Rampage Date: February 17, 2023 Location: Saves Auto Arena, Laredo, Texas Commentators: Jim Ross, Chris Jericho, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur It’s a special show this week with the show on at 7pm instead of the usual 10pm due to the NBA coverage. Therefore the show is call Slam Dunk as AEW stacks the card because it might be able to draw a good bit more fans this week. Hopefully that is the case as Rampage hasn’t felt important in a few weeks now. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Trios Titles: Elite vs. AR Fox/Top Flight The Elite is defending and since this is Slam Dunk, there are a lot basketballs as props. Dante and Nick start things off by throwing a basketball at each other. Nick hits Matt in the face with the ball by mistake though and the champs are kicked out to the floor early on. Joey Janela Rips AEW Dark, Calls It “Stale A**”
He isn’t a fan. AEW has only been around for a few years now but they have already had a number of stars who have shown up, stuck around for a good while, and then left. Many of them have good things to say about their time in the company, but now one former AEW star does not have the best things to say about one major aspect about AEW’s weekly schedule. Former AEW star Joey Janela took to Twitter this week to praise the Rey Fenix vs. AR Fox match from the most recent edition of AEW Dark. In addition, Janela criticized the format of the show, which is mostly focused on one sided squash matches. Janela said that stale matches meant nothing in 20222 and described the show as stale. He also said that he would not want to waste time watching a show like Dark as a fan. Janela wrestled from AEW from 2019-2022. They’re doing something right. WWE is a huge wrestling company and its two flagship programs air on major networks. This includes SmackDown on FOX and Monday Night Raw on USA, both of which receive major attention every single week. While Monday Night Raw and NXT are on the USA Network on Monday and Tuesday, Friday features SmackDown on the FOX Network. Vince McMahon Now Under Federal Investigation; Hastened His Retirement
It had been previously reported that WWE had made a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, announcing that Vince McMahon had paid $14.6 million that were not recorded as company expenses. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the SEC and federal prosecutors have launched inquiries into payments made by McMahon to settle allegations of sexual misconduct. The report states that the payments were made from 2006 through 2022. WWE has said McMahon “has or will pay” all the expenses personally, and it expects to revise previous financial statements going back to 2019 to reflect the payments. WWE also said that an internal board investigation “expects to conclude that its internal control over financial reporting was not effective as a result of one or more material weaknesses.” WWE has lucrative licensing deals with entertainment giants such as Fox Corp. and NBCUniversal, which could be at risk due to these allegations. Fans are now able to see all of the content that they want with almost no limitations, as wrestling from around the world is now open before them.
