Renee Paquette (Young) Makes AEW Debut In Familiar Role
Welcome to the team. There are a lot of important roles in a wrestling show and some of them do not get the credit that they deserve. One of the most important groups is the broadcast team, including the backstage interviewers. They are often there to guide the fans in a certain directions with the questions that they ask and one of the better interviewers around today is no longer a free agent. AEW President Tony Khan has announced that Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young) has officially signed a deal with the company and joined the broadcast team. Paquette made her debut this week on Dynamite and conducted multiple interviews throughout the show. It’s one of the important parts. There are all kinds of things that come together to make a wrestling show work. While the wrestlers themselves are the most important part, commentary plays a very important role as well. They serve as the fans’ guide throughout the show and take the stories where they are supposed to go. Now one of the most important commentary teams will be changing. According to Variety.com, WWE is making changes to all of its commentary teams. First, Michael Cole and Wade Barrett will be calling SmackDown, with Barrett replacing Corey Graves, who was filling in for Pat McAfee, who is on hiatus. Monday Night Raw will be called by Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves, with Byron Saxton and the returning Cathy Kelley conducting interviews. Wrestling Entertainment Series, a new promotion based in the United Kingdom, has announced that former WWE broadcasters Jonathan Coachman and Matthew Rehwoldt, also known as Aiden English, will be the company’s new commentary team. This marks Coachman’s first wrestling appearance since 2018, when he was part of the Monday Night Raw commentary team. They have a plan for that. As has been the case for about two years now, the Coronavirus pandemic is one of the biggest stories in the world. The wrestling industry has taken a beating of its own, as promotions are trying to figure out the best way going forward. This is certainly the case in WWE as well, and now we know more about what the company is doing about the situation. Earlier this week, news broke that WWE was changing its Coronavirus policy by ending mandatory regular testing. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the new policy is said to be similar to the NFL’s. WWE is requiring that any wrestler who tests positive take an antigen test on the fifth day. Should they pass two such tests twenty four hours apart, they will be allowed to return to work. Money in the Bank is typically the pay-per-view event that we see in June, in which competitors attempt to climb a ladder and retrieve a briefcase that guarantees them a shot at a world title. However, that will not be the case this year. Tonight at the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view event, WWE aired a promo announcing that their next event will in fact be Hell in a Cell, which will stream exclusively on Peacock on Sunday, June 20.
