A lot of people felt that after the CM Punk situation that The American Dragon was the perfect guy to take the AEW World Championship and reestablish its prestige. Bryan Danielson himself just appeared on the latest episode of One Fall with Ron Funches, where he specifically discussed his plans for his wrestling career once his current deal with AEW expires in 2024. This weekend at WWE Crown Jewel, Drew McIntyre defeated Karrion Kross in a steel cage match. However, according to PWInsider.com, McIntyre wrestled the match while “extremely sick”. McIntyre missed some of the run throughs for his match but was adamant about wrestling no matter what. There is nothing to suggest that McIntyre will miss any ring time due to his illness. While the stars and familiar names are the ones who receive the most attention, several other people are also included in a variety of roles. That is the case with some of the wrestlers who are there to make others look good and now there is some controversy about a statement involving some of them. Earlier this year, AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa was forced to take time away from the ring due to a back injury. According to this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, since Rosa’s hiatus began, her friends, including names such as KiLynn King, Madi Wrenkowski and Jazmin Allure have not been used as AEW extras. It can make things complicated for the one who is on their own and the situation often involves finding someone else to help in the fight. That is the case again and now two legends are at least considering offering their assistance to their old friend or rival. Over the last several months, Edge has feuded with the Judgment Day. While Edge has had assistance against the team, he has been outnumbered on multiple occasions. Now two legends are talking about the story. First, during a live signing with K&S WrestleFest, Edge’s former Brood teammate Gangrel was asked if he would return to help Edge fight. Gangrel said “never say never, but creeping up there in age”. Women’s wrestling had long been treated as a sideshow and rarely something to be taken seriously. Now though, women in WWE have become among the top stars in the promotion. However, things were not always that way and now we know just how bad things got. In a new interview with Wrestling Purists, former WWE star Melina spoke about how women were punished in WWE in previous eras. Melina said that after women would do something extraordinary, they be punished with absurd matches, such as swimsuit matches or lingerie matches. This would be done in an effort to see how the women would react, with Melina eventually trying to turn it into a game to see just how far the company would take it with them. Last weekend WWE included someone extra in a match but things almost went rather bad just before the match was starting. Last Saturday at WWE Extreme Rules, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier refereed the show’s main event between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle in the Fight Pit. Cormier discussed the event on the DC & RC Show (the Extreme Rules portion begins around 3:30), revealing that he was incredibly nervous before the match began. The issue reached the point that Cormier even forgot the finish to the match and had to ask what it was supposed to be again. There is no word on if WWE plans to use Cormier again.
