his World Title. Just once, have the balls to face someone man to man. Moose can come out here or look over his shoulder for the rest of his life. Instead, Moose pops up on screen to say Morrissey didn’t have him beaten. There will be a World Title match tonight but Morrissey won’t be in it. Instead, he..

WATCH: Ring Of Honor Title Changes Hands As Invasion Continues

When worlds collide. The wrestling world has changed a lot in recent years, as the barriers between promotions have gone down. The separation between companies has lowered as promotions are starting to work together and acknowledge each other more than ever. That has made for some interesting moments, and that was the case again this week, involving a promotion that is only kind of around at the moment. This week on Impact Wrestling, Deonna Purrazzo defeated Rok-C to win the Ring of Honor Women’s Title. Following the match, Ring of Honor’s Maria Kanellis-Bennett came to the ring to confront Purrazzo, with several other Ring of Honor wrestlers surrounding her. Impact Wrestling stars attempted to make a save but were attacked as well. This comes after the Ring of Honor stars invaded Hart To Kill, a show that also saw the Ring of Honor World Title defended. It was a big night. Check out the match, the post match, and the new champ in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [..

More On Ring Of Honor’s Impact Wrestling Invasion

This could be the start of something big. The wrestling world has been changing in a lot of different ways over the last several months, with one of the biggest changes being the end of the original Ring of Honor. The promotion let all of its contracted workers go, meaning they are now available to work elsewhere. A large group of them might have found a new home, and now we might know something more about them. This weekend, Impact Wrestling’s Hard To Kill pay per view included an invasion by a group of former Ring of Honor wrestlers. Matt Taven, Vincent, PCO, Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis all appeared, with all but Kanellis attacking Eddie Edwards, Rhino, Heath, Rich Swann and Willie Mack. According to PWInsider.com, neither Taven, Vincent, PCO nor Bennett are currently under contract to Ring of Honor. Kanellis’ contract status is unclear but she will be part of the group in Impact Wrestling. It was a big moment. Check out who is coming to Impact Wrestling: [This post contains v..

Ring Of Honor Invades Impact Wrestling Hard To Kill

Nice to meet you? There have been a lot of changes in the wrestling world over the last year and some of those changes have been rather important to say the least. One of the biggest has been the end of the original era for Ring of Honor, as the company is going into hiatus. Those wrestlers are going to have to go somewhere though, and now we know where some of them seem to have landed. This weekend, Impact Wrestling presented their annual Hard To Kill event. Following the Hardcore War between Violent By Design and Eddie Edwards/Rich Swann/Willie Mack/Heath/Rhino, a group of Ring of Honor wrestlers appeared and attacked Edwards and company. This included PCO, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett and Vincent, accompanied by Maria Kanellis. There is no word on if more Ring of Honor wrestlers will be joining them in the future, though the show did feature a match for the Ring of Honor World Title, with Jonathan Gresham retaining against Chris Sabin. We sense there is a little invasion going on here..

WWE Turned Down Rehab For Former WCW/WWE Star

He’s one of many. WWE has been around for a very long time now and there have been a lot of wrestlers to come through their doors over the years. Some of them have made a bigger impact than others but they have all done at least something in the company. WWE does some nice things for its current and former wrestlers, but one of them does not seem to meet the requirements for one of those offers. Former WWE and WCW star Buff Bagwell appeared on the Who The Fook Are These Guys podcast and revealed that WWE would not send him to rehab when his substance abuse issues were increasing. Bagwell only wrestled for the company for a few weeks before being fired in 2001 at the beginning of the Invasion. This took place before WWE began offering every former wrestler rehabilitation treatment on the company’s time. Bagwell did have some good moments in his career. Check out some of his time in the big leagues: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

Top Tag Team Likely Heading To AEW For Dream Match

That would make sense. There is all kinds of talent in the wrestling world today and thankfully it is now easier to see it than ever before. Wrestling is so easy to access and there is now more content readily available than any point in history. That makes it all the more special when a big match is featured in a high profile situation, and that is what we might be seeing soon. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the Briscoes are expected to sign with AEW and feud with FTR. The Briscoes won the Ring of Honor Tag Team Titles at Final Battle, after which FTR interfered. This comes after the two have been feuding on Twitter for the last few months. There is no word on when the Briscoes could be making their debut with AEW or when the match would take place. It was a big moment. Check out FTR’s invasion, plus both teams in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Works for me. ..

WWE Star Returning To The Ring For First Time In Over A Year

One more time? Every now and then, a wrestler may have to take some time away from the ring for one reason or another. This could be anything from an injury to some kind of storyline issue, but sometimes it is something that has nothing to do with wrestling. That is the case with a current WWE star, but it seems that she will be getting back in the ring rather soon. This week on SmackDown, WWE executive Sonya Deville announced that she will be facing Naomi on next week’s show. The announcement comes after Deville has refused to allow Naomi to wrestle in recent weeks, though Deville refused to face her. Should the match take place, it will be Deville’s first since Summerslam 2020, as she has taken time away from the ring as the legal fallout from a home invasion works its way through the courts. It has been awhile. Check out Deville’s time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] O..

REVIEW: Invasion Of The Bodyslammers: Wrestling And Bowling

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Invasion of the Bodyslammers Hosts: Lord Alfred Hayes, Slick Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Jim Ross, Randy Savage Oh how I love the WWE Network. Back in the day, I had this on tape and watched it so many times that I can probably tell you the commentary from memory. I’ve always wanted to review it but it’s kind of hard to find. Well either that or I’m too lazy to actually look it up. This is from early 1993 so don’t expect the best action in the world. Let’s get to it. Hayes and Slick are in a bowling alley where S..

Jay White Leading A Bullet Club Invasion In AEW?

Jay White retained the IWGP NEVER Openweight Championship against David Finally at NJPW Resurgence. The event took place on Friday, August 13 live from The Torch at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The defacto Bullet Club leader came into the match with quite the buzz surrounding him, thanks to his recent stint in Impact Wrestling. That stint includes the addition of Chris Bey into the Bullet Club’s ranks. White is met with cheers and full crowd support despite where he goes, which is understandable. American fans admire King Switch’s work from afar and that is typically always the case. But this is about more than just Jay getting over in the United States. Is The Bullet Club gearing up for an American invasion? [This post contains video, click to play] It’s Still His Era The Switchblade is the undeniable top heel in New Japan Pro Wrestling. His devious tactics and despicable nature keep him firmly on the company’s dark side. It’s a role that firmly he embraces. No one cuts a heel promo..

How Vince McMahon Reacted To A Horrible Match

He matters most. While he might not be around as often as he was before, there is no one more powerful in WWE than Vince McMahon. His opinion or thought on a wrestler, storyline, or pretty much anything in the company can determine its fate and that is often a powerful weapon. It can be both good and bad, though in one infamous occasion, it did not turn out well at all. Back on July 2, 2001, Monday Night Raw included a WCW World Title match with Booker T. defending against Buff Bagwell. The match was meant to kick off the new WCW but was so poorly received that it partially caused the plans to be canceled, setting up the InVasion storyline instead. It was an important night in WWE’s history, but what did McMahon think about what happened? Jim Ross discussed the match on his Grilling JR podcast, saying that McMahon was not happy with the result. The match resulted in a loss of fan interest and momentum for the story, as McMahon felt that Booker T. and Bagwell could have a good match t..

Why WWE Is Not Having Invasions On The Way To Survivor Series

Not on our show you don’t. The Coronavirus has had a huge impact on the way WWE has worked this year. There are only so many ways that the company can keep things operating as usual during the pandemic and that is going to cause a lot of changes to take place. Some of these changes are various things not being around, and that will be the case during the build to a major show. We are coming up on Survivor Series in November and that means things are going to start getting interesting in a hurry. Last year’s event was quite the show with a three way battle for brand supremacy between Monday Night Raw, SmackDown and NXT. One of the best parts was the shows attacking each other, but we won’t be seeing that this year and for a very good reason. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there will be no invasions from one show to another this year for the sake of keeping the rosters separate. This way, if one of the rosters is infected, it will not spread over to the other show and cause mor..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – March 11, 2020

Ring of Honor Date: March 11, 2020 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Host: Quinn McKay We’re still in Baltimore and that means we should be getting close to the main event sooner or later. The show was built around the NWA invasion, meaning NWA World Champion Nick Aldis should be around. That could make for something interesting and that’s what this company is needing. Let’s get to it. We look at the NWA invasion as we move towards Aldis vs. Marty Scurll for the World Title. This ties into Rush vs. PCO for the World Title. Opening sequence. Rey Horus vs. Brody King Horus starts fast with the strikes but can’t get very far. Instead, King goes with the power to shove him down. They go outside and we take a rather early break. Back with Horus trying his own strikes, setting up a slingshot hurricanrana to the floor. King gets back in and blasts him with a clothesline, followed by the hard piledriver for two. Horus is right ba..

Video: Top Ten Shocking Home Invasions

Anybody home? Most of what happens on a wrestling show takes place inside the arena. That makes for a pretty simple formula but at the same time, it puts a firm limit on what can happen. You can only feature so many things inside an arena, where there aren’t a bunch of options for locations. That’s why it makes sense to take things outside of the arena, and what better place to go than someone’s home? And stay out. [This post contains video, click to play] WWE has posted a video of the Top Ten Shocking Home Invasions, looking at ten instances where someone took a fight to someone else’s home. These entries range throughout history, dating back from the late 1990s all the way to modern times, ranging over a variety of companies. Most of these involve a fight breaking out, but several of them are just someone showing up at a house and scaring someone. Opinion: I wasn’t expecting much from this list but it turned out to be something pretty fun. This is an idea that works a lot more o..
