Not Yet: WrestleMania Title Match Delayed After Controversial Finish To #1 Contenders Match

You’re up next. A long title reign can be one of the most interesting things in all of wrestling, as it opens up the question of who might be the person to take them down. Having a huge title defense can be a lot of fun as you can feel the possibility of a title change. We almost had that again, but things have gotten a little more complicated after a controversial finish. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In: Active WWE Star Announced For Hall Of Fame Class Of 2023 This week on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus won a fatal five way match for the #1 contendership to the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania. Sheamus and McIntyre scored a double pin on Xavier Woods and LA Knight (with Karrion Kross also involved in the match) but no #1 contender was announced. The two argued in the back and later in the show, a match between the two was set for next week with the winner getting the title shot at WrestleMania. This could be big for WrestleMania. Check out who could be fighting for the t..

NXT Results – January 10, 2023 (New Year’s Evil)

NXT Date: January 10, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T., Vic Joseph It’s New Year’s Evil and this time we have the NXT Title on the line as Grayson Waller challenges Bron Breakker. Other than that, we have a twenty woman battle royal for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title. Throw in Indus Sher vs. the Creed Brothers and we should be in for a good one. Let’s get to it. We open at Chase U, with Andre Chase assigning the class to watch New Year’s Evil. Chase recaps everything and mentions Australia. A student asks Duke Hudson if he’s Australian and gets thrown out because Thea Hail doesn’t need to be near that kind of stupidity before her battle royal. Hail gets fired up and is all ready to go. Dijak vs. Tony D’Angelo Stacks is here with D’Angelo and Wes Lee is on commentary. They fight to the floor and then back inside, with D’Angelo getting knocked down outside. Back in again where a shot to Dijak lets them head back outside. This ..

Monday Night Raw Results – December 12, 2022

Monday Night Raw Date: December 12, 2022 Location: Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We are crawling towards the Royal Rumble and it seems like the build has been put on the back burner for at least a few more weeks. This time around the main focal point is finding a new #1 contender for the United States Title as Bobby Lashley faces Seth Rollins in what should be a good one. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss For the #1 contendership to Bianca Belair and the rest of Damage Ctrl is here with Bayley. Not that it matters as here is Becky Lynch to beat up Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai and chase them out of the arena with a chair, leaving it one on one. Cue Bianca Belair to watch from ringside. Bliss starts fast and knocks Bayley outside, where it’s time for a breather. Back in and Bayley gets smart by stomping on the foot, earning herself a running crossbody. Bayley manages to knock her outside again though and we take a break...

Sheamus Teases Bloodline vs. Brawling Brutes Feud

That would be a different way to go. We are just over a month away from Survivor Series and this year’s edition is going to be a little bit different. This year, the show will feature a pair of WarGames matches, marking the first time that the match has come to a main roster WWE event. The matches need lineups, and now a star is teasing some major involvement in one of the matches. Last week’s SmackDown saw Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, Solo Sikoa and Ricochet compete in a match for the #1 contendership to the Intercontinental Title. During the match, the Usos got involved, which drew out the Brawling Brutes to help Sheamus. Following the match, Sheamus sent out a tweet saying “The end of the Bloodline starts with Solo. Ireland V Islanders.” While not confirmed, this could mean the start of a feud between the two groups. The end of the Bloodline starts with Solo. Ireland V Islanders. #CelticVengeance pic.twitter.com/NI76zMZGc8 — Sheamus (@WWESheamus) October 15, 2022 Opinion: Works for me..

AEW Rampage Results – September 23, 2022 (Grand Slam)

Rampage Date: September 24, 2022 Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York City, New York Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho It’s the biggest Rampage of the year as we are in New York City for a stacked two house show. The card is headlined by a battle royal (shocking I know) for the #1 contendership as we have a title shot to get through before Full Gear. Other than that, there are a bunch of grudge matches so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. House Of Black vs. Sting/Darby Allin No DQ and Sting/Allin pop up behind the House (Brody King/Buddy Matthews with Julia Hart) during their entrances to start the fight on the stage. The bell rings and they fight to the ring with the House taking over without much trouble. Sting gets surrounded but manages to fight them both off, only to be driven hard into the corner. A super Code Red gives Allin two on King but a suicide dive is cut off by a raised knee. Sting goes up but gets shoved through a table, with his h..

NXT Results – July 19, 2022

NXT Date: July 19, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph The focus is on the women again this week as we have a battle royal for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title. Other than that, we are probably going to be getting a lot more attention on Cora Jade betraying Roxanne Perez last week. And maybe Bron Breakker can do something. Let’s get to it. We open with a long recap of last week, with Cora Jade turning on Roxanne Perez and costing her the Women’s Title. Cameron Grimes vs. JD McDonagh Grimes shoulders him down but McDonagh kicks at the knee. That doesn’t bother Grimes, who kicks him in the chest and hits a backdrop. A whip into the corner has McDonagh on the apron and a big boot puts him on the floor. Back in and Grimes hits a high crossbody to rock McDonagh again, but here is Joe Gacy on the platform for a distraction as we take a break. Back with Gacy still looking down and McDonagh blocking a suplex from the apr..

AEW Rampage Results – July 1, 2022

Rampage Date: July 1, 2022 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone We are done with Forbidden Door and that means it is time to start moving forward. In this case that means we need a new challenger for Jon Moxley’s newly won Interim World Title. We can find that out tonight in what sounds like a Royal Rumble for the #1 contendership. That should be enough to carry the show so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Royal Rampage So this is a two ring battle royal, but not in the traditional sense. Instead, there are two rings with a separate battle royal going on in each. Once there is a single person left in each, they will have a two man battle royal for the shot. It is also Royal Rumble style entrances and it’s Hangman Page/Powerhouse Hobbs in blue and Darby Allin/Tony Nese in red to get things going. Nese kicks Allin down and poses as Hobbs powers Page around. Page low bridges Hobbs to the apron as Ricky Starks is in the r..

SmackDown Results – January 14, 2022

Smackdown Date: January 14, 2022 Location: CHI Health Center, Omaha, Nebraska Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee We are just over two weeks away from the Royal Rumble and the big match on this side is Roman Reigns defending the Universal Title against Raw’s Seth Rollins. That is likely going to mean Brock Lesnar will be getting involved and I’m curious to see where that is going to go. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar arguing over Paul Heyman, leading to Reigns dropping Lesnar with a Superman Punch. Then Seth Rollins was announced as the opponent in a bit of a weird pick. Here are the Usos for a chat. They talk about how the only team to ever give them a real fight is the New Day, but they beat them again last week. Instead of helping Roman Reigns against Seth Rollins, we need to have a four way to consider the #1 contendership. Jimmy even handles the entrances, with a special/not so serious voice. Los Lotharios vs. Viking Raiders vs. Cesar..

NXT UK Results – January 13, 2022

NXT UK Date: January 13, 2022 Location: BT Studios, London, England Commentators: Andy Shepherd, Nigel McGuinness It’s the end of an era as we are going to see Walter’s final match around here. Walter is one of the people who has made this show feel special every time he appears and while it will be great to see him moving up the ladder, he is going to be missed around here. Hopefully there is a nice tribute to go with the match, so let’s get to it. We open with a video looking back at Walter’s time in NXT UK. Opening sequence. Jack Starz/Dave Mastiff vs. Die Familia Charlie Dempsey is here with Die Familia and the winners face Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter for the #1 contendership. Raja muscles Starz up to start and throws him away without much effort. They fight over a lockup but Raja throws him off a front facelock. Starz can’t take him down by the leg but he can take him down with an armbar. A headlock gives Starz two and some dropkicks send Raja into the corner. That’s enoug..

REVIEW: AEW Double Or Nothing 2020: Get Your Bets In

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Double Or Nothing Date: May 23, 2020 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur It’s back to the pay per view calendar, which isn’t somewhere AEW goes all that often. It’s a triple main event with the Stadium Stampede, Jon Moxley defending the World Title against Brodie Lee and Cody vs. Lance Archer for the inaugural TNT Title. They’ve done well on pay per view before so let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Best Friends vs. Private Party For the #1 contendership. Chuck..

Impact Wrestling Results – July 29, 2021

Impact Wrestling Date: July 29, 2021 Location: Skyway Studios, Nashville, Tennessee Commentators: Matt Striker, D’Lo Brown We’re back with more Bullet Club Civil War this week as Jay White’s Japanese contingent doesn’t think much of the Elite. That contingent might have gained someone new in Chris Bey this week, which could make for something interesting going forward. White felt like a star last week and hopefully he can keep that up this time. Let’s get to it. The opening recap looks at Jay White showing up and going after the Elite, with Chris Bey saving him to end the show. Scott D’Amore has something big planned for tonight but says everyone is asking him for something. Tommy Dreamer comes up to ask about the #1 contendership but D’Amore walks away on the phone. Good Brothers vs. Chris Bey/Jay White Non-title. White and Anderson start things off with the feeling out process until White chops away in the corner. Bey comes in for the kicks to the ribs into a nice dropkick. Ander..

NXT Wrestler Missing Time Due To Knee Injury

Another reason. One of the bigger stories of the week has been the Coronavirus outbreak in NXT which has seemingly left a lot of wrestlers out of action. That is the kind of thing you can only plan for to a certain extent and it has been causing problems for NXT. What matters most is keeping the wrestlers healthy, but another wrestler is missing some time for another reason. This week’s NXT featured a rather interesting match with Danny Burch/Roderick Strong teaming up to face Fabian Aichner/Raul Mendoza. The four of them are all parts of different tag teams and the winners’ teams would later face off for the #1 contendership to the Tag Team Titles. It would seem that the regular partners’ absences may have been due to the Coronavirus but that is not the case at least for one name. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Bobby Fish, Strong’s regular partner in the Undisputed Era, missed the show because of a knee injury suffered when training Brazilian ju-jitsu and kickboxing..

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results – September 11, 2020

Smackdown Date: September 11, 2020 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves Things took a surprising turn last week as Jey Uso of all people became the new #1 contender to the Smackdown World Title. That could set up quite the one sided title defense for Roman Reigns but you never know. As for tonight, Jeff Hardy defends the Intercontinental Title against AJ Styles. Let’s get to it. We open with a Never Forget graphic. We get a long recap of Reigns’ comments last week, plus Uso becoming #1 contender. Here are Reigns and Heyman for a chat. Heyman talks about letting the cat out of the bag two weeks ago. Then at Payback, they took the Universal title. That took us to last week when Jey Uso captured the #1 contendership in the biggest win of his career. Heyman invites Uso to the ring and we see some photos of the Usos and reigns growing up together. Uso thanks Heyman for getting him a spot last week but Heyman says it was Reigns’ idea, with Hey..

NXT Results – April 8, 2020

NXT Date: April 8, 2020 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Commentator: Mauro Ranallo We’re in the marathon taping session now and this time around we have a big double main event. This week’s show will feature the six woman ladder match to crown a new #1 contender, but the real big match is the final showdown between Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano in a battle years in the making. Let’s get to it. The opening video is all about Gargano vs. Ciampa. Tegan Nox vs. Dakota Kai vs. Io Shirai vs. Chelsea Green vs. Mia Yim vs. Candice LeRae Ladder match for the #1 contendership and Robert Stone and Raquel Gonzalez are here too. It’s a brawl to start with Kai being left alone in the ring. Gonzalez throws in a ladder but a bunch of the women take her out and triple team Kai in the corner. Green gets caught on the apron for a series of forearms to knock her down as well. It’s time for the first ladder as Stone tries to set up a table on the floor. LeRae and Shirai fight o..

Monday Night Raw Live Coverage And Results – April 22, 2019

Monday Night Raw Date: April 22, 2019 Location: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, Iowa Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young It’s kind of a new world around here as we have the first show with all the new talent brought over in the Superstar Shakeup. That could be a good or a bad thing, but given how many changes they’ve managed to make since the Shakeup took place, your guess is as good as mine about what they’re doing here. Let’s get to it. Tonight it’s a pair of triple threat matches with the winners facing off later in the night for the #1 contendership to the Universal Title. Here’s HHH to open things up but before he can say anything, Universal Champion Seth Rollins (the hometown boy) joins him. We get a quick hug before Rollins gets to soak in the cheers. Rollins talks about everything he’s been through in recent weeks, including stomping Brock Lesnar’s bucket head three times at Wrestlemania. HHH seems impressed but we pause for a BURN IT DOWN chant. The landsc..

Hell In A Cell Kickoff Show Match Announced

Switch em up. With Hell In A Cell coming up this Sunday night, the card is entirely set up by now. We know all eight matches announced so far (though there’s always the chance that more could be added), including a variety of title matches. Obviously these are more important than most, but WWE felt that one of them wasn’t quite important enough to make the regular show. As announced on WWE.com, the SmackDown Tag Team Title match will now serve as the Kickoff Show match as the New Day will defend their titles against Rusev Day. Rusev Day earned their shot by defeating the Bar to win a short tournament for the #1 contendership. New Day has held the titles since last month, when they defeated the Bludgeon Brothers to win the titles on SmackDown Live. A reminder of how we got here: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Works for me and it’s not like this match is anything serious in the first place. Rusev Day has turned into a popular act but we’re about five months remov..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – July 18, 2018

NXT Date: July 18, 2018 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Mauro Ranallo, Percy Watson Tonight we get to see one of NXT’s best features in action. The main event of this week’s show is a triple threat match for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title. Around here, that’s something that can headline a show without blinking an eye. On any other show, such a thing would be insane. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dakota Kai vs. Lacey Evans Evans mocks Kai’s kicking to start so Kai rolls her up and rides her on the mat, freaking the heck out of Evans in the process. A shot to the ribs cuts Kai off though and Evans puts her in the Tree of Woe. That means more shots to the ribs, even after Evans uses the strings from Kai’s boot to tie her in the corner. Kai falls out of the corner so Evans kicks and stomps away, with Kai selling the heck out of it. We hit a double arm crank with a knee in Kai’s back until Evans misses a moonsault. Rap..
