That would have been different. There are several titles under the WWE banner these days and some of them are among the most important championships in wrestling history. Some of those former champions are quite the legends of the company and it means a lot for them to show up every so often. Now a current WWE star is revealing a plan he had to honor one of those former champions. In a recent post on TikTok, Miz talked about a plan he had to drop the Intercontinental Title to the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania. While he held the title, Miz wanted to defeat all former Intercontinental Champions at WrestleMania in a gauntlet lumberjack match. The Warrior would enter as a surprise final entrant and defeat Miz to win the title in short order. Miz said he tried to make this happen but could never pull it off. Welcome back. NXT is in a unique place as it is both the WWE’s in-house developmental system as well as its own wrestling show. Therefore, they have to find new ways to introduce stars and fresh faces, some of whom have been around before and are returning after a hiatus. You can see some of those returns every so often and there were several this week alone. Since it is the Christmas season, the main event is a Miracle On 34th Street Fight as Ricochet and Braun Strowman vs. Imperium, but we also have a gauntlet match for a future Women’s Title match. Xia Li beat Emma and Tegan Nox. Raquel defeated Li, Liv Morgan, and Sonya Deville to win the match. Shayna Baszler came out as a surprise entrant, but Rodriguez defeated her as well. Bray Wyatt came out and said that LA Knight owes him an apology. He ends up attacking the camera man. Rey Mysterio defeated Angel of Los Lotharios. That means we need to start getting ready for whatever the December show will be, plus Hard To Kill. The latter of these shows will likely be headlined by Bully Ray challenging Josh Alexander for the World Title, but we need something else besides that. Let’s get to it. The opening recap looks at Bully Ray teasing being good and then going all evil as he goes after the World Title. She’s up next. WWE has been expanding its slate of large scale shows in stadiums, meaning there are multiple events that need big time cards. The most common way to do this is with championship matches and there are several to pick from at any given point in WWE. Another of those was added to the lineup this week, as a new championship match was set for an upcoming major event. This week on SmackDown, Shayna Baszler won a gauntlet match to become the new #1 contender to the SmackDown Women’s Title. The match featured seven women, with Baszler last eliminating Raquel Rodriguez. Baszler will receive her title shot against champion Liv Morgan at Clash At The Castle in Cardiff, Wales on September 3. This will be Baszler’s first televised shot at a singles title since Money In The Bank 2020. Opinion: I have long since wondered how Baszler never won a singles title in WWE. Put it up. With less than two weeks to go before WWE Money in the Bank, it is time for WWE to start hammering down the rest of the card. There are not a ton of wrestlers free due to the ladder matches, but there are enough stories set up to make the show work. Now we have another match set up after several weeks of it being teased before being made official. This week on Monday Night Raw, a United States Title match was officially added to the Money in the Bank card, with Bobby Lashley earning a title shot against Theory. Lashley and Theory have attacked each other in recent weeks, with Theory saying that Lashley could have a title shot if he won a three man gauntlet match. Lashley went on to defeat Chad Gable, Otis and Theory himself, setting up the title match. It was nice while it lasted. WWE has an interesting history when it comes to tag teams. While there have been several teams throughout the years, WWE has an odd fascination with splitting them up. Usually this leads to a feud between the two and that might be the case again this time, as another team has split up after having things go badly during a match. This week’s edition of NXT was headlined by a five team gauntlet match to crown new NXT Tag Team Champions. Grayson Waller and Sanga took part in the match but were eliminated by the Creed Brothers. After the show, Waller said that he was finished with Sanga, both professionally and personally. Waller also revealed that he had been faking his arm injury from Stand & Deliver. Waller’s announcement to end his three month association with Sanga, which has seen Sanga serve as Waller’s bodyguard. I guess he wasn’t pleased. New and new champions. Titles are one of the most important things in wrestling and that has been the case in NXT since its inception. NXT has managed to make its titles feel as important as anything else and that is something that has done a lot of good for the promotion. A title change is a big deal and that is the case again, as some new champions have been crowned. This week’s NXT featured a gauntlet match to crown new NXT Tag Team Champions. Pretty Deadly, in their NXT debut match, won the five team match, last eliminating the Creed Brothers. The other teams involved were Legado del Fantasma, Josh Briggs/Brooks Jensen and Grayson Waller/Sanga. The titles were vacated after MSK were stripped of the titles due to Nash Carter being released. Opinion: NXT had to put the titles on someone and this is one of the best calls that they could have made. NXT Date: April 12, 2022 Location: Capitol Sports Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett It’s another huge week around here as we have a series of title matches. This includes a guaranteed new champion as the vacant Tag Team Titles are on the line in a gauntlet match. Other than that, there are two title matches as the North American and Women’s Titles are on the line as well. Let’s get to it. The opening recap looks at Bron Breakker retaining the NXT Title over Gunther to send him to Smackdown, only to have Joe Gacy and Harland kidnap Breakker’s father Rick Steiner. North American Title: Cameron Grimes vs. Solo Sikoa Grimes is defending and misses a running kick to the face to start. Sikoa’s waistlock is countered into an armbar and Sikoa can’t do much to get out of it. The hold is finally broken up so they shake hands, though Grimes says Sikoa’s Bloodline can kiss his grits. Universal Champion Roman Reigns has announced that he has tested positive for Coronavirus, meaning that he is out of his title defense against Brock Lesnar. Worry not though, as Lesnar is now in a five way for the WWE Title. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Ridge Holland/Sheamus vs. Cesaro/Ricochet Sheamus has called Holland the replacement for Cesaro in the Bar, while Ricochet eliminated Sheamus from a recent gauntlet match. Cesaro starts with Sheamus, who bails into the corner and brings Holland in. That’s fine with Cesaro, who hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, followed by assisting Ricochet for a flipping stomp to Holland. That looked BAD as Ricochet’s boot hit him right in the face. The card grows. We are only a few days away from the end of the year and that means WWE is almost ready to air its next pay per view offering. In this case, it’s Day One, which will be taking place on the first day of the year. That means the card needs to be a strong one, and now we know how things are going to get going, with the first match of 2022 looking interesting. WWE has announced that Cesaro and Ricochet vs. Ridge Holland and Sheamus will serve as the Kickoff Show match for Day One. This comes after Cesaro has had issues with Holland and Sheamus for several weeks, while Ricochet fought Sheamus in the 12 Days of Christmas gauntlet match.
