That would have been different. Three years ago, the Coronavirus pandemic turned the world upside down and things have only recently returned to mostly normal. There were several changes made to almost everything around the world, including WWE. The company kept going during the pandemic, but it turns out that one show almost did not get to wrap up. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: WWE Star Shows Off Remarkable Physical Transformation The 2020 Money In The Bank event featured a unique version of the show’s namesake match, with both the men and women fighting at the same time at WWE’s corporate headquarters. The match concluded with a ring on the room and the briefcases hanging above. During a recent live signing with East Coast Autograph Auctions, former WWE star Nia Jax revealed that the Governor of Connecticut almost shut the match down, with police coming to the building. Despite that, WWE was able to finish filming and shoot the match as planned. It was a unique match. Check out how..
He’s in. The broadcast team is one of the most important parts of any wrestling company. The people calling the show are tasked with guiding the fans on the path that the company wants them to take, which can be rather complicated at times. WWE has quite the cast of commentators but every now and then they shake it up a bit. That is the situation again as a new voice is around. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s Back: Former Champion Makes Surprise Return On SmackDown According to Fightful Select, WWE has hired Blake Chadwick to become part of its commentary team. Chadwick will join the NXT LVL Up broadcast team, where he will be paired with Byron Saxton under the name Blake Howard. Chadwick has done commentary on the wrestling independent scene, including with WrestleCade, Camp Leapfrog, VCW and the West Coast Wrestling Connection. He sounds different. That’s a big one. The WWE roller coaster is fully underway as we have one change after another almost daily at this point. The biggest thus far this week has been Vince McMahon being reelected as Chairman of the Board of WWE and his daughter Stephanie resigning from her seat. While Vince will get more of the attention, Stephanie’s resignation has several details of its own. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Up For Grabs: Former IWGP World Champion Jay White Free Agent Soon, WWE And AEW Interested Fightful Select has more on Stephanie leaving WWE. Stephanie leaving is believed to be a continuation of the leave of absence she was taking last year, though there is no word on when or if she will be returning to the company. Along with former co-WWE CEO Nick Khan, Stephanie is said to be well liked backstage, with wrestlers feeling uncertainty over the situation, including when it comes to Stephanie and Khan. Stephanie’s husband Triple H is still officially Chief Content Officer. Stephanie has play..
It’s something. One of the more interesting wrestling stories of the year has been the roller coaster that is Ring Of Honor. After being shut down for several months to start the year, the promotion was purchased by AEW owner Tony Khan and somewhat relaunched on AEW television. However, Ring Of Honor did not have any kind of distribution of its own. Now things have changed in a big way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: To The Other Side: Former NXT Champion Makes Surprise AEW Rampage Appearance During this weekend’s post Final Battle media scrum, Khan announced that Ring Of Honor will have its weekly television show on the HonorClub streaming service, which relaunched earlier this week. The service costs $9.99 a month and includes all of the Ring Of Honor video library. There is no specific date on when the show will launch, but Khan said an announcement was coming after the Los Angeles and Seattle shows. Khan also said that there will be less of a focus on Ring Of Honor on AEW programming. T..
NXT LVL Up Date: September 23, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Nigel McGuinness, Matt Camp The low level roller coaster continues with this show as I’m not sure what to expect. There have been some minor stories to set up some matches, plus a few appearances from bigger names. Then again, given this show’s track record, all of that will be dropped as soon as possible. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dante Chen vs. Bryson Montana Montana runs him over to start so Chen grabs a headlock. Some takeovers give Chen some momentum and there’s a dropkick to stagger Montana. That’s about it for the offense though as Montana runs him over and hammers away on the mat. A Michinoku Driver gives Montana two and we hit the bearhug. Chen fights out and hits a clothesline, followed by a boot to the face. The double chop finishes Montana at 5:42. Result: Dante Chen b. Bryson Montana – Double chop (5:42) Myles Borne is ready for Andre Chase. Indi..
Welcome back. NXT has been on one of the biggest rollercoasters in recent wrestling history and those changes continue to change. Several names have come and gone, with several of them making their NXT debuts. The roster looks nothing like it did back in its glory days, but there are still a few familiar names here and there. Now another one has made a surprise return to the show. The main event of this week’s edition of NXT featured Dolph Ziggler vs. Tommaso Ciampa in a match to crown the new #1 contender to the NXT Title. Late in the match, Ziggler was down with the referee checking on him, allowing a cameraman to hit Ciampa with his camera. After the match, the cameraman revealed himself as Ziggler’s partner and former NXT Champion Robert Roode. Ziggler and Roode then attacked Ciampa, leading to NXT Champion Bron Breakker making the save. A tag team match was then made for next week’s show. It was a great match. Check out how the main event went down: [This post contains video, c..
Rampage Date: December 31, 2021 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Ricky Starks It’s the very last show of the year for any company, as this one is going all the way to an hour before the New Year on the east coast. There is a fairly big card tonight with an anything goes women’s tag and Cody Rhodes defending the TNT Title. That doesn’t sound too bad so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Anthony Bowens vs. Darby Allin Max Caster’s rap is about the booster shot and putting people away like Ghislaine Maxwell. Allin starts fast with an early rollup for two, sending Bowens bailing to the floor in a hurry. Back in and Allin ducks a clothesline and dropkicks Bowens right back to the floor. We take a break and come back with Bowens catching a splash in the corner but Allin grabs some rollups for two each anyway. Allin heads up for the Coffin Drop but gets knocked down, with his arm landing pretty hard. A twisting DDT out of the corner gives Bowens..
That’s some fast planning. WWE holds a lot of events over the years and most of them are pretty much set in stone for months in advance. That should be enough to give the company time to set everything up with a long time to spare, but there are times when it seems WWE is making this stuff up on the fly. It seems to have been the case again earlier this year. Nikki Ash spoke to Fightful Select and talked about her Money in the Bank and Raw Women’s Title wins earlier this year. Ash revealed that she was told the day of Money in the Bank that she would be winning the show’s namesake match. Ash won the title the next night on Monday Night Raw but was not told about the win the day of Money in the Bank. Instead, she was only told the following day at Monday Night Raw. There is no word on how long in advance WWE had made these plans. Ash certainly had a roller coaster of a few days. Check out how everything went and what it led to: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post c..
She would if she could. Wrestling is a rather difficult sport for everyone involved and that has always been the case. No matter how much training or experience someone has, a wrestler has the chance of getting banged up or hurt. Some of those injuries can wreck a wrestler’s career for good and end any chances of them wrestling again. That is the case with a former star. Former WWE star Christy Hemme recently took part in a virtual autograph signing for East Coast Autograph Auctions where she confirmed that she was unable to wrestle another match. Hemme said that she would wrestle again if not for her neck being damaged. The neck injury forced her to retire from the ring, with her most recent match taking place on November 14, 2011. Hemme wrestled for both WWE and Impact Wrestling while also serving other roles, including ring announcer and backstage interviewer. Hemme did a lot over the years. Check out some of her career: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post cont..
It happens to everyone. While it might not seem like it at times, at some point, every wrestler is going to hang it up eventually. One day, every wrestler is going to step out of the ring for the last time, though some have a far longer career than others. That can make for some emotional roller coasters and we got another one of those this week with quite the head fake. The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Malakai Black defeat Cody Rhodes in less than five minutes. After the match was over, Rhodes spoke about his career and suggested that it might be time for someone new to step in. He took his boot off, a sigh of retiring from wrestling, and was attacked by Black to end the show. There is no word on whether Rhodes is planning on retiring or if this is just an angle. Rhodes is expected to go off to film the Go Big Show for TBS in the coming weeks. Rhodes has had a heck of a time in AEW. Check out what he has done there: [This post contains video, click to play]..
He was part of the family. There have been a lot of people to work for WWE over the years and some were more prominent than others. At one point or another, almost everyone has left WWE, though you never know how positive the terms might be. No matter what happens though, WWE is often willing to put past differences aside in a horrible situation, and that might be what they are doing again. On Sunday, horrible news came out of California involving former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard. While at the beach with his family, Gaspard’s son got caught in a series of waves. Gaspard went out to help him but had to be rescued himself. Once emergency workers reached him, Gaspard told the first responders to help his son instead. Gaspard’s son was rescued, but Gaspard himself was pulled under a wave and has yet to be found. The Coast Guard has suspended their search but the Los Angeles Police Department is still searching. WWE has since commented on the situation, with both the company and Vince McM..
