That’s some praise. We are less than three weeks away from WrestleMania 39, but we are also more than two and a half years into Roman Reigns’ run as Universal Champion. That is the kind of title reign that you do not see for decades at a time and it is going to take a special showing to end the reign. One legend now has his pick for who should take the title from Reigns. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s In: Former WWE And Impact Wrestling Star Makes Surprise AEW Debut Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble match back in January, guaranteeing him a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 39. In an interview with Ariel Helwani on BT Sports, Undertaker said that someone has to stop Reigns, saying it has to be someone WWE trusts to not “flake off and do something”. Undertaker went on to call Rhodes the “logical guy” while also naming Sami Zayn as a dark horse. Reigns vs. Rhodes for the title is set for Night Two of WrestleMania 39 on April 2. They might have something her..
She’s in. There are a lot of talented wrestlers in the world today and several of them are able to be seen on national television on a regular basis. It can mean a lot for someone to get their chance on a bigger stage and occasionally that is exactly what you get to see. It was the case again this week, as a former WWE star made their official AEW debut with a target already in sight. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Rey Mysterio Wrestles On Late Late Show This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was held in Canada, with TBS Champion Jade Cargill issuing an open challenge to any Canadian. Cargill retained her title over Nicole Matthews in less than a minute, but after the match Taya Valkyrie debuted and attacked Cargill’s associate Leila Grey. Valkyrie is a former NXT star, where she wrestled under the name Frankie Monet, as well as a former Knockouts Champion. AEW President Tony Khan has since announced that Valkyrie is All Elite, suggesting she has signed with the company. Welcome to AEW,..
That’s something special. There are all kinds of things that need to come together to make a wrestler a success. At or near the top of the list is the ability to talk, as it can make the fans care about you in a way that almost anything in the ring just cannot do. Being able to use the right words help, and now another WWE star is revealing a special privilege that she has when it comes to talking. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Oh No: Former Impact Wrestling Star Arrested For Violating Order of Protection Involving Wife During a new interview with Sports Media with Richard Deitsch, Monday Night Raw star Rhea Ripley revealed that she has some creative freedom with promos. While there are promos where she is required to say certain things to get points across and cannot change much, she has “free range” on backstage segments. Such freedom when it comes to promos are not common in WWE, with only a handful of wrestlers being granted such permission. Ripley is quite the star. Check out her rece..
That’s not good. There are all kinds of wrestlers in the world today, several of whom have been seen in a variety of promotions. It can be interesting to see where someone goes after they have some success in one place, but unfortunately there are times when someone goes through a problem that is more important than wrestling. That appears to be the situation again and now legal issues are included. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Switch? Speculation Over WWE Possibly Dropping WrestleMania Feud At The Last Minute According to the Clarksville (Tennessee), Today, former Impact Wrestling star Crimson, real name Anthony Mayweather, was arrested on March 8 for violating an order of protection. Mayweather sent several texts messages to his wife and called his juvenile son. These actions violate an order stemming from an incident in 2016 when Mayweather was arrested for headbutting his wife. Mayweather was arrested on March 8 and released on bond later in the day. Mayweather wrestled in Impact Wrest..
A totally different way to go. With less than three weeks to go before WrestleMania 39, there is only so much time left to get everything set for the show. That can make for some last minute problems, especially if something comes up that causes an issue. It’s possible that is the case again, and it could have a rather big impact on what we are seeing at WrestleMania. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Try Again: Update On WWE Pitching WrestleMania 39 Ideas To Steve Austin One of the bigger wrestling stories at the moment is the status of Bray Wyatt. While Wyatt has reportedly been dealing with a medical issue, Wyatt has been dealing with Bobby Lashley in recent weeks. However, on Monday, Lashley sent out a tweet talking about how he had worked too had and is willing to face anyone at WrestleMania. There was no mention of Wyatt, suggesting that WWE is moving on to something else for the WrestleMania match. This is NOT seen as a fact but rather speculation at this point. I’ve worked too hard to ..
Impact Wrestling Date: March 9, 2023 Location: Sam’s Town Live, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are on our way to a trio of shows with Sacrifice, Multiverse United and Rebellion, which makes for quite the packed series of builds. That got started last week with a little something for each show getting time, but they are going to have to do it again for the next few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Here is Bully Ray to get things going. At No Surrender, Tommy Dreamer used the words “someone like me” (meaning Ray). What did he mean when he said that? Did he mean a two time Hall of Famer or half of the greatest tag team ever? Maybe a two time World Champion? Ray wishes he knew what Dreamer meant, because he threw hot coffee into Dreamer’s face. Dreamer wants a Busted Open match at Sacrifice but there is no way Dreamer is making it there. Cue Santino Marella to call Bully “Bobby Ray” and say that Dreamer will be at Sacrifice. It was only a minor ..
You need a followup. We are less than a month away from WrestleMania 39, which will include some of the biggest matches and moments of the year. Some of the top matches will have a major impact on what WWE does for the next several months, if not that much longer. However, there is a lot going on after the show is over and now we have an idea of what to expect. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Long Move: Interesting Note On WWE’s Change To Premium Live Events According to Xero News, WWE is considering two main events for Backlash, the next Premium Live Event after WrestleMania 39. The first option would see Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. There is no word on who would be champion going into the match. The other option would be Rhodes teaming with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to face Reigns and the Usos in a non-title match. There is no word on which way WWE is leaning. Backlash is set for March 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As of recently, ..
They have his attention. AEW has come into its own in recent years, offering wrestlers a new high level home outside of WWE. After decades of WWE dominating the wrestling landscape, there is a secondary option around. That does not mean everyone is going to want to stay there though, and now one of the biggest names in AEW might be signaling that it is time for a change. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: SmackDown Star Reportedly Injured, #1 Contenders Match Possibly Impacted Over the last year, AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman has talked about “The Bidding War Of 2024”, when he will be a free agent, available to sign with WWE or re-sign with AEW. According to Fightful Select, a WWE talent said Friedman told them that he was “looking forward to being there in 2024”, meaning WWE. At the same time, the talent said that it should be taken with a grain of salt. Other talented have also said Friedman has made similar statements. There is no word on when Friedman’s AEW deal..
Impact Wrestling Date: March 2, 2023 Location: Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are done with No Surrender and that means we are at least one step closer to Rebellion in April. Josh Alexander is still the World Champion after retaining over Rich Swann, but now Steve Maclin is waiting on the champ. That should make for a good buildup and they have time to make it work. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of No Surrender. Here is the Bullet Club for a chat to start. Chris Bey is rather happy about what he and Ace Austin have been doing lately, including beating the Motor City Machine Guns (in a six man tag) at No Surrender. Bey talks about helping set up the ring in this building before making his Impact Wrestling debut here as well. It turns out that Austin debuted here too but he would rather talk about beating Chris Sabin. After revealing Austin’s “I BEAT CHRIS SABIN”, we get a quick audience poll over who the be..
That could change things. There are certain things that can happen to any wrestler at any time and an injury is one of the worst. You never know when you might see someone get injured and anyone can get hurt no matter how trained or experienced they are. Now it seems that a WWE veteran is hurt and that could cause some issues for an upcoming important match. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Liv Morgan Meets Fan Who Cried Over Her SmackDown Loss This week on SmackDown, a fatal five way match between Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, LA Knight and Karrion Kross was scheduled for next week, with the winner challenging Gunther for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 39. However, according to Bryan Alvarez’s Twitter subscription feed by way of Wrestlingnews.co, Kingston has suffered an undisclosed injury this week on SmackDown. There is no word on how long he might be out of action or what this might mean for the five way match. Kingston is very talented when he is in the ring. ..
That would be a change. The biggest wrestling story of the year has been the return of Vince McMahon to WWE. McMahon has taken his former role as Chairman of the Board, with the reported goal of selling the company. This has led to the question of whether McMahon will return to the creative side of the company. Now we might know a little more about such a change. Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, Brock Lesnar accepted MVP’s offer of a match against Omos at WrestleMania 39. The match would be a first time pairing as Lesnar and Omos have never faced each other. According to WrestleVotes on Twitter, the match was McMahon’s idea, who pushed it through and made it happen. WWE and its executives have consistently said that McMahon has no impact on the creative side of the company. I’m told the highly anticipated, very compelling (??) Brock Lesnar vs Omos WrestleMania matchup was the idea of one specific, powerful person who pushed it through. pic.twitter.com/VpcdEFsLzJ — WrestleVotes..
He’s good in the role. There have been almost countless wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and a good many of them do not make the biggest impact. A small number do manage to become stars though and some of those move on to become some of the biggest names in wrestling history. WWE still manages to have some of them appear from time to time, and that will be the case again next week. That’s a way back in. There have been almost countless wrestlers on the WWE roster over the years and some of them have been able to make a bigger impact than others. At some point, those wrestlers are going to have to leave for one reason or another. Occasionally they make a return though, and that might be the case with a former champion returning in a different role. Impact Wrestling Date: February 23, 2023 Location: Osceola Heritage Park, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan It’s the go home show for No Surrender and the card is set up. There is one thing though that we need to cover, which involves who gets to talk first in a live edition of Busted Open Radio. Therefore, we have a Beat The Clock Challenge between Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Jonathan Gresham/Mike Bailey Non-title and Gresham takes Shelley down by the leg to start. Bailey comes in and kicks away at said leg, with Gresham and Bailey taking turns on it. Shelley manages to knock Bailey outside though and it’s the Guns taking over for a change. Back in and the limping Shelley strikes away at Bailey, who comes right back with the bouncing kicks to Sabin. Gresham and Sabin slug it out until Gresham does one of those stupid looking deals where he sends the Guns together and kicks Sabin, making him dr..
He’s still here? There have been all kinds of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and a good many of them do not make the biggest impact. There are some names who are more infamous than anything else, while there are other names who did not do all that much while they were around. Now a former WWE star you might not have thought about much lately was backstage at a major WWE event. Impact Wrestling Date: February 16, 2023 Location: Osceola Heritage Park, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are some amount of days away from No Surrender and that means it is time for some other qualifying match for the #1 contenders match. Other than that, hopefully we get more build towards Josh Alexander defending the World Title against Rich Swann. Bey picks up the speed and sweeps out the leg before hitting a kick to the head. They head outside with Kushida getting sent into the apron, only to kick the arm out on the way back inside. The arm is slammed into the mat and Kushida twists it around for a bonus. Bey heads outside and ..
