Before Diamond Mine, Strong was a part of The Undisputed Era, which consisted of himself, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish. So Long: Former Champion Departs WWE

Fare thee well. There have been a lot of departures from WWE over the last several months and the majority of them have not been against the wrestlers’ wishes. WWE has released so many wrestlers that it has been hard to keep up with all of them, but not everyone has been let go. Now it seems that another wrestler has left, but this time it was their own decision to depart. According to Fightful, Kushida has left WWE. This comes after Kushida was attacked by Von Wagner last week on NXT, though there was no indication that Kushida was leaving. Kushida officially signed with WWE in April 2019 and spent his time with the company in NXT and on 205 Live. He won the Cruiserweight Title in April 2021 and held it for a little over five months before losing the title to Roderick Strong in September of the same year. There is no word on where Kushida plans to sign next. Fightful has confirmed that Kushida has left WWE We'll have details as we learn them on https://t.co/jy8u4a7WDa. pic.twi..

Another Former WWE Star Makes AEW Debut

He’s new. There have been a lot of movements around the wrestling world, with several prominent wrestlers jumping from one promotion to another. That can make for some very interesting moments as you don’t know when someone is going to show up. It is especially fun when you might get to see someone reach a new level of potential, which might be the case again this week. This week on AEW Dynamite, Buddy Matthews made his debut in an attack on Pac and Penta Obscura. Matthews helped the Kings of the Black throne attack Pac and Obscura, seemingly joining the House of Black in the process. Matthews is formerly known as Buddy Murphy in WWE, where he is a former Cruiserweight Champion. Black and Murphy feuded during their time together in WWE, which was referenced last week during a House of Black vignette. The vignette featured a knock on Black’s door, which is how Matthews started his feud with Black in WWE. Opinion: I don’t think this is much of a surprise, especially after the knocking ..

Another WWE Name Requests Release After Long Run With Company

He isn’t a fan either. The WWE roster has changed so much in recent years that it is hard to keep track of where everyone is going. That is not exactly a great thing to see, as several wrestlers are going all over the place, with most of them making their way out of the company. Some wrestlers have even done this by choice, and that seems to be the case again with another veteran. According to PWInsider.com, Brian Kendrick has requested his release from WWE. Kendrick has been working as a coach and occasional wrestler, though he has not wrestled a match since October. He had been scheduled for a match against Harland in NXT but the match never took place. Kendrick has reportedly requested his release from the company for the last six weeks. Kendrick has wrestled on and off for WWE for several years in multiple stints. He is a former Tag Team and Cruiserweight Champion who has most recently wrestled on 205 Live. His most recent run in WWE began when he took part in the Cruiserweight C..

Two Title Changes Take Place During NXT New Year’s Evil

They went for the gold. Titles are the most important thing in all of wrestling and have been for a very long time now. In theory at least, every wrestler who gets in the ring wants to win the biggest title around. That is how wrestling has worked for pretty much all of wrestling history and it is still the case to this day. Title changes make a difference, and that was the case this week. NXT presented its annual New Year’s Evil event this week, featuring three title matches, with two titles changing hands. First up, North American Champion Carmelo Hayes defeated Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong to unify the titles, with the North American Title being the name of the championship going forward. Then in the show’s main event, Bron Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa to win the NXT Title. The win marks Breakker’s first title in WWE. In the other title match, Women’s Champion Mandy Rose defeated Raquel Gonzalez and Cora Jade to retain her title. It was a big night. Check out how the..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – January 4, 2022 (New Year’s Evil)

NXT Date: January 4, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett It’s a big night as we have New Year’s Evil featuring the main event of NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa defending against Bron Breakker. That’s big enough, but we also have a triple threat match for the Women’s Title and AJ Styles confronting Grayson Waller. Not wrestling mind you, but confronting him. Let’s get to it. The opening video looks at the beginning of the new year with a focus on the card. Then we get to Breakker vs. Ciampa, when the video shifts into evil. North American Title/Cruiserweight Title: Carmelo Hayes vs. Roderick Strong Title for title, with Trick Williams and Diamond Mine here too. They fight over a lockup to start until Strong grabs an armbar to take over. Back up and Hayes scores with a dropkick to stagger Strong for a change. Strong tries to take him down but Hayes nips up and scores with an enziguri. With that not working, Strong chops him har..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – January 1, 2018: Feels Like It Was Just Four Years Ago

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Night Raw Date: January 1, 2018 Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Booker T. It’s a new year (yes it is) and that probably doesn’t mean much. We’ll be getting ready for the Royal Rumble in less than a month and tonight that includes an appearance by Brock Lesnar. Other than that we have Roman Reigns defending the Intercontinental Title against Samoa Joe and Cedric Alexander challenging Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Title. Let’s get to it. Alexa Bl..

One For Two: WWE Announces Plans For Unified Titles

Its name shall be revered. Titles are one of the easiest concepts in all of wrestling, as anyone can get the idea in a hurry. One wrestler has a championship, often represented by a big shiny belt, and others want to take it away. That story can be told in all kinds of ways but ultimately it comes down to wanting the prestigious honor. Now we know what the newest one is going to be called. Next week at NXT New Year’s Evil, North American Champion Carmelo Hayes will face Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong in a title unification match. WWE has posted a preview of the match, asking who will walk out as NXT North American Champion? This comes as Joe Gacy has been campaigning for the end of the Cruiserweight name, citing its unfairness to heavier wrestlers. This could be a great one. Check out the champs in action and face to face: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is about..

205 Live Results – December 17, 2021

205 Live Date: December 17, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph It’s almost the holiday season and the show continues to seem done with the cruiserweight theme. That doesn’t seem to mean much around here, but it means we’re stuck with some less than interesting matches from the NXT undercard. At least the main events tend to go well. Let’s get to it. Lash Legend vs. Sarray Legend runs her over to start but Sarray bridges out of a cover in a hurry. Back up and Sarry fires off some running forearms until a faceplant cuts her off. An elbow gives Lash two and a powerslam is good for the same. Legend misses another elbow though and Sarray fires off more forearms. They get back up and Sarray charges into….I think it was supposed to be a front facelock but Legend spun her over into what wound up being a powerslam instead. Sarray hits a middle rope dropkick for two of her own but misses a running clothesline. They trade rollup..

Backstage Heat On AEW Star Over Tweets Insulting ROH’s Jonathan Gresham

He went a bit too far. There are a lot of ways to set up a wrestling feud, though some of the modern versions are a little bit different than the classics. Social media has become an option to set up a feud, but like almost anything else, it has to be done right. This time around, it seems that a wrestler tried to set something up but didn’t quite st things up properly. According to Fightful Select, AEW’s Anthony Ogogo had some heat backstage over a tweet he sent to Ring of Honor’s Jonathan Gresham. After Gresham won the Ring of Honor World Title at Final Battle earlier this month, Ogogo tweeted that Gresham’s title win was similar to Hornswoggle being the final holder of the original WWE Cruiserweight Title. Ogogo continue to go back and forth with Gresham’s wife Jordynne Grace, who wrestles for Impact Wrestling. Gresham and Grace were said to not be involved in the situation and several AEW wrestlers were not pleased. However, it is believed by some that Ogogo was merely trying to ..

WWE Seems To Be Unifying Two Of Its Titles

One for two. Titles are the lifeblood of a wrestling promotion as you have people fighting to be recognized as the best in the world. They have been around forever and always will be, even if there are occasionally more than there need to be around a promotion. That is the case in WWE, but now it seems that they are getting rid of one of them as a few are going to be unified. This week on NXT, a title for title match was set for New Year’s Evil on January 4, 2022, as North American Champion Carmelo Hayes will face NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong. The two champions ran into each other last week and got into a brawl this week, with the title match being made later in the evening. This comes as WWE is phasing down its cruiserweight division, as the weight limit has been waved and there has been talk of changing 205 Live. We could be in for something special here. Check out the titles in action, plus some unification matches: [This post contains video, click to play] [This ..

205 Live Results – December 10, 2021

205 Live Date: December 10, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph We’re in a weird place with this show as WWE has actually realized that this show has little to do with the cruiserweight division and hasn’t been live in years. It might actually be time to change things up a bit and that is long overdue. Granted the show has already changed everything but the name, so maybe now it’s time to complete the ordeal. Let’s get to it. Amari Miller vs. Lash Legend Legend shoves her down to start but Miller isn’t impressed. A dropkick staggers Legend but she blocks an armdrag without much effort. There’s an overhead suplex into a nipup as Miller is in trouble early. A release fall away slam sets up a big boot to the chest but Miller avoids a charge in the corner. Miller is back with a springboard Codebreaker into a cradle for two of her own, only to have Legend shrug it off. Something like a torture rack (over Legend’s back instea..

205 Live Results – December 3, 2021

205 Live Date: December 3, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph The show’s future might be in jeopardy as the Cruiserweight Title is doing wacky things like getting rid of the weight limit. That makes me wonder if the Cruiserweight Title has much of a future and it is certainly nice to have that as a possible development. The title hasn’t needed to be around for a long time, but nowhere near as long as this show. Let’s get to it. Ivy Nile vs. Erica Yan Diamond Mine is here with Nile, who cranks on a headlock to start. A sliding knee to the ribs has Yan in more trouble and there’s a suplex to put her down again. The double arm crank goes on but Yan fights up and spins her into a sunset flip for two. Nile kicks her into the corner though and an enziguri sets up the choke to finish Yan at 4:19. Result: Ivy Nile b. Erica Yan – Choke (4:19) Draco Anthony is still in that coffee shop, where his actions will speak louder than..

Why WWE Is Making Major Changes To One Of Its Weekly Shows

I hope it’s erasable ink. WWE has all kinds of television shows and you could quite easily say that there are too many of them. With so much television, it can be easy to see the lack of focus, but sometimes WWE will run a show that has a specific purpose. Now though, one of WWE’s most focused shows is ready for a replacement and it seems to be one that is long overdue. According to Wrestling Observer Live, WWE will be likely to change the name of 205 Live. The show is no longer live and now WWE officials do not want their champions to be under 205lbs. The show has featured non-cruiserweight matches for several weeks now, as it has focused on lower level NXT stars. There is no word on when the change would take place or what the new name would be. This change was referenced this week on NXT by Joe Gacy, though the show was not specifically named. 205 Live has had its moments. NXT WarGames 2021 Live Coverage And Results

WarGames 2021 Date: December 5, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett We’re not at a Takeover, but we’re pretty much at a Takeover. It’s close enough to November so let’s have some WarGames matches, with the men and the women both getting a shot. Other than that, we have a hair vs. hair match, a Tag Team Title match, and a Cruiserweight Title match with only one cruiserweight. Let’s get to it. The opening video looks at WarGames and now violent this is going to be. Team Toxic Attraction vs. Team Raquel Gonzalez Toxic Attraction: Mandy Rosa, Jacy Jayne, Gigi Dolin, Dakota Kai Gonzalez: Raquel Gonzalez, Kay Lee Ray, Cora Jade, Io Shirai We’re in the double cage with Kay Lee Ray and Dakota Kai starting. The first period is five minutes, the rest are three minutes, you can win by pinfall/submission once everyone is in, and Jade falls off of her skateboard on the way in. Ray brings in a baseball bad so Kai brings i..

Now On The Team: AEW Officially Signs Another Former WWE Star

Welcome to the team! There are a lot of wrestlers on the AEW roster, as the company has put together a heck of a lineup. They have a great mixture of young, up and coming wrestlers, veterans and legends. Several of them have come from other promotions, many of which have had quite the exposure. That was the case again this week, as AEW has announced the signing of a former WWE star. AEW President Tony Khan has sent out a tweet promoting the TNT Title match between champion Sammy Guevara and Tony Nese for this week’s edition of Rampage. In the same tweet, Khan announced that Nese has officially signed a contract with the company, making him a member of the roster. Nese is a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion and was released from the company earlier this year: The TNT Title is at stake in a huge match TONIGHT on #AEWRampage! We have a great Champion @sammyguevara & I’m so impressed by the challenger, he’s been one of the hottest free agents in the business; ahead of this HUGE match ton..

205 Live Results – November 26, 2021

205 Live Date: November 26, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph NXT is on its way to WarGames and that means we are on our way to a non-cruiserweight challenging for the Cruiserweight Title. I’m not sure why that should be a surprise, as Roderick Strong hasn’t defended the title in about two months, so the future isn’t exactly bright. At the same time, that has very little to do with this show so let’s get to it. Valentina Feroz vs. Elektra Lopez Legado del Fantasma is here with Lopez. Feroz tries to take her down to start and is blocked with straight power. A hard slap to the face sets up a slam spun into a Rock Bottom and we hit the nerve hold. That’s broken up and Feroz kicks away at the leg, setting up a running hurricanrana. Lopez isn’t having that though and muscles her up into a sitout powerbomb for the pin at 3:50. Result: Elektra Lopez b. Valentina Feroz – Sitout powerbomb (3:50) Erica Yan vs. Amari Miller Th..

WWE Considering Dropping One Of Its Titles

A little less silver. Titles are a rather simple concept in the world of wrestling as they are so easy to understand: the person who has the big shiny belt is at the top of the ladder and everyone else wants to take it away. That is something anyone can understand, but there is a limit to how many titles can still be effective. WWE seems to know this and might be dropping a title. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is considering dropping the NXT Cruiserweight Title. The potential move would be part of a long string of changes NXT has been making in recent months. This comes before Joe Gacy, who does not meet the cruiserweight limit, challenges Roderick Strong for the title at WarGames. There is no word on if Gacy will be winning the title or if it will just be dropped with Strong retaining. Strong has not defended the title since the September 28 edition of NXT. The title has done well when it is around. Check out some of its better moments: [This post contains video, click..

AEW Signs Another Former WWE Star

He’s up next. AEW has been quite the game changer in just their few years of existence. While they have done all kinds of things for the wrestling world, one of the most important has been offering wrestlers another major promotion where they can ply their trade. That is something that has been missing from the mainstream wrestling world for a long time now, and it turns out that we are going to be seeing someone new in an AEW ring. Last week’s AEW Dynamite featured a cameo by former WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese, who was shown sitting in the crowd multiple times. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Nese has signed a contract with AEW, though the company has not yet announced a signing. Nese was released from WWE in June along with several other promotions over the course of the year. You might need a refresher.
