They just made the list. There are so many wrestlers on the WWE roster that it is difficult to keep track of everyone. That is the case for wrestling fans on a regular basis but there are also problems for the wrestling promotions on occasions. At the same time, there are ways for promotions to make this easier, and now we have a better idea of how WWE sees a lot of its stars. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s A Matter Of Time: Interesting Detail On Lita’s WWE Return According to a list released by PWInsider.com by way of Bodyslam.net, here are the male wrestlers that WWE sees as the top five babyfaces and heels on SmackDown: Heels 1. Roman Reigns 2. Karrion Kross 3. Solo Sikoa 4. Gunther 5. LA Knight Babyfaces 1. Bray Wyatt 2. Sami Zayn 3. Drew McIntyre 4. Braun Strowman 5. Rey Mysterio And here is the same list for the female wrestlers on SmackDown: Heels 1. Ronda Rousey 2. Shayna Baszler 3. Sonya Deville 4. Lacey Evans 5. Xia Li Babyfaces 1. Charlotte 2. Liv Morgan 3. Raquel Rodrig..
She’s #1! One of the most common things that you see among wrestling fans is a discussion of the best wrestlers. At one point or another, every fan has debated something about wrestling, often over who the best is at any given thing. You occasionally get something official, or in this case something close to it, as a wrestler has won a rather prestigious award. Pro Wrestling Illustrated has released its annual PWI Women’s 150, ranking the top 150 female wrestlers in the world over the period of October 1, 2021 – September 30, 2022. the award is based on a mixture of success, influence, in-ring ability, competition and more. The list has been released since 2008 and this is the first time that a woman from a non-North American promotion has ranked #1. Here is the top ten: 1. Syuri (Stardom) 2. Bianca Belair (WWE) 3. Thunder Rosa (AEW) 4. Becky Lynch (WWE) 5. Jade Cargill (AEW) 6. Jordynne Grace (Impact Wrestling) 7. Saya Kamitani (Stardom) 8. Charlotte Flair (WWE) 9. Starlight Kid (St..
They liked what they saw. NXT superstar Roxanne Perez made her main roster debut this past week on Smackdown, teaming with Shotzi and Raquel Rodriguez to take on Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky of Damage Control. According to reports from both Wrestling News and PWInsider, WWE officials were very impressed with what they saw from Perez and plan on continuing to use her on the main roster again very soon. Perez has had quite the rise in professional wrestling since beginning her training at Booker T’s wrestling school at the age of 16. She debuted for Ring of Honor in April 2021 at the age of 19, winning the inaugural ROH Women’s World Championship and becoming the youngest female champion in company history. She would debut in NXT in April 2022 at the age of 20. Editor’s Opinion: There are some sueprstars that just have natural talent, and she appears to be one of them. I’ve always been a big fan of her work and now that she’s having the opportunity to show the world what she can d..
They might need someone new. We are coming up on Survivor Series, which will feature a pair of WarGames matches, with one involving men and another involving women. That means each match will involve two groups of wrestlers, some of which will possibly be a previously established stable. Some of those are already around, and now one of them might be interested in getting a new member. This week on Monday Night Raw, the OC (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) returned to WWE, reuniting with AJ Styles to help him in his fight against Judgment Day. According to Xero News, WWE is considering adding a woman to the Styles/OC group to face Judgment Day at Survivor Series. This is NOT a confirmed match and there is no word on who the woman might be. Early talks A pitch has been made for Team Wyatt Vs Bloodline This year for Survivor Series Alongside this WWE is looking to do Judgement Day vs The OC and a mystery Female These are both very early pitches. — Xero News (@NewsXero) Octo..
Welcome back. Over the last few years, WWE has released or let go dozens and dozens of wrestlers from its active roster, with the majority being attributed to budget cuts. Since Vince McMahon has retired though, several of those names have returned to the company in one way or another. That is the case again, as another name is being brought back in an entirely new role. This week on SmackDown, a vignette aired hinting at the return of the Viking Raiders. At the end of the vignette, a female voice was heard but no one was seen. According to Fightful Select, the segment was designed to re-introduce Sarah Logan, who is married to Erik and was released from WWE in 2020. Logan returned to WWE in a one night appearance at the 2022 Royal Rumble. Opinion: Cool. Logan is someone who seemed like she could have been a star if she was given the chance but never got a real shot. Putting her in a team with her husband should work well and I could go for seeing her get a spot like this. If nothing..
It’s an opportunity. While WWE has a lot of television time to fill, there are only so many spots for the wrestlers to fight over. The top stars have their spots almost guaranteed, but at some point a change might need to be made in order to bring up someone new. That was the case earlier this month, but it turns out that it was more a matter of necessity than anything else. Back at Money In The Bank, Liv Morgan won the show’s namesake match and cashed in her briefcase later in the night to win the SmackDown Women’s Title. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the change took place partially due to Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out on WWE back in May. The company needed a new top female star and the fans had shown enough support for Morgan to give her the spot. Morgan is set to defend her title against Ronda Rousey at Summerslam. Opinion: I don’t think it’s that hard to fathom that WWE didn’t want to push Morgan in the first place given her track record, but at least she is..
More to come on that. There have been a lot of WWE stories this year but none of them come close to the official investigation into Vince McMahon over allegations of sexual misconduct. The accusations have already caused McMahon to step back from his leadership role in WWE and caused people to look back into his history. Now things might be about to get even worse. According to PWInsider.com, mainstream news outlets are looking to introduce new stories about the McMahon allegations. Some of the possible outlets to look into the situation are HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel and the Wall Street Journal. There is no word on when the stories could come out, though the Wall Street Journal should be in the next few weeks. Both are looking to talk to former female WWE wrestlers. Opinion: This is something that you had to know was coming and that is not a bad thing. McMahon has been accused of a lot of things and now people are starting to talk about what those things might be. I’m not ..
He should be fine. WWE continues to be shaken by the allegations against Vince McMahon and the investigations that have followed. McMahon is accused of sexual misconduct with several women, as well as paying them to sign non-disclosure agreements. This is one of the biggest scandals in years in WWE, but McMahon is not the only person accused in the situation. In addition to McMahon being implicated in the scandal, John Laurinaitis was mentioned as well, with the first woman mentioned said to have been “passed” to Laurinaitis “like a toy”. According to Fightful Select, Laurinaitis is considered done in WWE, but is said to have a golden parachute financial package. Female wrestlers were said to be upset that he was named Head of Talent Relations again last year. Opinion: Laurinaitis being gone from the company is not exactly a surprise as he did not seem to be the most popular name in the place. At the same time, he is someone who is a bit more replaceable in WWE and that might have ha..
So much for that. There are a lot of powerful and influential people in the wrestling world and then there is Vince McMahon. No one in the history of wrestling has come close to his level of authority and it is likely no one will ever get close again. That is the kind of status that can change the industry and now something McMahon has been accused of doing is changing something in another company. According to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, the McMahon Netflix documentary series has been pulled and will not be airing. The documentary was in post production with interviews filmed several months ago and millions of dollars spent. This comes after new allegations of hush payments made by McMahon to various female WWE employees over affairs with McMahon over the years. Sources tell me that the Vince McMahon Netflix documentary has been pulled & is off the programming spreadsheet at Netflix. A source at Netflix confirmed it no longer being listed on their spreadsheet, another source..
It’s their identity. Theme music is one of the most important parts of a wrestler’s presentation. Without the right song, a wrestler might not be presented in the right way and that can cause them all kinds of problems. A theme song sets the mood for a wrestler and now one of the more established names in WWE is shaking things up a bit with a new theme song. This week on Monday Night Raw, Alexa Bliss defeated Shayna Baszler for the second week in a row. Prior to the match, Bliss debuted a new theme song, replacing the music that she had used for most of her main roster career. The song included lyrics, marking a change from Bliss’ normal music. This was the second straight appearance for Bliss on Monday Night Raw, following three months of inactivity. Opinion: The new song is a change of pace for Bliss, and that might be just what she needs. Her time as the female version of the Fiend was not the most well received and it is nice to see WWE getting further and further away from that ..
That’s a specific list. Wrestling is a visual medium, as stars are going to need to look a certain way to make fans want to see what they are doing. This can come in a variety of ways and WWE is known for caring about appearance more than a lot of other things. That can create some issues, and now WWE has made a rule about a specific change of appearance for some wrestlers. According to Fightful Select, WWE has issued a list of wrestlers allowed to get haircuts, which has leaked online. This list is wrestlers whose haircuts have been approved in advance, though there is nothing to suggest that wrestlers not listed are not allowed to have their hair cut in general. There are no female wrestlers included on the list. Here is the list of names: RAW: AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, Cody Rhodes, Damien Priest, Dolph Ziggler, Edge, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Miz, Randy Orton, Riddle, Seth Rollins Smackdown: Drew McIntyre, Happy Corbin, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Kofi Kingston, Madcap Moss, Paul Heyman, ..
The callups continue. This week’s episode of Smackdown featured a number of returns and call-ups from NXT, including Gunther and Marcel Barthel, now known as Ludwig Kaiser. Raquel Gonzalez also made her debut this week, but this is not the name that she will be going by. Introduced in a backstage segment with Los Lotharios, Gonzalez will now be known as Raquel Rodriguez on the blue brand. You can see her debut below: [This post contains video, click to play] Dakota Kai recently reunited with Gonzalez on NXT 2.0 and recently defeated Toxic Attraction members Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship during the Kickoff pre-show of NXT Stand & Deliver. However, in their first title defense on the following episode of NXT 2.0, Kai and Gonzalez lost the titles back to Toxic Attraction due to Mandy Rose’s interference. Editor’s Opinion: This is awesome. I’ve always thought that she was one of the top female competitors in all of WWE and now gets her opportunit..
There is some interest there. AEW has changed the wrestling landscape in a great way as there is now a new place for all kinds of wrestlers to go. Several former WWE stars have wound up in AEW, with some of them already being more successful. It can be interesting to see someone new show up and that might be the case again as AEW has been talking to someone else. According to Fightful Select, AEW and Athena, formerly known as Ember Moon, have had at least “light talks” about Athena being brought in to the company. The discussions are described as a “feeling out” process, though there is nothing to suggest that she will be brought in anytime soon. Athena was released from WWE on November 4, 2021 and has only wrestled twice since. Opinion: This is something I could see happening but it is by no means a sure thing. Athena seems happy with taking things slowly and maybe that does not mean jumping straight into AEW. The company already has a ton of female wrestlers and Athena would be in ..
She’s good at that too. Wrestlers get a bad reputation when it comes to athleticism. While they are certainly athletes, they are often looked at differently because the matches they take part in are pre-determined. That is something that can make people skeptical of what they can do athletically, but it can be made better when you see them succeed elsewhere. That was the case again this week. Impact Wrestling’s Jordynne Grace announced on twitter that she competed at the Owen’s Gym Unsanctioned Power Lifting Meet over the weekend, winning first in her class in her weight class and overall while being named the strongest female at the competition. Her team also won the Team Award. Grace regularly competes in power lifting competitions and has won awards and trophies in previous efforts. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jordynne Grace (@jordynnegrace) Opinion: That is the kind of thing that you do not get to see very often and it makes what Grace can do that much more impr..
She did it again. Wrestling is a little bit different when it comes to records as it is a little bit difficult to buy what a wrestling promotion or a wrestler says happened. It can get a little confusing with everything going on and how many different ways a company likes to stretch the truth, but sometimes you can get some outside sources. That is the case again for a pretty impressive WWE milestone. Guinness World Records has announced that WWE’s Natalya has officially set the record for most matches won by a woman in the history of the company. As of November 2021, Natalya won her 641st match, which means the record breaking win could have come on November 10 at a live event in Manchester, England or in a tag match on the November 19 SmackDown. This comes less than two months after Natalya was certified as having the most matches and pay per view appearances by a woman in WWE history. She's made the most PPV appearances and had the most matches for a female in WWE history… N..
They want different things. We are in a period of change for WWE and a lot of those changes have been due to the company releasing all kinds of wrestlers. The reason is said to be that WWE wants younger stars for the future rather than established names. However, it seems that there are some differences between the kinds of wrestlers that WWE is hoping to recruit. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has different priorities when it comes to signing male or female wrestlers. WWE is said to be looking for bigger male wrestlers, with shorter wrestlers not likely to be brought in. When it comes to women, WWE is more interested in looks, and will be more likely to hire women who are “good looking” or can do something special in the ring. WWE has signed several wrestlers over the years. Check out some of the better debuts: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I don’t think this i..
Those are just awesome. Every now and then, you see a character in wrestling who catches your attention like no other. Fans can tell that they are going to be in for something that they have not seen before who lets you see a new direction for a character. Some of these are just downright awesome and it turns out that we almost saw two very different versions of two popular characters. Kyle. A Scarborough, a tattoo artist who helped design the Fiend’s mask, has tweeted out two pieces of concept art for characters who almost made it to WWE television. First up was a mixture of a mask/makeup that Alexa Bliss would have worn as a female version of the Fiend. The other is what would have been a humanoid Huskus the Pig, as an idea had been pitched to have the Firefly Fun House characters come to life, but only with Bray Wyatt playing them. Neither ever made it to television and Wyatt has been released from the company. Fun Fact: During the beginning of @AlexaBliss_WWE's run with #The..
That is quite the honor. WWE women’s wrestling has come a long way in the last few years and a lot of that is due to the Women’s Revolution. After years of being treated as little more than a sideshow, women’s wrestling has become mainstream in the industry, with several female wrestlers becoming top stars in the company. Now one of the bigger names is getting some special recognition. Pro Wrestling Illustrated has announced the top five names in their annual PWI Women’s 150. The list was topped by WWE’s Bianca Belair, who won the SmackDown Women’s Title in the main event of the first night of WrestleMania 37 and held the title until Summerslam. Here is the top five: 1. Bianca Belair 2. Utami Hayashishita 3. Deonna Purrazzo 4. Britt Baker 5. Thunder Rosa The list covers the span of time from October 1, 2020 – September 30, 2021 and is based on the following criteria: • In-Ring Achievement (championships, tournaments, win-loss record) • Influence (in one’s home promotion and the ind..
