The American Nightmare is back. As advertised, Cody Rhodes made his return at the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble and entered the match at No. 30. He would go on to outlast every other superstar and end up being the winner of the match. Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Monday Night Raw Date: December 5, 2022 Location: Capital One Arena, Washington DC Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We are on our way to…well the Royal Rumble, but the show is so far away that it is hard to be that interested so far. As for this week, the Usos will be defending the Tag Team Titles against Matt Riddle and Elias, who are such a longstanding team. Other than that, it’s hard to say what we might be seeing this week so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Tag Team Titles: Usos vs. Matt Riddle/Elias The Usos, with Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa, are defending. Earlier today though, Riddle annoyed the Bloodline so Elias got beaten down as a result. Actually hang on as the Usos say that the match is off due to Elias being beaten down. Therefore, whoever wants a shot can come get one. Here’s One Of The First Storylines Triple H Dropped When He Regained Power In WWE

He wasn’t a fan. There are all kinds of characters in wrestling and some of them are a lot more successful than others. Finding the right character for the right wrestlers is one of the trickiest things to do as the wrong combination can be a complete mistake. WWE seemed to think that someone was doing the wrong thing and the change has taken place right before your eyes. Last week on Monday Night Raw, WWE advertised the return of Elias on the following week’s show. This will seemingly be Elias’ full time return after more than a year away, save for a one off cameo earlier this year. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H dropped the Ezekiel character and reverted to Elias almost immediately upon regaining power in WWE. There is no word on if Ezekiel will be referenced again. Opinion: This is one of those things that makes sense the more you think about it. There was little future for Ezekiel, as his entire personality was built around saying he was not Elias’ broth..

WWE Confirms Return Of Missing Superstar

Another homecoming. There have been several changes to WWE’s roster in recent months and they moves continue all over the company. Wrestlers have been coming and going from one roster to the other, along with a bunch of wrestlers coming back to WWE after a hiatus for one reason or another. Now WWE has announced that another name will be coming back to the company. This week on Monday Night Raw, a vignette announced that Elias will be returning to television next week. This will be Elias’ first appearance in an arena in over two months after his alter ego Ezekiel was injured at the hands of Kevin Owens, putting him out of action. There is nothing to suggest that Ezekiel or any other characters played by Elias will be joining him. Elias has not wrestled a match as Elias since July 19, 2021. Opinion: This is a good sign, as the Ezekiel experiment only got him so far and there was only so much that could be done with the idea. WWE Plans To Bring Back Former Character To Replace Injured Star

Change it up. There are a lot of characters in WWE and sometimes you need to do something different to keep things interesting. That is not always the easiest thing to do, but occasionally something will be served up to WWE on a silver platter. It seems to be taking place again, as a WWE star is changing up his character in perhaps the easiest way possible. According to PWInsider.com, Ezekiel is no longer listed on the internal WWE roster, as he has been replaced by Elias, his former character. This comes after Ezekiel was written off of television last month, with Elias appearing in a hospital room with him. There is no word on when Elias will be making his return to WWE TV. Elias has only made cameo appearances since leaving WWE TV over a year ago. Opinion: This is one of those changes that probably needed to take place, as Ezekiel was nothing more than “I’m Elias’ brother”. He’s Back: WWE Star Expected To Return From Injury On This Week’s Monday Night Raw

Welcome back? Wrestlers occasionally have to miss some time from television for one reason or another. That is often not a good thing, but there are times when someone needs to go away, often for the sake of an injury. That can cause a lot of storyline issues but at least now it seems like we are going to be getting the return of a star who has been missing for a little while. According to Fightful Select, Kevin Owens is expected to make his return to WWE TV on this week’s Monday Night Raw. The return would see Owens’ first appearance since the June 19 Monday Night Raw as he has been dealing with an unspecified “minor injury”. There is no word on what Owens will be doing on the show, though he was feuding with Ezekiel and Elias before his hiatus. Opinion: This is a good thing to see as Owens can be one of the most entertaining people on any WWE show. It’s Worth A Shot: WWE Has Surprising Plans For Returning Character

That’s a way to go. With so many storylines going on WWE television at any given time, it can be difficult to have something that stands out. Sometimes you can see it work due to just how unique the whole thing is, and that seems to be what is happening again on Monday Night Raw. There is currently a pretty different story, and now we might have an idea of where it is going. Starting on the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 38, Elias’ younger brother Ezekiel made his debut. Since the, Ezekiel has insisted that he and Elias are different people, with Elias making an appearance on Monday Night Raw last month. According to Fightful Select, the plan is that Elias will be integrated into Monday Night Raw, with materials being planned for him. However, the same report says that Elias had an appearance planned for this week’s show but he did not show up. Try Again Later: Monday Night Raw Match Postponed Due To Injury

That explains it. WWE has a history of changing matches at the last minute, to the point where some of them do not even take place as advertised. This can be the case for a variety of reasons but one of the most common is that WWE just changes things on a moment’s notice. That seemed to be the case again this week, but now we might know a more logical reason. As of Monday morning, WWE was still advertising a match between Kevin Owens against either Ezekiel, Elias or Elrod. However, the match never took place with no explanation given. According to PWInsider.com, the match was not taking place due to Owens dealing with a minor injury. There is no word on what is wrong or when Owens will be back in the ring. It is not clear if the match will still be taking place down the road. Opinion: This does at least explain things as Owens’ match not taking place due to an injury certainly makes sense. WWE Made A Match, Upgraded The Match And Didn’t Air The Match

They changed their minds. There are a lot of issues with WWE at the moment and one of them is their inability to present the matches and segments that they advertise. WWE has a bad tendency to change their minds on something they plan to present and it can create issues. That was the case again this week, despite a last minute advertisement of the match. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Kevin Owens issued a challenge to either Ezekiel, Elias or their brother Elrod. Ezekiel accepted the challenge on behalf of his family and it was officially announced for this week’s show. On top of that, at 6am on Monday morning, WWE announced that the match would be a Money in the Bank qualifying match. However, the match did not take place and was not mentioned during the show, with no explanation given of why the change took place. There is no word on if the match will be rescheduled. Him Again? WWE Announces Surprise Return For Next Week’s Monday Night Raw

Welcome back to WWE. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestler and some of them are a little more ridiculous than others. One of the best things that can be done at times is give someone something brand new, but if it is too over the top, the result might not be as positive as the company was expecting. That might be the case again, but now someone might be making a return to their old presentation. The night after Wrestlemania 38, Ezekiel debuted, claiming to be Elias’ brother. Ezekiel has denied that he is Elias’ brother, despite various signs suggesting that he is. However, this week on Monday Night Raw, Ezekiel announced that Elias will be returning to WWE TV next week. Should he appear, this will be Elias’ first appearance since August, when he was taken off television for repackaging. WWE Star Returns On Monday Night Raw…..Kind Of

Don’t I know you? There are a lot of ways to introduce a wrestler and some of them are more interesting than others. One of the problems is that there are not very many ideas that have not been done yet and that can create a problem. It is rare to see something unique these days, though WWE might have come fairly close this week with a face you might remember. This week on Monday Night Raw, Kevin Owens was interrupted by Ezekiel, who was formerly known as Elias. However, Ezekiel claimed to be Elias’ younger brother and had shaved his beard. Owens insisted that Ezekiel was Elias but left after threatening to start a fight. This is Elias/Ezekiel’s first appearance since August, as WWE had been attempting to come up with something new for him. Opinion: That’s a new one on me and that is a good thing. Remember him? There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster, which can cause some problems for those wrestlers who fall through the cracks. It is easy to see how wrestlers can be forgotten, especially if the company doesn’t have anything for them. Sometimes WWE tries to come up with something for them, and that is the case again with a long missing star. Elias has not appeared on WWE television since August, when vignettes aired showing him burning his trademark guitar. The vignettes were never followed up on and Elias has not been mentioned since. According to Fightful Select, WWE has filmed new Elias vignettes and has been scheduled to return to Monday Night Raw, possibly under a new name. WRESTLING RUMORS: Elias Was Almost Brought Back Like Randy Savage

That could be a different way to go. The right character can be everything for a wrestler, but the wrong one can be much worse. If something doesn’t click, it can drag a talented wrestler down in a hurry. It can take a lot of tries to make it work right and sometimes you don’t see everything that a wrestler tries. That is the case again, but what might have been sounds fascinating. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE had no long term plans for Elias’ segments in a graveyard and merely wanted to find a way to get rid of his previous character. WWE’s next idea for him would see him with colorful trunks but Vince McMahon felt that it was too similar to Randy Savage and dropped it. Backstage News On Several Missing WWE Wrestlers

There are some left over. We are finally done with the in between period after the 2021 WWE Draft, meaning we now have the final rosters set. That means there are going to be some people sticking with the same shows for a long time to come, but that does not mean everyone is assigned. There are still some names who need to be assigned to a show, but it has already been done behind the scenes. There were several names not selected in this year’s WWE Draft and many have not appeared since. However, they have been assigned to brands on WWE’s internal charts. According to PWInsider.com, there are six wrestlers assigned to brands and three who have not been assigned anywhere. The three who are unassigned are currently out of action for various reasons. WATCH: WWE Star Says He Is Dead In Confusing Vignette

Call it a change. A wrestler has to do a lot of things, but one of the most important is their character. Not only do you have to find a good one, but you also have to find one that fits the wrestler as well as possible. That can be rather tricky a lot of the time and on occasion, an adjustment needs to be made. It seems that we have seen such an adjustment again, and it might surprise you. A video on Elias aired during this week’s Monday Night Raw. The video featured Elias walking around a fire as clips of his matches with Jaxson Ryker aired. At the end, Elias eventually burned his guitar and walked away, saying that he once said that WWE stood for Walk With Elias. Now though, Elias knew that he was dead. It is not clear what kind of a new character this may lead to. Elias has wrestled for WWE since 2014, appearing both in NXT and on the main roster. Tag Out: Tag Team Splits Up On Monday Night Raw

Another one bites the dust. Tag teams do not have the best history in WWE. There have been periods where the division has thrived due to the amount of talent involved, but more often than not, there are only a few teams here and there. Unfortunately that is the case today as well, and now the ranks of the division have been thinned out even more, thanks to what seems like a split. This week on Monday Night Raw, Elias walked out on a Raw Tag Team Title match, leaving partner Jaxson Ryker to be defeated by champions AJ Styles and Omos. During the match, Ryker was ready to tag Elias, who dropped to the floor instead.
