Shorthanded: AEW To Be Missing Some Top Stars In Coming Weeks

It might be a bit. There are all kinds of talented wrestlers on the AEW roster, who have come together to help make the company as popular as it is. The company has been built around several different styles of wrestling, some of which have been around the promotion since the beginning. There is not room for everyone on the roster though, and now some of them will be missing in action for a bit. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Big Fans: Wendy’s Has A Prediction For AEW Best Of Seven Series According to PWInsider.com, some AEW stars will be missing from upcoming editions of Dynamite due to international commitments. First, Sammy Guevara, Tay Melo and FTR will all be missing from the December 28 edition of Dynamite as they will be competing for AAA in Mexico that night. Second, Kenny Omega and FTR will not be at the January 4 Dynamite as they will be in Japan for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. Everyone should be back as usual following these dates. That is some talent to have missing. Check out the ..

WATCH: Wrestling Fans Make Roman Reigns Part Of Their Wedding Reception

That’s a high honor. Over nearly the last two and a half years, there has been no one in WWE close to the level of Roman Reigns. After winning the Universal Title in August 2020, Reigns is climbing the ranks of the longest World Champions in the company’s history. He has become one of the most dominant stars in the company’s history and now he is being acknowledged in another way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Catch You Later? WWE Star Hints She Might Be Leaving For A Bit A man named Jared Hill has posted a video to TikTok showing he and his new wife walking into their wedding reception. Hill and his wife come into the reception hall as Reigns’ theme music plays, with Hill being handed a late 1990s WWE World Title belt to raise. The bride raises her flowers up at the same time and there is nothing else wrestling related in the video. This is pretty unique. Check out the video, plus what Reigns has been doing lately: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, cli..

Lana Explains Why Vince McMahon Dropped Rusev Day Storyline

At least he had a reason. The biggest wrestling story of the year has been the departure of Vince McMahon from WWE. After nearly four decades of McMahon in charge of the company, he has finally stepped down and handed the reins off to someone else. That has caused quite a few changes and now we have a better idea about one of McMahon’s less well received decisions. CJ Perry, formerly known as Lana in WWE, recently appeared on In The Kliq to talk about some of her time in WWE. Perry mentioned the Rusev Day story, which took place in 2017-18 and saw Rusev become one of the more popular stars in WWE, though he never officially turned good. According to Perry, McMahon never allowed the full turn because he saw Rusev as his “Bulgarian Brute 300 pound crazy villain” and did not want to change his vision. Rusev was released from WWE in April 2020 and debuted in AEW five months later. Opinion: I can see McMahon’s thinking here, but ultimately you need to take a chance at some point. WWE spen..

Roman Reigns Explains Amazing Summerslam Catch

He can do it all. The last two plus years of WWE have been dominated by Roman Reigns. Surrounded by the Bloodline, Reigns has been the Tribal Chief of WWE since he won the Universal Title in August 2019. There is nothing to suggest that he will be losing the title anytime soon, but at one point during his title reign, he did something rather impressive that earned some extra attention. The main event of Summerslam 2022 saw Reigns successfully defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Brock Lesnar. Before the match, Lesnar threw a microphone at Reigns, who caught it with one hand. Reigns was asked about the catch on the Impaulsive podcast and credited the catch to his baseball career. He also winked at Lesnar after the catch, which was not picked up on camera. It was a heck of a catch. Check out Reigns’ one handed catch: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That catch was one of those things that you might not have seen it live but once you see the replay, you..

NXT Results – September 20, 2022

NXT Date: September 20, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett We’re officially into the second year of NXT 2.0 which now seems to be minus the 2.0. Things seem to be moving forward into a new era around here and that should be good for NXT as a whole. I’m not sure what that is going to mean but we do have a #1 contenders match this week between Tyler Bate and JD McDonagh. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Earlier today, Carmelo Hayes and Solo Sikoa came in to see Shawn Michaels and the results of the match last week cannot stand. Sikoa was not the sanctioned challenger and therefore cannot be the North American Champion. The title is handed over and Sikoa hands over the title, with Shawn wishing him luck anywhere he goes. Hayes is ready to have the title handed back to him but Shawn says not so fast. In six weeks at Halloween Havoc, there is a six man ladder match for the title. Axiom vs. Nathan Frazer Match #2 in a best of t..

KB’s Review: Vince Is Gone

So I had a column set up about the upcoming Summerslam title matches and how WWE doesn’t have much of a choice but to do a series of rematches. Odds are you’ll see that one in the future, but the wrestling world being turned upside down. After forty plus years of being in charge, Vince McMahon officially retired from WWE and has handed control over to his daughter Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan. Yeah I think that might be a bit more important than anything happening at Summerslam with its big package of rematches (more on that later) This is the kind of thing that you always knew was going to happen at some point but it’s hard to actually believe it went down. Vince has been the force in WWE and the idea of anyone being in charge of the company is almost impossible to fathom. There is no way to put together Vince’s legacy into anything shorter than a rather long book so this week we’re going to look at some of the high points of his career and what this change might mean for modern W..

Monday Night Raw Results – May 30, 2022

Monday Night Raw Date: May 30, 2022 Location: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, Iowa Commentators: Byron Saxton, Corey Graves, Jimmy Smith It’s the go home show for Hell In A Cell and there are four matches announced for the card. I’m not sure what they are waiting for with adding on more matches, but you have to think that something takes place this week. However, it is also Memorial Day, meaning there is a good chance that very little is going to happen here. Let’s get to it. Here is Becky Lynch to get things going. She hasn’t been out here to start things off in a bit and she knows the people here are glad she has lost everything. Lynch doesn’t care what these people think, because she collects enemies. We flash back to Money in the Bank 2020, with Asuka winning the briefcase. Then Lynch handed her the Raw Women’s Title because she had to go become a mother. That made Asuka a selfish monster….and here is Asuka to interrupt. She mocks Becky for being a baby and promises to win the ti..

Samoa Joe Returns to ROH At Supercard of Honor

The prodigal son has returned. Tonight at the 2022 ROH Supercard of Honor, Samoa Joe made his return to professional wrestling, appearing in the final segment of the show. You can see the return below: WHAT A RETURN TO #ROH WE ARE WITNESSING RIGHT NOW! @SamoaJoe just arrived and business has picked up! What an incredible night it has been at #SupercardofHonor! pic.twitter.com/P5ssPlI333 — ROH Wrestling (@ringofhonor) April 2, 2022 Joe appeared after Jonathan Gresham defeated Bandido to become the new undisputed ROH champion. Bandido handed him his belt and helped him celebrate his victory before leaving the ring. Gresham closed the show with a speech, but he was interrupted by Jay Lethal. The show ended with Lethal and Sonjay Dutt attacking Gresham until Joe showed up. He choked Dutt out while Lethal watched. [h/t to Bleacher Report] Joe has not been seen in professional wrestling since late 2021 when he was forced to vacate the NXT championship after being sidelined with an inj..

WATCH: Triple H vs. Randy Orton From WrestleMania XXV (25)

The protege seeks revenge. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Triple H and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship from WrestleMania XXV (25). You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The match began with not one bang, but two, as Triple H and Orton both hit their patented maneuvers (the Pedigree and RKO respectively) within moments of the contest’s start. The Game dominated the early match, prompting The Legend Killer to move the fight outside of the ring. Keenly aware of the stipulation that would have the WWE Championship change hands on a disqualification or count-out, Orton hoped to leave his opponent battered and broken outside the ring as the referee counted to 10. But Triple H was running on pure fury, repeatedly coming back from the third-generation Superstar’s underhanded tactics. With his options running out, Orton took out the referee, giving himself a few..

REVIEW: WCW Monday Nitro – February 22, 1999: Are They Serious?

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Nitro #180 Date: February 22, 1999 Location: Arco Arena, Sacramento, California Attendance: 13,921 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko We’re FINALLY past SuperBrawl and things couldn’t be much lower for WCW if they handed all the wrestlers shovels and told them to dig their own graves. Hogan is still World Champion, Windham and Hennig are Tag Team Champions, Scott Hall is US Champion, Scott Steiner is TV Champion, and Rey Mysterio doesn’t have a mask. We’ve got three weeks ..

RUMOR KILLER On AEW’s Women’s Division Being Limited

That’s a different take for AEW. The Women’s Revolution has changed the way women’s wrestling works in a very positive way. After years of women’s wrestling having next to no value whatsoever, it is now treated as something with value throughout the wrestling world. It is fascinating to see how far it has come, but what if someone with some more pull does not like it as much? Fightful Select has an update on WarnerMedia’s, the parent company of TNT and TBS, stance on women’s wrestling on AEW television. Last year, a rumor began circulating that WarnerMedia had only allowed one women’s match on any show on their networks. According to Fightful Select, there was no such rule ever handed down and there was no request or suggestion about less women’s wrestling to AEW. All that WarnerMedia cares about is “good content” and having high social or TV ratings. WATCH: Dream Match Teased During WWE UK Tour

I’m interested. There are a lot of wrestlers under the WWE umbrella and one of the most important things that the company needs to do is fine a way to get the right combination of them together. That can be trickier than it seems, but sometimes the company is handed a match that makes all the sense in the world. It seems to be the case again and this time WWE seems to be acting on one of them. During the WWE’s current tour of the United Kingdom, former NXT United Kingdom Champion Walter was standing in the ring following his match. As Walter was posing, Finn Balor’s music hit and the two had a staredown as they passed. This would suggest that the two of them may be in line for a future match. The two had teased a match in NXT but nothing ever came of it. Yeah this works. Check out Balor’s interruption plus the two in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is clearly a ma..

Details On Charlotte’s Backstage Heat In WWE

They took some time getting here. With so many talented wrestlers on the WWE roster, it makes sense that there are going to be some issues at some point. Eventually some people are going to rub each other the wrong way, but it can be even worse if one person rubs several the wrong way. That seems to be the case now, and it has been building for a long time. Last week, a story emerged about a backstage altercation between Becky Lynch and Charlotte. The issue began when Charlotte literally dropped the Raw Women’s Title as she handed it to Becky Lynch, which Lynch believed made her look bad. This caused a backstage backlash against Charlotte, but now we know a bit more about how bad things have been getting. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the backstage heat on Charlotte has been building for a long time. It is said to be several little things together, including Charlotte wrestling as a heel but doing babyface moves, such as dives. As a result, babyface women have had i..

VIDEO: New Stable Debuts In NXT With Surprising Return

Welcome back/nice to meet you. Sometimes a wrestler needs a fresh coat of paint and it can be rather easy to put them together with someone else. You can do this in the form of a tag team, but other times, one of the best ideas available is for a few people to be put together into a unit. That seems to be the case again on NXT, as some people have formed a new group. This week’s NXT saw the debut of the Diamond Mine, a stable which had been teased for several weeks. The Diamond Mine debuted at the end of the show, with the three members attacking Kushida following the show’s main event. With Kushida laid out, the group revealed itself as Roderick Strong, Tyler Rust and Hideki Suzuki, the latter of whom was making his NXT debut. Malcolm Bivens was revealed as the team’s manager and handed Strong the Cruiserweight Title. Strong has been absent from NXT since April 13 when he took a hiatus after the Undisputed Era came to an end. When Strong left, General Manager William Regal said that..

NXT Results – August 12, 2020

NXT Date: August 12, 2020 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Beth Phoenix, Mauro Ranallo We’re coming up on Takeover and that means most of the card is either set or more or less set. We still need to figure out what the heck is going on with the ladder match as last week saw a change to the lineup. Other than that, we have the build towards Karrion Kross vs. Keith Lee in the big hoss fight. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Karrion Kross vs. Danny Burch We get the full entrance for Kross. Burch says ring the bell and goes right at Kross with a dropkick. A clothesline puts Kross on the floor but Kross pulls him outside and hits a two handed chokeslam. Back in and Kross talks trash while slowly hammering away, as should be the case with him. There’s the exploder but Burch manages an enziguri out of the corner. Burch hits the missile dropkick out of the corner into a German suplex. A second German suplex sets up the Crossface but Kross rol..

What Are Mainstream Reporters Not Allowed To Say When Covering WWE Events?

I guess you need to know what to say. According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, prior to WWE’s press conference in which they made the announcement of Wrestlemania 36, the company handed a series of do’s and don’ts to the mainstream media reporters that were covering the event. It contained a set of instructions about the verbiage that media outlets can and cannot use when writing reports about WWE. Here is the list: 1) When referring to our talent, we ask that you refer to them as WWE Superstars both for the men and women and NOT as “professional wrestlers;” 2) As of March 2016, our female Superstars are NO longer referred to as WWE Divas, so please call them WWE Superstars; 3) Please refer to our company as WWE and NOT World Wrestling Entertainment; 4) Please do not refer to our company as “the WWE,” but rather “WWE.” 5) Please do NOT use the term “professional wrestling,” instead using WWE or Sports Entertainment to describe our brand (E.G. “We have..

Vince McMahon Returns To Raw This Monday To “Shake Things Up”

When the boss comes around, you know that things are about to go down. According to a new report from WWE.com, Vince McMahon will be making his return to Raw next Monday night, December 17. This appearance will take place one night after the 2018 TLC pay-per-view event. The Chairman made an appearance on Raw in January of 2018, on the 25th anniversary episode. You can see a clip of that below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The landmark appearance of The Chairman comes one night after WWE TLC, where Corbin intends to be named the permanent General Manager of Raw following a forfeit victory over the injured Braun Strowman in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match, per the stipulation handed down by Commissioner Stephanie McMahon. However, rumors abound that The Monster Among Men could make an appearance at this Sunday’s WWE TLC event and stop The Lone Wolf from assuming total control of Team Red. With Mr. McMahon’s return imminent, however, Corbin could have a l..

Cody Reveals Which Legacy Member He Was “Incredibly Jealous” Of

Cody [Rhodes] was a guest on Edge & Christian’s Podcast of Awesomeness where the former ROH Champion revealed which Legacy member he was incredibly jealous of during their time as a team. Cody opens up by explaining why Rey Mysterio means so much to him, recalling what the former WWE Champion had done for him: “I have a Wookiee life debt to Rey Mysterio and he doesn’t even know it. Rey was kind of the one who ribbed me and brought me into the office that day with Vince [McMahon] and said, ‘I want to work Cody at WrestleMania – he [has] got some good ideas.’ And I did, thank God. And that’s where I think Vince kind of even played me. He said, like, ‘oh, do you have it on paper?’ and I actually had it on paper in my bag and I handed it to him. And after that, he kind of just grumbled and I got a ‘yes’ out of that grumble. I owe Rey everything I have, man. He [doesn’t] even know. He [doesn’t] even spell my name right, C-O-D-E-Y. That’s got to be a rib.” The Bullet Club’s “American Nightm..

Wrestlemania IV Review: A Really Long Tournament

On February 5, 1988, Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan for the WWF World Title in a big of an underhanded way. This was part of a much bigger plan formed by newcomer Ted DiBiase, the Million Dollar Man. DiBiase had stated his intentions to buy the title from Hogan but when that had fallen through, DiBiase decided to back Andre and then buy the title. During the match, Andre suplexed Hulk down and Hogan kicked out at two but DiBiase’s master plan kicked in as referee Dave Hebner counted the pin while Hogan’s shoulder was clearly off the mat. Somehow Andre was declared the new WWF World (Tag Team according to Andre after the match) Champion and immediately tried to sell the belt to DiBiase. Ted was named the new champion and celebrated as….Dave Hebner came out. There were two Dave Hebners with the theory being that DiBiase had paid someone to receive plastic surgery to look like Hebner and impersonate him during the match (of course this was Dave’s twin brother Earl). Somehow t..

Major Update on Austin Aries’ Release from WWE

<p>It was previously reported via Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/austin-aries" title="Austin Aries">Austin Aries</a></strong> asked for his release from WWE and the company granted it. The word is that a lot of the writing staff didn’t like him and he appeared to be thrilled when he was handed his release because he wasn’t happy with his current position on the roster.</p><p>In regards to his future, Aries can still use his name outside of WWE because he used it <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/prior/" title="prior">prior</a></strong> to signing with the company.
