Mercedes Mone Wins First Championship In NJPW

Call her a champion. Mercedes Mone, known as Sasha Banks in WWE, has won her first championship as a member of the NJPW roster. She defeated Kairi for the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW’s Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California. From Bleacher Report: NJPW sold out tickets to Battle in the Valley after Kairi vs. Mercedes Moné was announced and it showed as the crowd erupted as it began. It was the loudest the audience in attendance got all night. Mone entered the arena wearing new gear as a tribute to the late Hana Kimura. You could see how much she reveres Japanese wrestling, and how much this moment means to her. The former WWE star hasn’t wrestled since May 13, 2022, but she hasn’t missed a beat. The Blueprint dominated early on with the crowd behind her, but Kairi came roaring back. It looked like the champion could retain when she locked in the Ikari, but Mone fought out and cinched in her trademark crossface. Then, Kairi hit her staggering spinning back fist to f..

REVIEW: Elimination Chamber 2017: Last One

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Elimination Chamber 2017 Date: February 12, 2017 Location: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Phoenix, Arizona Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, John Bradshaw Layfield, Tom Phillips, David Otunga We’re two weeks removed from the Royal Rumble and that means it’s time for another pay per view. This time it’s Smackdown only with the big namesake match setting up the Wrestlemania World Title match for the blue brand. The winner seems pretty obvious but that’s never stopped WWE before. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Curt Hawkins vs. Moj..

Former WWE Women’s Champion Returns To Television

She’s back. WWE has had a number of returns in the past 48 hours, with names such as Chelsea Green and Rick Boogs returning to the company. However, there was an additional name that also made her presence felt on television. Carmella made her return to WWE programming on tonight’s episode of Raw. It was also announced that she would be in a Fatal-4-way match on next week’s show, along with Candice LaRae, Michin, and Piper Niven. The winner of that match will qualify for the upcoming Elimination Chamber match, where the winner will face Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. After the announcement, Carmella was interviewed backstage, where she was confronted by Asuka, who had blue liquid running out of her mouth. Editor’s Opinion: F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! I have been a fan of Carmela’s for a long time and it is great to see her back on television. I’ve always thought that she had something to offer the company and with the momentum that the Raw women’s division has..

AEW Rampage Results – December 9, 2022

Rampage Date: December 9, 2022 Location: H-E-B Center, Cedar Park, Texas Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone We are a day away from Ring Of Honor Final Battle and odds are we are going to be seeing some of the very last build to the show. Other than that we have what should be a heck of a match between Konosuke Takeshita vs. Jon Moxley and Orange Cassidy defending the All-Atlantic Title against a mystery challenger. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita Moxley takes him down by the arm to start before it’s time to stand and trade chops. With that not working, Moxley bites Takeshita’s head in the corner and then chops some more. With Don Callis watching, Takeshita sends him outside and over the barricade as we take a break. Back with Moxley (bleeding) getting two off a piledriver but getting caught with a heck of a clothesline. Takeshita sends him to the apron, setting up a slingshot DDT for two back inside. What looked like a Blue Thunde..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Fans Go Detective On Possible WarGames Shocker

They might be on to something. We are less than a week away from WWE Survivor Series, which will feature a pair of WarGames matches. There will be a men’s and women’s edition of the match, with the former having a completely set lineup. The women’s match still has a single spot to be filled and it is not clear who will take the slot. However, some fans certainly have a theory. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Surprise Name Completes Men’s WarGames Match On SmackDown As of Monday morning, the lineup for the women’s WarGames match features Damage Ctrl, Rhea Ripley and Nikki Cross facing Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim and another wrestler to be named. This is the lineup featured on the graphic for the match, with a hooded figure filling in the last spot. The image shows blue hair sticking out of the hood, leading to fan speculation that Sasha Banks will be returning for WarGames. This is not confirmed and is only a fan theory at the moment. Banks has been away from WWE since Ma..

Former WWE Star Set For Official Retirement Match

You have to hang it up eventually. Retirement is a weird concept for a lot of wrestlers as several of them have issues with leaving wrestling. Many of them have often stick around longer than expected as they can keep coming back for one more match here or there. Eventually everyone has to hang up the boots though and that is going to be the case with another former WWE star. According to Fightful, Mike Bucci, formerly known as Nova or Simon Dean in WWE, will be wrestling his final match on December 3. Bucci, 50 years old, will team with Aron Stevens (formerly known as Damien Sandow) and another partner to be named against Matt Cardona, Brian Myers and another partner to be named at Stand Alone Wrestling’s Contest Of Champions in in Tom’s River, New Jersey. Bucci began wrestling in 1992 and made his name in ECW as part of the Blue World Order. He has also wrestled in WWE and around the independent circuit. Opinion: This is one of those things that you know has to happen at some point..

Backstage News On Karrion Kross’ Push In WWE

Tick tock. Perhaps the biggest story in professional wrestling this past week has been the return of Karrion Kross to WWE. He attacked Drew McIntyre in the closing moments of last week’s episode of SmackDown. According to a report from PWInsider, WWE is planning to push Kross to be the No. 2 heel on the blue brand, behind Roman Reigns. In addition, Scarlett will continue to manage him and isn’t currently planning to be wrestling regularly, but that could be a possibility in the future. The report also states that after the pair were released last year, there was still regular communication between them and the company. Kross is also expected to complete his independent wrestling appearances that were signed prior to his return to WWE as much as possible. Editor’s Opinion: Can you blame WWE for making this decision? The pair was easily one of the best things about NXT during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I still, to this day, don’t understand why Vince McMahon decided to release them f..

AEW Rampage Results – July 8, 2022

Rampage Date: July 8, 2022 Location: Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, New York Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Jim Ross We’re in for a pretty stacked show this week with Konosuke Takeshita vs. Eddie Kingston and some Ring Of Honor stars, including World Champion Jonathan Gresham, getting their TV time. Throw in Orange Cassidy vs. Tony Nese for Swerve Strickland’s AEW contract, because reasons, and let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Konosuke Takeshita vs. Eddie Kingston They shove each other around to start and then head to the mat, with neither being able to go anywhere. Excalibur lets us know that we just saw a replay of Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Mitsuharu Misawa. Kingston takes him down and cranks on both arms, with Takeshita reversing into a double crank of his own. That reversal is reversed into another reversal before the rope gets Takeshita out of trouble. The head into the corner with Kingston firing off the machine gun chops. Takeshita hits some better forearms but gets headbutted down h..

AEW Dynamite Results – July 6, 2022

Dynamite Date: July 6, 2022 Location: Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, New York Commentators: Taz, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re back to the normal show this week and that could mean more than a few things. In this case it means that we are going to be seeing Jon Moxley defend the Interim World Title against Brody King, which should be a heck of a fight. Other than that, it is time to build towards Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor later this month. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. TNT Title: Wardlow vs. Scorpio Sky Wardlow is challenging in a street fight. Sky strikes away at the leg to start and gets dropped with a hard shoulder. A low blow cuts off Wardlow but he’s fine enough to toss Sky around a few times. They head outside where an American Top Team distraction lets Sky send Wardlow into the steps. We take a break and come back with Wardlow knocking him off the top and hitting a Swanton. The Powerbomb Symphony is loaded up but Wardlow clears them out without much effort. ..

AEW Rampage Results – July 1, 2022

Rampage Date: July 1, 2022 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone We are done with Forbidden Door and that means it is time to start moving forward. In this case that means we need a new challenger for Jon Moxley’s newly won Interim World Title. We can find that out tonight in what sounds like a Royal Rumble for the #1 contendership. That should be enough to carry the show so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Royal Rampage So this is a two ring battle royal, but not in the traditional sense. Instead, there are two rings with a separate battle royal going on in each. Once there is a single person left in each, they will have a two man battle royal for the shot. It is also Royal Rumble style entrances and it’s Hangman Page/Powerhouse Hobbs in blue and Darby Allin/Tony Nese in red to get things going. Nese kicks Allin down and poses as Hobbs powers Page around. Page low bridges Hobbs to the apron as Ricky Starks is in the r..

WATCH: John Cena vs. Kevin Owens From Money In The Bank 2015

The rematch the world wanted to see. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the match between John Cena and Kevin Owens from Money in the Bank 2015. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Even as Cena took control in the opening moments, the prize fighter’s hubris never wavered, commenting mid-match on Cena’s tough early attack: “How’d that work out for you last time?” Owens backed up his trash talk further by hitting Cena’s signature combination — a pair of shoulder blocks, side slam and 5-Knuckle Shuffle. Cena wouldn’t stay down, though. He battled through Owens’ hard-hitting punches and slam with resiliency that would have made any fan of the hometown Blue Jackets smile. When Cena hoisted Owens into position for an Attitude Adjustment, adding a “You can’t see me” taunt for good measure, it seemed academic. Then Owens powered out of the pinfall at a late two, and the Cenation leader nea..

WWE Tag Team Title Unification Match Set

When 4 become 2. On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, the much anticipated Tag Team Championship unification match between RK-Bro and The Usos was finally set. The match will be taking place on next week’s edition of Smackdown. You can see the match being accepted below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The Winner Take All Tag Team Title Unification Match between RK-Bro and The Usos is back on and set for Friday Night SmackDown on May 20. Originally slated for WrestleMania Backlash, the budding rivalry between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre converted the clash into a Six-Man Tag Team showdown. The Bloodline got the best of the newly-formed trio, but Riddle, Randy Orgon & McIntyre showed they could push the blue brand champions to the absolute limit. So will The Bloodline be leaving SmackDown next week with all the gold, or can RK-Bro make those dreams go up in smoke? Editor’s Opinion: We reported earlier today that it was a rumor that the unification of th..

Serious Problem At This Week’s AEW Dynamite Almost Put Show In Danger

Talk about a dark match. There are a lot of matches taped at an AEW event, as the company films not only Dynamite, but also Rampage and Dark: Elevation. That makes for a rather long night as there is so much stuff to cover at once. The same time frame was in place this week, but things were delayed as there was a situation in the building that made the match a little more difficult. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there was a power failure at this week’s Dynamite taping, which caused some changed to the Dark: Elevation schedule. During a match between Max Caster and Cheeseburger, the power went out near the entrance and at the commentary desk. The match was able to finish, but the following match between Nyla Rose and Skye Blue could not be taped, resulting in it just being for the live audience. The show’s scheduled main event was then taped after Dynamite and before Rampage. The problem was fixed before Dynamite went on the air at 8pm EST. Opinion: That certainly could have ..

RUMOR: Here’s Why AEW Pulled Stars From Upcoming Independent Shows

It takes priority. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works in a lot of ways. One of the biggest has been allowing wrestlers to get a better chance to showcase themselves on a major stage. That is going to let those wrestlers land several bookings on smaller shows, but now that is not going to be the case with some wrestlers on an upcoming show. According to PW Torch, AEW has pulled a group of wrestlers from some upcoming independent events as they have changed a Dark taping from April 30 to May 1. As a result, Lee Moriarty and Skye Blue have been pulled from a Black Label Pro event and JD Drake, Top Flight and Wheeler Yuta have been pulled from a Pro Wrestling Guerrilla event. Both promotions have promised replacements. Unfortunately Lee Moriarty, Skye Blue and Jake Something will not be appearing at Fancy Wrestling next week. Updated matches and championship repercussions will be announced very soon. — Black Label Pro (@BLabelPro) April 22, 2022 Unfortunate..

SmackDown Results – April 15, 2022

Smackdown Date: April 15, 2022 Location: DCU Center, Worcester, Massachusetts Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole We’re back to the blue guys and now the build seems to be on for Wrestlemania Backlash. Last week saw Shinsuke Nakamura come after Roman Reigns to suggest that he is the next challenger while Charlotte vs. Ronda Rousey in an I Quit match is officially set. Hopefully we get some build towards those matches this week so let’s get to it. We open with a long recap of Roman Reigns sending the Usos after the Raw Tag Team Titles, setting up a pair of matches on Raw. Here are Raw Tag Team Champions Rated RKBro for a chat. We get a lot of posing before Riddle talks about how stoked he is to be back on Smackdown, especially with his best friend Randy. After going on about Worcester being the name for Worcestershire sauce, but it’s named after the one in England, not this one. He learned that off of a Snapple lid, but Orton cuts him off to get serious. Orton wants the Usos out h..

Raquel Gonzalez Has A New Name On Smackdown

The callups continue. This week’s episode of Smackdown featured a number of returns and call-ups from NXT, including Gunther and Marcel Barthel, now known as Ludwig Kaiser. Raquel Gonzalez also made her debut this week, but this is not the name that she will be going by. Introduced in a backstage segment with Los Lotharios, Gonzalez will now be known as Raquel Rodriguez on the blue brand. You can see her debut below: [This post contains video, click to play] Dakota Kai recently reunited with Gonzalez on NXT 2.0 and recently defeated Toxic Attraction members Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship during the Kickoff pre-show of NXT Stand & Deliver. However, in their first title defense on the following episode of NXT 2.0, Kai and Gonzalez lost the titles back to Toxic Attraction due to Mandy Rose’s interference. Editor’s Opinion: This is awesome. I’ve always thought that she was one of the top female competitors in all of WWE and now gets her opportunit..

LOOK: Possible Preview Of Undisputed WWE World Title

They have a plan. We are less than a week away from WrestleMania 38 and that means it is time to get ready for the biggest WWE match of the year. This time around that is going to be a championship unification match between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. That means there is going to be one World Champion, but it is going to be something a little different than we have seen before. This week on SmackDown, Reigns mentioned that he would become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. An image has made its way onto Twitter showing a large prop of a WWE title belt in Arlington, Texas, the sight of WrestleMania 38. The title is labeled the World Heavyweight Champion and features a blue design which is currently not present in any WWE championship. While not confirmed, this may be the new Undisputed Universal Championship design. WWE is currently shooting exterior WrestleMania 38 shots using this massive prop in Frisco, Texas. Is this the new unified WWE World..
