Another. We are coming up on the four year anniversary of AEW’s first event with Double Or Nothing 2019. The company hit the ground running and has gone on to become the second biggest wrestling promotion in the world. That is the kind of thing that can change the wrestling industry, and now it seems that we might be getting to see even more of AEW on a regular basis. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Trish Stratus Planned For Major WWE Feud According to the Mat Men podcast, AEW and Warner Brothers Discovery are finalizing an agreement for a third weekly AEW television show, which would run for an hour on Saturdays. There is no word on when the show would debut or when/where it would be broadcast. AEW currently runs two weekly television shows with Dynamite and Rampage plus two weekly web series with Dark and Dark: Elevation. AEW has a lot of content. It’s a corporate thing. Wrestling is like any other industry in that there are always going to be people and companies that a wrestling promotion needs to please. This is the case with sponsors or owners, but also with their corporate partners. The concept was on display this week on national television, as a major promotion had to do something to please its television partner. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Where Did He Go? Former AEW Champion Reportedly Not Backstage For Months This week on AEW Dynamite, President Tony Khan announced that the All-Atlantic Title will officially be named the International Title starting next week with Orange Cassidy’s defense against Jeff Jarrett. The move was announced as a tie-in to the new Warner Brothers film Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods. According to Fightful Select, this move has been in place for months, as Warner Brothers Discovery had wanted “something big” to tie into the film. Khan came up with the idea of “leveling up” the belt and giving it a new ..
It would make people mad. There have been a lot of rivalries over the years in WWE and some of them have gone on for a very long time. Those stories are often the ones that are the most remembered, as individual parts will stick out in fans’ minds more than anything else. Now we are hearing more about one such incident, which turned out to be quite the ordeal backstage. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s Gone: WWE Star Reportedly Leaves Company, Return To The Ring Set The most recent episode of A&E’s Rivals series focused on the Rock vs. John Cena feud and included a section on Cena calling out the Rock for having his promo written on his arm. This was described as creating a “disconnect” between the two of them. Natalya also spoke about the incident, saying that she felt real tension backstage between Cena and Rock, saying the two men couldn’t even be in the same room. Cena and Rock would split their two match WrestleMania series at WrestleMania 28 and 29. The two of them did have chemis..
Let the games begin. Multiple news outlets are reporting that NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre has filed three separate defamation lawsuits against Mississippi state auditor Shad White as well as national sports commentators Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee. From ESPN: Favre became involved in [a] public fraud case in 2020 after investigators in White’s office discovered that at least $77 million in public money from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds, earmarked for the neediest families in the state, instead was used to line the pockets of rich and powerful Mississippians. According to a state audit and civil lawsuit in which Favre and dozens of others are named as defendants, Favre was paid $1.1 million in TANF funds for speeches White has said Favre never made. Favre eventually paid the money back, but the state auditor demanded Favre also pay $228,000 in interest. Similar allegations were made in the lawsuit filed by Favre against former NFL punter and po..
It would be big. Wrestling fans today have access to more content than they ever could have dreamed possible. The rise of streaming services allows fans to see all kinds of wrestling from around the world with ease and that can make things a lot easier. It also leaves some fans wondering where to start and now that decision might be getting even more complicated. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: AEW Faces Lawsuit Over Using Luchasaurus Mask Without Creator’s Permission According to Bloomberg, Tony Khan and AEW are considering launching their own streaming service. The service would be through Warner Brothers Discovery, which broadcasts AEW Dynamite and Rampage. There is no word on what other kinds of content could be available on the service or if it would be a stand alone option. There have been rumors of an AEW streaming service for over a year, with speculation over it joining another existing service or starting a new one. The company has the content. There is more to it than that. Sadly, one of the biggest wrestling stories of the year so far has been the death of Jay Briscoe last week due to a car crash. The wrestling world has poured out tribute after tribute to Briscoe, including a special match this week on Dynamite with his brother Mark defeating Jay Lethal. It was the first time a Briscoe appeared on AEW TV and now we know a bit more about why. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Happened Again: Another AEW Star Out Of Action With An Injury The main reason the Briscoes were not allowed on AEW TV was a series of homophobic tweets that Jay sent out in 2011-2013. However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, in addition to the tweets, Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) did not want the Briscoes on AEW TV due to their use of the Confederate flag earlier in their careers. AEW’s contract with WBD also possibly gave WBD to ban anyone from an AEW event, which prevented the Briscoes from appearing on AEW pay per views despite Tony Kha..
Still no. Last week, the wrestling world was rocked by the death of Jay Briscoe in a car accident in Delaware. Briscoe was a reigning Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champion at the time with his brother Mark as part of the Briscoes. The team is one of the most successful of their generation, but they have not been allowed to work for major promotions due to some past comments. Now those comments are causing more issues. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: And The Award Goes To: AEW President Tony Khan Names His MVP Of 2022 On Wrestling Observer Radio, a fan asked about the possibility of Mark appearing on AEW TV following Jay’s death. Dave Meltzer said that the answer is no, though he did say that the answer could change in the future. This continues Warner Brothers Discovery’s edict that the Briscoes not be allowed to appear on AEW TV due to homophobic comments made by Jay on Twitter in June 2011. The Briscoes were a great team. It’s less wrestling. The WWE Network was an absolute game changer for wrestling fans. For the first time ever, fans were able to see almost every major WWE event in history for a relatively cheap price. It meant there was more content available to fans and more was added at a regular basis. However, that might not be the case anymore, at least for certain wrestling programming. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: You’re Up: Royal Rumble Described As “All Hands On Deck”, What That Means According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, a WWE source says that independent wrestling content will be discontinued on Peacock. This comes after various shows events are listed as leaving in a few days. Shows that seem to be leaving include ICW, Progress and Evolve, though it is not clear if all of them will be leaving permanently. A wXw event is set to premiere this coming Sunday. A WWE source indicated to Fightful that they'll be discontinuing indie content on the WWE Network. https://t.co/DwMvG4msM2 — Sean..
That’s a good sign. AEW has come a very long way in a rather short amount of time. The company has only been around for about three and a half years but it is already the second biggest wrestling promotion in the United States. That is in part due to its very strong television presence, and now the agreement that keeps them on the air may be getting even bigger. According to Fightful Select, a source at Warner Brothers Discovery would be “shocked” if AEW does not get a new television deal with the company, but also with a big increase in the rights fee. Warner Brothers Discovery has worked closely with AEW and 2022 was seen as a rebound year for wrestling interest, which has sparked a good relationship. AEW’s current deal expires at the end of 2023. Opinion: That is great to hear, as AEW getting more money and having more ability to move around and try new things is one of the best things that could happen to them. The company needs more money to help fund various things and a rights..
That’s a good place to be. The rise of AEW has changed the wrestling industry in a major way and there is nothing to suggest that the company is going to be slowing down anytime soon. One of the most important assets the company has is its television deal with Warner Brothers Discovery, which puts Dynamite and Rampage on TBS and TNT respectively. That is a great start, and it seems like it might be continuing for a long time to come. During John Arezzi’s Pro Wrestling Spotlight podcast, Arezzi said Warner Brothers Discovery executives are seeing AEW as a sport and something that they want to work with long term. While Arezzi said that he couldn’t go into details about what was going on, AEW and Warner Brothers Discovery are working on a new long term agreement which would see the two sides working together for years to come. There is no word on when such a new deal could be announced. Opinion: If this is the case, that is some very good news for AEW, as having a prime television deal..
They want more. AEW has come a long way in its three years of existence. A lot of the company’s success can be attributed to its programming being broadcast on Warner Brothers Discovery networks. The shows are available in prime time on national networks and the potential audience is high as a result. Now we might be in for an expansion of the company’s programming, but in a different way. Warner Brothers Discovery Group Chair and Chief Content Officer Kathleen Finch was recently interviewed by the Hollywood Reporter and spoke about the company’s relationship with AEW. Finch said that AEW pulls in huge numbers and as a result, Warner Brothers Discovery is trying to find new programming featuring AEW stars without it being in a wrestling ring. There is no word on what kind of programming this could be. Opinion: I don’t know what this is going to mean but there is something a bit ominous about the way that was worded. It almost came off like saying Warner Brothers Discovery likes the A..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Threemendous Date: July 16, 2006 Location: Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 350 Commentators: Disco Machine, Excalibur So someone requested that I do this show…..oh seven or eight years ago now but I’ve finally gotten around to/remembered to do it. It’s back in the earlier days of PWG and I’m not sure if there is some kind of gimmick for the show. PWG has a history of some rather awesome show names and the tradition holds up in their earlier days too. Let’s get to it. An unnamed man is..
That would be a different world. There are two major wrestling promotions in the United States with WWE and AEW. The two companies dominate the professional wrestling scene and there is nothing to suggest that will not be the case in the future. Both are extremely well funded and have lucrative television deals. However, a potential change could be on the horizon that could shake everything up. According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC Universal may be considering an attempt to buy Warner Brothers Discovery within the next year and a half. Due to Warner Brothers and Discovery merging earlier this year, no negotiations can officially begin until 2024. Should NBC Universal buy the company, Monday Night Raw (NBC Universal) and AEW (Warner Brothers Discovery) would be under the same umbrella. This is still far away from happening and is still only seen as a possibility. Opinion: Were still far enough away from this that it almost isn’t worth talking about yet, but my goodness this could b..
The important part. AEW has been around for a few years now, with most of its focus being built around the weekly Dynamite series. The show has built a consistent audience that rarely goes below a certain level, which is quite the selling point for the company. However, there are some forces at work that could cause AEW some problems and there is nothing they can do about it. AEW’s parent company WarnerMedia and Discovery have recently merged, meaning that AEW has a new boss. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Discovery is making all kinds of budget cuts, which could be a problem when AEW’s next television deal is negotiated next year. This could mean that AEW’s new deal could be worth significantly less, or that the company could have to move elsewhere, though nothing will be known for sure until next year. Opinion: This merger is one of the biggest stories in all of entertainment at the moment and things are starting to look shaky for the future of some of these properties. Tha..

Zombies Shouldn’t Run Date: August 6, 2005 Location: Hollywood Los Feliz JCC, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 300 Commentators: Disco Machine, Excalibur It’s back to PWG as I continue my efforts to go through my pile of downloaded shows. This is a show from a rather long time ago but you are probably going to know a lot of the people on this show. That can make these shows that much more fun as I have no idea what to expect here. Let’s get to it. Keep in mind that I know very little about the promotion so I’m..
That’s a way to go. There are a lot of wrestling shows that take place on any given week. That means there are all kinds of ways to build them up, meaning the different promotions need to come up with something fresh. Sometimes these ideas are not ones that a wrestling company comes up with on their own, and that seems to be the case again this coming week. AEW has announced that Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho will face off this week on Dynamite. The match will be a barbed wire death match with the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society suspended above the ring in shark cages. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is the result, of Discovery wanting to tie the show in to their Shark Week. This is what AEW came up with to satisfy their request. Opinion: That’s certainly unique, but really what else was there for AEW to do? Shark Week and professional wrestling don’t have many things in common so this was about as good as they could have done. If nothing else, maybe the match..
I think he struck a nerve. Talking is one of most important abilities a wrestler can have, if not the very most important. Wrestlers can get in the ring and have a good match, but it takes something special to get fans invested in what is going on. That is where a great promo can come in, which was the case last week. It just might have been a little bit too great for some people. Last week on AEW Dynamite, Maxwell Jacob Friedman gave an interview where he erupted on AEW as well as AEW President Tony Khan. Friedman talked about not being happy with his spot in the company or how he was being treated and at one point was censored. According to PWInsider.com, an edict has been issued at Warner Brothers Discovery ordering that Friedman be removed from all material promoting AEW, with different clips being used in their place. There is no word on how long Friedman could be removed from the footage or when he might appear on AEW TV again. Opinion: I’m not entirely sure what is going on he..
It’s the end of an era. Wrestling is a sport that works a lot better when you can see what is going on. You can only get so far without being able to watch everything and luckily that has gotten a lot easier over time. The rise of streaming video has been a game changer for wrestling fans in a very positive way. Now though, it seems to have led to the demise of something else. According to Wrestling DVD Network, WWE will be discontinuing DVDs and Blu-Rays in the United States, Australia and Canada starting in 2022. The final release will be Survivor Series 2021, which will be released on December 28. The United Kingdom will continue to receive viewers through March. There is no word on why WWE has decided to discontinue the sales. I do get the change. That’s another loss. WWE has changed quite a bit in recent years and some of those changes have been rather prominent. It is quite the jarring set of changes to see how far things have gone and a lot of those changes have not been for the better. Above all else, fewer people seem to be watching the show these days, and now even fewer will be able to do so. According to 411mania.com, J Sports, a Japanese television network, has announced that they will no longer be airing Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, with the shows ending on January 31, 2022. The WWE Pack, the network’s on demand service, will be discontinued as well. WWE and J Sports have had a business relationship for nineteen years, with a three year extension being signed in 2019. WWE has a history in Japan.
