Gold Day: Six New Champions Crowned Over Two Different Events

Hand them over. Titles are one of the most important concepts in all of wrestling. They represent the best and often most talented stars in the promotion and are often the main focal points. It can mean a lot when a title changes hands and there are nights when several of them change hands during the same show. That was the case this weekend, with a special double shot. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Better Than Nothing? Tony Khan Announces Upcoming Weekly Ring Of Honor Series There were two major events held on Saturday, with Ring Of Honor Final Battle and NXT Deadline. Between the two shows, there were eight title matches with six title changes. The following titles changed hands at Final Battle: • Athena defeated Mercedes Martinez to win the Women’s Title • The Embassy defeated Dalton Castle and the Boys to win the Six Man Tag Team Titles • Wheeler Yuta defeated Daniel Garcia to win the Pure Title • The Briscoes defeated FTR in a Double Dog Collar match to win the Tag Team Titles • Claud..

REVIEW: ROH Best In The World 2018: They’re Not Far Off

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Best in the World 2018 Date: June 29, 2018 Location: UMBC Event Center, Cantonsville, Maryland Commentators: Colt Cabana, Ian Riccaboni It’s pay per view time and even though I’ve already seen the next TV show, none of that matters as we have a few weeks to spare because of Ring of Honor’s wacky TV schedule. The main event here is a triple threat between World Champion Dalton Castle, Cody and Marty Scurll but the real highlight should be the Young Bucks challenging the Briscoes for the Tag Team Titles..

AEW Dynamite Results – December 7, 2022

Dynamite Date: December 7, 2022 Location: H-E-B Center, Cedar Park, Texas Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Taz, Excalibur It’s the go home show for Final Battle and the Dynamite before next week’s Winter Is Coming so it is time to start hammering home the build for both shows. Believe it or not we have a battle royal this week for a shot at MJF’s….ring, rather than the World Title. That should get a lot of people on the show so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Battle Royal Ricky Starks, Brian Cage, Jungle Boy, Orange Cassidy, Shawn Dean, Dustin Rhodes, Lee Moriarty, Ethan Page, Matt Hardy, Kip Sabian, Dalton Castle, Butcher, Blade The winner gets to face MJF for the Dynamite Diamond whenever they decide. Sabian and Cassidy take turns ramming each other into the corner until the Butcher breaks it up. Cassidy is sent over the top so he tries to skin the cat, only to have Blade knock him out. Rhodes (hometown boy) hits a Canadian Destroyer on Sabian and clotheslines him out. Butcher c..

Multiple Titles Change Hands At ROH Death Before Dishonor

That’s a busy night. Titles are the easiest concept in all of wrestling and they always will be. Anyone can understand the idea of someone with the big shiny belt being the best around and in wrestling, those belts have to be defended. When one of them changes hands, it feels like something special has happened and that was the case again this weekend, multiple times over. Saturday night, Ring Of Honor made its return to pay per view with Death Before Dishonor. The card featured six title matches, with two title changes taking place. First up, Claudio Castagnoli win the Ring Of Honor World Title from Jonathan Gresham in the show’s opening match. Then, the Righteous lost the Ring Of Honor Six Man Tag Team Titles to Dalton Castle and the Boys, marking Castle and the Boys’ second reign as champions. The Pure Title, the Women’s Title, the Television Title and the Tag Team Titles were all retained. Opinion: This was quite the eventful night for Ring Of Honor, as having a single title chan..

World Champion Pulled From Pay Per View Match Over Injury, New Match Set

Hopefully it isn’t too bad. You never know when you are going to see someone get injured but what makes it worse is that you do not know how long they are going to be on the shelf. Different injuries have different times on the bench and there are some that are going to cause injuries you cannot see. That is the case again, and now a big match is off the card as a result. Impact Wrestling has announced that Ring of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham has been pulled from his match against Eddie Edwards at Saturday’s Rebellion event. Gresham suffered an injury during his match last week at AEW Battle of the Belts against Dalton Castle and has not wrestled since. Chris Bey will now face Edwards on the Countdown to Rebellion preshow and the X-Division Title match between champion Trey Miguel, Mike Bailey and Ace Austin will now be on the regular card. Opinion: That’s never good to see and unfortunately it seems like we might not be getting Gresham in the ring for a little while. You d..

Update: Bad News On Jonathan Gresham’s Health Status

That doesn’t sound good. An injury is one of the worst things that you can see in wrestling as you never know how long someone is going to be out of action. What can make it even worse is the kind of injury that is under the surface and has no real timetable to heal up. That is the case again with a current prominent star, and now things are already looking a bit worse. Earlier this week, Ring Of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham suffered a possible concussion in a match against Dalton Castle at AEW Battle Of The Belts II. The injury has not yet been confirmed, but Progress Wrestling has announced that Gresham will be missing his appearances for the company in the UK this weekend. The company did say that he will be back in action on May 15. There is no word on when Gresham might be wrestling before then. Regrettably, due to injury, Jonathan Gresham is not medically cleared to make the trip to the UK this weekend. Replacements will be named shortly for both #AtlasWeekend events. ..

Possible Injury At AEW Battle Of The Belts II

That isn’t good. Injuries can derail anything in wrestling as you never know when you might see someone put on the shelf. A wrestler can get hurt at any point and take them out of action, no matter what they are doing or how talented they might be. Unfortunately that seems to be the case again, as a fairly prominent wrestler might have gotten hurt in a high profile match. According to Fightful Select, Ring Of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham was checked out for a concussion following his title defense against Dalton Castle at AEW Battle Of The Belts II. There is no word on Gresham’s condition or the results of the test. The potential injury was said to take place early in the match when Gresham took a gutwrench suplex from Castle. Opinion: You never want to see anything like this as any kind of injury and a concussion is one of the nastiest that you are going to see. What matters most is Gresham being ok, as this is the kind of thing that could keep him on the shelf for a long t..

AEW Signs Top Independent Star, Debuting This Weekend

Welcome to the team. There are a lot of wrestlers on the AEW and WWE rosters, but there are several who are not signed to either of the major promotions. That means there are several stars out there that one of the promotions would want to sign. It is a big deal when one of them signs, and that seems to be the case again with one of the biggest named out there. According to Fightful Select, Ring Of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham has signed a contract with AEW and will be working for Ring Of Honor. Gresham is currently scheduled to defend his title against Dalton Castle on Saturday at Battle of the Belts II. There is no word on when Ring Of Honor will run its next event, after it returned from hiatus on April 1 with Supercard Of Honor. Opinion: This is hardly a surprise, as Gresham was rumored to be coming to AEW before Tony Khan purchased Ring Of Honor. He is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world today and AEW seemed interested in bringing him in for a long time. Gr..

Ring Of Honor TV – January 26, 2022

Ring Of Honor Date: January 26, 2022 We took a little detour last week into the history of the women’s division but this time around we should be back to normal. Well, at least as normal as you can get while the company is on hiatus and we’re looking at the Best Of Ring of Honor. That could mean a few things, but odds are we’ll be seeing more of the recent stuff. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Narrator Ian Riccaboni welcomes us to the show, where we will be going back to Final Battle in December 2021. TV Title: Dalton Castle vs. Rhett Titus vs. Joe Hendry vs. Silas Young Castle is defending and it’s one fall to a finish, with Castle bailing to the floor to walk into the crowd. Hendry gets taken outside so Young can send him into the barricade. Back in and Castle t-bone suplexes Young, meaning it’s time for a lap around the ring. Titus comes in for a quick rollup but gets sent outside for an apron flip dive from Young. Hendry blasts Titus with a clothesline but gets belly to be..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – December 29, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: December 29, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We have finally arrived at what seems to be the last original content episode of the show. That causes some mixed feelings, as it is sad to see the show go but it also finally puts it out of its misery. That should not be the case with any wrestling show, but it has been around here for a long time. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dalton Castle promises a Christmas surprise. Quinn McKay gives us the opening welcome and rundown. Josh Woods gets to draw his names for the Christmas Surprise twelve man tag team main event and seems rather pleased. Brian Johnson draws his names and is less impressed, as is his custom. Women’s Title: Holidead vs.Rok-C Holidead is challenging and says it is time for the dark reign to begin. Rok-C is ready for whatever Holidead brings at her because Holidead doesn’t have heart or the title. She still isn’t great at this ..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – October 13, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: October 13, 2021 Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Jay Briscoe, Mark Briscoe It’s time to start the build towards Final Battle and I’m not sure what that is going to mean. Ring of Honor has a weird fascination with waiting as long as they can to announce a card and I’m not sure how much we’re going to be getting before this show. That being said, this show has been pretty great lately so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here’s what’s coming tonight. Soldiers of Savagery vs. Dalton Castle/Dak Draper The Soldiers are ready to hurt people while Castle and Draper, with the Baby Chickens, promise to show how good they are. Castle wrestles Khan down to start and we actually get a clean break. The technical stuff doesn’t work for Khan so he shoulders Castle down with straight power. That works for Castle, who suplexes him down and hands it off to Draper, who gets caught by the arm. Moses comes in and knees Draper in the rib..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – July 21, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: July 21, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We continue the post Best In The World stretch and for once I’m actually caught up on the show. I’m not sure if we are going to be in the actual fallout period just yet, but it is nice to have the pay per view out of the way. This show could go in a lot of directions and that is not a bad thing. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dalton Castle doesn’t have time for an interview and leaves. After he is gone, the Foundation is ready for tonight’s eight man tag. Actually hold on a second though, as Jonathan Gresham has a banged up knee. Joe Keys, who is helping look at Gresham’s knee, gets the spot instead. Not quite thinking, Keys slaps the bad knee on the way out. Brian Johnson is our host this week because Quinn McKay is in action. He begrudgingly runs down the card (while mocking the Foundation and Gresham as much as possible). Johnson doesn’t like Quinn ..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – May 19, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: May 19, 2021 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Last week’s main event was a bit of a bizarre booking decision with Angelina Love and Mandy Leon cutting off the Cinderella story of Quinn McKay, which didn’t exactly leave a lot of good feelings. We’re coming up on I believe Best In The World though so it’s time to start setting some things up. Let’s get to it. Ian Riccaboni welcomes us to the show and runs down the card. Quinn is back next week. Battle Royal PCO, Mike Bennett, Bateman, LSG, Danhausen, O’Shay Edwards, Brian Mooney, Joe Keys, Dante Caballero, Ken Dixon, Mark Briscoe, Eric Martin, World Famous CB, Sledge This is between everyone who is currently unranked. The final two will have a singles match later, with the winner getting to choose to be ranked in the Pure or TV Title division. Dalton Castle is on commentary and only a handful get entrances. The factoids about PCO say that he last wrestl..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – November 18, 2020

Ring of Honor Date: November 18, 2020 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Things are starting to get back to normal here and that is the kind of thing that could be a good or bad situation. The stories are starting to slip back into place though and now we get to find out what the creative department has put together in the last few months. I’m as scared as you are. Let’s get to it. Amy Rose narrates a video about La Faccion Ingobernable, who is back soon. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay welcomes us to the show and throws it to the end of Brody King beating Dalton Castle last week. King says a fire of violence has been lit inside him. His comments were about ten seconds after two minutes of the match. The Briscoes and the Soldiers of Savagery talk trash to each other and are ready to fight. Soldiers of Savagery vs. Briscoes EC3 is on commentary. The Briscoes have new music and someone managed to count that they are 199-80 ..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – April 22, 2020

Ring of Honor Date: April 22, 2020 It’s Matt Taven’s week and that could mean a few things. Taven is someone who has done some good things in his time, but as long as we don’t hear him talk, everything should be fine. He has some solid matches on his resume and we might be seeing some of those here. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Taven talks about rehabbing from a knee injury in 2016 and knowing he had some goals. He knew he would have to beat Adam Cole because they started at the same time but Cole was already the World Champion. Then he beat Dalton Castle, allowing him to bring in the REAL World Title. The match that gives him the most pride is going an hour with Jay Lethal, even though he didn’t win the World Title. Then he won the World Title in Madison Square Garden, which was all he ever wanted. From War of the Worlds 2019: Grand Rapids. Ring of Honor World Title: Matt Taven vs. Mark Haskins Taven is defending and tries to hit him with the belt before the bell. That earn..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – March 27, 2019

Ring of Honor Date: March 27, 2019 Location: RP Funding Center, Lakeland, Florida Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana The post-Anniversary Show shows continue here and that means another one off night that may or may not mean anything. There’s always the chance that none of this goes anywhere, which can be rather tiresome. At the same time though, there is a real chance of getting something very nice out of these shows. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dalton Castle/The Boys vs. Lifeblood Bandido/Tracy Williams/Juice Robinson with Tenille Dashwood for Lifeblood here. Castle sends Robinson to the floor for the strut to start, only to have Robinson throw him to the floor for a strut of his own. Another exchange of tosses to the floor is capped off by Castle being sent over the top but he comes back in for another strut off. It’s off to Williams instead, with the Boys making some rather weird noises to suggest that they want in. Boy #2 comes in for a chop but has to bring in #1..

One More? WWE Interested In Signing Former Ring Of Honor World Champion.

Is there anyone left for them to get? WWE, and NXT in particular, have picked up more names than they know what to do with as of late. They have all kinds of talent, to the point where they barely seem to know what to do with all of it. That’s never stopped them before, as there is always another name of two worth picking up. That seems to be the case now, as they have their eye on another top indy star. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is interested in signing former Ring of Honor World Champion Dalton Castle. This isn’t the first time WWE has gone after Castle, as they went after him before back in 2017. Castle, 32, has been with Ring of Honor since 2013 and is a one time Ring of Honor World Champion, having won the title in December of 2017. Castle is rather….different. Check out this promo for Castle’s match at Final battle 2018: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Castle is the kind of unique character that you don’t get to see very often in ..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – November 21, 2018

Ring of Honor Date: November 21, 2018 Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana We’re still in Philadelphia and the big story coming out of last week was the return of Dalton Castle, who helped Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeat the Kingdom. Then he made it clear that he wanted the World Title, which means he’ll likely be facing either Lethal or Taven at the upcoming Final Battle. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Castle returning and looking at the title. Opening sequence. Here are Castle and the Boys to get things going. Castle mentions that he was injured for over three months, but he didn’t go home and just sip mint juleps. He went home and sipped mint juleps but started putting in the world. Castle went to physical therapy and even went to Australia to kiss a kangaroo. Now though, his lone mission is to get back the World Title. He wants the champ, but gets Matt Taven instead. He’s the only man who can call himself the..
