One Ring Of Honor Name Has Already Found A New Wrestling Job

It’s a spot. This weekend marked the end of an era for Ring of Honor as the company is entering a hiatus period over the next several months. As a result, several stars are going to be leaving the company, though not all of them are going to be in the ring. There are all kinds of people who are heading elsewhere, and now we know where one of those names is heading next. During an appearance on the Lehigh Valley With Love podcast, Ring of Honor broadcaster Ian Riccaboni has announced that he will be joining the New Japan Strong commentary team starting in Seattle on January 15. Riccaboni has been with Ring of Honor since 2014 and has been the main host of their TV show since February 2017. He will continue to do voiceover work for Ring of Honor TV for the next several months. Hello! Very excited to break the news with @LVwithLove with love that I will be headed to Seattle for @njpwglobal to join the commentary booth for #njpwStrong! New Japan has always been a treasured partner of RO..

NXT Did Something Pretty Weird At Takeover: 31

Call them warm bodies? A commentary team is one of the most important parts of any wrestling show. You need the right people calling the show to point the fans in the right direction and convey the messages and stories that the company is pushing. This is easier said than done and the wrong team can make things all the more complicated. That was kind of the case on Sunday, at least in person. NXT is in a strange place at the moment as their three person commentary booth is not only changing due to some new members, but those members are rarely always in the same place. Beth Phoenix has been doing commentary from her home in North Carolina due to Coronavirus scares and Wade Barrett has not been present for some of the recent shows. However, NXT had a solution on Sunday, though it was a completely bizarre one. According to the Local Competitor Twitter account, which identifies non-contracted wrestlers who appear as extras on wrestling shows, NXT used two stand-ins for Phoenix and Barre..

Watch: 2012 Royal Rumble Match In Its Entirety

The bar has been set. WWE has recently posted a new video to its YouTube page in which they show the entire 2012 Royal Rumble match. Sheamus was the victor that year and went on to WrestleMania to challenge for the championship of his choosing. You can see the match in ins entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: It was a grueling battle for the powerhouse who drew No. 22. Entering before a sold-out crowd that had already witnessed Ricardo Rodriguez rolling to the ring in an ’85 Datsun, Kofi Kingston walking on his hands to avoid elimination and Michael Cole jumping over the top rope to escape the wrath of Kharma, The Celtic Warrior immediately made his presence felt by launching Kingston out of the ring. From there, the Rumble became a demolition derby of battered bodies and unpredictable arrivals. Booker T, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Michael Cole all left the broadcast booth at one point to try their luck in the bout, but were quickly sent back t..

The Taz Show Recap – NXT Analysis, Effective Commentary in Wrestling, Will Taz Return to the Announce Booth? More!

Block 1:

Taz opens today’s show speaking briefly about last night’s episode of NXT. He says that Velveteen is a very captivating character with a terrific look, great size and a ripped body. He thinks Velveteen Dream has a plethora of potential moving forward, and if he had to pick two NXT Superstars who he believes will become legitimate stars he’d choose Dream and Aleister Black.

Speaking about the NXT commentary team, one line in particular really bothered Taz during last night’s episode. After Velveteen Dream dropped his elbow finisher from the top rope, Mauro Ranallo said, “The elbow was Macho like Randy!”. Taz cringed at that line, and he really wishes Ranallo wouldn’t have compared Veleveteen Dream to ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage.

Taz understands that Ranallo is not making this comparison maliciously and he’s doing his best to get Velveteen Dream over, but Taz doubts Vince McMahon is aware that this type of comparison is happening on a weekly basis on NXT. He doubts McMahon would approve of these young talents being compared to some of the business’ all time greats, and Taz believes Ranallo is simply trying too hard to get these guys over.

Reason Why Tom Phillips Was Replaced on 205 Live

As seen on this week’s episode of 205 Live, former House of Hardcore announcer Vic Joseph made his debut at the broadcasting booth for the brand. He will be replacing Tom Phillips moving forward.

The reason Vic replaced Tom on 205 Live is because the company wants Tom to focus on other duties in the company and he has a lot on his plate with being the lead announcer for SmackDown Live. With Vic is on the rise within the company, the belief is that he is the perfect replacement. Since arriving in the company, Vic has worked on WWE Main Event and NXT in a short time. The company is very high on his work and that’s why Vic has been chosen as Tom’s replacement.

Tom posted the following on Twitter regarding Vic’s new role on weekly WWE television:

The Taz Show Recap – Calling Live Matches Vs. Taped, Asuka Needs A Challenge, Does Lana Deserve A Title Shot? More!

Blocks 1 & 2:

A listener calls into the show and presents an idea he has for the Mae Young Classic. He says that Asuka has been complaining about a lack of competition in NXT as of late, so perhaps she should be entered into the upcoming women’s tournament where she’d have to defend her NXT Women’s Title in every match.

Taz says thats a cool, unique idea, but WWE wouldn’t really be able to explain giving out multiple Title opportunities to women who didn’t earn it. Taz admits that WWE just did this by giving Lana a Title opportunity against Naomi at Money in the Bank, so perhaps they don’t worry about those types of details as much as we’d think.

Another listener calls into the show and asks Taz what your main goal should be as a colour commentator for a wrestling company. Taz says that first and foremost, you should never worry about getting yourself over. Your talking points should always focus on the story that the talents are telling in the ring, and your goal is to do everything you can to get those talents over with the audience.

Taz points out that a lot of commentators seem interested in getting themselves over more than the talents in the ring, and that should never be the case. He adds that colour commentators such as JBL or Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler can get away with that to a degree because they both had lengthy, successful in-ring careers before transitioning to the announce booth.

The Ross Report Recap w/ Roderick Strong – Strowman’s Injury, Strong’s Road to WWE, Who is Strong’s Dream Opponent, More!

Ross informs that he’s going to be busy this week commentating NJPW events for AXS TV, and he says he enjoys doing commentary for NJPW because it’s very one-dimentional in the sense that it’s a wrestling-heavy product. He’ll also be flying to Stanford on Wednesday to do voice over work for WWE’s UK Special which will air later this week on the WWE Network

From Ross’ understanding, the UK special will be 90 minutes in length. He says he’s quite excited to do voice over work for that WWE special, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t appreciate the other commentary work he does for NJPW or any other promotions. He says that whenever he sits down at a commentary booth he gives 100% and does his best to serve the product, regardless of the style of wrestling.

Ross informs that he will be Chicago this weekend for his one-man show, but as of this recording he has no appearance confirmed for WWE’s Backlash PPV or the NXT Takeover show. He says that it’s certainly a possibility that he has a role on one of those shows, and he’d be happy if that were to occur. He adds that he’s just happy to be home in WWE and have a role with the company.

Ross says that his book will be coming out in October, and he has just finished confirming names to do forewords and add dialogue to it. He says he already has some great words submitted from Vince McMahon, Steve Austin, The Rock and Mark Cuban to name a few.
