Making waves in the industry, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan participated in the post-show media scrum for ROH Death Before Dishonor 2026, where he talked abou...
Welcome to your new home. WWE has long since dominated the wrestling world but things have been changing a bit in recent years. The rise of AEW has shaken up the industry just a little bit, and while WWE is still the undisputed top company, AEW has offered wrestlers a new place to go that they might not have had before. It seems that is the case again with a former WWE wrestler. According to Fightful Select, former NXT star Blake Christian has signed with either AEW or Ring Of Honor. Christian, who previously wrestled in NXT under the name Trey Baxter, appeared at Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor event in July. He has also wrestled in a variety of other promotions, including GCW, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Impact Wrestling. There is no word on when he will wrestle for either promotion next. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise as Christian is someone who has done some good things everywhere he has gone. It makes sense for AEW or Ring Of Honor to see what he can do under the..
There isn’t room for everyone. AEW already has more wrestlers than it can handle as they only have so much television time available. At some point, the company has to figure out who can make an appearance here and there. That is harder than it seems, but then Ring Of Honor being added to AEW TV made things even more complicated. Now though, we might have a bit of a reprieve. According to Fightful Select, not everyone who appeared on last weekend’s Death Before Dishonor pay per view is signed to a contract, either long term or on a tiered deal. Several stars who appeared on the show are still free agents. Josh Woods, who appeared at Death Before Dishonor, also appeared on this week’s Dynamite and is signed to AEW on a tiered contract. Opinion: This is one of those things that makes sense, as there are only so many spots available in both AEW and Ring Of Honor. At the end of the day, Ring Of Honor is little more than a bunch of one off events with no television at the moment. Unless t..
The champ may be out. According to a report from Fightful Select, former ROH Heavyweight Champion Jonathan Gresham has requested his release from ROH & AEW. The report states that Gresham asked for his release Saturday ahead of the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view. He defended the ROH World Heavyweight Championship against Claudio Castagnoli and dropped the title to him in the opening match fo the show. “A lack of communication between the company and Gresham leading up to the weekend” led him to feel “disrespected.” The lack of time given to the World Title match during last night’s show was also a noted “tipping point.” Gresham reportedly met with Tony Khan before the show began and got heated enough to the point that he was “cussing out” the boss. The former champion has since responded to inquiries about the ordeal and is said to be “done with wrestling for the foreseeable future after this month.” We will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become avai..
He’s gone? While wrestlers are the focal point of any wrestling show, there are other people on television who are going to be getting some attention of their own. That can often be the case with someone doing the talking for the wrestlers, which can often make for a great combination. However, now one of the better talkers in wrestling today might be looking for a new place to go. Tully Blanchard was absent from this weekend’s Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor event and was seemingly written off of television as Prince Nana announced his purchase of Tully Blanchard Enterprises. According to Fightful Select, it is not clear why Blanchard was missing, with possible reasons ranging from possible travel issues to Blanchard’s prison ministry. Either way, Blanchard was said to be done with Ring Of Honor, though it is not clear if he will be back in AEW. Opinion: This is kind of a weird situation and hopefully Blanchard can find somewhere to go. He is way too good of a talker to not have..
That could have been a lot worse. There are all kinds of injuries in the wrestling world and some of them are a lot worse than others. You never know what kind of action can put someone on the shelf for a very long time and the waiting is one of the worst things about the entire situation. That was the case with a top AEW star but now we have some good news about his health. AEW’s Bryan Danielson was injured during the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double Or Nothing, reportedly suffering a concussion. This is the latest in a long series of concussions for Danielson, who missed years of his career as a result of the injuries. However, this week at Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor, Danielson’s return to the ring was announced for the July 27 edition of Dynamite, where he will face Daniel Garcia. This will be Danielson’s first match May 29. Opinion: That is quite the relief as you never want to see someone on the shelf, but it can be even worse when they have a history of injuries ..
That’s a busy night. Titles are the easiest concept in all of wrestling and they always will be. Anyone can understand the idea of someone with the big shiny belt being the best around and in wrestling, those belts have to be defended. When one of them changes hands, it feels like something special has happened and that was the case again this weekend, multiple times over. Saturday night, Ring Of Honor made its return to pay per view with Death Before Dishonor. The card featured six title matches, with two title changes taking place. First up, Claudio Castagnoli win the Ring Of Honor World Title from Jonathan Gresham in the show’s opening match. Then, the Righteous lost the Ring Of Honor Six Man Tag Team Titles to Dalton Castle and the Boys, marking Castle and the Boys’ second reign as champions. The Pure Title, the Women’s Title, the Television Title and the Tag Team Titles were all retained. Opinion: This was quite the eventful night for Ring Of Honor, as having a single title chan..
Death Before Dishonor 2022 Date: July 23, 2022 Location: Tsongas Center, Lowell, Massachusetts Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Ring Of Honor is back and that should be a good thing. The company certainly has a history and it is nice to see that history continuing, but there has only been a limited build to the show on AEW TV. Then again, Ring Of Honor has always been about the in-ring work more than anything else and maybe that is enough to make the show work. Let’s get to it. Zero Hour: Colt Cabana vs. Anthony Henry JD Drake is here with Henry. Cabana takes him down by the arm to start but Henry spins out and strikes away in the corner. A sunset flip is blocked and Henry twists Cabana’s neck around to slow things down. Some more neck cranking sets up some kicks to the chest, which just fire Cabana up. Henry is fine with that and cuts him off with a piledriver for two. Back up and Cabana grabs a spinning belly to back suplex, setting up the Flip Flop and (slightly delay..
Hand it over? Stables have been a feature of wrestling for a very long time now and there is nothing to suggest that will change in the near future. They are still an effective idea as they allow multiple wrestlers to be able to get on television in a single segment. There are still times where things need to be changed though, and that seems to be the case again in an odd way. This weekend’s Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor card was scheduled to feature a six man tag match involving Tully Blanchard Enterprises. However, before the match, Ring Of Honor mainstay Prince Nana announced that he had purchased the stable from Blanchard. Nana would appear in the corner of Kan/Toa Liona/Brian Cage for their six man tag, as well as Jonathan Gresham as he lost the Ring Of Honor World Title to Claudio Castagnoli. There is no word on why the change was made or if Blanchard will have something else to do in AEW/Ring Of Honor. Opinion: I’m curious about what happened with Blanchard, but this do..
Rampage Date: July 22, 2022 Location: Gas South Arena, Duluth, Georgia Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Jim Ross We’re finally finishing up the two week long Fyter Fest and hopefully there is a bit less shark enthusiasm this time around. We’ll be seeing some good stuff this week, including Christopher Daniels vs. Jay Lethal as we are only a day away from Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Hangman Page/John Silver vs. Butcher and the Blade Silver charges at both of them to start before Page can even get his vest off. That means Silver gets beaten down in the corner as the numbers game gets the better of it. Butcher, who looks to have slimmed down a bit, chops away and it’s off to Blade for the stomping. A suplex gets Silver out of trouble and it’s back to Page to clean house. The fall away slam sends Blade flying and a slingshot dive takes Butcher out. A top rope clothesline gets two on Blade but Butcher pulls Page to the floor for some whips into ..
That’s always cool. Wrestlers are able to do a lot of things with their celebrity status and it can often be rather positive. Sometimes you see a wrestler get to do something worthwhile that can help other people. That is the case again with some of the more popular wrestlers today and in this case, it is something that is going to help someone who is rather close to one of them. This week on AEW Dynamite, Dax Harwood told a story about his eight year old daughter facing heart surgery due to a hole in her heart. Harwood revealed that his daughter fought to get better, which will cause him to “fight like an eight year old” at Death Before Dishonor. He has since revealed a new t-shirt from Pro Wrestling Tees, featuring the “Fight Like An 8 Year Old Girl” moniker. All proceeds will go to the American Heart Association, with Harwood saying he will match all royalties. So many of you guys asked. LFG! 100% of Royalties Will Be Donated To The American Heart Association I’m truly proud to ..
They’ll be there. The wrestling world is getting back one of the more prominent promotions of this generation as Ring Of Honor is running an event this weekend. That should make for quite the moment, but it does have some questions that need to be answered. Ring Of Honor has run one event this year and that was nearly four months ago. The promotion needs a roster and now we know two prominent names. During the Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor conference call, owner Tony Khan revealed that the Briscoes are signed to the company on long term contracts. The Briscoes are Ring Of Honor Hall of Famers and record twelve time Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions. They are scheduled to challenge FTR for the titles in a two out of three falls match at Death Before Dishonor. Opinion: I don’t think this is much of a shock as is no one more associated with Ring Of Honor than the Briscoes. They are the undisputed biggest team in the promotion’s history and that isn’t even counting their singles suc..
Rampage Date: July 15, 2022 Location: Enmarket Arena, Savannah, Georgia Commentators: Jim Ross, Taz, Chris Jericho We’re still in Fyter Fest with the second of four shows in two weeks. I’m not sure what that is going to mean, but we do have a big time Ring Of Honor World Title match as Jonathan Gresham defends against Lee Moriarty. Odds are we’re going to be seeing some kind of a surprise challenger to come out after the match and set up Death Before Dishonor so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dark Order vs. House Of Black Black rolls Reynolds to the mat to start but Reynolds is back up with a wristlock. That doesn’t last long as Black knees him in the ribs to set up a chinlock before it’s off to Brody King. The big chop misses though, meaning John Silver wants to try King out of a slight case of insanity. King runs him over with a shoulder but misses a backsplash. Everything breaks down and the Order gets to clean house, including a double dropkick to send King outside. Reynolds..
Dynamite Date: July 13, 2022 Location: Enmarket Arena, Savannah, Georgia Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We’re on the way to Death Before Dishonor and thankfully the build for that show hasn’t taken everything over like the Forbidden Door stuff did. It’s the first of four Fyter Fest shows and the Tag Team Titles are on the line as the Young Bucks defend against Swerve Strickland/Keith Lee and Team Taz. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. TNT Title: Wardlow vs. Orange Cassidy Cassidy is challenging, with the Best Friends in his corner (complete with managers’ licenses). They go with the test of strength to start and Cassidy puts his hands in his pockets….which are torn off by Wardlow. Now Wardlow’s straps come down….with Cassidy putting them right back up. The Powerbomb Symphony is broken up and Cassidy snaps off a headscissors but comes up favoring his eye. The referee checks on him, allowing Chuck Taylor to whip out A CHAINSAW. Believe it or not, that’s enough for an e..
Dynamite Date: July 6, 2022 Location: Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, New York Commentators: Taz, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re back to the normal show this week and that could mean more than a few things. In this case it means that we are going to be seeing Jon Moxley defend the Interim World Title against Brody King, which should be a heck of a fight. Other than that, it is time to build towards Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor later this month. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. TNT Title: Wardlow vs. Scorpio Sky Wardlow is challenging in a street fight. Sky strikes away at the leg to start and gets dropped with a hard shoulder. A low blow cuts off Wardlow but he’s fine enough to toss Sky around a few times. They head outside where an American Top Team distraction lets Sky send Wardlow into the steps. We take a break and come back with Wardlow knocking him off the top and hitting a Swanton. The Powerbomb Symphony is loaded up but Wardlow clears them out without much effort. ..
Welcome back. There are several wrestling promotions in the world but not many of them have been around for very long. Several of these promotions do not last very long for one reason or another so it means a lot to see one of them being around for a very long time. That is the case with Ring Of Honor, and now we know when the promotion will be coming back for more. AEW held its traditional media scrum after this weekend’s Forbidden Door event with AEW President and Ring Of Honor Honor Tony Khan answering questions. During the event, Khan revealed that Ring Of Honor would be holding Death Before Dishonor on July 23 from the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. This will be the first Ring Of Honor event since Supercard of Honor on April 1. Opinion: They had to do this at some point, as Ring Of Honor has only been existing as a plot device on AEW TV for months now. At some point that isn’t enough and they need to run another show of their own. I hope this doesn’t mean another month..
They’re back. There are all kinds of wrestling promotions in the world today and some of them have been around for a long time. Some of these names are well known to a lot of fans but there is one that is in the middle of a rather big transition. Now though, we might know a bit about the company’s future and it is a very good thing after some shaky times for the promotion. According to Fightful Select, the AEW roster has been told that Ring Of Honor will be returning to pay per view over the weekend of July 23. The event will be Death Before Dishonor in Lowell, Massachusetts, though there is no word on who will be at the show. It is also unknown what will take place after the show, with no announcement for a return to television. Ring Of Honor has only run one event this year, with Supercard of Honor on April 1. Opinion: That is the kind of news that changes things for Ring Of Honor, as the company now has something to look forward to. You can only get so far with wrestlers appearing..
Ring Of Honor Date: March 2, 2022 We have one more Hall of Fame special here and this time we are looking at CM Punk. This is one of the big ones as Punk played such a role in putting Ring of Honor on the map. Between his feuds with Raven and Samoa Joe, plus the Summer of Punk, there is a lot to pick from here and that makes things all the more fun. Let’s get to it. We open with Punk’s Hall of Fame video, including a look at straightedge, plus the highlights of his Ring of Honor career. From Death Before Dishonor III on June 18, 2005. Ring of Honor World Title: CM Punk vs. Austin Aries Aries is defending and drives Punk up against the ropes off a lockup. With that not going anywhere, they fight over a series of standing switches until Punk backs him into the corner for a break. Aries is back up with a middle rope elbow to the face before grinding away on a headlock. Punk reverses to a headscissors to work on Aries’ bad neck, allowing commentary to talk about all of the great things..
Ring of Honor Date: January 12, 2022 Host: Quinn McKay We’re continuing on the road to the relaunch, which means we get to continue our look through the video vault. So far that has only meant the best of 2021, which I can understand, but it would be nice to mix it up a bit with some of the older stuff. That is the foundation (not to be confused with The Foundation) of the company and a look back at it would be nice. Let’s get to it. As usual, these will be the full versions rather than the clipped editions that air. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay gives us the usual welcome but this week we have something special: the Best of 2021 Awards! From Death Before Dishonor, and one of the top five matches of the year as voted by the fans, with Rok-C named the Women’s Wrestler of the Year. Women’s Title: Miranda Alize vs. Rok-C For the vacant title so we get the Big Match Intros. Feeling out process to start as they head to the mat, with Rok-C grabbing a headlock….and let’s look at comment..
Another one on the list. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works as there is now a second major promotion where wrestlers can find work. That is a great change after so many years of WWE dominance, as you can only get so far with one company. Now a wrestler who was with WWE just last year has found a new home and it might be a better fit. AEW has announced that former NXT star Jake Atlas has officially signed with the company. This comes after Atlas made an appearance on AEW Dark: Elevation last month. Atlas is a former NXT star who was in August 2021. He had wrestled a match at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonored event before taking a hiatus from the wrestling industry. The AEW match was his first in over three months. Congratulations on winning your tryout match last night, Jake Atlas! What a great @AEW debut, and now @kennymarquez, I’ll see you Tomorrow night in Newark at the debut of #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork! Safe travels, and… Welcome to the team! #J..
