Let’s face it—WWE is basically Hollywood with suplexes. The mic skills, the over-the-top characters, the flashy entrances... it’s showbiz in spandex. So, it’s n...
That’s worth celebrating. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and they portray several different characters. Watching any given WWE show offers a big mixture of different looks, styles and personae, but it can be fascinating to see them mix together. One thing they all have in common is that they do other things once the cameras stop rolling, which was the case in a big way recently. That would be a different way to go. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestling story, as wrestlers have various personality types and characters. It can be interesting to see what happens when you put them in different scenarios, especially if it is something personal. Now we might be seeing some very different scenarios from people related to the wrestling industry. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Clean Slate: Backstage Meeting Reportedly Held Over AEW Star’s Past Actions During a recent edition of his To Be The Man podcast, Ric Flair revealed that FOX and Netflix are considering a series built around wrestling housewives, featuring his wife Wendy, Kim Orton, Giovanna Angle and Catalina Hager. There is no word on how far along the talks are, which other wrestling wives might be a part of the cast or where the show might air if it gets picked up. There have been a lot of wrestling marriages over the years. Check out how some of them got started (or almost got started): [This post c..
It’s a special story. Wrestlers are larger than life characters and that is what makes fans want to see them every week. You can see them in good and bad moments, but at the end of the day, the stories are made up. Unfortunately there are real life problems that they have to face as well, and now we are going to get to hear a story about one wrestler who had to deal with something very serious. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Two WWE Stars Appear In Separate Super Bowl Commercials Former WWE star Ricardo Rodriguez has announced that he has been filming a documentary about his recovery from alcoholism. Rodriguez announced that he would be entering rehab in May 2020 and in February, announced that he was ten months sober. They worked well the first time. WWE has been around for a very long time and has a deep history. The company has done a lot of things over the years, with some of them being rather memorable. Those moments are often things that only happened once due to one reason or another, but now WWE might be bringing back some of the most memorable vignettes they have ever done. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Star Teases Major Turn After SmackDown Goes Off The Air Back in 2005, WrestleMania 21 was held in Los Angeles, California, with a theme of WrestleMania Goes Hollywood. To help build the show, WWE released several parody movie trailers, featuring stars portraying famous movie characters. According to WrestleVotes, WWE is planning to create more of the parody trailers for this year’s show. Miz, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, the Brawling Brutes and the Street Profits are expected to be involved. WrestleMania 39 takes place on April 1 and 2. Just to make it even more confusing. There are certain characters and stories in wrestling that can be hard to figure out. Some of them do or say things that leave fans with more questions than answers and that can make for some interesting moments. WWE certainly has its share of them and now one of the most confusing has taken another turn, at least during a recent live event. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Welcome Home: Another Monday Night Raw Star Set For NXT Return Over the last several weeks, Bray Wyatt has been forced to deal with a mysterious man named Uncle Howdy. This has involved Howdy following Wyatt, as well as attacking him once. Last week on SmackDown though, the two seemed to form an alliance. This was followed by Wyatt wearing the Howdy mask to the ring during a recent WWE live event in Columbus, Ohio. Wyatt had once declared that he WAS Howdy, though the two have been seen together since. Wyatt entered in the Howdy mask tonight. Is he Howdy? #WWEColumbus pic.twitter.com/vW..
So he’s gone? Gimmicks and characters are difficult things to figure out in wrestling as wrestlers have to find the right one for them. There are all kinds of different ways to present a star and balancing things out is quite the task. Sometimes a wrestler is able to put together something completely unique but now, one of those characters seems to be done completely. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s There: John Cena Reportedly Set For Something At WWE Royal Rumble Bray Wyatt was interviewed by Ryan Satin for the Royal Rumble, with the full interview being released on Saturday, January 28. WWE has released a clip of Wyatt talking about the Fiend, with Wyatt saying that “The Fiend died that day in Tampa, Florida, at WrestleMania, to me.” Wyatt went on to say that the Fiend was part of what made him a human being, but now it “can’t never be again”. The Fiend has not appeared since Wyatt returned to WWE last year. The Fiend was a force. Check out the clip, plus the Fiend in action: [This p..
The trip continues. Back at Extreme Rules 2022, Bray Wyatt made his return to WWE, revealing himself to be the White Rabbit after weeks of speculation. Once Wyatt was back though, the question became what is he supposed to do now. That is the tricky part, as Wyatt is one of the most complicated stars in all of WWE. A few months have passed and we might have a better idea, but now things have taken another twist. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Glow On? Wyatt will wrestle his first televised match since his return at the Royal Rumble when he faces LA Knight in a Pitch Black match. It was always a weird trip. Check out the Fun House..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Attribute Of The Strong Date: June 29, 2019 Location: Bossanova Ballroom, Portland, Oregon Commentator: Joe Dumbrowski It’s another show from Independentwrestling.TV as I get everything I can out of a free trial. This is from Prestige Wrestling, a promotion out of the northwest with some names I’ve actually heard of for a change. I’m not sure what to expect from this but that can make it more fun at times. Let’s get to it. As usual, I have no idea what is going on here with characters or storylines s..
The Boss is heading overseas. According to a report from PWInsider, Sasha Banks is expected to appear at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event next month. It is unknown in what capacity she will be used, if at all, during the show. Banks has not wrestled since she and Naomi walked out on WWE before the May 16 episode of Raw. Both women were upset about the creative direction of their characters, and were subsequently stripped of the Women’s Tag Team Championships. From the report: Back in October, Varnado teased the idea of wrestling former WWE star KAIRI in STARDOM, which shares the same corporate owner as NJPW and recently did a crossover event with NJPW. Banks has been training at a number of places in recent months in the United States and Mexico. Banks recently made a number of trademark filings related to her given name as well as the terms Mercedes Mone’, Mone’ Talks, Bank Mone’, and Statement Maker under company name Soulnado, obviously preparing for her next m..
That’s a different kind of story. Wrestlers are larger than life characters who get in the ring and showcase their talents on rather grand stages. It can be a lot of fun to see what a wrestler can do when they are given the chance, but there also comes a point where they leave the ring and their real lives continue. Now one wrestling legend has some interesting stories about things that might have happened to him outside the ring. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Just Keep Waiting: Missing AEW Star Reportedly Medically Cleared For “Quite Some Time” Chris Jericho appeared on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff show and spoke about possible incidents with time displacement and spirits. Jericho said that he believes he has dealt with time displacement, not remembering a fifteen hour period. Jericho insists that he was not drinking or doing drugs, but that he has a big chunk of time missing. While he did not say it was what happened, Jericho said that it like when you get abducted. In addition, Jericho to..
That’s a lot more serious. Wrestlers are larger than life characters but they are very real life people when the camera is turned off. You are going to hear about wrestlers doing run of the mill things, which is not exactly something that draws the most interest. Every now and then though, you hear about something that is a lot more serious, which is the case in another situation. According to the Detroit News, former WWE developmental wrestler Kyle Garrett Rasmussen (known as Conrad Tanner in FCW) was arrested on charges of attempting to strangle a man last month. Rasmussen allegedly attempted to choke the driver of a moving car but the driver was able to stop the car and escape. Rasmussen’s girlfriend fled as well but was struck by another car and killed. As a result, Rasmussen is facing a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Rasmussen wrestled for WWE from 2009-2010, when he was released. Opinion: That’s about as serious as it gets and that’s nev..
A different kind of show. Wrestlers are larger than life characters and you never know what you are going to see when they get in the ring. Their personalities are given the chance to shine through and it makes for some special moments when they get to do something that you would not see in day to day life. Now you might get to see something that goes in a different, yet still interesting direction. During WWE’s Q3 earnings call this week, WWE co-CEO Nick Khan announced that an upcoming series revolving around Montez Ford and Bianca Belair is set to air on Hulu. The series will run for eight episodes but no release date was announced. Ford and Belair are married and both wrestle on Monday Night Raw. In a related note, it was also announced that WWE and Hulu have extended their broadcasting rights deal for Monday Night Raw to last through the rest of their current broadcasting deal. There was no word on any extension for any other other WWE show on Hulu. Opinion: A show about Belair a..
It’s a seasonal thing. We are in the Halloween season and that means you will be seeing a lot of spooky forms of entertainment. This is certainly the case with wrestling, which has a history of going a little far with its scarier stuff. WWE is no exception, as it has had several more out there characters over the years. Now the company is looking back at some of their better moments. WWE has released a top ten video looking at the Ten Scariest WWE Moments. The list goes back over thirty years and includes all kinds of scares, most of which took place in segments rather than in matches. Some of the names included are Edge, Bray Wyatt, Papa Shango and the Undertaker, though there are no entries from other promotions outside of WWE on the list. There is a lot here. Check out what made the list: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing that fits the season, but there are a few odd entries on the list. Several of the choices are modern options and sh..
Well that’s….unique. Wrestlers are best known for what they do in the ring but there is a completely different side to what they do. While the in-ring work is important, the ability to talk people into watching the show might be the most important thing of all. As a result, wrestlers are going to do a lot of talking a lot of the time and now a prominent star said something rather eye catching. AEW TNT Champion Wardlow appeared on Busted Open Radio this week and discussed how wrestlers are similar to horror movie and television series characters, in that they have characters, gimmicks and a theme song. In particular, Wardlow spoke about the Joe Goldberg character from the “You” TV series, saying he did not know why you would chain people up in your basement. Wardlow then said “I have girls chained up in my bedroom, but no one in my basement”. Wardlow successfully defended the TNT Title against Matt Taven this week on AEW Rampage. Opinion: Well that’s certainly a statement that is goin..
The tradition continues. Wrestlers are a lot of things but at the end of the day they are performers. They spend a long time getting to the point where they can do what they do at such a high level, including mastering their characters. Figuring them out can be rather difficult, but it can be quite the compliment when someone else figures them out almost as well. Over the last few years, Kayla Braxton has dressed as Paul Heyman and Sami Zayn for Halloween. WWE’s The Bump Instagram page has posted a video of Braxton and an unidentified person dressed as the Usos for this year’s Halloween. The two have Uso hats, painted on bears and a pair of title belts each. There is no word on if this will be mentioned on WWE TV. This is pretty impressive. Check out Braxton as an Uso: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is a case of imitation being the sincerest form of flattery as Braxton has clearly studied the Usos enough to make something like this work. The Halloween costu..
She has a point. There is a lot that goes into being a professional wrestler and some of the more difficult aspects are often taken for granted. Unfortunately sometimes these aspects can be turned into negative situations that see the wrestlers treated far worse than they deserve. That has happened again and this time a WWE star is not taking any more of what she is hearing. Monday Night Raw’s Alexa Bliss recently spoke with Metro about the issues of dealing with negative fan reactions online. Bliss talked about the comments that she and fellow wrestlers receive after going out and trying to do their jobs while nowhere near 100%. In addition, Bliss said that taking shots at the wrestlers themselves rather than their characters was over the line. Here are some of Bliss’ comments: On Fans Trolling Wrestlers “I feel like a lot of people don’t really understand – nine times out of 10 when you see us performing, we are going on no sleep, we are going on beat up bodies because we do trave..
Welcome back. There have been a lot of changes taking place in WWE in recent months and several of them have involved the wrestlers themselves. This has included wrestlers reverting to characters and personae they have used before, often in NXT. These changes have opened several new doors and now we saw another one at the end of Monday Night Raw, with quite the change. The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Bayley face Bianca Belair in a non-title match. Near the end of the match, an unidentified woman dove onto the rest of Bayley’s Damage Ctrl teammates, taking down the referee at the same time. The woman was then seen to be Nikki Cross, formerly Nikki Ash and no longer wearing her mask. Cross then DDTed Belair to give Bayley the win. Following the match, Ash attacked Bayley as well. Opinion: This is one of those changes that makes all the sense in the world and leaves you wondering what took WWE so long to make the move. Ash wasn’t working so switching back to Cross mak..
Former WWE superstar CJ Perry, known as Lana in WWE, was recently interviewed by In The Kliq Podcast to promote her upcoming role on VH1’s “The Surreal Life.” She discussed a number of topics, including a return to professional wrestling. Below are some highlights from the interview: Lana On returning to professional wrestling: “I’m open to everything in life. If I put my dreams in a box, I wouldn’t be where I am today. So, I mean, Triple H, he’s a genius. Stephanie’s a genius. I got hired by Triple H. He paired me with Miro and helped really cultivate that, in 2014, that story and that gimmick and those characters. He really helped me develop the Ravishing Russian, so I think he has an incredible creative mind. I think he is an incredible storyteller and entertaining. If the story is right, if it makes sense, I’m always open to go back to WWE and tell compelling stories and same with AEW. I’m totally open to that too. I love working with my husband and creating and telling stories...
