Finn Balor was recently interviewed by BT Sport, where he discussed his conversation with Vince McMahon about joining the Judgement Day and turning heel. This was also the evening that Edge was kicked out of the group. [This post contains video, click to play] Below are Balor’s comments: “I’ve actually never watched this back at all. This was such a weird night because I remember it was like 7:55 PM, and we’re going live at eight o’clock. I knock on Vince McMahon’s office, and I go there, and I say, ‘Sir, have you got a minute?’ He looks up from his papers, and he goes, ‘Is it about tonight?’ I said, ‘Yeah, it’s about tonight. It’s about the heel turn.’ He goes, ‘Oh, come in.’ Balor continued, “I just wanted some direction as to, ‘Hey, am I going out there in the suit? In The Judgment Day colors, or am I going out as Finn? Am I going out to music? What way are we doing it?’ He said, ‘Oh, you just go out as Finn and then do the segment.’ I said, ‘Well, oh, okay. That’s cool’. “The..
The boss has spoken. According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Triple H held a talent meeting before tonight’s episode of Smackdown. There, he and other WWE executives addressed a number of reports that have been circulating as of late. Triple H told everyone that Vince McMahon’s return to the company is to see whether or not they sell, and who they should sell to. He said this would not change the creative team or process. Furthermore, Triple H did say that he and Vince McMahon have conversations about creative, but Vince defers the final say to Triple H. It was also noted that Kevin Dunn spoke at the Smackdown talent meeting and had interesting things to say. Triple H led the talent meeting today in Green Bay. AEW superstar Saraya was recently interviewed by Metro, where she discussed a number of topics. Among them were why she decided to join AEW, working for Triple H vs. Tony Khan and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On a conversation with Triple H and why Saraya decided to join AEW: ‘He did give me the opportunity to potentially be a GM again, and give me the opportunity to be like, “If you ever potentially want to wrestle again, I’ll give you that opportunity too”. He was very open about any ideas that I had.’ Saraya laughed: ‘When AEW started you’re kinda like, “ooh, what’s going on over there?” It’s like the movie, the bad boy with a leather jacket and a cigarette, kinda cruising in the background like, “Who’s that bad boy?” ‘You’re definitely intrigued by the company! Just seeing how quickly in three years that it’s built – I’m like, this company! You have the bad, tribal fans, but whether you like them or not you can’t fault how amazing it is to become another..
AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF was recently interviewed by TODAY and discussed a number of topics. Among them was the character that he plays on television, being a Jewish athlete, his future in pro wrestling, and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On the character that MJF plays compared to real life: “This is me 100% of the time, 365 days a year. It doesn’t change. You can ask people in my industry — and people have — and then fans are like, ‘Oh, these other people are just keeping up the ruse.’ This is me,” he says. On being a Jewish athlete: “How much of that is deep-rooted in antisemitism and how much of that is deep-rooted in jealousy and wishing that these people were in the position I’m in? I don’t know. But what I do know is it doesn’t make it OK,” he says. “It’s just very funny to me that now all of a sudden the conversations being started because Kanye West decided to speak out on the underbelly of society — antisemitism has always been there, alwa..
That’s a rare one. There are all kinds of medical issues that can cause problems for wrestlers, some of which are rather common in the sport. At the same time, there are some that you do not see very often and those can make for some of the more interesting cases. That would apply to a major AEW star, who has revealed a medical issue he had to deal with earlier in his life. AEW’s Adam Cole recently appeared on the Wrestle Buddies podcast, where he discussed his previous issues with sleepwalking. Cole talked about how he suffered from the condition during his teenage years, occasionally waking up in strange places, such as face down on the floor. He also mentioned waking up in mid-conversation with someone and waking up to realize what was going on. Cole’s condition seems to have ended before he began his in-ring career in 2008. Opinion: Well that’s certainly unique. There are all kinds of problems in wrestling but Cole has one of the ones that you do not hear about very often. It’s g..
They were talking. WWE has long since been the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that is not likely to change anytime soon. However, for the first time in decades, a well funded promotion has risen up to be the second biggest company and shares some of that big stage. AEW has taken the secondary spot along with some former WWE stars. It seems that they had even tried to pick up another. According to Fightful Select, AEW and former WWE star Paige had some conversations about potentially working together in some capacity. There is nothing to suggest that they reached an agreement, though it is possible that something could change in the future. Paige has retired from the ring due to a series of neck injuries, though she has said that she could wrestle again in a special moment. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that gets a few eyebrows going up but I would be surprised to see Paige getting back in the ring. Paige is a very talented star and was a big bridg..
He has spoken. Malakai Black took to social media recently and issued a statement regarding his status with AEW, mental health issues, and more. This comes after reports surfaced that he requested and was granted his release from the company. The statement reads as follows: All. Firstly thank you all for your messages, know they are being read and appreciated. With all the turmoil going on in the landscape of Professional Wrestling I took the time to think of my words but also needed to wait until conversations between mine and AEW’s camp had come to a conclusion. Firstly, I dislike reading parts of my private conversations between myself and AEW in regards to my mental well being on the internet. These conversations were private and not meant to be shared with the public. As by now most people realize I am a very private person and do not feel the need to have stuff like this out on the internet. If you’ve been following me longer than a cup of coffee you’re aware I’ve spoken abou..
Back on the schedule. There is a lot of WWE programming in any given week. The amount of wrestling available to any fan is nothing short of astounding and it can be rather easy to overlook some of the better options available. That isn’t even including the non-wrestling content, and now we might be seeing one of the company’s better shows making a long awaited comeback. According to PWInsider.com, WWE will be filming new episodes of their Table For 3 series later this month. The series features three wrestlers with some sort of a shared theme or connection having a conversation over a meal. There have been fifty one episodes of the series to date, but the most recent was released in 2019. There is no word on when the new shows will air or who will be appearing. The show will air on Peacock and the WWE network. Opinion: This is a nice surprise as the show was rather fun to watch. It is the kind of easy, simple show that you can instantly understand while getting some entertaining mome..
It was going to get people talking. AEW has been a complete game changer in the wrestling world and that has been a good thing. The company is led by President Tony Khan, who has been a force in wrestling since he entered the industry. However, like everyone else, Khan is going to have some controversial moments. That was the case last week and now we are seeing the response. Late last week, former AEW star Big Swole spoke about some of her issues with the company on her Swole Nation podcast. Several over her comments criticized AEW’s lack of diversity in management positions and in prominent roles on television. Khan responded, listing off people of color in the company and saying that he let Swole go because he did not think her wrestling abilities were good enough. Several AEW wrestlers have since responded, with a mixture of positive and negative reactions. Here are some of the responses to Khan’s comments, including Lio Rush, who has since had a conversation with Khan: If nobody..
It would be a step. Back in 2014, WWE changed the way the wrestling world worked by launching the WWE Network. The company was suddenly opening their video vault, allowing fans to see so much of the material they have presented over the years for a cheap price. It was an amazing thing for wrestling fans, and now the company might be getting ready to look at some competition. During a recent edition of Ask Tony Live from Adfreeshows.com, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone said that he believed AEW would have its own streaming service by the end of 2022. While Schiavone acknowledged that he did not know this for a fact, he said that he believed it based on conversations he had been having with people in the company. Schiavone also said that he had heard AEW would eventually make it to HBO Max. AEW has done a lot in its brief history. It’s a topic of conversation. WWE holds a lot of events every year and tends to put them in major arenas. Occasionally they go even bigger than that though and holds them in an NFL size stadium. It can be interesting to see where WWE is going with their shows and that was the case again this week as they released their pay per view schedule for next year. That is the kind of thing that can get people talking, and that was the case in WWE this year too. According to Fightful Select, various WWE wrestlers are happy with the changes made to the pay per view schedule. This will include WrestleMania 38 being held over the counter of two nights instead of the usual one, which has been the case for the previous two years. There will also be additional pay per views on Saturday nights, as well as a United Kingdom pay per view in September. There will be some big shows on the calendar. Check out what has the wrestlers excited: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains v..
That’s one way to go. Over the last few years, the wrestling industry has been dominated by WWE and AEW, both of which have been going after all kinds of talented wrestlers. It has made for some interesting decisions when a wrestler goes to one place or another, but not we are seeing another player come into the picture, at least for one specific former WWE star. According to Fightful Select, AEW and Adam Scherr, formerly known as Braun Strowman in WWE, have had conversations about Scherr coming in, but it does not seem that they will be working together. Instead, Scherr is expected to wind up in Impact Wrestling, which has reportedly been making a play for him in recent months. There is no word on when Scherr will make his debut with Impact Wrestling, assuming he signs there. Scherr made his return to the ring this weekend, defeating EC3 at Free The Narrative II. Scherr would be a huge pickup. Check out who might be coming to Impact Wrestling: [This post contains video, click to pl..
He wants more. There are a lot of stars on the WWE roster today but very few of them are near the top of the card. It takes something special to be the top star in WWE and the company has only had a handful of them. Roman Reigns currently fills in that spot and he has been doing some rather impressive things on SmackDown. Now though, he has a bit of a request. During a new interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sports, Reigns mentioned that he would like to see more Sami Zayn on WWE television. Reigns praised Zayn, calling him someone who is talented in whatever he does. Reigns mentioned that Zayn may not look like a superstar but feels like your neighbor and is always good for a short conversation. Zayn not wrestled on WWE television in over a month, last wrestling on the July 23 SmackDown. Zayn certainly is talented. Check out what Reigns wants to see on television: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click..
Bryan Danielson’s pro wrestling future has been a hot topic of conversation over the past several weeks. Much of the speculation online centers on the possibility and some would say eventual likelihood, that he has signed a deal with All Elite Wrestling. Neither side has confirmed a signing as of yet. That’s not surprising of course, as the desire to keep things under wraps in the business is still very much in play here. Assuming Danielson is indeed coming onboard, AEW would want to surprise the fans and save his debut for just the right time. So if it does happen, who would be the most ideal choices to face him in the company? The idea of Danielson actually joining AEW was nothing more than just a dream at one time. The man formerly known as Daniel Bryan seemed to be enjoying his run in WWE and never really appeared to be searching for something else. He was part of that company’s weekly TV grind and everything seemed to be moving fairly well for him. But there would always be ru..
That’s a different gig. A lot of wrestlers come and go from WWE every year and a lot of them leave without much of an impact. You might remember a match or two here or there, but for the most part, they are just people who used to work there and don’t anymore. Very few do anything memorable, but now one of them with a bit of a reputation is trying to get back in, albeit in a different way. WWE is currently running a contest where a fan will be able to introduce a match at Summerslam. Former WWE star Ryback has posted a video to YouTube, officially entering the contest. In the video, Ryback introduces Roman Reigns vs. John Cena, the likely main event for the show, with various jokes and shots taken at both wrestlers and Reigns’ manager Paul Heyman. Ryback wrestled for WWE from 2005-2016, winning the Intercontinental Title and a variety of Slammy Awards. Since departing the company, Ryback has hosted a podcast called Conversations With The Big Guy where he has been highlight critical o..
