That wasn’t nice. Wrestlers have quite the difficult job, as they are required to make fans either love or hate them while realizing that what they are seeing might not be on the up and up. That is a tricky situation, but there are ways that villains can do various evil things which will drive fans crazy. That was the case this week at Monday Night Raw, but things were a little backwards. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They Are? Major Change On The Usos’ Elimination Chamber Status During his most recent run with WWE, Brock Lesnar has been a babyface for an extended period of time in several years. This has included wearing a cowboy hat and speaking to the fans when he comes to the ring. A clip from this week’s Monday Night Raw has made its way to Twitter, showing Lesnar putting his hat on a young fan and then taking it back. This aired during Lesnar’s entrance on the television broadcast. He might need some work. Check out Lesnar messing with a kid and his recent efforts: [This post contai..
And so, it ends. There are all kinds of ways to present an angle in wrestling and one of the best is by building up to a moment until the fans are ready to cheer for it. This can take time, but the effort is worth it in the end. WWE presents angles like this from time to time and they did it again this weekend, with the reaction from the crowd being quite the sight to behold. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The New King: Gunther Sets Impressive All Time Record In Royal Rumble Match The main event of this weekend’s Royal Rumble saw Roman Reigns retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship over Kevin Owens. Following the match, the Bloodline attacked Owens, with Reigns telling Sami Zayn to attack Owens. Instead, Zayn turned on Reigns by hitting him with a chair. The rest of the Bloodline attacked Zayn, save for Jey Uso, who walked away from the beating to end the show. It was a crazy path. That’s some special praise. Wrestling fans can be very passionate about what they love to watch and there is nothing wrong with that. It can become a major part of their lives and something that they want to talk about and experience as often as possible. Some fans even include it in the major moments of their lives and it can be a rather special event. That was the case again, and now a wrestler has been honored by the moment. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: All Set: Two More Legends Set For WWE Raw XXX Earlier this week, Seth Rollins tweeted that he felt like main eventing WrestleMania this year. A fan responded by tweeting out a video of himself from his wedding, as he walked down the aisle to Rollins’ WWE theme music and impersonating Rollins’ entrance. Rollins responded to the video, saying (through emojis) that “this is bat s*** crazy and I love it”. Rollins is currently set for the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble. Really feel like main eventing WrestleMania this year. — Seth “Freakin’” Rolli..
Rampage Date: December 23, 2022 Location: Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho We’re still in front of one of those crazy Texas crowds and in this case there is a rather unique match. This time around we are having a Casino Trios Battle Royal, with the winning team splitting $300,000. That should be enough to make things interesting, and seems to be the big focal point this week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Three Kings Christmas Casino Battle Royal So this is a nine team Casino Battle Royal (basically the Royal Rumble) for $300,000 and all three members of the team have to be eliminated. We start with the Best Friends/Orange Cassidy, La Faccion Ingobernable (Rush/Preston Vance/Kalistico) and Butcher and the Blade/Kip Sabian. Triple brawls break out in various corners until the Best Friends and Cassidy are kicked into the middle of the ring for the Big Hug. Cassidy is sent outside but not eliminated, allowing R..
It’s a different way to go. There are all kinds of ways to make a wrestler stand and sometimes a promotion needs to do something different to shake it up. Occasionally you will see a wrestler get something changed up to offer a new presentation. That was the case again this week, as two wrestlers received a change each to freshen things up just a little bit. This week on Monday Night Raw, a wrestler’s theme song and another wrestler’s ring name were both changed. First up, Johnny Gargano came to the ring for a match with the Miz to a remixed version of his “Rebel Heart” theme, featuring a new vocalist and rift. Later in the show, Mia Yim’s name was changed to “Michin”, which she said means “crazy” in Korean. The name change has also been made official on WWE.com. ?? . Michin (Mee-chin). Crazy. ??#WWERAW @wwe pic.twitter.com/Px64fXiKTy — The HBIC (@MiaYim) November 22, 2022 Gargano got some attention too. Check out the new theme plus what both of them did during the show: [This pos..
Alexa Bliss is one of the most marketable stars that WWE has under contract, which often means a crazy schedule that keeps her away from home for significant stretches of time. Anyone with pets will tell you how hard it is to leave them for an extended period of time. The five-time WWE Women’s Champion just went more than 20 days being home. RingSideNews followed the story of her day on social media. The story goes that she went home for a “visit” and could only stay for about 8 hours. However, her dogs were so happy to see her after basically three weeks away that Alexa Bliss suffered a bloody lip in all the excitement. Potentially sensitive photo is below: Get home – dogs are so excited that they split my lip… fantastic pic.twitter.com/6NmIcHjkOj — Lexi (Kaufman) Cabrera (@AlexaBliss_WWE) November 18, 2022 It’s not anything that will keep her out of the ring, but we’ve all gotten a happy scratch or love bite from our pets, especially after some time apart. It’s just a testament ..
At least he had a reason. The biggest wrestling story of the year has been the departure of Vince McMahon from WWE. After nearly four decades of McMahon in charge of the company, he has finally stepped down and handed the reins off to someone else. That has caused quite a few changes and now we have a better idea about one of McMahon’s less well received decisions. CJ Perry, formerly known as Lana in WWE, recently appeared on In The Kliq to talk about some of her time in WWE. Perry mentioned the Rusev Day story, which took place in 2017-18 and saw Rusev become one of the more popular stars in WWE, though he never officially turned good. According to Perry, McMahon never allowed the full turn because he saw Rusev as his “Bulgarian Brute 300 pound crazy villain” and did not want to change his vision. Rusev was released from WWE in April 2020 and debuted in AEW five months later. Opinion: I can see McMahon’s thinking here, but ultimately you need to take a chance at some point. WWE spen..
Yeah he did that. There has never been anyone like Vince McMahon in the history of wrestling and there never will be again. McMahon was the definition of a one of a kind personality who was known for his odd quirks, including getting annoyed at things for no apparent reason. There have been several instances of single words driving McMahon crazy over the years and now we know another one. During a recent edition of his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed that McMahon would get angry when someone used the word “strap” to refer to a championship during a promo. While McMahon would not allow the word “belt” to be used, the word “strap” would reportedly cause him to go into a rage, to the point where nothing else in the promo mattered to him. McMahon retired from WWE earlier this year after nearly 40 years in charge of the company. Opinion: This is about as McMahon of a thing as you can get and I’m not remotely surprised. He has always been known..
The man has spoke. Becky Lynch was recently interviewed by ESPN as a part of a special article on the departure of Vince McMahon as CEO of WWE. She spoke on his departure as well as her thoughts on Triple H now being in charge of the company. Below are some comments from The Man: On Vince McMahon leaving WWE: “It is the dawning of a new era,” Becky Lynch, one of WWE’s top stars, told ESPN on Friday. “For me, it’s crazy and sad because everything I’ve ever known about WWE has always had Vince in charge, and we wouldn’t have WWE the way it is if it wasn’t for Vince. He’s somebody who believed in me and allowed me to do everything that I’ve done.” On Triple H being in charge of the company: “We have the opportunity to change some things that maybe weren’t so great that we didn’t love,” Lynch said to ESPN. “I think everybody’s very excited and optimistic because we know that the people in charge [are] some of the greatest minds in the business, you know. Having Triple H at the helm of..
This is only a rumor, so take it for what it’s worth. According to a tweet from the WrestleVotes Twitter account, tonight’s episode of raw he said to be looking really good and is a packed show. The tweet further states that the show is looking so good that the USA Network is allowing the 1st hour to be commercial-free if WWE wants. I’m told RAW tonight looks really good as of now, and is a packed show. So much so, USA Network is allowing the 1st hour to be commercial free if WWE wants. — WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) August 1, 2022 Tonight will be the first episode of Raw that is completely under the control of Triple H since he took over the role of head of creative. The company is coming off a very successful Summerslam event that had many people in the wrestling community buzzing about the future of WWE. Some of the highlights from Summerslam included the return of both Dakota Kai and Io Shirai, as well as a crazy main event that included Brock Lesnar lifting the ring with the ..
Summerslam 2022 Date: July 30, 2022 Location: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee Commentators: Michael Cole, Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s time for one of the biggest shows of the year and that means we are in another stadium. The show is going to be interesting for a few reasons, including the fact that it is the first Summerslam ever not under Vince McMahon’s watch. That means we might be seeing something new this time around so let’s get to it. The opening video features a country song about Nashville and how it’s a crazy town. The rest of the video looks at the major matches, with Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar not getting that much of a focus above the rest. Raw Women’s Title: Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch Lynch is challenging. They go to the mat to start with Belair running her over, only to have Lynch snap the arm to take over. Back up and Belair backflips away, setting up a release Glam Slam. A standing moonsault gives Belair two but Belair’s arm is banged up..
Can you blame them? The WWE women’s division has come so far along that it is almost hard to fathom just where things were before. The division has gone from little more than time filler to a portion of the roster that has headlined just about everything in WWE. That is a crazy accomplishment, but as time goes on, it seems that things are not as happy as they once were. According to Fightful Select, a group of women had complained to WWE about the lack of women being used on SmackDown earlier this year. With Charlotte taking time off and the returns of Asuka and Lacey Evans, the group was waiting to see how things went on SmackDown. In addition, the departures of Naomi and Sasha Banks has allowed for more women to be used. Ronda Rousey’s return has also helped, as she is willing to work with a variety of women on the roster. As a result, the group seems to be happier with the current situation. Opinion: It’s kind of hard to blame the women for being unhappy, as they have a point with ..
I picked a heck of a week to do a column in advance last week because everything went haywire. Ignoring the whole Jeff Hardy fiasco (which seems like something that is far from over), there was the crazy shakeup at WWE. There were changed made in the last week or so that would have seemed unthinkable not so long ago but now have come to be a reality. That’s what we are going to be looking at this week (shocking I know), plus one bit of fallout that might make things all the worse, at least for fans. So as you probably know, WWE is officially investigating Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis for an affair with a WWE employee. McMahon reportedly paid to keep her quiet, as well as raised her salary when the affair began before passing her to Laurinaitis “like a toy”. I’ll let your skin crawl for a bit after that thought before moving on to what this has already meant. The initial fallout from these shenanigans has already started, with McMahon taking a step back from his roles as CEO and..
That is too far. Fans are the life blood of wrestling and the last few years have shown that the industry is not the same without them. You can only do so much without having fans in the arena and they keep the shows functioning as usual. However, there are occasions where a fan takes things too far, and that seems to be the case again in a very serious way indeed. On Tuesday night, Alexa Bliss was promoting an upcoming fundraiser when someone posted a comment asking if she had anything to say. Bliss responded saying that she has seen a direct message from the fan threatening to shoot Bliss and her husband Ryan Cabrera. Bliss has said that she has turned those in, presumably to the authorities. There is no word on any response from either the fan or from the authorities as a result. Bliss returned to action on Monday Night Raw this month after nearly three months off. This is crazy man wtf??? pic.twitter.com/qJWxxYecTP — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) May 25, 2022 View this post on Inst..
I guess that counts. There are a lot of seemingly random changes that take place in WWE and a lot of them seem to stem from Vince McMahon’s crazy decisions. Some of these changes feel like they come out of nowhere and last as long as McMahon thinks it is a good idea, which might be the case again. Now we do have an idea of why McMahon is making the changes he has made. WWE has recently changed several wrestlers’ names, with the new rule saying that wrestlers are unable to use their real names or names they used on the independent circuit. According to Wrestling Observer Live, McMahon issued the change as a way to prevent wrestlers from using their WWE names if/when they leave for AEW. The idea has led to changes such as Austin Theory becoming just Theory and a variety of other changes to brand new names. Opinion: It does make sense, but ultimately I don’t think fans are going to care that much about what an easily identifiable wrestler is going to be called. Fans are going to know if..
NXT LVL Up Date: March 25, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Sudu Shah We’re back in Orlando and things have actually been changing a bit as of late. That could open up some doors going forward around here, though I wouldn’t get my hopes up. There are some names who are becoming regulars around here, as the levels of the NXT roster become more defined. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Joe Gacy vs. Quincy Elliott Elliott is a rather large man and before the match, Gacy says he deserves a chance. Gacy’s headlock doesn’t get him very far as Elliott hits a shoulder. Some gyrations mess with Gacy so Elliott grabs a headlock. That’s broken up so Gacy stomps him down in the corner before driving in elbows on the mat. The armbar goes on, with Gacy looking a bit crazy. Elliott fights up and hits a splash to the back as Gacy tries a drop down. Gacy gets tied in the Tree of Woe but Harland offers a distraction so Gacy can escape. The ha..
Maybe she wants to do something else? With so many people on the WWE roster, it can be tricky to find something for them to do. That can make some of WWE’s maneuvers seem all the stranger, as it can be rather confusing to try and figure out what they are thinking from time to time. That is the case again now, as a recent return seems to have fizzed out just after it got started. Now the wrestler involved has commented on it too. Last month at Elimination Chamber, Alexa Bliss wrestled her first match for the company since September. However, she has not appeared or been mentioned in any significant way since. Some fans asked Bliss about this on Twitter, with Bliss responding that it isn’t her decision when she comes back. There is no word on when Bliss will be back, but previous reports suggested it would be after WrestleMania. Isn’t life just Crazy sometimes …? — Lexi Kaufman (@AlexaBliss_WWE) March 18, 2022 Yes it is. Now come back. — $tr@ightfire (@24nshika) March 18, 2022 not..
That’s something. Every now and then, you will see a spot in wrestling that gets your attention in a big way. It might be anything from a big dive to a huge stunt, but it is something that gets people watching and then keeps them talking. That was the case this week and it seems to have been done for one of the more specific reasons you will ever hear. The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured Cody Rhodes vs. Andrade El Idolo in a street fight. The end of the match saw Rhodes superplex El Idolo through a flaming table. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea of the finish was for Rhodes to be able to give his hometown a special moment. The previous time AEW was in Atlanta, Rhodes moonsaults off of the top of a cage to defeat Wardlow. It was a crazy match. Check out some of Rhodes’ bigger moments: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: It was cer..
It’s a big part of the company. Wrestling and video games really are kind of a perfect match. Fans can play as any wrestler they want and beat up anyone else on the roster, with a crazy amount of combinations available. Given how detailed games have gotten these days, there are more possibilities than anyone could conceivably play through. Now we know what the new version will have. WWE has released a video showcasing new features on the upcoming WWE 2K22 video game. The list, known as the Hit List, includes various graphic and presentation enhancements, plus several modes, including My Faction, My GM, My Rise and more. There will be more details announced at some point in January 2022, though there is no release date for the full game. There is a lot here. Check out the video, plus some hype for past editions: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is one of those things that ..
