REVIEW: WWF WrestleFest 91: Contains A Hidden Gem

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? WrestleFest 1991 Host: Randy Savage Commentators: Lord Alfred Hayes, Sean Mooney Sometimes you need to get away from weekly TV and do some good(ish) old fashioned Coliseum Video. That’s what we have here, with another compilation tape released in July 1991. You never know what you might get on here but that can make for some interesting watches. Let’s get to it. Randy Savage: Man Of Leisure (as the graphic says) is sitting by the pool as the audio from his career ending loss at Wrestlemania VII plays in his head...

There She Goes: Former WWE Star Officially Announces Retirement From Wrestling

Everyone does it eventually. Retirement is a tricky subject in wrestling, as you never know how long it might be before someone finally hangs up their boots. In an industry where everyone can come back for one more match, it is difficult to find someone who truly retires. Several wrestlers say that they are though and that is the case with another former WWE star. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Titles To Be Split Very Soon Former NXT UK star Jinny has announced via Twitter that she is retiring from professional wrestling. This comes after Jinny has been out of action for several months with an injury. Her most recent match took place on November 18, 2011, though it is not clear when her injury took place or what it was. It is also not clear if Jinny was one of several NXT UK wrestlers released when the promotion was shut down in September 2022. After a long time away due to an injury, I have made the decision to hang up my fashionable boots. Thank you for all the memor..

WRESTLING RUMOR: WWE Interested In Signing Second Generation Star

The next generation. One of the most important things a wrestling promotion can do is make sure that there is fresh talent being brought in. At some point the older wrestlers have to be phased out of the spotlight with new stars being moved up. That does not work if the stars are not brought in at some point and now WWE might have their eyes on another second generation star. LOOK: Bianca Belair Enters Fashion And Fitness Competition (And SMASHES It)

It suits her. There are some incredible athletes in wrestling and a lot of them do not get the credit that they deserve for being so skilled at what they do. A big part of this is their fitness and athleticism, both of which can be overlooked. Sometimes you will see a wrestler get the accolades that they deserve for their efforts and another one certainly did that recently. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Just Not Quite: WWE Legend On Why Shelton Benjamin Didn’t Become A Main Event Star Monday Night Raw’s Bianca Belair revealed on Instagram that she participated in a recent WBFF (World Beauty Fitness And Fashion) event. That Explains It: Backstage Reason For Awkward SmackDown Spot

It didn’t work so well. Wrestlers have a very difficult job to do as they have quite a few things to do every time they go to the ring. At the same time, they are doing these things in front of a live audience with no replays. Sometimes a mistake will take place and unfortunately some of them can be seen rather clearly. Now we know what likely caused a recent one. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Two WWE Stars Pay Off A World Series Bet In Hilarious Fashion This week on SmackDown, Shotzi won a Six Pack Challenge to become the new #1 contender to the SmackDown Women’s Title. During the match, Liv Morgan dove at Raquel Rodriguez in an attempt to drive her through a table, but the dive was left short and the table was barely grazed. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this was the result of miscommunication, as the original spot called for the table to be in a different place. Morgan apparently was not told about the change, resulting in her leaving the dive short by mistake. There is n..

WATCH: Two WWE Stars Pay Off A World Series Bet In Hilarious Fashion

Time to pay it off. Wrestlers have a lot to do to get ready for their time in the ring and sometimes it can be a big overwhelming. It can help to have a little help with some of the more mundane tasks and some wrestlers can get that assistance. Two WWE stars were in one of those roles each as the result of a recent bet, and now we get to see just how far things went. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Rey Mysterio Out Of Action With An Injury WWE has posted a video from backstage at this week’s SmackDown, where Drew Gulak had to do everything that Raquel Rodriguez told him to do throughout the day. This is the result of Gulak losing a World Series bet to Rodriguez when his Philadelphia Phillies lost to Rodriguez’s Houston Astros. As a result, Gulak had to do things such as open Rodriguez’s door, get her lunch, shine her boots and bring her water after her match. It’s certainly different. Wrestling Fans Erupt Over Controversial Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley Ending

I don’t think that was the plan. There are a lot of things that need to come together to make a wrestling match work but sometimes all of the planning in the world might not be enough. One little thing going wrong can cause some a major issue and that seems to have taken place again in a crucial spot of one of the bigger WWE matches to take place in recent memory. The opening match of Crown Jewel 2022 saw Brock Lesnar defeat Bobby Lashley in controversial fashion. Lesnar kicked out of the corner to land on Lashley for a pin, though Lashley’s shoulder was up. As a result, fans have voiced their displeasure with the finish on Twitter, with several being upset about how the match ended in controversy and should have gone in another way. Here are some of the reactions: This would be pretty damn good. But the way the Crown Jewel match ended, I don’t think we’ve seen the last Lesnar v. Lashley. https://t.co/TZdTVvhMzo — Wrestling Breakdown (@WrestlingBreak3) November 7, 2022 All were gre..

LOOK: Man Wears WWE Title During Suspected Armed Robbery

A fashion accessory? WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and to a lot of fans, it is the wrestling promotion. Several fans associate the industry with WWE and a lot of fans are going to be familiar with the company’s signature logo. Unfortunately the logo was involved in something rather negative earlier this week with police having to be involved. According to KWTX (CBS affiliate near Waco, Texas) in Temple, Texas, a man is wanted for suspicion of an armed robbery of a store. The man was filmed wearing a replica WWE Title upside down with a hood over his face and no shoes. The amount of money stolen was not reported and the suspect has yet to be apprehended. In the article, the suspect is described as a “WWE Champion”. Opinion: This is one of those things that you don’t see very often and it doesn’t make WWE look great. At the same time, the good part is that WWE isn’t directly involved as this is more about a suspect doing something that is more th..

Pair Of Update On The Elite Returning To AEW In Some Fashion

Almost done? There have been very few wrestling stories this year that have been discussed as extensively as the post AEW All Out brawl between CM Punk/Ace Steel and the Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks). The issue resulted in several suspensions as well as Steel being released from the company. While the main players have yet to return, we have gotten something of an update from AEW itself. According to Fightful Select, the Elite may be set to return in at least a backstage capacity very soon, though there is no word on when the three may return to AEW TV. However, this week on AEW Dynamite, a vignette aired talking about the trio’s success in AEW. During the vignette though, the three of them began disappearing from the images, suggesting that they were being erased. It is not clear what this means for their future. Opinion: Your tastes may vary on the Elite but there is no denying that they have been a big deal in AEW since the company was founded. It makes sense to have the..

Two Title Changes Take Place During The Same Show

There go two of them. Titles are the most important things in wrestling as they identify the biggest stars in any given promotion. Any fan understands the idea of a wrestler holding a shiny gold belt and holding it can mean a lot. It can also mean quite a bit when a title changes hands, which was the case this week, albeit in two rather different fashions entirely. Two titles changed hands this week on Impact Wrestling. First, Frankie Kazarian vacated the X-Division Title he won at Bound For Glory via Option C, earning himself a World Title shot against Josh Alexander. Later in the show, Honor No More’s Matt Taven and Mike Bennett lost the Tag Team Titles to Heath and Rhino. This comes after Taven and Bennett made their AEW debuts last week on Rampage. Opinion: That is quite the eventful night and you do not see something like this happen very often. Kazarian had announced that he was going to be vacating the title last week so there was only so much surprise. It was similarly true o..

Extreme Rules 2022 Results

Extreme Rules 2022 Date: October 8, 2022 Location: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves We’re back with the violent pay per view and in this case the card might be able to live up to that hype. There is a different, or mostly different, gimmick to every match on the card and some of them could get rather violent. In addition, we find out who the White Rabbit is tonight and that could be a huge moment. Let’s get to it. The opening video is narrated by Paul Heyman and features a boy in a spelling bee, trying to spell EXTREME. He asks for the definitions, with Heyman talking about what it means for tonight. Imperium vs. Brawling Brutes This is a Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook, meaning street fight with some props at ringside. It’s a brawl to start, as it should be, with everyone pairing off in and around the ring. Kaiser is tied in the Tree of Woe for a running dropkick but the rest of Imperium comes over for the save. Everyone goes for..

WWE Adds Another Violent Match To Extreme Rules

It’s kind of the point of the show. With so many WWE events out there, each one needs something to make them stand out more than the others. That is why WWE has added a gimmick to most of its major shows and next month’s will be no exception. We are coming up on another of WWE’s themed shows and now they have added another logical match to the card. WWE has announced that Imperium will face the Brawling Brutes in a Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook match at Extreme Rules. The match will be under anything goes rules with all six fighting at the same time. The teams have been feuding for several weeks, including Gunther vs. Sheamus facing off at Clash At The Castle for the Intercontinental Title. Extreme Rules takes place on October 8. Opinion: This is a match that makes all the sense in the world for Extreme Rules as it is a feud that leads into more physicality and violence. That is the point of a show like Extreme Rules and we should be in for a heck of a fight. If nothing else, it prev..

WWE Reportedly Sends Feelers To Several AEW Stars

That might be a bit much. The rise of AEW has seen wrestlers being offered another place to apply their trade at a top level. The company is offering a top stage that has not been available outside of WWE in a very long time. Several wrestlers, including some who had previously worked in WWE, are now getting a new place to go, but it seems that WWE wants some of them back. According to Fightful Select, WWE sent out feelers to FTR (Cash Wheeler/Dax Harwood) and Swerve Strickland about potentially returning to WWE. There is no word on when this would be possible due to their AEW contracts or if any of them are interested in a potential jump. This comes after reports that WWE has reached out to Malakai Black, who recently departed AEW in some fashion. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you are going to hear more about going forward as the companies fight for talent. While the contract situations are going to make things more and more complicated, the fact that the promotions are ev..

The Next One Up: Major Main Event Set For WWE Clash At The Castle

They’re looking to the future. Summerslam is less than a day away and that means WWE has almost everything set up for one of the biggest shows of the year. That does not mean they are done with everything though, as there are other shows that have to be covered as well. This time, WWE is starting early on the next show, which is going to be one of the most unique events in a long time. This week on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre defeated Sheamus in a Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook Match to become the new #1 contender to the WWE Universal Champion. McIntyre will receive his shot at Clash At The Castle on September 3 in the first stadium show in the United Kingdom in over thirty years. McIntyre will challenge the winner of Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar, who face off at Summerslam in a Last Man Standing match. Opinion: I don’t think there was much doubt over McIntyre winning the title shot, but this puts WWE in a bit of a dilemma. McIntyre almost can’t lose in the main event of such an importa..

Brock Lesnar Reportedly Leaves SmackDown, Status For This Week Unclear

I guess he wasn’t pleased. There are a lot of wrestlers in WWE, but there is only one Brock Lesnar. Throughout his multiple runs in WWE, Lesnar has been one of the most dominant stars the company has ever seen. Even though he only appears occasionally now, it means something when he shows up. That was supposed to be the case this week, but now things might have changed. Lesnar has been advertised for this week’s edition of SmackDown, but according to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lesnar has left SmackDown as of just before 5PM EST. There is no word on why Lesnar left, though it comes less than an hour after Vince McMahon announced that he is stepping down as WWE CEO and Chairman of the Board. It is not clear if Lesnar will appear on the show in any fashion. From several sources, Brock Lesnar has left Smackdown. — Bryan Alvarez (@bryanalvarez) July 22, 2022 Opinion: I’m not sure what is going on here, but at the end of the day, things are going a bit more nuts ..

Made Again: Title Change Takes Place On AEW Dynamite

For the first time. Title changes can make a huge difference in a wrestler’s career as you can see them moving up the ladder right in front of your eyes. It can be the kind of thing that reallys tarts a career in a huge way. That might have been the case again this week, as a young and upcoming star finally got his hands on some gold in some pretty impressive fashion. This week’s AEW Dynamite featured Wardlow defeating Scorpio Sky in a street fight to become the new TNT Champion. The win markes Wardlow’s first title of any kind in AEW. The match came about after Sky cheated to retain the title over Wardlow in their previous match. Sky’s loss ends his second title at seventy days, having won the title on the April 27 edition of Dynamite. Opinion: Wardlow had to win something and this is as good of an idea as they had for him at the moment. He gets a championship and has officially accomplished something in AEW. I’m not sure where he goes next, but lining up one villain in a row to com..

WATCH: Kurt Angle Recreates Classic Promo With His Daughter And It’s Great

Well that worked. Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, WWE celebrated the twenty year anniversary of John Cena in WWE. The show featured a series of tributes to Cena, as well as looks back at some of his most famous moments. Cena has had several of these over the years and they are worth looking at again. Now one of them is getting recreated in pretty awesome fashion. WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle has released a video of himself and his daughter Sophia recreating Cena’s debut promo from June 27, 2002. The original promo saw Kurt call out anyone in the back, with Cena answering, introducing himself, and slapping Kurt. The two went on to have a match with Kurt winning in Cena’s debut. Kurt said that his daughter asked him to recreate the promo. This is pretty adorable. Check out the new and the old: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: What else is there to say about something like this?
