NXT Results – January 10, 2023 (New Year’s Evil)

NXT Date: January 10, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T., Vic Joseph It’s New Year’s Evil and this time we have the NXT Title on the line as Grayson Waller challenges Bron Breakker. Other than that, we have a twenty woman battle royal for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title. Throw in Indus Sher vs. the Creed Brothers and we should be in for a good one. Let’s get to it. We open at Chase U, with Andre Chase assigning the class to watch New Year’s Evil. Chase recaps everything and mentions Australia. A student asks Duke Hudson if he’s Australian and gets thrown out because Thea Hail doesn’t need to be near that kind of stupidity before her battle royal. Hail gets fired up and is all ready to go. Dijak vs. Tony D’Angelo Stacks is here with D’Angelo and Wes Lee is on commentary. They fight to the floor and then back inside, with D’Angelo getting knocked down outside. Back in again where a shot to Dijak lets them head back outside. This ..

REVIEW: WWF Houston Live Event – December 10, 1987: The Goodish Old Days

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? WWF House Show Date: December 10, 1987 Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas Commentators: Bruce Pritchard, Mike McGuirk, Duke Doherty Oh that commentary team is going to kill me today. Not really sure of what to expect on this card as I haven’t seen the details of it. The matches would probably be fallout from Survivor Series and leading up to the Rumble….which doesn’t tell us much at all as that was more or less Andre vs. Hogan and that’s about it. Anyway, I love the late 80s so let’s get t..

BREAKING: NXT Releases Five Superstars

They didn’t quite make it. WWE has a lot of resources available to use, with the NXT developmental system being one of the strongest. The company is able to build up its next generation of stars in-house, meaning they know what they are getting before the callups. Not everyone can make it though, as wrestlers can be released from NXT, which is what has taken place again. PWInsider.com is reporting five more releases from NXT. The names released include: Bodhi Hayward Sloane Jacobs Erica Yan Damaris Griffin Ru Feng Hayward is the most prominent name on the list of released names, having been the main student at Andre Chase University until Duke Hudson took his place. Jacobs had been a semi regular in the NXT women’s division and had made semi-regular appearances on NXT television. There is no word on if more releases are coming. Opinion: It is never nice to see wrestlers being released, but sometimes WWE has to clear out room to bring in some new stars. That seems to be the case aga..

NXT Star Appearing In Upcoming Film To Continue Acting Career

It’s something else. Wrestlers have a weird relationship with acting. There have been some success stories over the years, but one of the most common criticisms is that while wrestlers act in the ring, they are only wrestlers when they try acting on screen. That does not stop them from trying though and now another WWE star might have done something to get his foot in the acting door. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, NXT’s Sanga will appear in the upcoming Bollywood film Brahmastra Part One: Shiva. The film, which will be released on September 9, will be Sanga’s first film after he appeared in a television show from 2013-2014. WWE has made no mention of his part in the film. Sanga most recently wrestled on the July 12 edition of NXT where he defeated Duke Hudson. Opinion: The more I see of Sanga, the more I like him, as he has a unique look and is someone who gets your attention no matter what he is doing. His in-ring work is good enough, but apparently someone else se..

NXT LVL Up Results – July 22, 2022

NXT LVL Up Date: July 22, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Nigel McGuinness This show has started to change a little bit in recent weeks and that is a good thing. There have been some original interviews and even a tease of some storylines. It shouldn’t be that hard to do SOMETHING with this show but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be WWE’s idea. Maybe they have a different idea this week though so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Thea Hail vs. Brooklyn Barlow Chase U is here with Hail. They fight over wrist control to start before trading some rollups for two each. A headlock takeover puts Hail down and we hit the armbar as commentary talks about how much Chase U appreciates Hail. Something like a seated abdominal stretch brings Hail back to life for a side slam. A standing moonsault into Hail Yeah finishes Barlow at 5:37. Result: Thea Hail b. Brooklyn Barlow – Hail Yeah (5:37) Hank Walker isn’t going to let Duke Hudson disre..

AEW Might Be Bringing In Another NXT/MMA Star

She might have a new home. There have been a lot of huge shakeups in the wrestling world and quite a few of them have come from WWE’s massive series of releases. WWE has let go all kinds of wrestlers from its main roster and NXT, many of whom have now gone elsewhere. That can make for some surprising moments, another of which might be happening sooner than later. According to Wrestlinginc.com, AEW is planning to release a Marina Shafir shirt, which has already been announced by Pro Wrestling Tees. While not confirmed, this could suggest that Shafir will be signing with AEW in one way or another. Shafir has wrestled three matches on AEW Dark, starting in December, since her release from WWE on June 25, 2021, along with several other wrestlers. Shafir is a wrestler and also a former mixed martial artist, including being part of the Four Horsewomen with Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke. She signed with WWE in May 2018 and spent her time with the company in NX, mainly teami..

Hi There: Two Stars Return This Week On NXT

They’re back. With so many wrestlers in WWE today, it can be difficult to remember who everyone is and what everyone is doing. A lot of the time, these wrestlers need something that makes you stand out among the rest, with the best way often being a big return. That can be hard to pull off, but WWE tried it in two ways this week on the same television show in the same night. There were two returns this week on NXT, with a pair of wrestlers making their first appearances in several weeks. First, Dante Chen made his return, saying that he had suffered a leg injury to put him on the shelf. Chen also said that he had been inspired to improve his career by the death of his father. He would face Guru Raaj in a match that went to a double disqualification when Duke Hudson interfered. This was Chen’s first match on NXT since September 21, 2021. Later in the show, Sarray returned in a vignette, though she did not appear in the arena or in a match. Sarray has been in Japan for several weeks bu..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – December 14, 2021

NXT Date: December 14, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph It’s another new era as Johnny Gargano and Kyle O’Reilly are both gone, at least for the time being. That means we might be in for some new names, but ultimately that might not be the best thing. Some of the new generation has done well, but there are more than a few who haven’t been the most thrilling. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Grayson Waller attacking Johnny Gargano to end last week’s show. Waller arrives and gets booed by a bunch of fans, so he films a bit of the reaction. We recap Cameron Grimes vs. Duke Hudson. Grimes has beaten Hudson in poker and a match, including cutting off some of Hudson’s hair. Tonight is the final fight, no holds barred. Duke Hudson vs. Cameron Grimes No holds barred so Grimes busts out the weapons before the bell. Hudson still has the blond wig, as held down by the headgear. The brawl starts on the floor, with Grimes ..

WWE Signs College Athletes to NIL Deals

Making that money. WWE has announced that they have signed a number of collegiate athletes to NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals in order to create a potential pathway for them to be signed to developmental contracts in the future. This new venture, named “Next In Line”, is the company’s latest endeavor to find the next generation of superstars. The athletes signed are as follows: Carlos Aviles, of Ventura, Calif., a 6-foot-6, 305-pound track & field athlete from Ohio State University Haley Cavinder, of Gilbert, Ariz., a 5-foot-6 basketball player from Fresno State University Hanna Cavinder, of Gilbert, Ariz., a 5-foot-6 basketball player from Fresno State University A.J. Ferrari of Dallas, Texas, a 6-foot, 200-pound wrestler from Oklahoma State University Lexi Gordon of Fort Worth, Texas, a 6-foot basketball player from Duke University Aleeya Hutchins of Toronto, Canada, a 5-foot-5 track & field athlete from Wake Forest University John Krahn of Riverside, Calif., a 7-foot, 400-po..

NXT WarGames Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

Since it’s NXT 2.0, this is pretty much a Takeover without being a Takeover. We still have the double WarGames matches, which have been set up about as well as can be expected. I’m not sure how the whole thing is going to go, but we could be in for a heck of a fight. That being said, NXT’s expectations have more or less plummeted in recent months so I wouldn’t quite get my hopes up as much. Let’s get to it. Cameron Grimes vs. Duke Hudson I like Grimes a lot and Hudson is slowly growing on me, but what is working for this match is Grimes’ talking over the last few weeks. Grimes has been cutting some old fashioned wrestling promos about Hudson taking away his hair and beard, which apparently meant a lot to him. That’s the kind of thing that has worked in wrestling for the better part of ever and it worked again to set up this hair vs. hair match. He got serious quick: [This post contains video, click to play] I’m not sure on this one, but I think I’ll take Grimes. If nothing else, we..

WATCH: Popular Star Gets Major Change To His Look

That’s a big change. A wrestler’s look is one of the most important parts of their entire presentation. You can get a lot of people’s attention by having someone look so different that they can’t turn away. That can be a good or a bad thing, but having someone change their look can be rather jarring. That was the case this week, and it wasn’t exactly something positive. This week’s edition of NXT included a poker showdown between Duke Hudson and Cameron Grimes. After Hudson lost the game when Grimes bluffed him, he attacked Grimes and pulled out a pair of scissors. Hudson cut Grimes’ beard and hair, which comes after rumors of Grimes getting a new look from a few weeks ago. There is no word on if Grimes’ look will be changed again. It was a big change. Check out what happened, plus some of Grimes’ better moments: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m scared of what this is goin..

205 Live Results – October 22, 2021

205 Live Date: October 22, 2021 Location: Capitol One Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph It’s weird to be looking forward to this show but they have managed to make it happen. I have no idea what to expect from the show but the mere hint of effort and a purpose has turned this show into something with a bit of value for a change. What’s next? An actual big name showing up around here? Let’s get to it. Amari Miller/Valentina Feroz vs. Katarina Cortez/Yulisa Leon Leon is new. Feroz and Cortez go to the mat to start with Feroz’s takedown not having any effect. It’s off to Leon for a very spinning wristdrag and Cortez’s missile dropkick gets two. Feroz has to fight out of a chinlock and Miller comes in for the first time, only to get clotheslined down. Everything breaks down and Miller cravates Leon onto her knee for the pin at 3:48. Result: Amari Miller/Valentina Feroz b. Katarina Cortez/Yulisa Leon – Cravate to the knee to Leon (3:48) We see the Duke ..

AEW Star To Miss Time Due To Controversial Statements

You have to take this stuff seriously. Wrestling has changed a lot over the last thirty years and that is a good thing in some areas. The industry has expanded to a much more national model and promotions are now able to reach more fans than ever before. That can also have some setbacks though and one wrestler has learned that you have to be careful what you do with so many watching. Last week, Max Caster performed a rap during the Acclaimed’s entrance for a match. The rap contained controversial lyrics addressing both Simone Biles’ mental health issues as well as the Duke University lacrosse case. AEW edited the rap out after initially airing it but things are not over. According to Fightful Select, Caster is currently being held off of AEW programming and it is not clear when he will be back, though Caster has not been officially suspended. There is also the chance that he will have to undergo sensitivity training. It is not clear if Caster will be paid while he is away. This is a ..

WATCH: AEW Cut This Segment Due To Fan Backlash (Possibly NSFW)

That would be crossing a line. Wrestling is a lot of things, but ultimately it is a medium for the masses. Fans are going to want to see what is going on with the wrestlers and their feuds, but sometimes you see or hear something that is going to rub people the wrong way. That was the case this week and now one of the bigger wrestling promotions had to make a change. This week on AEW Dark, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, Max Caster performed a rap on the way to the ring. The rap referenced United States Olympic gymnast Simone Biles’ mental health issues as well as the Duke University lacrosse team rape allegations. The rap was heavily criticized on social media and has since been edited off of the YouTube video of the show. There is no word on if Caster will be punished in any way. This wasn’t going to go well. Check out the rap, plus some less controversial stuff from AEW: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This po..

This Week’s Raw Underground Was Heavily Changed

On the cutting room floor. Monday Night Raw is the biggest wrestling show in the world and with that comes a lot of pressure. While it is certainly a big show, it is also not always the best show and as a result, WWE tries to shake things up from time to time. Some of these changes are better than others but this week there was a chance to one of the bigger changes. Last month, WWE debuted a new concept called Raw Underground, which is basically an underground fight club with WWE wrestlers and extras in worked shoot fights in a back room. Shane McMahon serves as host every week and wrestlers such as Dolph Ziggler, the Viking Raiders and the Hurt Business have made regular appearances. Those are just some of the names, but even those who participated this week didn’t all make it to air. According to Fightful Select, WWE filmed several additional Raw Underground segments for this week’s show, including one involving Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke winning a fight each. Also planned was..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – November 21, 2018

NXT Date: November 21, 2018 Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson After everything that went down on Saturday, it’s time for a little breather. That tends to be the best thing that you can get the week after Takeover and that’s even better the day before a holiday. There are some matches from before Saturday’s Takeover, which tend to be pretty entertaining in their own right. Let’s get to it. We open with the traditional long form recap of Takeover. Opening sequence. Keith Lee vs. Fidel Bravo The fans sing about basking in Lee’s glory so the much smaller Bravo shoves him in the fans and demands respect. Lee takes him into the corner for a double chop to the chest, followed by the Supernova for the pin at 1:59. Result: Keith Lee b. Fidel Bravo – Supernova (1:59) Video on Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler. Baszler doesn’t want to talk about Duke and Shafir getting involved in her match. We look back at Kassius Oh..
