Let’s be honest—whenever you hear “If ya smell…” blasting through arena speakers, the energy shifts. The crowd erupts. Goosebumps hit. That’s the power of The R...
It’s been a bit. AEW has done quite a few things in its short history and a lot of the roster has been turned over throughout the years. Some wrestlers who were around at the start have since left for one reason or another, though some have just stopped appearing. That is the case with a former champion, who has not been around for a very long time for no apparent reason. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Bryan Danielson Says It’s Time To Go Home, Walks Out On AEW TV Earlier this week, former AEW TNT and Tag Team Champion Scorpio Sky commented on AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman throwing a drink at a young fan at Revolution. Sky said that it was “the smallest d*** energy imaginable”. According to Fightful Select, Sky has not been at AEW events in months and has rarely been seen since losing the TNT Title in July 2022. Sky has not wrestled since the loss and there is nothing to suggest that he is injured or has any problems keeping him out of the ring. I’ll say it if nobody else..
NXT LVL Up Date: February 10, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Byron Saxton, Blake Howard So somehow, we’re coming off what was an actually entertaining episode last week. If they can keep up that energy this week, it should be another breeze of the show. What makes it more confusing is that it shouldn’t be hard to send in another middle of the road star to boost things up a bit. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. We meet new commentator Blake Howard. Tank Ledger vs. Kale Dixon They trade wristlocks to start until Ledger takes him down with an armbar. An armdrag sets up another armbar and a World’s Strongest Slam gives Ledger two. Dixon manages to send him into the corner though and a neckbreaker gets two. Ledger fights out of a chinlock and a cartwheel into a splash gets another near fall. The running powerslam finishes Dixon at 4:59. Result: Tank Ledger b. Kale Dixon – Running powerslam (4:59) Axiom isn’t sure how to deal with a masked man..
It’s part of the job. Despite its problems, WWE is still the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world. The company is active in several countries, but the majority of its work is done in the United States. It makes sense for the company to want to be associated with some of the biggest sporting events in the country and they tried to do so again this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Again: WWE Reportedly Makes More Office Cuts This Week Monday Night Raw stars Montez Ford and Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair appeared on NBC’s pre-game coverage of the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Kansas City Chiefs NFL playoff game. Ford talked about the energy being the same as you find at a WWE event and Belair talked about the high stakes. Both picked the Chiefs to win, which would wind up being correct. It was a cool moment. Check out part of their appearance and the two of them in their more familiar location: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, clic..
That’s not a great sign. There are all kinds of injuries in the world of wrestling and you never want to see someone be put on the shelf for any amount of time. Unfortunately there are only so many ways to keep wrestlers safe, as an injury can happen at any time. One of the bigger WWE names was forced out of action with an injury earlier this year and while she is back, things are not quite where they should be. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Maybe Later? Update On Status Of 41 Year Old WWE Producer After Recent Attack Becky Lynch suffered a separated shoulder during her match against Bianca Belair at Summerslam but returned to action at Survivor Series. Lynch was interviewed by Verge Magazine after the Survivor Series match, where she revealed that her shoulder “still isn’t feeling right”, but the energy from the crowd made her forget everything else. There is nothing to suggest that Lynch will be missing any more ring time due to her shoulder. Lynch is a force when she is around. Check ou..
The origin of a story. Sami Zayn was recently a guest on the Cheap Heat podcast hosted by Peter Rosenberg, where he discussed a number of topics. Among them was the origin of his story line with the bloodline, who he would like to work with outside of WWE, and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: Zayn On being a part of the Bloodline storyline: “What is interesting and really rewarding for me is that I kind of treat everything I do like it’s the most important thing on the show, but this is the first time where it’s actually the most important thing on the show, so it’s the first time that like my level of investment is returned equally by the fans level of investment and that’s because I’ve been plugged on the top of the card with the guy that they’re used to investing all their energy into which is Roman and The Bloodline. It’s awesome to get that level of engagement and that level of investment from an audience.” Zayn On how his involvement in The Bloodline began:..
Rampage Date: November 4, 2022 Location: Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Mike Tyson, Tony Schiavone You might notice an interesting guest star here as Iron Mike Tyson is making another appearance for the company. I’m not sure how well that is going to go, but Tyson is likely going to bring some energy. The big match this week is a special appearance by Katsuyori Shibata as he challenges Orange Cassidy for the All-Atlantic Title. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Mike Tyson gets a special entrance. Video on Katsuyori Shibata, who hits people very hard and is back after what appeared to be a career ending injury. All-Atlantic Title: Orange Cassidy vs. Katsuyori Shibata Cassidy is defending. They stare each other down so Shibata grabs a headlock takeover. A headscissors gets Cassidy out of trouble before cranking on the ankle. Shibata misses the big kick to the head and gets forearmed off the apron, setting up the suicide dive...
Monday Night Raw Date: October 3, 2022 Location: Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, Minnesota Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s the go home show for Extreme Rules and the show is mostly set. However, it still doesn’t feel like there is anything that stands out as a main event. I would assume it’s going to be the Fight Pit between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle, but the card feels like it is lacking something even if there isn’t much room for anything else. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is Judgment Day for a chat before their match. Finn Balor is ready to beat Edge so badly that Edge will quit right then and there. Damian Priest promises to take out anyone who comes for them. Dominik gets the mic and is greeted by a WHO’S YOUR DADDY chant. He hates Rey Mysterio and says he has a new family now, thanks to the Judgment Day. Balor says he could have taken Edge out last night, corrects himself to say last week, and offers one more olive branch. Cue AJ Styles t..
Welcome to the family. There have been a lot of changes throughout WWE in recent weeks and one of the more interesting has been the closure of NXT UK with NXT Europe on the way next year. Several of the NXT UK stars have been brought over to the main NXT roster and that has shaken things up quite a bit. Now it has happened again, with one of the top names coming over. The main event of this week’s NXT saw JD McDonagh defeat Tyler Bate to become the new #1 contender to the NXT Title. Following the win, McDonagh and NXT Champion Bron Breakker had a staredown but former NXT United Kingdom Champion Ilja Dragunov debuted and stared both of them down. Dragunov was forced to vacate the title due to a knee injury and has not wrestled since June. Opinion: That is the kind of addition that could be a game changer in NXT. Dragunov brings so much intensity and energy with him that it could be a huge deal. I could go for seeing a lot more of Dragunov around, as you do not see many stars like him...
That’s certainly something to say. AEW’s locker room is in a bit of a state at the moment and that is the kind of thing you do not want to see happen very often. The company is having some issues with its wrestlers and its leadership, which has been going on for more than awhile now. One of the company’s leaders tried to help things out with it not that long ago, but some of the details might not have been so well received. Back on August 24, AEW held a talent meeting before Dynamite. Several veterans spoke at the meeting, including Kenny Omega. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega took more of a “tough love” approach, including a statement that he would not have hired eight out of the ten wrestlers present. Omega was said to be joking with Will Ospreay when he said this, but the comment was taken seriously by others, who were reportedly upset. He went on to say that the locker room energy was different than when AEW began, which was suggested as Omega wanting to retu..
Monday Night Raw Date: August 8, 2022 Location: Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, Cleveland, Ohio Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton This could be a very interesting show, as we are coming off last week’s pretty awesome episode, but now the question is how they follow it up. They certainly don’t need to have some big moment or debut/return, but keep up the energy and put on a good show and they should be fine. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Bayley/Iyo Shirai/Dakota Kai coming together at Summerslam and running some roughshod last week. We get the brackets for the Women’s Tag Team Title tournament: Tamina/Dana Brooke Iyo Sky/Dakota Kai Alexa Bliss/Asuka Nikki Ash/Doudrop Raquel Rodriguez/Aliyah Xia Li/Shotzi Nikkita Lyons/Zoey Stark Natalya/Sonya Deville Here are Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai for a chat. Bayley: “DING DONG!” Bayley can’t believe that she’s getting this kind of a reception when the fans need her. They are here to save this women’s division..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Summerslam 2021 Date: August 21, 2021 Location: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Jimmy Smith, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves We’re back in front of a full stadium and that could make things interesting. Throw in the fact that this is on a Saturday for once and there is a different energy to the whole thing. We have a full on dream match main event as John Cena is challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Title so at least the big match at the end should be good. Let’s get t..
Maybe that’s next. WWE does not have the strongest history when it comes to tag team wrestling. The company has had some periods of focusing on tag wrestling, but it tends to go in a different way. Most of the time WWE tends to focus on one or two teams at a time and that is the case again. Now the main team is interested in trying their hands in another part of WWE. Last week on NXT, Grayson Waller interrupted a Solo Sikoa interview, which help set up the show’s tag team main event with the two of them on opposing sides. This caused the Usos, Sikoa’s brothers, to comment on the interview, suggesting that they were coming to NXT to deal with Waller in the future, though nothing has been announced. Waller responded, telling the Usos to ask Roman Reigns for permission to work on Tuesdays. The Usos did not reference the fact that Sikoa is their brother. Keep that same energy when we pull up uce…? https://t.co/EdAFvAB5yZ — The Usos (@WWEUsos) June 12, 2022 Make sure you ask Roman’s per..
That’s a nice thing to see. Fans are one of the most important parts of any live wrestling event as they bring the energy to the show. They also give the wrestlers feedback, as the booing and the cheering can tell the wrestlers how the show is going. Sometimes fans can get a little too intense though, and that seemed to be the case again this week. Thankfully, it wound up going rather well. Following this week’s SmackDown broadcast, Cody Rhodes defeated Seth Rollins in a dark match. After the match, Rhodes was taking pictures with fans at ringside when a young fan jumped the barricade in an attempt to get a picture. Rhodes and security took the fan back to his family, though Rhodes later tweeted about the incident and said that the fan did wind up getting his picture. This is kind of adorable. Check out the kid getting to see Rhodes: [This post contains video, click to play] This popped me. He ended up getting the pic ? ? Good kiddo — Cody Rhodes (@CodyRhodes) May 7, 2022 Opini..
That would be the big one. There are very few true dream matches left in the WWE. With so many matches being presented at any given time, it can be difficult for the company to come up with something new that fans will want to see. Those things do happen though, and there was another indication that what might be an all time dream match could be a possibility. WWE is currently in Europe on a live event tour, including a show in London, England on Saturday. The show was headlined by Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns successfully defending his title against Drew McIntyre. Following the match, Reigns thanked the fans for bringing their energy to the show. A fan shouted something about the Rock, with Reigns responding that “The Rock can get it too.” Rock vs. Reigns has been discussed as a possible WrestleMania 39 main event, though the match has yet to be confirmed. It’s weird to see Reigns like this. Check out Reigns breaking character and addressing the London crowd: [Thi..
That won’t go well. The fans are one of the most important parts of any wrestling show. While the wrestlers are the featured attraction, there is nowhere near as much energy without the fans around. Just look back at WWE’s shows in the Thunder Dome to see how much different things are without them. However, there are some lines that fans cannot cross, and that was done this weekend. Over the weekend at a Warrior Wrestling event outside of Chicago, AEW’s Thunder Rosa faced Athena (formerly known as Ember Moon in WWE). During the match, a fan reportedly shouted a racist statement to Athena, saying “tear her weave off”. Following the match, Rosa got on the microphone and told the fans to have some respect for the women who are putting their lives in danger during the matches. Rosa went on to say that fans who are disrespectful to the wrestlers in that way have no right to be at a show. Racist towards Athena (Ember Moon). A comment about weave. — thrillking722 (@thrillking722) February ..
The queen shows off her brutality. WWE has posted a new match to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Championship from Money in the Bank 2021. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Haymakers and kicks were thrown with reckless abandon, underscoring the deep-seated animosity that has defined the rivalry. The Nightmare battered Flair with every ounce of energy she had, fighting off fatigue late in the match to muscle Charlotte into a suplex that nearly blew the roof off Dickies Arena. Not to be outdone, Charlotte returned fire with a moonsault from the top rope to the floor. A desperation Natural Selection from the top rope stunned Ripley but only garnered a two-count, causing the WWE Universe to erupt into chants of “This is awesome!” As the match wore on, Ripley countered the Figure Eight by sending Charlotte head-first into the ring post. ..
205 Live Date: December 24, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph Just in case there are people watching the supplemental show for the minor league brand on Christmas Eve. Last week’s show was one of the rougher watches I’ve had around here and I can only hope that this one is a bit better. Having more people ready for a slightly bigger stage than the Performance Center would help. Let’s get to it. Ivy Nile vs. Fallon Henley Two weeks in a row for Henley and she gets a rather high energy entrance. Nile throws her down without much trouble to start but gets caught in an armbar. That’s broken up as well so some forearms annoy Nile a bit. A bulldog takes Nile down but she’s fine enough to power her way out of trouble. There’s a belly to back suplex and a running kick in the corner rocks Henley again. We hit the bearhug on Henley before Nile throws her down. The freedom is enough for Henley to grab a rollup for two and some ..
It’s always a wonderful moment. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the Top 10 returns to the company in 2021. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] The returns are as follows: 10) Sasha Banks saves Bianca Belair 9) Carlito enters the Royal Rumble match 8) Zelina Vega returns 7) Jimmy Uso comes back 6) Edge confronts The Bloodline 5) Goldberg wants Bobby Lashley 4) The Demon crawls back into WWE 3) John Cena confronts Roman Reigns 2) Becky Lynch surprises Bianca Belair 1) Brock Lesnar spoils Roman Reigns’ celebration Editor’s Opinion: I love returns, and I’m sure that all of you do as well. The pop from the crowd and the energy that we all feel when our favorite superstars come back is incredible, and I always look forward to them. You can especially say that this year, as 2021 started in the ThunderDome and ended with live fans being back and a sense of normalcy coming over all of us. That pop when..
