There’s the next one. WWE is a huge wrestling company and as a result, its major shows are often held on the biggest stages. This includes several shows that are held in huge NFL stadiums to give the show as big of a feel as possible. That can make for some great moments, and now another top WWE event is going to get a chance to make it happen all over again. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Another WWE Hall Of Famer To Return, Team With Lita/Becky Lynch As announced by the Detroit News and later confirmed by WWE.com, Summerslam 2023 will be held on Saturday August 5 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Summerslam was previously held in the Detroit area in 1993 but this will be the first time that the event will be held at Ford Field, as well as its third straight year in a stadium. No matches have been officially announced for the event. Summerslam can go big rather well. Check out some of its past efforts: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vid..
Smackdown Date: January 20, 2023 Location: Little Caesar’s Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Michael Cole, Wade Barrett We’re just over a week away from the Royal Rumble and that could make for an interesting build to the show. Most of the card is set and that means it is time for a Bloodline show. Sami Zayn is having some issues with the rest of the team and that could be very interesting. Other than that, we start the #1 contenders tag team tournament. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Sami Zayn going after Kevin Owens last week but getting some seemingly unwanted help from the rest of the Bloodline. The Bloodline arrives and Roman Reigns doesn’t seem thrilled with Sami Zayn. We get brackets for the Tag Team Title #1 Contenders Tournament: Drew McIntyre/Sheamus Viking Raiders Los Lotharios Hit Row Brawling Brutes Imperium Maximum Male Models Legado del Fantasma Tag Team Titles #1 Contenders Tournament First Round: Drew McIntyre/Sheamus vs. Viking Raiders Valhalla..
They have something to say about it. WWE is in the biggest state of upheaval in its history and it all centers around Vince McMahon returning to the company for the expressed intent of selling it off. That is the kind of thing that would completely rock the industry and it is going to change a lot of lives. Now some people involved with those lives have something to say about what is going on. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: In Better Taste: Jay Briscoe’s Death Caused NXT To Change A Planned Segment According to Sportico, the Detroit Police and Fire Retirement System have fired a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, attempting to prevent McMahon from taking over the Board Of Directors. The lawsuit claims that McMahon breached his fiduciary duties by trying to “impose his personal will on WWE and it’s ‘board’”. It also refers to McMahon’s return to the company as a “corrupt and unlawful dealing” following the Board Of Directors’ previous decision to not reinstate McMahon. There is no word on when th..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Survivor Series 2005 Date: November 27, 2005 Location: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan Attendance: 15,000 Commentators: Joey Styles, Jerry Lawler, Jonathan Coachman, Michael Cole, Tazz This show is all about brand vs. brand, which really isn’t an interesting story because they would interact pretty regularly but of course WWE doesn’t get this. Therefore, the main event is a five on five Team Raw vs. Team Smackdown Survivor Series elimination tag for pure bragging rights. At least they didn’t have a..
It’s one of the big ones. WWE has been presenting pay per view events for well over thirty years now and there are several that are among the biggest wrestling shows in the world every year. At the top of the list are the Big Four, with the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Survivor Series and Summerslam. Those shows mean a lot and now we might know something else about an upcoming edition. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: High Praise: William Regal Makes Surprise Pick For “The One That Got Away” According to Fightful Select, Detroit, Michigan is currently a front runner to host Summerslam 2023, though no official selection has been made just yet. If Detroit hosts the show, it is not clear if Summerslam would take place in Little Caesar’s Arena or at Ford Field. The last two editions have taken place in stadium. Detroit has hosted Summerslam before, with the 1993 edition taking place at Joe Louis Arena. There have been some great Summerslam moments. Check out some of the best, plus Summerslam in De..
That’s a lot more serious. Wrestlers are larger than life characters but they are very real life people when the camera is turned off. You are going to hear about wrestlers doing run of the mill things, which is not exactly something that draws the most interest. Every now and then though, you hear about something that is a lot more serious, which is the case in another situation. According to the Detroit News, former WWE developmental wrestler Kyle Garrett Rasmussen (known as Conrad Tanner in FCW) was arrested on charges of attempting to strangle a man last month. Rasmussen allegedly attempted to choke the driver of a moving car but the driver was able to stop the car and escape. Rasmussen’s girlfriend fled as well but was struck by another car and killed. As a result, Rasmussen is facing a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Rasmussen wrestled for WWE from 2009-2010, when he was released. Opinion: That’s about as serious as it gets and that’s nev..

Halloween Havoc 1994 Date: October 23, 1994 Location: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan Attendance: 14,000 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan Someone requested this show and I haven’t watched any WCW in a VERY long time now. It’s as good of a time as any as I could go for a little pallet cleanser. Hulk Hogan has shown up and that means it’s time to put everything around him. You have to get rid of some big names at the same time, so the big main event is Hogan vs. Ric Flair in a cage, title/c..
Rampage Date: July 1, 2022 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone We are done with Forbidden Door and that means it is time to start moving forward. In this case that means we need a new challenger for Jon Moxley’s newly won Interim World Title. We can find that out tonight in what sounds like a Royal Rumble for the #1 contendership. That should be enough to carry the show so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Royal Rampage So this is a two ring battle royal, but not in the traditional sense. Instead, there are two rings with a separate battle royal going on in each. Once there is a single person left in each, they will have a two man battle royal for the shot. It is also Royal Rumble style entrances and it’s Hangman Page/Powerhouse Hobbs in blue and Darby Allin/Tony Nese in red to get things going. Nese kicks Allin down and poses as Hobbs powers Page around. Page low bridges Hobbs to the apron as Ricky Starks is in the r..

Olde Wrestling In Detroit Date: March 30, 2019 Location: The Whiskey Factory, Detroit, Michigan Commentator: Joe Dombrowski This is something I have wanted to see for a LONG time, as the promotion is set in the 1920s and features a corrupt judge, bootlegging, shoeshine boys and more. It sounded like a blast and made me grab a subscription to IndependentWrestling.TV, which sent me on a list of about 20 shows. This is the grand finale though so let’s get to it. Opening video, with old school style of course. The r..
It wasn’t over yet. AEW has come a long way in just over three years of its existence, with Dynamite being one of the major reasons to make it work so well. The company’s flagship show has had some rather big episodes over the years and that was the case again this week with the second ever Blood & Guts. The match headlined the show, but things were not done just yet. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite ended with Blood & Guts, which took up nearly the entire second hour of the show. According to PWInsider.com, after Dynamite ended, Eddie Kingston thanked the fans for coming out and left with his partners. AEW President Tony Khan came out and thanked the fans as well, while saying that he wanted to bring a pay per view to Detroit. As this was going on, Jon Moxley sat on the roof of the cage and pulled tacks out of his boots. Opinion: That is the kind of ending to the show that makes sense in this case, as Blood & Guts was so insane that it was almost impossible to keep anything from ..
Dynamite Date: June 29, 2022 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone It’s another major show here as we go from Forbidden Door on Sunday to Blood & Guts tonight. That would be AEW’s version of WarGames, albeit with twelve people this time as the match needs to be bigger, but it does look good on paper. Other than that, I’m not sure what else we have as so much has been put into the New Japan stuff for the last few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Ethan Page vs. Orange Cassidy Before the match, Dan Lambert complains about the Best Friends being here because they aren’t official managers and we have regulations in his state. Oh and Cassidy is skinny and has no muscles whatsoever. Page starts fast and knocks him down but Cassidy nips up and grabs an armdrag to the floor. There’s the suicide dive, followed by the high crossbody for one back inside. Page is back up with some shots of his own and Cassidy gets knocked into the..

Hell in a Cell 2017 Date: October 8, 2017 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves It’s time for the Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid Show. The main event tonight is Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens inside the show’s namesake structure as Shane fights to defend his family’s honor. Other than that we have the Usos challenging the New Day for the Tag Team Titles inside the Cell too. Let’s get to it. On the Kickoff Show, Tye Dillinger mentions to Daniel..
Monday Night Raw Date: April 11, 2022 Location: Little Caesar’s Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton We’re back to normal this week as the Wrestlemania Weekend glow is gone. Now we get to see what the regular crowds are like and how they respond to what WWE is offering. At the same time, we get to see how things go when WWE doesn’t have to try as hard. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Cody Rhodes’ return at Wrestlemania and wanting to become the WWE Champion to honor his father. Here is the Miz for MizTV. Miz wastes no time in introducing Cody Rhodes, though he does make sure to insult the fans a few times. Miz accuses Cody of taking too long to come out but Cody says it has been awhile since he was in front of a crowd like this one. Hang on as Cody gets to pose a bit more and the fans certainly like him. We hear about Cody being the grandson of a plumber but without the Rhodes name, he would just be a plumber. Cody says it would be ..
NXT Date: December 28, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett It’s time for one of those things that you don’t get to see very often in WWE, as we’re getting a contract signing between Carmelo Hayes and Roderick Strong. Other than that, odds are we’ll be hearing a lot more from Grayson Waller, because he is on this show as much as a Steve Austin Raw in 1998. Let’s get to it. Here is Grayson Waller to get things going. Waller flips around a lot and talks about having a great Christmas. This included flying himself to Detroit to Monday Night Raw, where he met AJ Styles. We see a clip of their showdown last night, before Waller talks about how he is supposed to face Dexter Lumis tonight. That isn’t going to happen, so he insults Indi Hartwell too. Cue the returning Odyssey Jones and we have a replacement match. Odyssey Jones vs. Grayson Waller Jones throws him around to start and then steps on Waller’s back. A big side slam give..
Monday Night Raw Date: December 27, 2021 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s the final show of the year and that means it’s also the go home show for Day One. There are a few big stories this week, including the renewal of Miz and Maryse’s wedding vows, but we also get to find out how the Coronavirus outbreak has impacted the roster. Let’s get to it. Here is RKBro for a chat. Riddle, in a party hat, talks about how the team had a good year but Randy Orton won’t read a Christmas card. Orton wants to beat Otis right now to make sure he has a good new year, but Riddle wants to look forward to the future. Next year could see them patent Brogurt! Last week Riddle was thinking about the future and thought he turned into a viper but Orton doesn’t want to hear about it. Instead he asks to see a clip from last week, which has Riddle wondering what Orton means by “production truck”. Anyway, Otis might be non-RKOable, so ..
That’s sounding serious. WWE and AEW get most of the attention in the wrestling world but there are all kinds of other promotions out there, many of which have a lot to offer. Several promotions can easily be seen by the masses and that makes for some very nice opportunities for wrestlers around the world. One big name might be about to move on to one of them. According to PWInsider.com, former WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman met with Impact Wrestling executive Scott D’Amore over the weekend. The two met at a hotel bar in Detroit, where the Motor City Comic Con was being held. The meeting was said to last for “a long time” and comes after Strowman has reportedly been in negotiations with Impact Wrestling. Impact Wrestling has been working on surprises for next Saturday’s Bound For Glory event. He might be bound for Impact. Check out what Strowman can do in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video..

Wrestlemania XXIII Date: April 1, 2007 Location: Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan Attendance: 80,103 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, Tazz, John Bradshaw Layfield, Joey Styles It’s the biggest night of the year and this time the show does indeed feel big. You can feel how things have been going strong on the way here and I want to see how it goes. That takes some work when I have already seen the show multiple times. It is a stacked card and the biggest is Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga in the Battle of t..
He’s still got it. There are very few stars in the history of professional wrestling near the level of John Cena. While he might have moved on to Hollywood for the most part these days, Cena is still the biggest name in wrestling and the reactions he has received since his latest WWE return would offer some proof of his superstar power. Now we have something a bit more concrete. According to F4WOnline.com, Cena’s return to WWE live events have had a positive impact on ticket sales. This weekend’s live event in Fort Myers, Florida saw 63% of its sales after Cena was announced for the show. Shows in Louisville, Milwaukee and Detroit have all seen 50% increases in ticket sales since Cena was announced. Cena is currently advertised to appear until the September 10 New York City SmackDown. Cena has been a big deal since he returned. Check out what he has been doing this time around: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contain..

The main event is a handicap match between the John Cena/HHH (the Raw main event) and Rey Mysterio/Kurt Angle/Randy Orton (the Smackdown main event), though it could wind up at any part of the show. There’s also Shawn Michaels vs. Shane McMahon in a street fight, which could have some strong p..
