That would have been different. Three years ago, the Coronavirus pandemic turned the world upside down and things have only recently returned to mostly normal. There soon. There are several ways to present a wrestler and various elements have to be put together properly to make it work. One of the most important is the debut as it offers fans their first look at someone new. That can be done in a variety of ways, including building up anticipation for a wrestler’s debut. WWE has been doing that lately and now we have an idea of when someone might be showing up. Impact Wrestling Date: March 2, 2023 Location: Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are done with No Surrender and that means we are at least one step closer to Rebellion in April. Josh Alexander is still the World Champion after retaining over Rich Swann, but now Steve Maclin is waiting on the champ. That should make for a good buildup and they have time to make it work. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of No Surrender. Here is the Bullet Club for a chat to start. Chris Bey is rather happy about what he and Ace Austin have been doing lately, including beating the Motor City Machine Guns (in a six man tag) at No Surrender. Bey talks about helping set up the ring in this building before making his Impact Wrestling debut here as well. It turns out that Austin debuted here too but he would rather talk about beating Chris Sabin. After revealing Austin’s “I BEAT CHRIS SABIN”, we get a quick audience poll over who the be..
Monday Night Raw Date: January 30, 2023 Location: BOK Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma Commentators: Corey Graves, Kevin Patrick It’s the first show after the Royal Rumble and that means we are going to be seeing a lot of build towards Wrestlemania. Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley are the Royal Rumble winners and are on their way to Los Angeles, but the Sami Zayn situation is going to have to be resolved at some point. Let’s get to it. We open with a look at Cody Rhodes returning and winning the Royal Rumble on Saturday. Here is Cody Rhodes to get things going. Cody soaks in the cheers and asks what we want to talk about. Rhodes has been doing this for over fifteen years and he started in Ohio Valley Wrestling. There is a sign on their building that says “tomorrow’s superstars today”. He remembers getting ready to go in on his first day and thinking he would be WWE Champion in two years and he would be the next John Cena. If he could talk to his 19 year old self, he would tell him that it would ..
There is the first one. We are officially done with the Royal Rumble and that means all roads are leading to WrestleMania 39 on April 1 and 2. That is the kind of thing that makes for some of the most important moments of the years. You get to see WWE presenting its biggest stars all at once, but the building has to start early. And so, it ends. There are all kinds of ways to present an angle in wrestling and one of the best is by building up to a moment until the fans are ready to cheer for it. This can take time, but the effort is worth it in the end. WWE presents angles like this from time to time and they did it again this weekend, with the reaction from the crowd being quite the sight to behold. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The New King: Gunther Sets Impressive All Time Record In Royal Rumble Match The main event of this weekend’s Royal Rumble saw Roman Reigns retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship over Kevin Owens. Following the match, the Bloodline attacked Owens, with Reigns telling Sami Zayn to attack Owens. Instead, Zayn turned on Reigns by hitting him with a chair. The rest of the Bloodline attacked Zayn, save for Jey Uso, who walked away from the beating to end the show. It was a crazy path. Believe that. Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was recently a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he discussed a number of topics. The biggest was the rumors circulating that he would be facing The Rock at WrestleMania. Below is what Reigns had to say: “That’s been the rumors — there’s been a huge buzz on that for a long time now. I mean for years now. But it’s really picked up in the last couple of years. “I believe he just came out with a statement saying that he’s not gonna be ready in time, which — that’s the kind of face everyone’s making, like, ‘Hold on, he trains every single day… He’s huge!’ “To his defense, it’s one thing to train with weights, and the bodybuilding to look the part. But to be able to get in the ring and do a main event match — a championship match, an Undisputed WWE Universal championship match — it takes a lot of conditioning. It beats up your body. “So there’s more that goes into it than just training in the weight room… it’..
The San Antonio Express-News recently interviewed WWE superstar Kevin Owens to promote the upcoming Royal Rumble event this Saturday. He discussed a number of topics, including his upcoming championship match with Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn, Stephanie McMahon and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On his championship match with Roman Reigns: “I don’t know if I expected it (to come full circle), but I certainly hoped it would,” said Owens, whose real name is Kevin Steen. “Because when our whole feud started, we were doing it through the pandemic in empty buildings. So it’s gonna be nice to have at least one match in front of an actual crowd, considering we had some of our best matches against each other with nobody in the arena.” On Sami Zayn: “(His success) is no surprise to me. I’ve known how good (Zayn) was and how special of a talent he is for 20 years now,” Owens said. “It just took a while for him to get into a situation where he can showcase just how good he is..
Another one on the list. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble as WWE is going to be starting their new year in a big way. With so much going on, it is time to start building up one of the most important nights of the year. That is going to include some major matches and now we have one more thing added to the card outside of the show’s namesake matches. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: BREAKING: Surprise Return Leads To Impromptu SmackDown Title Change Over the last few weeks, LA Knight and Bray Wyatt have been having issues, including Knight accusing Wyatt of attacking him multiple times. This week on SmackDown, Knight challenged Wyatt to a match at the Royal Rumble, with Wyatt accepting. Later in the night, the match was announced as a Pitch Black match, which had been advertised in advance without participants. There is still no word on what the stipulations or rules of the match will be. It’s been a big feud. Check out how we got here: [This post contains video, click to p..
Dynamite Date: November 23, 2022 Location: Wintrust Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Taz, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur It’s the first show after Full Gear and thanks to William Regal, MJF is the new World Champion. That is enough of a story to carry things for the time being, but we have more important things to get to right now: like building up a Ring Of Honor pay per view in the next few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. William Regal is in the ring to open things up and he lets us know the MJF isn’t here because he’s on the set of a major motion picture. MJF will explain things then, including the contents of an emails Regal sent him a few weeks ago. Cue Jon Moxley to rather slowly interrupt, meaning Regal can sneer a lot. Bryan Danielson runs in to keep them apart though and says that they have all done bad things. Moxley slaps him in the face so Danielson begs him not to do this. Danielson talks about his dad having the same struggles that Moxley has had, saying th..
The AEW World Championship match with Jon Moxely defending the title against MJF was a rare instance of being so unpredictable that anything could happen. There was speculation after Wednesday’s final segment on Dynamite, which had William Regal in the middle of the frame between MJF and Jon Moxely. Based on the ending on Dynamite, a lot of fans assumed that William Regal would be the determining factor in whoever won tonight. After the riveting promo between MJF and Regal about their past, it seemed that AEW was building MJF into the great babyface champion the company needs for the future, but he’s aligned himself with the devil. At AEW Full Gear: William Regal just revealed himself as the devil that was always standing by Jon Moxely’s side It started towards the end of the match when MJF teased using the ring to get the win, which led Regal to come down to the ring. After a little bit of trickery, Regal slid MJF his own brass knuckles to give him the knockout blow and the victor..
Monday Night Raw Date: November 14, 2022 Location: KFC Yum Center, Louisville, Kentucky Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We are less than two weeks away from Survivor Series and that means it is time to start building some things up for the show. While we have a few matches, the real focus is going to be on WarGames. It looks like Raw will only be supplying the women’s match and more of the lineup needs to be locked in. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is Seth Rollins to get things going and we see a package on Austin Theory’s failed cash in last week. Last week, he put out an open challenge and now there are people coming out of the woodwork for a shot at the title. Rollins talks about the cash-in and the fans say THAT WAS STUPID. Rollins is ready to defend against Finn Balor tonight but here is Bobby Lashley to interrupt. Rollins isn’t worried and brings up the loss to Brock Lesnar, so here is Mustafa Ali to interrupt. Lashley tosses him out with ease so Ali jumps ..
It still doesn’t feel real. Vince McMahon retired from WWE last month, ending nearly forty years of him in control as the company. It seems that retired might be the nice version of what really happened, as McMahon left amid an investigation into sexual misconduct with various employees. As a result, McMahon did not leave on the best of terms, but what has he been doing since? According to PWInsider.com, McMahon has had no official contact with WWE since retiring. McMahon has not been at Titan Towers, including not even going to the building’s gym. McMahon is not legally allowed to run the company in any capacity due to his retirement and could face legal issues if he did something behind the scenes. In addition, John Laurinaitis is officially still part of WWE but is likely to leave as soon as the investigation into him ends. Opinion: I know it has been a few weeks now but this is still hard to actually accept. McMahon did not get to leave on his own terms (at least in theory) but h..
It’s time to get things going. We are less than two weeks away from Summerslam and that means WWE is going to need to really crank up the card building on the way to Nashville. The show’s main events are mostly set but there are still some other matches that need to be set. That is easier said than done, but WWE managed to boost the card up in a big way this week. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured two grudge matches being added to the Summerslam card. First up, Seth Rollins vs. Riddle was officially confirmed for Summerslam. This match had been set up by the two of them attacking each other over the last few weeks. Later, Logan Paul appeared on MizTV, where Miz accepted Paul’s challenge for a Summerslam match. This comes after Miz attacked Paul after they won a tag match at WrestleMania 38. Opinion: This is the kind of night that Summerslam needed, as the card has gotten a nice boost in the span of a few hours. I’m kind of curious to see the show, as WWE is doing a fairly decent ..
Fare thee well? AEW has come a very long way and has done all kinds of things in just over three years of their existence. That is not something that should be taken lightly and a lot of its credit goes to the wrestlers. The company has done a great job of building up the roster, but not everyone can stick around forever. Now it seems that another of its stars may be on the way out. Dark Order member Alan “5” Angels has blacked out his Twitter account and says that he is excited for what comes next. While not confirmed, this could suggest that Angels is on his way of AEW, as multiple stars have been leaving the company as their contracts expire. Angels has not wrestled on either Dynamite or Rampage since March. He has yet to specifically stage that he is leaving AEW. Excited for what’s next — Alan Angels (@Alan_V_Angels) June 28, 2022 Opinion: Honestly, this isn’t the biggest surprise in the world, as Angels has barely been appearing in recent months. It doesn’t help that Angels wa..
He got the point across. The Coronavirus changed the way the world worked for a long time but things are mainly back to normal. What matters most is that the health issues and worries have mostly gone away, but it is also nice to see some of our old ways of life coming back. That includes wrestling, with one wrestler now being able to tell a story about the pandemic days. Happy Corbin appeared on Mornings With Matt And Bob in Austin, Texas and talked about the upcoming Money In The Bank pay per view. Corbin also told a story about the 2020 edition, with the briefcase hanging above a ring on top of Titan Towers. During the match, Corbin threw Rey Mysterio off the top of the building, with Mysterio landing via a video edit. According to Corbin, the moment caused at least one fan to call 911 and say that Corbin had killed Mysterio. Opinion: As ridiculous as it might seem, this is the kind of thing that makes wrestling seem more real. The fan bought into what they were seeing so much tha..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Hell in a Cell 2018 Date: September 16, 2018 Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton Welcome to the first show of the three that WWE is currently building. In this case we have the show designed around carnage and that could mean a few things. The show hasn’t exactly blown me away on paper but maybe they’ll surprise me here. There are two matches inside the big red cage tonight so let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Smackdown Tag Team ..
