Jay Briscoe: A Celebration Of Life Date: January 26, 2023 Location: Save Mart Center, Fresno, California Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Carpice Coleman As you might have guessed, this is a special show honoring the life of Jay Briscoe, who passed away last week. The show was filmed after last week’s AEW taping and features special matches, plus presumably tributes and maybe classic matches from Briscoe’s career. That should be more than enough so let’s get to it. We get the tribute video from this week’s Dynamite. Ring Of Honor Pure Rules Title: Hagane Shinno vs. Wheeler Yuta Yuta is defending under Pure Rules and Shinno is from Big Japan. They go with the grappling to start with Yuta working on a head/wristlock. Shinno shrugs that off and strikes away but gets caught with an Angle Slam for two. Welcome back? There are so many talented wrestlers on the WWE roster that it can be difficult to find something for everyone to do. You can see long stretches of time without certain wrestlers appearing, which can make those appearances that much more special. We saw such an appearance this week, as a WWE star made his first appearance on television in several months. Steveson accompanied Angle to the ring to throw milk at Alpha Academy to end the show. Earlier in the night, Stevenson also teased a future match with Braun Strowman, though he did not get physical. WATCH: D-Generation X Celebration Continues After Monday Night Raw
It was a special moment. There have been a lot of great factions throughout the history of WWE and some of them are still remembered very fondly today. You can often remember several moments from those groups and it is fun to have them brought up again every now and then. That was the situation this week and it turns out that the celebration was not over when the cameras went off. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured the 25th anniversary of the debut of D-Generation X, including several members of the team returning for a special appearance. The group closed out the event with an in-ring appearance. I would say he has earned it. WWE has been around for a very long time now and there have been some very talented stars to come through that curtain. Some of them are far more memorable than others, but there are some legends who have stood the test of time. Those are the names that WWE likes to celebrate and that is what they are going to be doing in the near future. WWE has announced that they will be celebrating Kane’s 25th anniversary in the company. Kane debuted on October 5, 1997 at Bad Blood during the Hell In A Cell match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. WWE will be celebrating the milestone with special editions of Top 10 and WWE Playlist, looking at some of the best moments of Kane’s career. Huge Reunion Set For October 10 Monday Night Raw
It’s a homecoming. Stables have long since been a major concept in WWE and it makes a lot of sense. Putting a group of wrestlers together allows them to fill in more television time while also getting more people on the show. That is a tricky thing to do and a stable can make it that much easier. Now WWE is bringing back one of the biggest stables ever for a special reunion. As announced by the Barclays Center Twitter, D-Generation X will be reuniting to celebrate twenty five years of the team on the October 10 Monday Night Raw. The members who will be appearing are not specified but Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Road Dogg and X-Pac appear in the clip. There is no word on what the team will be doing during their reunion. Injury Update On AEW’s Santana (And It Could Be Pretty Bad)
That’s one of the worse ones. Injuries can happen at any time in wrestling and you never know when you are going to see something take place. It can happen from anywhere, with something as simple as a basic move going the wrong way. Unfortunately that seems to be the case again, and now the early prognosis of how bad things are is about as awful as it could be. This week’s AEW Dynamite featured the second Blood & Guts match, with Santana seeming to suffer some sort of leg injury. Santana was removed from the match and did not return, including not being present for the post match celebration. According to Wrestling Observer Live, the early word is that Santana might have suffered multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL and MCL, though this has yet to be confirmed. Opinion: I’d like to say that this is a surprise but that looked like the kind of knee injury that could wipe someone out for a long time. WATCH: WWE Stars Go Dancing In Saudi Arabia
When in Jeddah. Over the last few years, WWE has maintained a business relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. WWE has presented major events in the country, which earns them several million dollars per show. This has led to a controversial reception, as the country has a terrible human rights record. WWE continues to run events in the country though, which includes some interesting side moments. WWE will be holding the Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia this coming weekend and the roster has already arrived in the country. There It Goes Again: Title Change Takes Place On Monday Night Raw
History has been made! Titles are the main focal point of almost any wrestling company as they are such an easy concept to present. Wrestlers are going to go after championships for the sake of either money, pride or power, making them the most valuable prize in the promotion. That makes title changes mean so much, which was the case again this week when some gold changed hands. This week’s Monday Night Raw saw Alpha Academy defeating RKBro to win the Raw Tag Team Titles. The win came after Alpha Academy defeated RKBro in a non-title match last week to earn the title match. Alpha Academy’s win gives Otis his first title in WWE, while Chad Gable is now a three time Tag Team Champion on the main roster. The loss ends RKBro’s reign after 142 days, having won the titles at Summerslam. It was a big night. WATCH: Special Family Reunion And Celebration After NXT
It’s a family thing. There are certain wrestling families that have been around for a very long time and whose names are going to be immediately known. Some of these families go on for more than one generation as some of the wrestlers’ children get into the business as well. That was the case again recently, and now one of the new generation has an accomplishment to share with the family. The main event of this week’s NXT New Year’s Evil saw Bron Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa to win the NXT Title. WWE has posted a video from after the show went off the air, featuring Breakker celebrating with his father, Rick Steiner. The video’s caption identifies Steiner by name, though Breakker has never been directly identified as part of the Steiner family on NXT TV. Ciampa also shook Steiner’s hand as he left the arena. WWE’s Top Ten Moments Of 2021 Date: December 31, 2021 Hosts: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Becky Lynch It’s not exactly Smackdown but at least it’s a special show. On rare occasions, you find a pair of wrestlers who can do some absolutely incredible things together. AEW Has A New Top Villain After Dynamite Turn
Change of plans. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestler, but at times it is clear that something needs to be changed. That can be done in a variety of ways, but one of the easiest is by turning them either good or bad. These changes can be out of nowhere or over time, and both kinds can be very effective. We saw one of the former this week and it worked pretty well. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite opened with Hangman Page’s celebration for winning the AEW World Title. Page was eventually interrupted by new #1 contender Bryan Danielson, who was not pleased that Page defeated Kenny Omega. Danielson went on to insult both Page and the crowd, turning into a villain for the first time in his AEW tenure. There is no word on when Danielson vs. Page will take place. Dynamite Date: November 17, 2021 Location: Chartway Arena, Norfolk, Virginia Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross We’re done with Full Gear and Hangman Page is FINALLY the AEW World Champion.
